Chapter 2 A Terrible Man

Once Shawn was done with his speech, he motioned Trevor for to get onto the stage and greet everyone. There wasn't a hint of timidity on Trevor's face. He went to the stage and smiled at everyone. Even though Reese was staring at him, he barely glanced in her direction. People were impressed with him and they had a tough time peeling their eyes off him.

He was polite and looked like a gentleman, completely different from what Reese had witnessed in the corridor a while ago. His tight grip had left a mark on her wrist. She looked at it. 'If it weren't for this mark, I would have thought I had imagined the whole thing, ' she thought with disbelief.

Once they left the stage, Reese was overcome by an eerie feeling. She always felt that someone was watching her. But every time she glanced at Trevor, she saw him look elsewhere. This continued for a while and at last she caught him! When she met his eyes, the same playful look was back on his face. She flushed red.

She completed all the necessary rituals mechanically. Her mind was wandering. As soon as the ceremony was over, she went back to an old house owned by the Shen family. On their way, Jacob held her hand lovingly.

"Are you tired? You must be very tired today. I have never been so sad about being blind. It's a pity I can't see my beautiful bride," Jacob said once they were settled in their room.

"It's okay. I'm not at all tired," Reese answered and moved away from him. His advances had begun to make her feel uncomfortable.

Jacob realized she was moving away from him. Instead of questioning her about it, he merely smiled. Gently, he said, "I've asked a maid to run a bath for you. You go take a shower first. I am pretty sure you must be tired after wearing high heels all day long."

"That's very kind of you. Thank you," Reese said, feeling grateful for his kindness. Deep down, guilt was eating her alive. After the encounter she had with Trevor today, she was afraid of physical intimacy. But she swore she would be nice to Jacob in the future. Even if she couldn't fall in love with him, she would be loyal to him.

After the shower, the tiredness of the whole day vanished. The warm water loosened the sore muscles of her body. She found herself stretching comfortably. When she pushed the door and went out, she couldn't help but heave a sigh of relief.

"Ah!"

Trevor, who had changed into household clothes, was standing in front of her. He stood leaning against the wall with his arms crossed over his chest. She ask, "Why are you here?"

As soon as she finished speaking, Reese realized how absurd her question had been. This was the Shen family's house, and Trevor was a member of the family. It was completely normal for him to be here.

"Wow! You smell divine. I could eat you." As he spoke, he moved closer. With his firm hands, he forced her inside the bathroom, lowered his head and inhaled the scent of her body.

"Reese? What's wrong? Are you hut?"

When Reese was about to scold Trevor, she caught sight of Jacob moving towards them. Panic-stricken, he was looking for her.

Thinking of the intimate position she was in with Trevor, fear coursed through her. Reese was shocked and didn't know what to do. If she didn't respond, she was afraid Jacob would bump into something and hurt himself. For his safety, she found her voice and answered, "I'm fine! I just saw a bug!"

"Ha-ha! Nice excuse," Trevor whispered as he sneered disdainfully.

"Oh, that's alright. This is an old house and I have heard we have insects here. Luckily, it's just a matter of few hours. We will go back to the city tomorrow." Upon hearing that she was fine, Jacob breathed a sigh of relief and went back into the bedroom.

"Oh, what a poor man! He was fooled by his wife," Trevor said coldly as he looked into her eyes. She couldn't tell what was going on in his mind. His eyes contained so many emotions.

"Go away!" She was tired of him. She wished there was a way to get rid of him. Pushing him away, she ran out of the bathroom. Even though he was a shameless man, he wouldn't dare to act blatantly in front of his family.

Sure enough, Trevor didn't chase after her anymore. But there was a playful look on his face that made Reese feel like a cub that had fallen into a trap. She loathed feeling this way, but there was nothing she could do about it.

"Reese," called Jacob. She was back in the room. Jacob came out of the bathroom after taking a shower. As he moved closer to her, the scent of shower gel wafted through the air. Reese, who was sitting on the edge of the bed, began to feel restless. She started fidgeting.

"Well, the water is dripping from your hair," Reese said as she looked at him. Being his wife, there were some responsibilities she had to take care of.

"I..." Jacob faltered, not knowing what to say.

"It's okay. Let me help you dry your hair. Otherwise, you might catch a cold." Reese stepped forward and made him sit on the bed.

A smile crept on Jacob's face. "Okay," he agreed in an instant.

Since Jacob's hair was quite short, it didn't take that long for her to dry it. It was their wedding night and Reese feared what was about to come next. Somehow, she tried to console herself saying it was natural. After all, she had made up her mind to please him as much as possible.

In spite of this, she feared being intimate with him. 'No, not today, ' she thought to herself. Jacob didn't seem like a man who would make her do something against her will.

"Reese," Jacob said and put his hand on her back.

"Ah! Please go way!" Rachel jumped from the bed. A simple touch made her behave so frantically.

After that, she came to her senses. She looked at Jacob awkwardly and mumbled, "I...I just..."

"It's okay, Reese. I understand." With a broad smile, Jacob got up and searched for her hands. "I am not the kind of man who will force you into doing something that you aren't interested in.

I'm willing to wait till the day you accept me." Hearing Jacob's words, Reese felt even guiltier. He was such an understanding man.

"Thank you for understanding. Also, don't worry. We will get along soon. I sincerely wish to have a good life with you, Mr. Shen," Reese said firmly. But there was a part of her that believed this would never happen.

"Well, let's start from scratch. What did you call me? Now that we are married, you shouldn't call me Mr. Shen." Jacob smiled gently and sat down again.

Reese realized his words made sense. Tentatively, she asked, "Well, shall I call you Jacob from now on?"

"Okay. Sounds fine to me." Jacob nodded. A yawn escaped from his mouth. "Well, it's late now. Let's go to sleep. Even though we are sharing the bed, I won't touch you. Don't worry."

"Okay." Reese was still skeptical. However, she knew it would be wrong to make him sleep on the floor. Besides, she had to get used to Jacob if she wished to get rid of this discomfort. Lifting the quilt, she jumped onto the bed. She was lying on the edge of the bed.

On turning around, she noticed Jacob was very considerate. He left a huge space between them.

"Go to sleep, Reese," he said, sensing she was looking at him.

"Okay, good night."

After a few minutes, Jacob's breath became even, letting her know he had fallen asleep. It had been a long day and she was extremely tired. However, the events that took place relayed in her mind. Plus, the strange environment made it difficult for her to fall asleep. She was tossing and turning, not knowing what to do.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Reese got out of the bed and went to answer it. She was aware that Jacob had to take medicine every day because of his condition. 'Perhaps it is one of the servants, ' she thought and opened the door quickly.

To her disbelief, it was the man who had tortured her the whole day. As soon as she saw Trevor, she decided to close the door. But he was faster than her. With his strong arms, he stopped her from shutting the door.

Afraid of waking Jacob up, Reese didn't dare to speak loudly. She lowered her voice and looked at him with dissatisfaction. "Why are you here at this hour? I am going back to sleep!"

"No, you shouldn't sleep. I have something much more interesting for you." A hungry gleam could be seen in his eyes. His words sent shivers down her spine.

"What the hell are you doing?" Reese wanted to shout for help but her sleeping husband was the only thing that kept her from doing so.

"Don't you remember the question I asked you today? I asked you to pick between being taken away from the wedding and having an affair. Since you decided to marry him, I figured you must like the latter."

Trevor was shameless and wasn't scared of Reese. Perhaps he knew she was a coward who wouldn't make a sound. Either way, he was ready to take advantage of her innocence.

"Your brother is still inside! Are you still going to mess around?" Reese wanted to instil fear in him.

However, Trevor shrugged off her concerns. The fact that Jacob was present made no difference to him. "He is nothing but a bastard. But looks like you are scared of him. In that case, let's get down to business."

"What did you just say? Bastard?" Reese asked, not understanding his words. Soon, Trevor pulled her out of the room and pressed against the wall.

Trevor had no intention of showing any mercy. Lifting up her skirt, he decided to make her his.

"Ah!" The pain made Reese scream. Horrified, she looked at Trevor. She didn't know he was capable of being so brutal.

Her shrill cry woke Jacob. Soon, he realized Reese's side of the bed was empty. "Reese? Is that you? Are you fine?"

"Why don't you answer him? Do you want him to come here and catch us?" Trevor didn't stop what he was doing. Instead, he whispered in her ear as he took pleasure in wrecking her body. Wanting to punish her more, he bit her ear.

Reese continued to glare at him as her eyes brimmed with tears. "I was going to get water. Since it was dark, I stubbed by toe on the chair," she answered, suppressing her pain and rage.
