She stated as she walked to the door of the office. "Yes, give me about a day to settle in and I will start working on them. Do not forget that it is only about an hour away so, if you ever want to stop by, please do not hesitate." I said as I grabbed my bag to head out. "What is it that your brother actually does again" she asked as my short skinny finger pressed the button for the elevator. "I believe it something to do with real-estate for a big company. He deals with closing and
overlooking the property."
I answered as we walked into the elevator. "With that fancy house of his, they must be paying him very well." She said as we walked out into the lobby. "I guess so. I do not ask what they pay him." I opened the door to allow Kristen to walk into the garage. "Either way. I am going to miss my best friend." She said as she gave me a hug when we reached my car.
"Listen, it is only going to be a month that I will be away from work. After that, I will be making the drive back and forth until my brother gets back from his trip. We always house sit for each other." I explained as I got my keys out of my bag. "Yeah, I know but it still going to feel like forever. I will come up next weekend. I want to be beach side on that private beach of his." She said as I opened my car door. I leaned over to start the car, "I will make sure to have your favorite drink ready for you!"
She walked to her car which only couple cars over from mine as I backed out of the parking spot and stopped to make sure she got in before taking off. I turned on the radio when my Bluetooth on the radio started to ring.
I hit the button on the steering wheel to answer the phone, "Marc, have you already landed?" "Hey there, Maya. No, I am just about to get on the plane. I just wanted to make sure that you didn't forget anything and to make sure to pick up dog food for Bullet." His voice can be heard over the speaker of the car.
I replied to him as I turned on to the highway, "Yes, I got the dog food for Bullet and packed the car last night. Now, I am heading straight to the house." He laughed "Not a shocker, you were always prepared even when we were kids." I started to laugh "Yup, and you where the one always late. Let me guess, you had to change your flight because you missed the first one."
You can hear the embarrassment in his voice. "Of course. Oh, before I forget, there will be a coworker stopping by either tonight or tomorrow to get an envelope that is on my desk in my office. Please, make sure to give it to him when he gets there. His name is Derek." I ensured him that I would make sure Derek gets the envelope before we hung up.
I pulled up into the driveway when I pushed the car garage button on the steering wheel. Since I live in the city and do not have a car garage, when Marc bought the car for me, he programed his garage to work for when I house sit.
This was a way that he didn't have to give me a spare key and leave his door open that enters the house from the garage. I left the car door open as I shut off the car to take a deep breath of the ocean that was behind me.
I heard Bullet in the house going crazy while I gather my stuff from the car and carrying into the house. "Hey Buddy" I said as I opened the door and hit the button on the side to close the garage door before Bullet gets free.
Once he is free, that is it. His name is called Bullet for a reason. I placed my stuff on the side so I can greet Bullet. "Yes, I missed you too." I said as I rub my hand on the back of his black coat of hair. He is a Pitbull and is trained to protect those that he loves. He is extremely protective over me.
I lifted from the hardwood floor to flick on the lights and see a sink full a dish ready for me to clean. "Asshole" I whispered as I take out my phone and text Marc.
"Hey Asshole if you can read this on the plane. Thanks for the sink full of dishes."
I can see the three dots as he replied.
"Oh, Sorry and Thank you sis. I owe you"
I placed my phone on the counter, "I bet you are sorry."
I placed my ear buds in my ears and put on my 90s track and turned it up. I fed Bullet then let him out back to do his business. The backyard is fenced in so he cannot escape from the yard that looks over the ocean.
After shutting the screen door, I grab my things and walked up the staircase to the guest bedroom. I opened the door then searched with my hands for the light switch to see a perfectly made king size bed and threw my bags on the bed. I head back downstairs to do the dishes that my brother kindly left for me to do. I danced while doing the dishes and sang my lungs out. I knew that I would not bother the neighbors here where we're so far part from each other unlike my apartment in the city.
I closed my eyes as I was dancing when I turned towards the foyer. I opened my eyes to see a very well-built man standing in the kitchen while holding a gun to me.
"Who the hell are you?" he said.
