Chapter 6 Cunning Helper

"Aargh! Everyone in this car is useless, except Elena. None of you have sense!"

Clara gave everyone a mouthful on the way home. She only exempted Elena. Her blood was still boiling in her veins by the time they arrived home. She suddenly kicked Lyndon's rickety bike to the ground.

"You are such a loser. The sons-in-law of other families are good and capable men. But you are the laziest young man I have ever met. The only thing you can do properly is to ride this piece of junk.

Gosh! I'm so ashamed!"

"That's enough, Clara. He rides the bike because he can't afford to buy a car," Adrien cautioned his wife. He wasn't on Lyndon's side. He was just fed up with his wife's endless cursing.

Clara turned to face her husband. She pointed at him and cursed.

"You old bastard! So, you have the mouth to talk now? Why didn't you say anything when your family members were bullying Elena? You were supposed to stand up for her, but you were busy eating like a greedy pig. Shame on you!"

Elena hated to see her parents quarreling. She shook her head, bypassed them, and walked straight to her bedroom.

Today was one of the worst days of her life. Her hard work during the past six months was not paid back. Worse, she was faced with a more difficult task.

Just when Lyndon was about to go into Elena's room to comfort her, Clara roared, "What are you doing there? Get some water for us! I shouldn't have to tell you this. Do your job!"

Lyndon clenched his teeth to restrain his anger. He went to fetch some water, helped them wash their feet, and then mopped the floor.

"Get out of here. You disgust me!"

Clara shooed him away after she washed and dried her feet.

Lyndon left hurriedly. He then took a glass of water to Elena's room secretly.

Elena was lying on the bed at this time. She was staring blankly at the white ceiling. She was trying so hard to fathom what exactly she had done wrong in the past six months.

"Elena, I brought you a glass of water. Please drink some." Lyndon walked up to her with a smile.

Only one person in the entire family deserved to get a smile from Lyndon. And that person was Elena.

Due to her bad mood, Elena refused to take it. She said coldly, "Just so you know, I'm not going to look up to you because you defended me today."

Lyndon didn't take her words seriously. Having known her for years, he knew that she was kindhearted despite her sharp mouth.

As a result, he never took her harsh words to heart. The smile on his face didn't fade at this moment.

"Elena, I don't care if you look up to me or not. I just came here out of concern for your health.

Don't think too much about the task. You still have three days left. A lot can happen within that time. Just continue working hard like you have always done."

Lyndon stretched out the glass of water to her again.

Elena sat up and stared at him in a daze. Why was he so calm? He was humiliated today, but he still had a wide smile on his face. Why was he so optimistic?

Elena took the glass and said, "Thank you. You can go to your room now."

Lyndon nodded and went back to his room. Instead of going to sleep, he sent Flint a text message, put on a black suit, and secretly left the house.

"It's so late, Lyndon. Why did you ask me to come at this time?" Flint met Lyndon by the moat.

The cold night wind blew and it shook the water. Lyndon had his hands behind his back. He said, "You need to speed up on what I told you to do."

"Are you referring to the establishment of the real estate company?" Flint had been so excited that he started the process once he left here earlier today.

"I'm already on it. Based on my estimation, it would take two weeks to get the business license, find a perfect location, and finally establish the company. Everything is already in process," he said.

Under the moonlight, Lyndon spotted a mosquito and aimed to catch it. He crushed the mosquito between two of his fingers.

As Flint looked at Lyndon's actions, surprise flitted across his face.

"Two weeks is a long time. Chop, chop! Get everything done within three days. I'll handle the additional cost that comes with speeding things up. Do you understand?" Lyndon clapped his hands.

With the deadline that was upon Elena, he wanted to get her out of this mess.

"Three days?" Flint's heart skipped a beat. Hastening things up to that extent would cost an arm.

He wondered why Lyndon was in such a hurry, but he didn't dare to ask why. He just reasoned that the matter was urgent.

"Okay, I'll do as you have said!" Flint bowed and disappeared into the night.

Lyndon put his hands into his pockets and stared at the flowing water for a long time.

The next day was hectic for Elena. But she still wasn't able to sign any new contracts.

On the other hand, Addy was able to get back three long-term clients in one day. The contracts were valued at thirty million dollars.

"Elena, see you tomorrow." Addy waved at Elena at the gate of the company after closing hours. He also flashed her a mocking smile.

He then drove away in his Porsche.

As Elena stood there, sadness crept to her face.

"Don't let that get to you, Elena. You still have two days left." Tess tried to encourage her.

She could see that Elena was already beating herself up for her failure to sign any contracts today. Thus, she feared that Elena might even stay awake all night.

"Hey, Elena. It's time for you to get off work." Lyndon arrived at the company on his old bike.

"You again! Why are you here?" Tess questioned him, knitting her eyebrows in disgust.

Although Tess was always mean to Lyndon, he didn't dislike her because she was Elena's good friend.

He just replied with a smile, "Hey, Tess. I'm not here to make trouble. I just came to pick up Elena."

"What? You came to pick her up?" Tess threw her head back and looked at the rickety bike in front of her.

Guessing what she was thinking, Lyndon looked at the Ford nearby and said awkwardly, "Well, I came to escort her home."

Tess wanted to reprimand Lyndon, but she decided not to waste her time. She was about to take Elena to the car when she saw a Cayenne drive in.

The luxurious car drove straight to Lyndon at high speed.

"Lyndon, watch out!" Elena shouted in fear.

Tess was also frightened. She had her heart in her mouth when she saw that the Cayenne was less than ten centimeters away from Lyndon's bike.

Fortunately, the car came to a halt in a split second.

Lyndon didn't move a muscle while this was happening. He could make out the distance of the car without looking back. From the sound of the engine and the screeching of the tires, he knew that he wasn't going to get hit.

He already had another way of escaping if the driver didn't hit the brakes.

The concerned look on Elena's face warmed Lyndon's heart. This was why he always wanted to protect her.

When Elena saw that he was smiling at her, she frowned at him.

"You almost died! How can you smile in the face of death? Don't you value your life?" Elena was barely out of the shock. She was still beautiful despite her flustered look.

Her chest heaved, revealing her cleavage.

"Calm down, Elena. I'm fine." Lyndon smiled more brightly.

At this moment, Garry came down from the car and shouted, "Loser, are you courting death? Why didn't you move away when you saw my car?"

Tess frowned slightly. She felt that Garry was supposed to be apologizing to Lyndon, not shouting at him.

But she kept her lips sealed in order not to offend him.

Garry looked at Elena and said lovingly, "Did I scare you, sweetie? It's all his fault. But I'm fine. Thank goodness I was able to hit the brakes in time.

Anyway, I've got good news for you. There's a construction company that's willing to do business with Hytai. They want to order goods worth five million dollars."

"Five million?" A wry smile appeared on Elena's face.

Many companies had shown interest in working with Hytai before, but they all pulled out overnight.

Even now that Garry had helped her secure this deal, it was still nothing compared to the deals Addy had already closed today.

"Yes, I will bring many clients for you. I'm currently working on some big-time ones. Don't worry. You'll bag many contracts soon." A proud smile appeared on Garry's face as he spoke assuredly.

Lyndon glared at him suspiciously. He knew that Garry was doing all these because he wanted to get close to Elena.

He planned to help her get more clients? Not really.

"Elena, it's getting late. Let me drive you home. I need to talk to you about some more details," said Garry.

Elena knew that Garry was only trying to steal some of her time. Her first instinct was to refuse, but she decided against it after remembering that he had helped her. She invited him to dinner instead.

Lyndon had no choice but to follow the two cars. His bike was old, so it wasn't as fast as the cars. They arrived at the Collins family's villa long before he did. Clara gave Garry a warm welcome.

"Thank you so much, Garry. If not for you, Elena wouldn't have closed a deal today." A big smile was plastered on Clara's face as she poured wine for him.

"Don't mention it. It's my honor to help Elena," Garry remarked, smiling humbly.

As soon as Lyndon arrived, Clara began to compare him to Garry.

"You are such an exceptional man. Unlike someone else I know, you are handsome and you make a living for yourself. I want Elena to marry a man like you. She can't settle for a loser who will ruin her."

As always, Lyndon didn't let Clara's words get to him. He just greeted, "Good evening, Elena, Mr. and Mrs. Collins. I'm back."

A trace of guilt appeared on Elena's face when she saw him. She felt pity for him because he had to ride a bike in such cold weather.

"Welcome. We were about to have dinner. Join us," Elena said, motioning at an empty chair.

Clara immediately got short with him. "Don't you dare! Have you mopped the floors today? What about the laundry? Have you tidied all the bedrooms?"

All that Clara just mentioned were part of his daily chores. Lyndon had no choice but to leave the dining room.

Elena wanted to stop Lyndon, but Garry suddenly raised his glass and made a toast. "Let's drink to Elena's forthcoming success. I promise to secure more contracts for her in the next two days. She will surely win!"

"You are a good man. When all this is over, I'll personally cook for you." Clara continued to praise Garry. From her perspective, she wanted Elena to get married to him immediately.

She believed he would be a perfect son-in-law.
