But Cassie dared to claim that Jordy's success was all thanks to her?
The thought made Lucinda want to laugh.
Lucinda's taunt stirred something in Jordy. Cassie was acting completely out of character today. Could she be aiming to split the assets with him for the divorce?
He would not let that happen!
He saw himself as the one who had built the Sutton Group from nothing. Cassie, in his eyes, had been nothing more than a housewife.
No way would he let her walk away with anything substantial.
Even so, he needed to keep up appearances since Lucinda was still here, so he tried to soften his tone when he turned to Cassie.
"Cassie, let's be reasonable. We have been married for some time, and I admit you did look after my mother when she needed it. When we finalize our divorce, I'll give you a house in the suburbs and hand you a hundred thousand in cash. That should be enough for you to live on your own. What do you say-"
But before Jordy could finish speaking, Cassie's hand flew across his face with every ounce of strength she had left.
The force of it sent him stumbling backward, his balance slipping as he nearly collapsed onto the sofa.
"Have you lost your mind, Cassie? You actually hit me? Did you forget I was the one who gave you such a good life?" Jordy shouted, his ears ringing, his cheek already turning red and swollen.
"Get out!" Cassie yelled, her voice cracking as everything she had held in finally broke free. She jabbed a finger toward the door, shaking with fury.
"Get out? Have you gone crazy? This is my house. You don't get to order me around. Who do you think you are?" Jordy retorted, the sting of humiliation wiping away any attempt at restraint.
Lucinda rushed to his side, her eyes widening at the sight of his swollen cheek. "Jordy, look at you. How dare she hit you? That woman really doesn't know her place," she said.
She turned to glare at Cassie. "You pathetic bitch! You hit him, and now, you think you can throw us out? Keep this up, and we'll call the police on you and kick you out!"
Cassie let out a cold laugh. She raised the kitchen knife in her hand and aimed it straight at Jordy. "Jordy, you built everything with my support. Without me, where would you even be now? I am the reason you are successful now. And after all that, you dare stand here and talk like I'm nothing? Do you really think I'm someone you can step on easily?"
Her face had turned to ice. She seized Jordy by the collar, her voice lashing out with every word. Lucinda could only stand there, stunned into silence by the intensity in her eyes.
When Cassie finished speaking, she lifted the knife and brought it down in a sharp arc, aiming straight for Jordy.
"Ahhh!"
A shriek burst from Lucinda, terror written all over her face.
The sound of steel slicing through fabric filled the air, and Jordy's expensive suit was soon in ruins.
Once a symbol of his status, it now hung from him in ribbons.
Cassie then drove the knife into the wooden sofa behind Jordy, the blade biting deep into the wood with a solid, final thud. Jordy could barely catch his breath before her voice cut through the room.
"We're done, Jordy. I'll be back to gather my things once the divorce is official."
Cassie fixed Lucinda with a stare that held nothing but truth. "Since he's willing to betray me for you today, you'd better be careful. He'll leave you just as easily when he finds someone better than you."
Once, she had ignored all of Jordy's faults because he had saved her life before. But now, seeing his true colors, she realized that leaving him wasn't a bad thing at all.
Cassie tore the apron from her waist and tossed it aside. Without even glancing back or bothering to change, she strode out of the house, ready to leave it all behind.
