Once Allison sat on her designated desk, she closed her eyes and smiled. She was way too thankful for the new changes in her life and how it favored her. Drifting to the her hurtful past, Allison recalled the quiet life she lived till things took a turn to Chinatown. She could still remember the little bad decisions she took as a teenager that escalated into major issues. She brushed those memories off her mind as she set off to organize Miss May's office.
Stepping into the office, she was bedazzled once again and it took her moments later to focus on the task ahead.
After the encounter with Miss May and Bryan the previous day - who either didn't recognize her or acted the part - she got to know that her clerical works involved getting to the her workplace earlier than other workers, bringing Miss May her favorite grand latte a few blocks from Fashion Fay, piling and arranging paperworks on her desk, typings, taking records, scheduling, making appointments and answering calls, creating dinner reservation for Miss May and random dates, not to mention handling her fake social accounts to keep her private life at bay. For this, she was appointed with an iPad to access her accounts to post of her specific moves. She was really happy indeed, at least with her new job she gets to be busy and live the secluded life she deemed so.
Satisfied with her neat arrangement, Allison left eagerly to get Miss May's coffee. Although the building was serene, few workers were stepping in for work and being the cheerful girl, she found her self greeting them politely as they walked pass her. She wanted to be different for her new beginning yet she found herself reaching out to the old self.
"So much for a change." She mumbled.
Pushing the glass door aside, Allison was greeted with the cold breeze of autumn which caressed her skin and for few minute she let loose, walking independently on the streets, smiling at passerby's, as well enjoying the sweet fragrance from a flower shop she passed. She couldn't help but beam with smiles when the sun shone on her face.
Strangers stared at her but she didn't let their gaze control her, until a guy in a motorcycle wolf whistled after her, only then did her cheeks turn scarlet.
"I haven't seen anyone this happy since last year's festival," A bald man in a business suit with a briefcase said, making his way across the streets.
"I got a new job." She exclaimed, calling after the man who she knew didn't hear her.
Finally reaching the shop, she went in and the shop bell didn't hesitate to notify of her arrival. Eyes stared at her as she slowly reached the counter to make her order.
"Hi. I would like a grand latte and a cappuccino for takeaway please?" She said nervously to the male behind the counter who wrote down her orders, still well aware of the stares sent her way.
She wanted to ask him why people were acting weird around her but as he wore a white cap that covered his face, she didn't bother to.
"One latte and a cappuccino coming up!"
Allison took notice of his voice. Little curiosity made her stare at the worker but because he was backing away from her, she couldn't make out the face, only the small raven black hair falling out of his covered hair and a tan smooth skin. And although the T-shirt he wore was tight on his arms, it still flexed free as he worked on her orders.
A notification beeped on the given iPad, so Allison used that as a distraction to forget the eyes that bore holes at her and just like that, she lost focus on the coffee guy. Still waiting for her orders, she leaned on the counter, busy with files on the device. Few minutes drowning in her work, the coffee guy placed her orders on the counter.
"Here you go, that will be..." His customer smile dismissed and he was taken aback.
"Hi Allie." He chuckled, standing akimbo.
Allison was way too stunned to meet him again - here of all places- but she composed herself. She couldn't believe she was checking him out earlier. If only she had known.
Here was the guy who saved her that dreadful night, - whom she felt thankful to, whom took notice of her as " intriguing" and then overlooked her existence - in front of her, smiling. Although his appearance looked varied from yesterday with his hair again, everything else fell in place.
"Maybe he is a two faced. It makes prefect sense, doesn't it? He even have the guts to call my name after yesterday. Well two can play that card." She thought.
"Hi Ry." Allison smiled sarcastically as she recalled the nickname Miss May called him.
His eyebrows furrowed whereas his forehead wrinkled at the statement and it took a while to stir off his absolute confusion. Despite that, Allison paid no attention to this.
"Here you go, your money. It says on the display board these coffees cost 2 dollars each." She slapped some money on the counter and pushed it toward him. "Have an intriguing day." Smiling sarcastically, Allison turned swiftly and walked out.
Back at the office, she had dropped her boss's coffee and also had her share. Filled with energy, she sat down once more to work on documents assigned to her. They were to be typed, printed and laid on Miss May's desk for signing. At first, she was confused about the order but few minutes into it, she caught up, eagerly putting focus on the task. She hadn't noticed a figure standing in front of her desk, arms crossed, staring at her, not until she rose to print the finished work.
"Oh God." She staggered backwards from her office chair. Holding up a hand to her chest, eyes closed, she inhaled slowly to recollect her breathing.
"Why would you just stand there silent? It's creepy, don't you think? I almost got a heart attack."
"Well, in my defense I did tap on your desk. You were so oblivious, really engulfed with your work, I had to let you be," he stated out, devoid of sympathy.
"Still you..."
"I need the keys." He disclosed, cutting her off.
Confounded, Allison narrowed her eyes at him. From his copper hair to his sculptured fine face, the inked dragon tattoo on the side of his neck, which she sworn she didn't see earlier, his blue denim that complimented his white shirt. His cologne filled her nose hence making her stomach feel funny. He was obviously different from before yet he was still looking painfully handsome. As if he wasn't earlier.
"Are you done checking me out, Silver?"
Embarrassment sprouted scarlet colors on her cheeks, it didn't go unnoticed by the man standing opposite her because he smirked knowingly.
His voice contrasts his initials at the coffee shop, then again he has never called me Silver.
"No. I was trying to process what you asked of me," she said in denial.
It was partly true. Partly not.
"I. need. the. keys. to. Liza's. office. My girlfriend." Frustration tugged on his voice. "Are the dots connecting now?" He responded with a skeptical look.
Allison's eyes widened at the realization of the news. She had to blink a couple of times to regain composure. Clearly today is full of surprises and shock. She wondered how she would cope with these kind of things. It seems a regular thing in Coastville.
"Literally? Why didn't you tell me earlier, Bryan?"
It was the latter's turn to raise an eyebrow in confusion.
"Bryan, I know we aren't going to get along fine, I don't mind. But why didn't you tell me you are my boss's boyfriend?"
Although Miss May maybe twice his age, she didn't see reason to invade their relationship.
He chuckled, flashing his white sparkly teeth. Realization also dawn on him as he stroked his neck, folded his arms and cast a look at the secretary in front of her. His arms were broad but looked smooth. Allison tried not to stare for long at his biceps, which itched her to reach out and caress.
"Give me the damn keys Silver." His voice came out authoritative. Giving up, she breathe heavily, reached beneath her desk drawer and shuffled a key holder attached with a golden key and extended it to him.
"Here," Allison said with a calm tone. Then he tarried on.
Looking defeated, she sank on her chair. However, heels started clicking on the tiles from afar, snatching people's attention. Allison had to turn around to figure out who it was. Up ahead was her boss walking majestically, her long black ironed hair dancing at her back from her catwalks, her eyes focused on her direction. Unlike the day before, she wore a red tight strapless dress which stopped inches below her knees, showing off her slender legs. Her cleavage could be seen from where Allison stood hence this made the male employees' eyes fill with desire as they ogled while the females admired her enormous beauty. Allison swallowed, still staring at the model like character, somewhat happy she wasn't the only one Miss May has that effect on. There, workers parted way like red sea, still allured by her glamorous figure, nevertheless paying their due respects.
Everyone was so engrossed in her that no one took notice of the receptionist struggling to keep her balance with the load of items she carried, still on Miss May's tail. Who would possibly cast her a look when Miss May stole the spotlights.
"Is dear Ry in?" She asked once she reached Allison.
"Yes Ma'am," she mustered in an unsteady voice.
Act professional. Be Professional. Damn it. My voice had to betray me, now of all time.
Still hoping her nervousness wouldn't get the best of her, she included, "He came in a while ago."
Miss May slightly nodded. About to walk away, she stopped. Allison waited for what was to come next as Miss May turned.
"One more thing Miss...?"
"Allison." She intervened.
"Yes. Miss Allison. Call me Miss May. I feel a little old with Ma'am." With that austere expression, she zoomed along. Wobbling with the loads on her hands, Antonia passed Allison not quite long, flashing her a sorry smile and Allison returned it.
