Chapter 2

Samuel straightened up and looked at the bodyguard behind him. "Do it. Ensure Mrs. Willis is out of danger within ten minutes."

"Yes, sir." The bodyguard immediately picked up the phone to make a call.

Ten minutes later, the antidote serum was delivered to the hospital and injected into Mary. The doctor told me that she was saved.

I felt relieved. Mary was going to be fine...

Samuel walked up to me, and his shadow enveloped me entirely. His emotionless, deep voice was chilling. "Elisa Willis, chief engineer of the Rossi Group. I appreciate your talent. From now on, you are mine."

I implored him. "Mr. Walker, I will fulfill my promise. Please give me a little time. I have some things to deal with."

He stared at me for a few seconds, and his penetrating gaze hinted at danger. "I'll give you one week. Don't even consider fleeing."

I said, "I won't."

At that moment, I had only one thought in my mind-cut ties with Timothy.

Samuel and his bodyguard left.

My phone pinged with a notification from Instagram-Jennifer had posted an update.

In the photo, she was wearing a pink bikini and leaning against Timothy. The caption read, "Thank you for your company. I'm feeling much better."

A piercing pain shot through my heart.

I didn't know how I made my way back home.

Timothy and I had lived in that apartment for five years, and it was filled with traces of our past happiness.

The wedding photo on the living room wall showed us smiling with pure joy. But it was like a cruel joke played by fate at that moment.

I took the wedding photo down and hurled it to the floor. Glass shards flew in all directions.

I stepped on the shards and shredded the photo into bits before flushing them down the toilet.

Then, I looked at the ring around my finger.

The memory of our wedding day flashed before me. Timothy, backlit, got down on one knee and put the ring around my finger. He said, "Elisa, you're my angel. With you, I have the whole world."

What a joke!

I glanced at the new Instagram post. It was Timothy's update this time. The photo showed him and Jennifer kissing on a beach with the ocean behind them. The caption read, "With you, I am in paradise anywhere."

My bitter laughter echoed in the bathroom.

Timothy had thrown away his entire world.

He had lied to me.

I yanked off the ring. Its edges cut my finger, and blood dripped onto the bathroom tile. But I felt no pain.

I hurled the ring into the toilet and then watched it swirl away with the water alongside the wedding photo bits.

We had dated for seven years and been married for five years. But our relationship was erased in mere moments.

In that moment, all my regret, sadness, and anger vanished. I only felt relieved and free.

Timothy's betrayal made him too tainted. I didn't want him anymore.

I took out my phone and messaged my lawyer. "Mr. Kim Norris, kindly expedite a divorce agreement for me. I want to divorce Timothy Rossi."

After sending the message, I opened the closet and began packing my clothes into a suitcase.

While I was busy, my phone suddenly rang. It was Timothy calling.

I pressed decline.

A few seconds later, a message from Timothy popped up. His words seethed with barely suppressed anger. "Elisa, what the hell are you doing? Kim just called me and told me that you want a divorce. Are you crazy?"
