Chapter 10 The Mysterious New CEO

"It seems like you're living a good life now. You've found a great sponsor,"

Edward said as he grabbed Emily by the waist. He pushed her into a corner, crowding her in with his big body.

A memory of her announcing to him that she wouldn't beg anyone ever flashed across her mind.

He didn't expect she would find a sponsor so soon.

"What are you doing here?" Emily found her voice. She stared back at him.

"Your father had won the lawsuit. I'm here to offer my congratulations. Can't I do that now?" Edward's lips curled into a mocking smile.

"There's no need to congratulate us. Your relationship with the Mu family hasn't been so close even before. Please let me go, Mr. Situ." Emily's stance didn't look like she was backing down from his malicious stare. Her face was set in a cold and arrogant look. His stare was not shaking her.

Edward, meanwhile, marveled at her beauty. He reached one hand to touch her face.

She was quick to slap his hand away but he was stronger.

The more Emily struggled, the more emotions bubbled inside Edward. There was a feeling inside him that urged him to conquer her. His heart trembled as he lowered his head to hers.

Suddenly, Emily was pushed back against the wall. The next thing she knew, Edward's mouth was on hers. His lips devoured her like a hungry beast.

Her eyes widened in surprise. She felt the overpowering taste of nicotine in his mouth. She couldn't stomach the taste but she couldn't push him away, too.

After what seemed like an eternity, Edward pulled away. Emily gasped for breath. Before her mind returned to its normal state, she faintly heard him say,

"I've been thinking a lot these days. What happened between me and your sister shouldn't have affected you and the whole Mu family. I came here to apologize. But I don't think that's necessary anymore. You're obviously trading your body with practically anyone, like that man earlier. So I thought, what's the point of apologizing for sleeping with you?" Edward felt himself blurt out an explanation.

The kiss caught him by surprise. It was an impulse on his part.

He could still hear her words from the bar a few nights ago ringing in his ears. He really did want to apologize to her. But he didn't expect to see her in an intimate embrace with Ryan. It made him feel very uncomfortable.

He kept telling himself that he was angry only because he had planned to send David Mu to prison but Ryan Ning foiled his plans, and it had nothing to do with this woman.

Edward actually thought about letting David Mu go. But it was his call, not Ryan's.

"What did you say?" Emily placed one hand on her chest, a sharp pain blossomed in her heart.

Did he just imply that she sold her body with others for money or something?

Was he referring Ryan Ning?

How could Edward say this to her face?

"You know what I mean. And it's not a bad deal to trade your body for your father's innocence. I think you don't need my apology anymore. But I'll give you compensation anyways." With a mocking smile, Edward took out a fat stack of money and handed it to her. "This is compensation for all the mental trauma I've caused you. After all, it was your sister who has a grudge against me. You're just a collateral damage. You're not even a biological daughter of the family. For Pete's sake, you're only an adopted daughter."

Emily's head buzzed in understanding. She felt anger burn through her entire being. She slapped away the offered money and said, "Mr. Situ, take your money out of here. My sister had gone too far, yes. And you already had your revenge. We don't owe each other anything anymore."

Bills flew around them. Edward's face remained cold as ice. Suddenly, he stepped forward and grabbed her hand. "Are you really that brave or are you pretending to be cool? Tell me your price, a house, a car, a diamond, or a black card?"

He didn't know if she was only acting arrogant or if she was angling for more.

He believed it was the latter.

Emily had always been a level-headed person. But it didn't mean that she had no temper. "Mr. Situ, if you think this was an appropriate apology, I'd rather you go and take your apology with you. After I found out what had happened between you and my sister, I realized I don't hate you anymore. I realized I only feel sorry for you. You don't have to feel guilty anymore."

Edward roared, "You don't want my money but you will accept the money of another man?!"

"And what about it?"

"Good! So you're admitting to it. It did arouse my interest." Edward tilted her chin to his face with a finger and said, "One day, I will make you yield to me."

"Then let me tell you this; it won't happen!" Emily slapped her hand away.

Edward narrowed his eyes at her. "You'll regret turning me down."

"Not everything in this world can be bought by money, Mr. Situ. Let's remain strangers in the future. Please don't harass me again. Otherwise, I will have to call the security guards. Goodbye!" After saying that, she brushed past him and walked with her head held high into the apartment.

A few days later, Emily was at work.

There was something weird going on.

She couldn't put a finger on it but the atmosphere in the office seemed a little restless.

Her female colleagues buzzed and tittered with each other. They had been gossiping all morning and appeared to be very excited about something. Anna, their group leader, pulled her collar down. Her already plunging V-collar shirt was almost down to her breast bone now. She huffed and puffed before checking herself at the mirror on her table.

"Everyone, the new CEO will visit the company today!" someone announced.

"Is that true?"

"Of course."

"I heard the new CEO placed a three-billion bid for our company. Our company is not worth that much at all!" someone chuckled.

"Ah, that's a lot of money. He's so generous. Do you know who this man is?"

"I don't."

It never occurred to Emily that the owner of their company had changed over the two months that she had been working there.

Just then, Anna looked at her carefully.

Still as elegant as before, Anna spoke to her in a neutral voice, "I didn't expect that you would doll up to impress our new CEO. And it seems like you've prepared well. That's a nice suit you're wearing today. And you even took off your Grandmother glasses."

Emily looked fresh and prettier. The light yellow business suit she was wearing made her look very professional yet elegant.

And it made Anna unhappy.

"Anna, I think you've misunderstood my fashion choices," Emily hurriedly tried to explain.

The real reason she was not wearing her glasses today was she left them at home by accident.

Before Emily could explain more, Anna interrupted her and said acidly, "I really underestimated you. Not long after you came, you swayed the heart of our department manager. And now, you're trying to seduce our new CEO."

Emily bit her lips and said, "Manager Li and I are only colleagues."

"You don't have to deny it." Anna snorted. Every time she saw the innocent look on Emily's face, something hot burned inside her chest. She hated every inch of Emily's beguiling face. "I don't know what you're planning. Even if you have Manager Li as your backer, don't dream of becoming a group leader. Don't pretend to be meek and weak in front of me. It's disgusting."

Emily clenched her fist. "Anna..."

Anna said, "I'm warning you. Don't even think of competing with me on this one!"

"I'm not! I did not do anything."

"Everyone, what are you talking about? This isn't the time to gossip. Get back to work!" the general manager yelled at everyone. Suddenly, the office quieted down. Their colleagues stared at something behind Emily in shock.

Slowly, Emily turned and was shocked as well.

How could it be him?!
