Chapter 3 Life In Danger

"An expert in cardiology?! Are you kidding me?! My wife's having a baby! Not a heart attack!" A dark undercurrent entered the man's panicked voice.

Although hope bloomed in his heart when Vincent said that he'd help with his wife, it was brutally trampled down on by despair. When he managed to convince himself that there were male obstetricians, but it turned out that Vincent wasn't one after all. Hope and despair warred with each other in his heart. How could he possibly control his emotions in this desperate situation?

As his mind became more and more addled, it seemed like he'd collapse before his wife. As soon as he heard Vincent's words, red hot anger flamed in his heart and quickly woke him up from his stupor.

"Sir, don't worry. I'm also a doctor. Although I'm not an obstetrician, I'm a pediatrician. But if there would be a need for emergency treatment, I'll try my best to help," Lydia cautiously offered. Although the man losing control of his emotions made Lydia a little scared to get involved with the situation, the terrified sobs of the pregnant woman had her hurrying to offer whatever comfort she could.

Albeit Lydia claimed that she was a doctor, she actually had just finished an internship and hadn't officially registered for work. Since her career hadn't even begun, there was no way she'd be a professional in delivering babies.

Even though Lydia was a pediatrician, pediatrics and obstetrics were still two different things.

However, this was a matter of life and death. No matter how scared she was, she had to appear confident and let her words flow naturally. For reasons unknown even to herself, Lydia felt immense trust in the words of the excellent man next to her.

Pediatrician?

A bitter smile appeared on the face of the husband. Here they were, stuck in an elevator with his wife about to give birth, but the people with them were doctors unsuited for the task. How could he possibly rest assured and not feel afraid?

Terrified didn't even begin to cover what he was feeling!

His heart was pounding against his chest!

Right when the man felt like he was on the verge of tipping over a steep cliff, footsteps from the outside snapped him back to the present.

Exactly as Vincent expected, the firefighters finally arrived.

Hope bloomed once more in the man's heart for the firefighters to open the elevator door on time, giving him enough time so that he could send his wife to the hospital as soon as possible.

"Help! A pregnant woman is trapped in here! She's in critical condition and about to give birth! Please... Please quickly open the elevator door and save us. We're in danger. Please..."

Anxiety filled the firefighters outside at the call. One of them quickly called 120 to send for an ambulance. However, after they checked the elevator's situation, they could only trade worried glances.

From what they could see, it was almost impossible to quickly open the elevator door. It would take at least a few hours to make it open!

Despite the grim situation, they could only speak the truth and inform the people inside the elevator the current situation. It wasn't like the firefighters weren't trying their best, but the situation was bad enough that it needed hours to be fixed.

As the grim reality confronted them once again, the husband of the pregnant woman felt like he was falling deeper into hell.

A few hours?

Could his wife hold on until then?

The pregnant woman was so terrified that her eyes even nearly rolled to the back of her head. There was nothing but endless despair!

Right at that moment, intense pain flared up at the pregnant woman's belly. The liquid slowly trickling down her thighs were deafening in the small expanse of the elevator. All of them knew that her amniotic fluid had broken. She couldn't hold on any longer.
