Nothing's better than memories and there is nothing worse than them.
He shivered from the cold. The cold marks decorating his skin made him feel pain. More so, the pain he felt in his entire body made him shiver as well.
He was laying on the cold floor which made him feel even more pain due to it's hardness.
His breathes came out as short and fast puffs from his mouth since he couldn't breathe through his nose which felt as if it was blocked. He had a cold as well.
His stomach growled as a reminder that he needed food. He hadn't eaten for a few days now and his body needed said food as quick as possible.
He swallowed hard trying to quench the thirst he felt with the little saliva present in his mouth but it was of no help.
In addition, his throat hurt a lot, he was having tonsils. The pain was like that of a hot coal placed in the inside of his throat whenever he attempted to swallow the saliva.
He wasn't sure if the tonsils came with the cold or if it came with the lack of water and dryness of the throat.
He hated the pain. He hated the cold. He hated everything he was going through. Over all, pain was something that could never be avoided in his life. It was part of his life and he had to adapt to it.
In short, he hated being sick.
Being sick made him feel weaker, vulnerable and fragile. Being sick made him hate himself which was the last thing he wanted.
He swallowed again, wincing at the pain that came along with it.
This was a very uncomfortable situation. If only he had food and water which he highly doubted if he would be able to eat and drink due to the pain he felt.
The good thing so far was that Mrs Rubis hadn't called for him yet. Moreover, how could she call for him when she had personally locked him up in the basement in the first place?
She had locked him up as punishment and so far, this was one of the worst things that she had done to him.
Mrs Rubis never seemed to regret any single thing that she did to him. She did not consider him human anyways so how could she treat him better?
She treated him like an animal and at times, worse!
He missed those times when it was just him and his parents. No other people from the outside world who treated him illy. His parents loved him so much and treated him like a Prince. He missed his father's bear hugs and his mother's kisses. At that time, he had no such scars on his face and body.
It had been a beautiful world at that time. A world that all would want to live forever and a world that others envied!
Korna had been a handsome young boy but now, the world had decided that he had had enough of all those privileges.
Not only did it take away his beautiful face, but it took away his world full of joy and sound of laughter, it took away his parents... The only people who had sincerely loved and treasured him.
The world gave him out to a life he had never pictured he'd ever live in. It gave him out to a place full of pain and his joy was turned to tears!
His future was not clear now and all his dreams were not valid anymore!
How could his dreams be valid when he was not allowed to step out without supervision? He was not allowed to go to school nor be in touch with other people? He was expected to work and keep his head low. Never to complain about a single thing done to him but to agree to all the demands they made!
For once in his life, as a hot bead of tear streamed down his eyes to the other eye then on his forearm which he had his head on, he wished for death!
He wished that he had died alongside his parents. He wished that he had never survived from that fire. He wished that whoever saved his life couldn't have succeeded and perhaps, he would be happy being with his parents in the soul realm if there indeed was any!
The sadness and void that filled his heart was so great and crying at the moment seemed suitable at this point. He sobbed out, he really wanted to get rid of the ache in his heart.
He felt so lonely and exhausted of life.
The jingle of the keys by the door was what made him cry all the more because Mrs Rubis was coming for him and he didn't want that to happen. He preferred being here in the basement away from her.
She was his biggest enemy and yet there was nothing he could do to keep himself safe from her.
The key was inserted in the key hole. It was turned open and the door knob was turned to push the door open.
She was in. A few metres away from him.
"Oof!" She exclaimed as she scrunched her nose in a disgusted manner.
"I leave you for a few days and here you are. Making a mess out of this place!" She stated as she walked down the few steps and landed a few inches away from the curled boy.
"You better clean this place! I want to find it spotless clean within the next twenty minutes!" She ordered.
"If not, you know what I shall do to you!" She said, pressing the sharp heel of her high heels on his rib.
Korna winced out in pain. More tears streamed down his cheeks as she pressed harder on his ribs.
"This is to give you more motivation in cleaning this place up. If I don't find this place clean..." She paused and leaned a little closer to him. "You shall suffer worse pain than this". She swore before straightening herself up and turned to walk away.
There was nothing he could do. This was his fate and he was tied to it.
