Chapter 9 Eric's Birthday

On the stone bench of the community, a young man had been sitting for a long time. The window on the third floor with light green curtains shone gently. His sister's sweet voice came through. But at this moment, his heart ached.

A few minutes later, the pain was alleviated a lot. He picked up his schoolbag and went upstairs.

"Hello, welcome!" The doorbell rang. Through the peephole, Rachel saw her brother standing outside with a big smile on his face.

"Grandma," she whispered to Joanna, "Ready."

Joanna waved at her, "don't worry!"

The door was suddenly opened.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!"

In the darkness, twenty colorful candles instantly lit up. Joanna was wearing an exaggerated birthday dress, smiling with wrinkles spreading in circles.

"Baby, happy birthday!"

Hearing that, Eric was stunned. He stood at the door for a long time without any response.

"Silly boy, come in." Joanna pulled her grandson into the house from her long sleeves.

As soon as Eric entered the living room, he saw his sister walking out of the light with a smile. She was wearing a colorful ring on the head, holding a guitar with all kinds of lights shining, and singing to him:

"Happy Birthday to you...

The morning was happy, and the night was sweet...

Happy birthday to you...

There was love in every life, and there were songs every year... "

In the warm song, Rachel's long hair danced gently with the rhythm. There were faint dimples on her round face, and her bright eyes were shining like gems.

In the gentle light, the handsome face of Eric was full of happiness, and the darkness in his unfathomable eyes was replaced by a quickly rising smile.

After putting the guitar in her brother's hand, Rachel stood on tiptoe, took off the ring on her neck and put it on Eric's head. She gently kissed his forehead and smoothed the messy hair on his forehead.

"This is the ring made up by your sister. There are roses. I hope you can meet a good love. There are carnations. I hope you are healthy and happy. There are stars all over the sky. I hope you can be lucky..."

Eric stretched out his arms and held his sister in his arms.

"Thank you."

Joanna leaned against the door and looked at the loving sister and brother, with a warm and mysterious smile at the corners of her mouth.

"Grandma, where is your gift for me?"

Rachel raised her head from her brother's chest and said to her silent grandma.

"Oh, look at me," Joanna ran into her bedroom and came out with a small thing in her hand:

"This is the goddess made of jade. I begged in the temple last time to bless Eric safe, and happy for a lifetime!"

She put the jade goddess on her grandson and prayed in her heart, 'God, you must let him live safely.'.

"Well, it's time for you to make a wish."

Rachel said to her brother expectantly, lighting up the candles.

"Make a wish?"

Eric hesitated. He looked up at his sister and then looked at his grandmother.

"Yes, your wish must come true."

The wish at the moment? Looking at his sister and grandmother, Eric closed his eyes, crossed his hands and made a pious wish.

A moment later, he opened his eyes and blew out the candles with all his strength.

"But, what wish did you make?" Joanna asked curiously.

"The wish I made is..." looking at his grandmother, Eric smiled and said, "grandmother, it won't work if I say it out."

"Oh," Joanna nodded, "then let's stop talking."

"Well, dinner is ready now!"

Rachel put the dishes on the table and shouted at her grandmother and brother.

"Grandma, try the braised pork. Eric, this is your favorite fish flavor shredded pork... " She picked up food for them and watched them eat with expectation.

"Braised pork smells good!" Joanna couldn't help praising her.

"Yes, it's delicious." Eric praised seriously while eating.

Rachel's face was as bright and beautiful as a little sunflower.
