Chapter 10 Being The Chairman

Another thin, middle-aged man laughed in a weird way. "Return the group to its rightful heir? But Julie's surname is Lin, not Xu. If her surname was Xu, then we could consider it as retuning the group to its rightful owner. But her surname is Lin, so she's not the legitimate owner. Besides, now that Mr. Bray owns most of the shares, he should be the chairman. And of course, according to our group's bylaws, the one who owns the most shares shall be the chairman."

Julie whispered to her secretary, and then the secretary took out a document. Julie placed the documents on the conference table and smiled. "Now that you bring this up, my Grandfather left a will before he died. If my mother dies, all of his shares will be passed on to me."

"What?" Bray immediately stood up, his eyes widened. "How could such a will exist? Is it real?"

Still smiling, Julie remarked, "If you don't believe me, you can drop by the notarization office to confirm it."

Standing next to Julie, her secretary said, "According to the recalculation, Manager Julie now owns 45% of the shares."

The white-haired woman smirked, and added, "Combine that with my ten percent shares and it should be equivalent to more than half of the company's shares. By that logic, Julie should be the new chairwoman."

Bray pounded the table. "Now that Julie has married into the Leng family, will our group become a subsidiary of the Leng family in the future? This will surely disappoint my father-in-law!"

Julie stood up as well, staring at Bray. "Do you think that it's right to allow you to be the chairman? It seems that you forgot that you've married again. You wife's name is Tina Tao. Doesn't your current father-in-law sell fish in the market? So why should you take over the company?"

As soon as Julie finished her statement, the people in the conference room burst into laughter, including the ones who were supporting Bray.

Turning red with anger, Bray glared at Julie. "How dare you speak to me like that?"

Julie chuckled. "Why shouldn't I? After all, I haven't done anything bad, and I don't feel guilty. I won't worry about things that people could find out about me."

Staring at Julie, Bray remembered what she told him in the elevator. Taking a step back, he gritted his teeth and said, "In that case... In that case... Then I must yield the position of chairman to Julie."

"Thanks for your support, Mr. Bray," said Julie.

After she finished speaking, Bray continued, "But Julie isn't familiar with the responsibilities of the chairman. Perhaps I can help-"

"No, thanks. I can handle this job on my own," Julie interrupted.

With nothing left to say, Bray reached out his hand to Julie, smiled at her, and said, "I'll leave it to my daughter from now on."

Julie narrowed her eyes and shook his hand. The smile on their faces, and the way they shook hands made them look like ordinary business partners.

After the board meeting was done, Julie's assistant followed her immediately, and said, "Manager Julie-oh, that's right... You're the chairwoman now. You're just awesome."

"This is just the beginning. Pay more attention to Bray. If you think he's doing something strange, inform me at once," Julie whispered.

As soon as she was done talking, her phone started ringing. Seeing that it was from Shelly, Julie answered it and asked, "Shelly, what's the matter?"

"Sister-in-law, please come here and save me. If you don't, I won't be able to survive. Please help me..."

Julie felt nervous. "What's wrong? What happened to you?"

Shelly sobbed. "It's inconvenient to talk about it on the phone right now. Can we meet up instead?"

"I see. Where are you? I'll be right there," said Julie.

In a meek voice, Shelly answered, "I... I've returned to the set. It's in another city."

"I'll book a flight right away," Julie said in a hurry.

Suddenly, Shelly calmed down. After a while, she said, "Sister-in-law, you're so kind to me. It seems that you truly care about me. The moment you heard I'm having trouble, you're ready to rescue me from my plight. Even my own brother won't do that. So I guess what I did for you was worth it."

Julie couldn't understand what Shelly meant. "What's going on with you?"

Frowning, Julie continued, "Don't talk about that right now. Tell me, were you kidnapped? If so, just tell me."

"No, no. It's nothing like that," Shelly answered at once. "Sister-in-law, don't be nervous, I'm fine. I'm just having a hard time, but it's not as grave as you think it is. I just need you to come here."

"Is it inconvenient for you to tell me over the phone?" asked Julie.

After a moment of hesitation, Shelly said, "So... If I don't tell you the reason, will you not come here?"

Shaking her head, Julie replied, "It's not like that. As long as you're having trouble, I'll go there immediately. Tell me the address and I'll be right there."

Breathing a sigh of relief, Shelly smiled. "That's great to hear. You're so kind to me, sister-in-law. I'll send you the hotel's address. Once you're there, just go straight to the room and I'll wait for you there."

"A hotel?" Frowning in confusion, Julie wanted to ask another question, but Shelly had already dropped the call.

She stared at her phone, feeling that something was wrong with Shelly. Julie tried to get in touch with James, but she immediately dropped the idea. If he found out about this, he'd definitely scold Shelly. "I guess I better go there and see how she's doing first," Julie muttered.

After saying that, she said to her assistant, "What's my work schedule for the following two days?"

The assistant opened her notebook and said, "You don't have any urgent matters to deal with at present, except for your meeting tomorrow with Mark, our company's new spokesperson."

Julie hurriedly said, "Reschedule it for now. I'll meet up with him when he has spare time."

The assistant frowned and asked, "But you just became the chairwoman, you can't just..."

Julie sighed and nodded. "I know it doesn't bode well for me to leave right now, but I have something urgent to deal with. You can contact me anytime, and inform me if anything happens. Book me a plane ticket now."

Looking cautiously at Julie, the assistant asked, "Did something bad happen to your sister-in-law?"

"I'm not sure what happened to her, but I hope she's alright," answered Julie.
