Chapter 2 Lottery

In silence everyone places ourselves back into our chairs and Gaia stands next to me. I was dreading what she had to say next. My spine runs with an ice shiver, causing me to vigorously rub my arms repeatedly.

"Selene. Your sisters are right. You are loving the human kind way too much." Mother Nature gives out, her white eyes stare at me for challenge or any arguments that I have prepared for her. She was daring me to mention Endymion.

"Mother. I love you and my family. I would never have beings of the Earth have the superior love over my family." I chirp out, my palms sweat. Pushing my white hair away from my pale face the goddesses stare at me emotionless. Gaia studies my face for a split second before extending her cold hand to my face.

"Then prove it." Gaia mutters out, her ice filled fingers trace my cheek making the light since I had no heart, inside my body well up with pressure.

"What..what do you want me to do? Say and I will do it." I encourage her, fear envelopes my head. I was the Moon Goddess. Controlling the moon, werewolves and humans was what my role as a deity was all about.

"Children, any ideas?" Gaia suppresses a small smile when my sisters blow out their whispers and quiet laughs. She grazes the crowd in a proud manner making me all nervous. Whatever they have a planned was definitely something even Hades would never think of. That's what a group of female deities were capable of. I was thankful Hephaestus was not involved in this, he could really add the unnecessary fire to the situation.

"Match a human with a werewolf." Says Eirene who I thought would never even fight her instinct of 'peace'. She was the innocent of them all. Her baby blue eyes watch me with a pure smile meaning no harm - when harm clearly was done!

At the sound of her voice I heard Aphrodite add something else which was unclear in the clutter of sounds which were making my ears hurt.

"We agree!" The deity ladies express their views towards our mother with joy. No!

"Alright... Selene. You know how to match soul mates more than any of us do. Please take the lead." The Mother Earth grins widely in my direction. Her violet shines stare at me with determination. Although she was the Goddess of all creation, she was also the oldest of us all, but right now she was giving an impression of anything but that.

"That is unheard of. I can't do that!" I exclaim out. I never let humans and werewolves mix. Never. Gaia frowns, not the first time I have neglected her orders, yet it still caused the whole grounds shake in gasps as my sisters gazed at me in absolute shock.

"Did you just refuse my command?" Gaia nears my face, her violet eyes boiling with purple fire that wanted to taste my suffering. Her tone of voice was anything but loud, yet it was enough to shake me to the very core.

"N-no. Mother." I stutter, my words fumbling as I am on the verge of tears. Our mother backs away looking not too pleased with my attitude.

"Make sure she accomplishes my order." Gaia gestures lightly to Eirene. "I will be on my way to inform Theia of this." With that she disappears leaving me stunned. My mind swirls with unclear thoughts and fears my own life. I didn't want to get whipped from the face of this realm. If I do, my next body will never find Endymion and that means that we will for sure never be together.

"Just complete the match. Do you really want to die?" Speaks Mania who looks terrified and both joyful of the madness that has just happened. The others deities chirp in, everyone has their own opinion making my head burn with hot lava.

"If I match two souls of different kinds it could result so many consequences!" I yell out making my sisters stand still in silence. I look at them all, breathing irregular, palms welling up with sweat, I had to decide on my next action. Was death even worth this?

"We can ask Apollo of this, can't we? He can look further into the future, that's how you can avoid failure." Eirene suggests making me look at her with appreciation, but then I recollect my thoughts, since it was her own idea in the damn first place.

"The match has to be done now. I think you can just pick a random soul from both bowls, like a...lottery!" Mania bursts into hysterical giggles, her face gets covered in red veins from so much laughter she was experiencing, she was a mad one at that.

"I don't think that's a good idea." I mumble out, my head growing tired of constant suggestions and thoughts which were just not right in any manner or form. Matching soul mates with a human and a werewolf was not permitted, that is my first and most important rule.

"Just pick at random. What harm can it do?" Aphrodite calls out her blue eyes stare at me with fascination. I take a huge gulp of the liquid in my mouth, the sensation burning my throat. I think it was called bile in the human terms. Endymion once told me when I was him. When he was still functioning...Oh, my Endymion.

"Alright." I finally agree. It was clear, I had to do this or get removed from my body which was off course not an option. Stepping closer to the two white bowls I gaze at them all, the feeling in my stomach, the feeling of pity settles in of what I am about to accomplish.
