Chapter 3 A Special Invitation

Mike, Claud's best classmate, sat on the other side of the sofa, drinking alone. He kept silent from beginning to end. When he heard that they were going to bet on Lettie, he got so angry that he subconsciously dropped his wineglass on the floor. Fortunately, the lights in the bar were dim. No one noticed the vexed expression on his face.

Claud and the others looked at Mike in surprise. And they were more shocked when he stood up and said coldly, "I'll go ahead, guys. Enjoy yourselves."

"Mike, what do you mean?"

Claud asked in confusion. However, Mike just ignored him. Watching Mike walking away without looking back, he muttered, "What's wrong with him? Has he gone crazy?"

But since everyone was having fun, they just let Mike go and continued to enjoy.

In a high-end villa, Claud was inside his room.

The sound of the keyboard could be heard from time to time as his slender fingers pressed some keys. He was playing on his computer, but his eyes were focused on his phone.

He was restlessly waiting for a call.

All of a sudden, his phone rang. Claud immediately picked it up without even checking who the caller was. It was as if he already knew who would call at that time.

"Hey, Ava! How was it? What did Lettie say?"

he asked excitedly. Ava seemed surprised when she said, "What? I haven't even gone back to our dormitory to tell her about it yet."

"Then go back there and tell her now. Ava, I really don't understand why you love staying outside on such a hot day. You'd better stay in your dormitory."

"I'm outside because of your party. I want to buy a decent dress to wrap myself up so I won't embarrass you."

"Whoa! When did you learn to speak to me sarcastically?" Then Claud suddenly remembered to ask, "By the way, why did you call?"

"I have something to tell you," Ava replied in a serious tone. "Claud, I just want to remind you that if Lettie agrees to go to your house for the party, you must pay attention to your image in front of her. And your friends as well. Tell them to watch their words and behave properly. Don't frighten her away."

Claud almost couldn't believe his ears. "Scare her away? You're exaggerating!"

"No, I'm not. If you don't believe me, just see it yourself when she's there. Lettie doesn't like playboys. She's actually a Leo. I suggest you check Baidu for more information about them, so you will understand what I'm talking about."

Although a Leo was domineering, they were absolutely kind and faithful.

Claud felt happy upon hearing the information. With a smile, he said, "So she's a Leo. I like that."

"Claud, I know you have that cheeky smile on your face right now. Well, don't blame me for not reminding you. I have to go now. I still need to find a way to convince her to go with me."

"Okay. Don't worry. I'll remember everything you said." Claud looked at his watch and added, "You have to hurry now. Otherwise, you'll be late for the party later. Make sure that you bring her with you. I will surely reward you handsomely if you make it."

"I'm not interested in your reward." Ava couldn't help wondering if Claud really had a crush on Lettie.

After hanging up, Claud got even more restless. He stood up, walked to the French window, and looked at the distance. In his mind, he asked, 'Would she really come?' All of a sudden, he felt a little unconfident that he could win the deal with his friends. He was wondering how he could make her fall in love with him.

Eventually, he could only sigh and shake his head. Indeed, being a youth was somewhat troublesome.

Ava arrived at their dormitory with a bag in her hand. She stood at the door and listened carefully. It was strangely quiet inside. She pushed the door lightly and walked in. Lettie was there, lying on her bed and reading a book attentively. Lettie didn't even notice that she was already there.

As usual, Lettie was reading again.

Ava closed the door and complained, "Lettie, why are you reading again? Is there nothing else you can do except reading?"

Lettie looked up and answered, "Well, we don't have a TV in the dormitory. I have nothing else to do, so I read."

"Don't you know that people who stay at home all day long easily suffer from depression?"

Lettie burst into laughter. "Where did you get that? Ava, you're making up stories again. You really have a wide imagination."

"Lettie, it's true. If you don't believe me, ask our classmates. They all say so too."

Lettie said nothing. She just smiled and lowered her head back to the book she was reading.

She didn't notice that Ava was now very anxious. Claud had given Ava a difficult task. Ava sat on the edge of the bed anxiously and grabbed the book from Lettie's hand. "Stop reading, okay? Get up and change your clothes. I'll help you with your makeup. You're going to a party with me."

"A party?" Lettie asked in surprise.

"Yes. One of our classmates will hold a party. Please, don't refuse my invitation. This is the first time I beg you."

"Really?" Lettie was still unconvinced. They were classmates. Why didn't she know that one of their classmates was holding a party? Ava must be playing a trick on her again.

"Lettie, I'm serious."

"Ava, stop playing tricks on me, okay?" Lettie grabbed the book back from Ava and continued to read.

"Lettie, I'm not playing tricks on you. I've already made a promise. You must go with me to the party. I won't let you refuse this time. I'll go to your wardrobe and choose a dress for you."

It was only then that Lettie realized that Ava was serious. Looking sideways at Ava, she said politely, "Ava, I really don't want to go to a party. Please forgive me, but I'm really not used to be with so many people. Besides, I don't know them. And if my mother finds out, she will be angry at me. You'd better go alone."

"I can't believe that a beautiful woman like you is such a nerd. Of course, your mother won't find out if you don't tell her." Ava grabbed the book from Lettie again and threw it on top of the bookshelf behind her. She then said, "You always read. You read in the class all day. You read in bed at night. When are you going to stop reading? Are you going to wait for the time that you become crazy?"

Lettie burst into laughter again. "You sound like my mother." She paused for a while before asking seriously, "Do you really want me to go with you?"

Ava answered at once, "Of course! I really want you to go with me."

"Okay. But just this once." Lettie was not as lofty and cold as other people thought. It was only because of her status in life that she subconsciously developed a subtle sense of inferiority. But in fact, she was kind, lively, and even a little humorous in nature. However, no one else knew her well except Ava.

"Okay. Just this once." Ava felt relieved, but she couldn't help thinking, 'Damn! It wasn't easy to persuade her. I wonder what will happen between her and Claud in the future.'
