Chapter 7 Everything Gone

KIARA

Pain seared through my arm and made my vision go blurry for a moment. All voices dulled down around me and I blinked my eyes, trying to ease the veil which had fallen around my senses.

After a long pause, the noises came back in full volume. The war cries, the dreadful screams of agony, the marching feet, the clinging swords. Everything was too much.

I climbed to my feet and pushed past Madam Alina to look down the wall again. Someone shot at me. It was as if they knew the princess of Mylvania was standing right here, defenceless and clueless about everything.

I inhaled deeply as Madam Alina broke the arrow from the mid and continued to remind me that we needed to go before the Dark King's Army got to the main gates of to the palace. " Please Your Highness. I beg of you. Please come with me. We don't have much time and now, you are injured too. You are losing blood and they are coming. "

Breathing was too hard a task for me right now. My eyes scanned the battleground helplessly, tears of anguish welling in my eyes but never falling down.

Then, my eyes landed on the person everyone hated to the core. The Dark King - the bringer of darkness.

His horse was standing still and his rigid figure clad in heavy armour was even more still. He seemed to be simply speculating everything instead of taking part in any of it.

Disgust filled every inch of my body and all voices ceased for me once more.

I watched him with my vengeful eyes. As if he knew I am watching, he pulled the metal helmet off his face before shaking his head from left to right, fixing his black hair.

I couldn't make out his face from this far, but I could still feel the fear seeping into my bones when he turned in my direction and craned his neck. He looked so small from up here but he was regretfully the greatest and most hated man in the battlefield field or in the world will be the better term.

" KIARA! " Lily screamed close to my ear, bringing me back to reality and making me stop looking at the Dark King.

I jolted back and turned to her, my eyes wide and horrified.

" Please. Please let's go. " The voice of my lady-in-waiting became soft as she grabbed my hand in hers.

Madam Alina and my other two ladies-in-waiting were teary eyed.

" We have lost! " The screams overcame every other noise.

I nodded my head, a lump forming in my throat. My heart had settled in my stomach, constantly beating and begging to stop beating at the same time.

Lily began to drag me away from the wall and I momentarily forgot the eye contact I shared with the Dark King. It felt weird and I lost myself in some kind of a trance, not understanding what was actually happening around me.

Lara tore her sleeve and placed it around the arrow which was still stuck in my arm to stop the heavy bleeding.

My head which had hanged low, rose and I looked upfront.

" This way, My Princess. " Madam Alina led us down the hallway into the darkest part of the Castle.

I followed, silence resonating inside me and claiming everything.

" My Princess. You must pull yourself together. " Lily whispered the encouraging words in my ear like she always did.

I rolled my shoulders and felt the arrow dug deeper into my flesh.

Madam Alina stopped in front of a wall and pressed a brick. The wall in front of us slipped away, revealing a cavy dark path.

She walked forward and all four of us followed her, the darkness almost making it impossible to see anything for us. Still, we continued to walk.

The screams of the people of Keragania were loud and clear even down here. It sent chills down my spine and I hated myself for leaving them behind, helpless and afraid of their fate.

Tears threatened to fall my eyes, but I held my head high even in the darkness.

The path led to another wall which slipped away when Madam Alina pressed another brick in the wall. The sliding noise of the stone wall made me flinch and then bright light flushed inside, blinding me.

I opened my eyes after a moment, adjusting my gaze to the brightness of the day after walking for so long in the dark.

Madam Alina rushed outside. " Follow me please, My Princess. "

I did as she said and followed her out in the opening which clearly led to the forest.

" This way. There are guards waiting for us down here. Crown Prince Kylo arranged everything for you, My Highness, before he went into the war. " She informed me in a solemn voice and I only nodded my head like a puppet.

My ladies-in-waiting followed me and Madam Alina blindly. I knew they were more worried about my life than they feared losing their own lives.

A gasp escaped Madam Alina's mouth just as she rounded the corner. She paused in her way and turned to look at me.

" Run back. Run back, My Princess. " She screamed and then made a run for it.

My blood froze in my veins and I stayed rooted on my spot for a moment. Then, I heard the sound of laughter coming from around the corner and I understood everything.

They were here. They knew about the secret passage.

I turned around on my heels and rushed back to the cave, my ladies-in-waiting and Madam Alina falling behind me to protect me.

They must have killed the royal guards and now, these women who barely knew how to fight wanted to protect me with their lives.

Bile rose in my throat as I entered the cave and heard the running footsteps getting near us.

" Push that brick, My princess. " Madam Alina yelled and I did what she said.

I pushed the brick she was pointing at. The wall slid back into place, hindering those monsters from getting to us.

My heart was beating in my throat and it was also drumming in my ears. Lara was trying her best to cling to me and keep my fresh wound pressed.

Lily and Mary were too standing close to me, their breathings...loud and ragged.

They were going to die with me. The thought was horrifying.

" There is another way. " Madam Alina huffed and pushed past me in the darkness.

It was a surprise to me that she could see so clearly even in the darkness. She pressed another brick in the distance and another wall slid aside, revealing an opening. I walked there after jerking my arm out of Lara's hold. I didn't want to be pampered right now.

The opening was a dimly lit room to my surprise. I entered the room followed by everyone.

" It's the place where all the royal documents are kept. Someone must be coming down to burn it. We can wait here until guards come, My Princess. " Madam Alina suggested in a breathless and scared voice.

" That sounds like a good idea as of now, Madam Alina. " I agreed with her and looked around the room.

There were long racks filled with documents. The smell of old paper and ink was high in the air.

I closed my eyes and took some deep breaths, trying my utmost best to calm my heart.
