Chapter 3 Rebirth (Part One)

Yuliana's body sank, and that sudden feeling of falling down made her open her eyes abruptly.

A sound of firecrackers echoed in her ears, which made her brows knit together tightly.

She was feeling sore all over her body.

Suddenly, she became sober in an instant when her body was abruptly hit by a crutch.

Yuliana immediately sat up and saw her grandmother, Joanna. Her face twisted in anger as she glared at her.

"Don't you know it's your cousin's promotion banquet today? Why are you still sleeping? You...you want to embarrass her on purpose, don't you? Now that you've graduated, you think you can sleep late. Huh?!"

Hatred was obvious in Joanna's eyes as she looked at Yuliana's face. Her features looked exactly like Jade's.

Yuliana was quite confused as seeing her grandmother's face. She was already dead, but her grandmother wasn't. So how come her grandmother was seeing her and even talking to her?

Shouldn't she be seeing Marco who had been killed?

Did her grandmother die too?

"Are you listening to me?!" Seeing that Yuliana was still in a daze, Joanna frowned and raised her crutch to hit the child once again. To be honest, the beating was more about Yuliana than about her actions. The woman hated seeing Yuliana's innocent expressions, as if the whole world was bullying and mocking her through that beautiful face.

A sharp pain spread through every corner of her body once again, and Yuliana finally understood what was going on. She looked at her grandmother in disbelief.

"Grandma!" "Just in time", Brenna ran to Joanna.

With tears in her eyes, she tried to hold back her grandmother's raising arm and pitifully tried to reason with her. "Maybe Yuliana forgot it. Maybe she just wants to have a rest. Don't blame her please, Grandma."

Yuliana would have believed the girl if she hadn't been reborn. But she knew better now!

What did Brenna even mean by "Maybe Yuliana forgot it"? Joanna had been looking forward to this day since forever. Today was Brenna's promotion banquet. From several days ago, she had begun to warn Marco and Yuliana to show respect to Brenna.

But Yuliana just "forgot" it. How would her grandmother think of her then?

These words seemed like they had been uttered as a plea for Yuliana, but in fact, they were pushing her into a dilemma. Yuliana was so stupid in her previous life that she had never understand what they meant or implied. She really thought that Brenna was pleading for her and was even grateful to her.

And sure enough, as soon as the words were uttered, Joanna's face darkened.

In her opinion, it was unforgivable for Yuliana to forget such an important thing.

"Mom." Perhaps it was because of the loud noise that the beating was causing, Jade was alerted and she came over instantly to block Joanna's crutch with her own body. Seeing Yuliana being beaten, she was feeling sorry for her daughter.

"Mom, you know that Yuliana was hit yesterday. She doesn't feel well and wants to sleep more today. I think it's best that she gets some rest because her wound hasn't healed yet." Jade tried to explain with a smile. "Besides, the banquet has barely started."

Joanna squinted at her with disdain and coldly replied, "No. I think it's because she doesn't know how to behave. Otherwise, why wasn't Queenie hit? She was the only one who was hit." She became rather impatient after saying those words, and the sight of Jade and Yuliana annoyed her furthermore. Therefore, Joanna didn't want to stay here any longer. She gave Yuliana a last, hard look and then rolled her eyes. "Get up quickly!"

Seemingly innocently, Brenna nodded at Yuliana and eagerly came to Joanna's side and helped her walk out of the room.

Jade sighed softly. Her eyes were full of a cowardly look. "Look. Your Grandma is getting old, and she is a little strange. Don't take it to heart. It's really late now. Now, get dressed. The guests are coming." If it hadn't been for the sadness in Jade's eyes, Yuliana might have actually believed that the strange things that Joanna did were because of her age.

But she could see that none of Joanna's weirdness were ever aimed at Brenna.

Jade was a kind-hearted and beautiful woman. The only bad thing about her was that she was too cowardly and seemed like she was totally at the mercy of others. That was the main reason it wasn't surprising to see Joanna bully Jade.

Yuliana remembered that Brenna's promotion banquet was held on two days after she had graduated from university.

Yuliana was confused. Was God going to give her a chance to live again?

Her delicate face was clouded with darkness. In her previous life, she had been blind and totally incompetent when it came to believing in the wrong crowd. But that was before! She could not let her family be in danger this life.

"Yuliana." Marco was wearing a white suit and he simply could not hide the affection in his eyes. He hid one hand behind his back and smiled brightly. "May I come in?"

His face was charming and featured, which was quite similar to Yuliana's. His love for his sister was from the bottom of his heart.

Yuliana turned to the direction of the door. Seeing Marco again was giving her the feeling as if it had been a lifetime since they'd met. Thinking about how her brother had been killed by Tyler and Brenna, she failed to hold back herself. Her nose twitched and tears welled up in her eyes.

Marco had stepped into the room with one foot. However, panicked at her teary eyes, he quickly withdrew his foot and told her in a pitiful tone, "Look. If you don't want me to come in there, I can just stand here and talk to you."

His warm and gentle voice made Yuliana burst into tears.

Seeing that his sister had suddenly started crying, Marco didn't know what to do. He rubbed his hands and looked at Jade for help.

"What's wrong with my sister, Mom?"

In Marco's memory, although Yuliana had always been fragile and needed protection, she wasn't the sort of person who started crying easily. Something had to go very wrong for her tears to come out.

Or had she changed her personality after graduation?

"Look at you two!" There was a melancholy look in Jade's charming eyes when she chuckled and complained to Marco, "Can't you see that your sister is still in pajamas?"

Marco, who had always been a bit arrogant, suddenly understood what was going on. He stuck out his tongue like a spoiled child, made a cute face at Yuliana and quietly left the room.

"Yuliana, I bought you this new pair of shoes. Would you like to try them on?" Jade smiled.

When Yuliana's hands touched the high-heeled shoes in her mother's hands, her bright eyes suddenly turned cold.

This was the work of a world famous designer. Such was the rarity of his art that people said that the artist only produced two pairs of shoes every year.
