Waaaaaahhhhhhh. Waaaaaahhhhh. Urgh, what a fab way to wake up. "Ben" I said softly turning to face my sleeping husband. "Ben, Harry's crying it's your turn". He rolled over and snored loudly. "BEN!" I repeated much louder this time but still he continued to snore. I glanced over at the night stand. 5.30am fantastic. "You owe me big time Mr" I grumbled as I climbed out of bed. I slid on my fluffy slipper boots and grabbed my dressing gown off the back of the door. "Mummy's coming Harry" I called out softly. Suddenly I heard the padding of little feet coming down the hall. "Mummy! Harry's crying! He woke me up" yawned my adorable little 5 year old Henry, rubbing his eyes. "Aww sorry baby don't worry let's go and see him together shall we?" I took his soft little hand in mine and gently pushed the nursery door open with the other. "Yuck! Mummy it smells in here!" Henry exclaimed holding his nose. As I approached the cot I saw a sight every mother wished did not exist. Poonami! "Oh fantastic!" I muttered under my breath. I scooped up a tearful, very smelly and very dirty Harry and carried him over to the changing mat. "Henry can you go and wake up Daddy and ask him to run Harry a bath please?"
"Can I jump on him to wake him up?" He asked cheekily his eyes wide suddenly completely awake. "You might have to, I've already tried to wake him twice. Maybe pull the curtains open too" I suggested.
"Yay!" He squealed in delight and ran down the hallway, bursting into my bedroom. "DADDY DADDY DADDY" I heard him shout. Suddenly I heard an "Ooomph mate what are you doing?" and realised he had been successful. I carefully peeled off Harry's dirty clothes and started to clean him down with wet wipes. As i
I wrapped him up in a soft, fluffy towel Ben appearred in the doorway, his blonde hair dishevelled from sleep and his eyes still not quite fully open. "Oh dear babe. Poonami? Glad it was your turn" he chuckled. I picked up Harry and handed him over. "Actually," I state frowning "it was supposed to be your turn but you didn't get up. There's a clean outfit over there and I've wet wiped him but he needs a bath so your turn" and before he could say anything I whipped the dirty sheets off the bed and headed out of the room. "I'm gonna get these in the wash and get started on breakfast" I informed him, heading down the stairs.
Henry was sat at the breakfast bar scribbling away on a piece of paper. "What you drawing there bud?" I asked, grabbing a bowl and pouring out some cereal for him. He picked up the piece of paper and proudly thrust it into my face then with a grin he told me "It's you and Harry mum - he's covered in poo and you have poo all over your hands and I put a peg on your nose for you too mummy look its blue your favourite" he's so proud of himself that all I could do was laugh and say "how amusing. That's definetly not going on the fridge. Eat your breakfast".
I headed over to the coffee machine when the doorbell chimes and makes me jump. Who on earth is that at this time? I headed to the door and opened it up to find Cleo stretching on the doorstep. She was wearing a pink leopard print tracksuit complete with matching trainers and headband. She looked at me puzzled. "Why aren't you ready? Did you forget? We're going for a run this morning. " I had completely forgotten. "Come in hun I'll go get changed now. BEN?" I shouted. I turned to see him halfway down the stairs with a clean and smiley Harry. "No need to shout love I'm right here. Oh hi Cleo bit early ain't it?"
"We're going for a run Ben your on kidwatch" she told him "go change hun!".
"Well there's no arguing with you Cleo" laughed Ben. I squeezed past him and trudged up the stairs. I pulled out a pair of navy trackies and a sky blue tshirt, threw them on and pulled my messy bed hair into a bun then headed back down the stairs. "Won't be long love" I said as I headed out the door. As the door closed, I turned to Cleo and said "what a morning!"
"Tell me all about it - if you can keep up that is!" Cleo tauntsed as she turned and started to pick up speed. "Hey wait for me!" I called as I took off after her. I finally caught up with her at the stile. "Smile!" She held up her phone to snap a selfie. "We should send it to Tia it will give us an excuse to ask about Lovebomb" she suggested as she jumped over the stile. I followed her over, not quite as daintily as she had done it. "Last one to the bridge buys the juices" she chuckled, knowing it would be me.
"Not fair! You always win!" I moaned chasing after her.
When we got to the bridge we headed into The Boathouse juice bar.
"Two berry boosters please - she's paying" Cleo pointed cheekily at me. "So what happened this morning?
We sat down to drink our juices and I told her all about this morning - Ben's laziness, the poonami, Harry's drawing....
"The usual then" she laughed. "I was on the phone to Kyle until the early hours. He's taking me out for lunch today. We're going to the Java Lounge. He's going to be on nights for the next week so it's our last chance for a while. I can't believe it's only our third date - it feels like I've known him forever!" She gushed.
"I'm so happy for you Cleo" I truly meant it. She deserves to be happy. "We better head back so I can rescue Ben" I rolled my eyes. We stood up and had a quick stretch before starting the walk back to my house.
