Chapter 5 Five

Channel.

I blinked multiple times when I heard him say that.

"Uuh," I finally found my lost tongue.

"I hate repeating words. You heard me clearly earlier; don't act like a dimwit." He growled, eyeing me.

Gosh!! I was totally taken aback.

Who the hell was this disrespectful, glittering, annoying fellow who had the utmost confidence to come talk to me about marriage?

"Are you in..."

With a hand raised in the air to shut me up, he said, "Get married to me in exchange for your freedom from Rowan Reynolds. I'll help settle your one hundred million debt while you help me fill up the position of a wife for two years." He spoke hurriedly, voice hard and commanding.

As he spoke, his eyes never left my face, and he kept on tapping his right foot on the grass, giving a signal to whomever it was that his patience was running out because he dared not to give me that signal because I didn't ask him to come here.

I don't even know him!

"Who the hell are you?"

"Your new husband. Sign these contract documents and let's leave here." He commanded, his words conveyed with impatience while throwing some documents and a pen at me.

I lost it-my patience and reasoning. I was all alone in the park going through a traumatizing phase before this insane man in a flashy outfit came to interrupt my thoughts and began talking nonsense about marriage.

"Are you fine? Did you just get released from a mental home? Which sane man in his right senses will ask a woman he doesn't know to get married to him and not even by pleading but by outrightly commanding her?" I snapped at him, rushing up to my feet.

"Plead?" He scoffed, his eyes squeezing in irritation. "I am giving you an opportunity to get your freedom, and you want me to plead? If you aren't interested in getting it, I'll just leave you to your penury and bounds and get another person who wouldn't want me to beg before they follow my bidding." He said, his voice low and thick with scorn.

I stared at him in dumbfoundness. His boldness and manner of talking were out of this world.

"Who are you?" I whispered.

"Calvin Blackwood, a man in need of a wife." He answered sharply while pointing at the documents on the grass.

"If you are not interested in getting married to..."

"I'll marry you." I blurted out, digging my hands into my black, scattered hair in confusion.

I'll get married to him and get my freedom. There was no time to worry about who this Calvin was and why he wanted me to get married to him. I needed to save myself from Rowan's hold before I lost my mind.

I had nothing to lose now. I am divorced; I can do whatever thing I like with my life without caring about Rowan again. I knew I was taking a big risk by agreeing to marry a total stranger, but I was in the least concerned about what could happen in the future.

"I'll survive." I whispered to myself while trying to push back fears and doubts. And if I don't survive, nothing big other than death is going to happen to me, and that is no problem. I told myself, before pushing back the helpless, self-pitiful tears that were about to drop from my eyes.

Giving me a side glance but not surprised at my sudden agreement, Calvin pointed at the papers, and without hesitating, I picked them up, and without reading the clauses written in them, I signed them.

"It's done. We are married. I am now Channel Blackwood. When are you settling my debt?" I asked immediately. There was no time to waste.

His lips curled up in a smirk, but he let no words out. Stretching his hands to me, he gave me a black card. "It has no limit. Use it in paying your debt and taking care of yourself till the two years elapse." Saying this, he turned to the front and began walking away. "Follow me. There's a file in my car. You have only two hours to learn the replies already written for you, which are required for you to say when you meet my father."

While in my new husband's white Rolls-Royce, struggling to learn a few absurd lines, my heart thumped crazily.

I had earlier been bold and had accepted the contract marriage, but while reading things that I was not familiar with and seeing the question I was likely to be asked, I felt nervous and hot.

Who was this man? Why was he hurriedly in need of a wife, and among all the ladies in New York City, why was I the one he chose?

Did Rowan send him?

Wait! Was he an accomplice of Rowan?

Thinking about it, I felt my body shudder in rage and my hands fold into fists. "Why did you get married to a woman you don't know? Did Rowan send you?"

With a quick piercing gaze, Calvin replied through gritted teeth. "I married you because I need you. I have no business with your ex-husband."

"How do you know about me?"

"Check the internet and find out all you need to know about yourself." He answered curtly.

"Rachel!" I bit my lip in anger. This was her handiwork. She had announced the fake news of my infidelity to her brother and also our divorce.

Thinking about them, my anger worsened, but I put a hold to it when I saw Calvin driving into an airport.

"An airport? Where are we going?"

"To the country I came from. I don't have the intention of living in the same city as your ex-husband. You are starting a new life and getting a new identity." He answered with a flat tone, unfastening his seatbelt and walking out of the car down to an already waiting private jet.

"Wow!" was the only word I could utter. I got married suddenly, and I am already leaving the country without Rowan's knowledge.

My life is gradually becoming interesting because I was already thinking about what Rowan will do when he can no longer find me to pay his stupid one hundred million dollar compensation fee, which I have already made up my mind not to pay him.
