Chapter 5 At First Glance

Serena rushed up the stairs in a flurry trying to bid against time. She had only a few minutes to get her things settled before the local reporters would come calling.

On getting to the top of the staircase, Serena flung open her bed room door and walked in heading straight to her wardrobe to pack her things. She threw some clothes haphazardly into her suitcase taking only the bare essentials without giving spare thought as to so much as how the weather would be like in her desired destination.

After she finished packing, Serena put the things around her house in order before heading to the showers to have one of the quickest showers known to mankind.

Once she was done showering, Serena then headed back to her room for the last time quickly change into the clothes which she had laid out on her bed. When done she gave herself a once last look in the mirror before dragging her suitcase with her for the last time down the stairs.

Serena hastily scribbled down some instructions on a piece of paper addressed to her house keeper regarding the house. She then grabbed her keys off the counter before heading out of the door without even looking back.

Serena could see that the uber which she had called for was waiting for her by her gate so she hastened her steps. Once inside the taxi Serena paid the driver no mind and turned her attention to the trees that swayed from side to side as the taxi moved past them

The drive to airport was long and it gave Serena some time to reflect on the decision that she was about to take. Was she doing the right thing by leaving the town without letting anyone know about her whereabouts? Or was she just taking the coward's exit by running away? Serena didn't know the answer to all these questions but she knew that deep in her heart that she couldn't stay. She couldn't bear to see pity in everyone's eyes just at the sight of her. Such thoughts however well intended made her feel so useless and that was something she just couldn't take.

Serena snapped out of her thoughts the second she felt drop of water touch her face. She looked out of the window to see that the clouds above her were beginning to darken.

'So much for a beautiful morning' she thought.

From the corner of her eyes she could see a little blue minivan that had the logo of channel nine entertainment news on it breeze past her uber.

Serena felt a cold smile creep on her lips, at least she was able to doge the reporters. Feeling like she had achieved something, Serena then closed her eyes and rested her back on the chair.

Serena sat next to an old lady during the duration of the flight who claimed to be traveling to see both her daughter and grand children. The woman was sweet for the most part, her only flaw was that she was bit too chatty and it took all that Serena had to respond to all her questions not wanting to be rude.

They soon arrived at their destination and the plane glided smoothly across the runway before coming to a halt. Serena stood up from her seat and exited the plane in a hurry. She just wanted to go home.

On getting down, she noticed that another plane though more expensive had landed not quite far from hers. Her eyes were drawn to the three men who had disembarked from the plane most especially the tallest of them all. He seemed to be the leader of the trio and looked like he was giving an order as he walked. He was wearing dark grey suit that fit his tall and slender figure like a glove.

Serena walked behind them in silence from a distance not wanting to have any contact with them. She couldn't see his face but his entire deportment shrieked of money, the kind that came from a life of wealth and affluence. As someone who had worked in the event planning industry, she had come face to face with a lot of big shots....celebrities even. However the man before her bore a very powerful presence so overwhelming that it was very hard to ignore it. They all continued walking till they reached the airport terminal.

In a flash the man in front of Serena was surrounded by a slew of anxious reporters who were falling over each other trying to get his attention.

The two men who were at his side suddenly sprung in to action by taking the man in between into cover trying to clear a path for their boss. The man then turned towards the crowd and announced that he was ready to take an interview. The sound of 'Mr. Terrence choose me' reverberated across the terminal as the reporters increased in their fight for the man's interest.

Serena didn't really care for who the man was as she changed in her course of direction and took a swift U- turn with her suitcase in turn. The last thing she heard as she walked through the revolving door leading to the outside of the airport was "Mr. Terrence Logan! Is it true that you have just recently acquired Oriental chain of hotels to add to your vast empire?"...

Terrence was surprised to see the large group of reporters surround him. He wondered how they could have possibly known that he was going to be there today after all it was to have been made a secret. 'Maybe Chelsea his assistant had purposely let out word that he had newly acquired oriental chain of hotels for publicity reasons or was there a mole in company?' He wondered.

Whatever it was he was dead tired from his trip and needed to rest and the reporters were definitely not helping.

He gave a low yawn and prepared to answer the next question thrown at him when his eyes met another across the sea of reporters. Those eyes were an off shade of brown and were so beautiful that for a split second, he was mesmerized.

The owner, a lady turned away without even so much as sparing him a second glance turned on her heels and moved towards the exit doors. Terence didn't know when he took a step forward wanting to decrease the distance between him and those eyes but alas he could not.

He willed her to look back at him once more but in a flash she was gone.
