Chapter 9 Get Through The Crucial Period

A doctor walked over and was just about to lift Ivanka, who was sitting in a wheelchair, but he was stopped by Liam.

"You..." The doctor looked up and saw Liam who looked like he was about to lose his temper.

Without saying anything, Liam lifted Ivanka up and carefully laid her on the stretcher himself. Without delay, a group of doctors and nurses wheeled her into the emergency room.

Several people were waiting outside the emergency room.

"Mr. Xiao, five people have just finished the blood test and all of them are qualified blood donors," the director of the XH Hospital walked up to Liam and respectfully informed him.

Nodding his head, Liam said, "Okay." With a simple wave of his hand, Tim quickly rushed over.

"Give them money." After saying this, Liam went ahead and followed the director into the emergency room. Ivanka was still in a coma.

"The patient has made it through the crucial period, and her condition is gradually stabilizing," said a middle-aged doctor when he saw Liam and the director walk in.

"When is she going to regain consciousness?" Liam asked in a low voice.

At that moment, the middle-aged doctor seemed somewhat helpless. "In theory, she should have already woken up by this time..."

"Then, why hasn't she woken up yet?" Liam asked in a low voice. There was a bit of a sullen look on his face, which left the doctor stunned for a moment. For some reason, he couldn't help feeling afraid.

Although he wasn't supposed to be on night duty tonight, he was woken up by the director, who told him that a VIP client was on his way to the hospital, and he had to perform a surgery. Because of that, the doctor thought that it was probably something serious. He had no choice but to get up from the bed and come to the hospital at once.

Much to his surprise, he only had to perform a minor surgery, as the patient's wrist got injured and she was losing too much blood. The only major issue was the girl's blood type, which was quite difficult to obtain. After searching through a long list in the blood bank all over the country, they finally managed to find a handful of people who matched her blood type. Thankfully, the main issue had been resolved. Be that as it might, the girl still remained unconscious.

Based on previous cases, there was only one possibility.

"There's a possibility that the patient subconsciously doesn't want to wake up." The middle-aged doctor gave his opinion. "Mr. Xiao, may I ask if the patient has been over-stimulated recently?" This caused Liam to fall into silence.

'Overstimulated?' As a matter of fact, she did. Could that be the reason why she subconsciously didn't want to wake up? "Is there anything I can do to wake her up?" Liam anxiously asked.

The middle-aged doctor and the director glanced at each other and could tell that the girl probably held a special place in Liam's heart, so one of them said, "Mr. Xiao, you should try telling her something that she would like to hear."

With that, everyone else walked out of the ward except for Liam. The only sound that could be heard was the one coming from the cold machine that monitored her vital signs.

Feeling so weary, Liam sat right next to Ivanka. Then, he leaned in closer and whispered in her ear, "If you don't wake up, I'm going to kill Bruce."

Faintly, Ivanka felt as though someone was telling her something. "If you don't wake up, I'm going to kill Bruce."

Bruce? Ivanka's mind was in such a mess. Who was Bruce? All at once, countless scenes flashed through Ivanka's mind like a movie.

"I'm here. No one can bully you anymore." At this point, Ivanka finally woke up! Bruce was the one who said those words to her! There was no way she would let anyone hurt Bruce! She kept running forward, as if she had seen a glowing light at the end of the tunnel and was trying to reach the exit. She tried her best to keep running forward, and the light kept growing brighter and brighter.

It came to a point where the light was so blinding that she couldn't open her eyes any longer.

At that moment, she felt the distinct smell of disinfectant wafting through her nose along with the sound of something dripping. It would seem that a bag of blood was being supplied into her blood vessels through the transfusion tube. Was she in the hospital again?

"You're finally awake." She heard a man's voice. When she looked around, she found out that it was Liam who said that. Ivanka suddenly became so anxious.

"You... What are you doing here?" she asked in a hoarse voice.

With a contemptuous look on his face, he looked at her and said, "Ivanka, I saved you again. How would you like to pay me back?" It was only then that Ivanka finally recalled everything. Her eyes, which were filled with so much confusion, suddenly became empty. An intense feeling of sadness welled up in her heart.

With her eyebrows deeply knit, she said,

"You shouldn't have saved me." Her voice sounded strained and weak. "Ivanka, if it weren't for me, you wouldn't be here right now. I'm the one who'll decide whether you're going to live or die," Liam said in a rather overbearing tone. Looking him straight in the eye, Ivanka opened her mouth and asked, "Are you a man of your word?"

"What?" Liam couldn't help frowning.

"You said once I wake up, you would let me go," she said as she looked at him, with an expectant look in her eyes.

With his face as long as a fiddle, Liam felt his chest tighten. Ivanka remained calm the whole time. Heaving a heavy sigh, Liam helplessly replied, "Okay, you can go."

As soon as he had given his word, Ivanka closed her eyes and went back to sleep again.

Ivanka didn't stay in the hospital for much longer, and she never saw Liam again after that night. When she was finally discharged from the hospital, the nurse handed an envelope over to her and seemed quite envious when she said, "Mr. Xiao asked me to give this to you."

Ivanka took it over and opened it. There was a check inside with her name on it. She looked at the amount and sneered. How generous he was! She walked out of the hospital, crumpled the check into a ball and threw it into the trash can. Without delay, she booked the latest flight back to A City online after withdrawing some money from the ATM. After buying the ticket, she hailed a taxi and headed straight to the airport.

"Yes, Mrs. Xiao has left the hospital."

On the road, in an inconspicuous Passat, a man was talking to the person on the other end of the line. "Okay, I see."

In the airport, Ivanka was looking through her bag. It seemed that Liam had given everything back to her. She tried turning her phone on, only to find that the battery was dead. This left her with no other choice but to charge her phone in the airport. In less than five minutes, the boarding notice appeared at the airport. She darted toward the boarding gate, boarded the plane, and went back to A City.

Two hours later, the plane landed safely in A City.

As soon as Ivanka got off the plane, she hailed a taxi and rushed to get back home. When she got there, she anxiously rang the doorbell.

A moment later, the gate was slowly opened. Ivanka hurriedly ran toward the entrance to the villa and took out the key to open it. However, she stumbled upon something she wasn't expecting to see-a portrait of an old man displayed in the middle of the living room.

Ivanka's heart sank and tears came rushing down her face.

"You...! I thought you were never coming back." A woman's voice came from a corner of the living room. "Where the heck have you been these past couple of days?"

After looking around, Ivanka saw a middle-aged woman in plain white clothes staring at her with bloodshot eyes. The deep hatred was visible in her eyes, which made Ivanka feel as cold as ice.

At that moment, Ivanka felt like a fishbone was stuck in her throat and the words wouldn't come out. Then, she mustered up the courage to open her mouth and said, "Mom." In what felt like a blink of an eye, the middle-aged woman walked up to her and slapped her hard.

It was so hard that Ivanka felt weak in the knees. She covered her face, and her head was buzzing.

"How dare you come back so late?" Then, the woman pointed a finger right at her and furiously said, "If it weren't for you, your grandfather wouldn't have left us so soon!"
