Chapter 1

Eight years into Lynda Bennett's pursuit of Charles Watson, Charles got drunk and slept with Lynda.

Only when she became pregnant did he reluctantly agree to marry her.

Lynda thought she had finally touched his heart, but on their wedding day, her mother was tragically hit and killed by Charles' niece, Eleanor Watson.

The next day, Charles threatened her with her father's life to make her drop the charges.

It was then that she realized that the person Charles truly loved was always Eleanor.

Eleanor beat her so badly that she ended up in the hospital, and Charles forced Lynda to sign a reconciliation agreement; Eleanor pulled her father's oxygen tube, and Charles forced her to kneel and apologize.

If she didn't comply, Charles would threaten with the divorce.

He believed that Lynda wouldn't leave him because she was pregnant.

But he was wrong.

Lynda not only left but took their daughter and married his arch-enemy.

Charles was beside himself with regret, the once cool and dignified man now humbly kneeling, "Lynda, please just look at me one more time, I'm willing to die to atone."

Lynda turned away with their daughter, without a backward glance. "Then go ahead and die."

...

After eight years of pursuing and making countless attempts to seduce him, Lynda finally won over Charles-that unreachable ideal who had seemed forever out of reach.

After getting drunk, Charles went wild, his sexual desire raging uncontrollably as he pinned Lynda down and engaged in wild sex, each time teetering on the edge of losing control.

Lynda's waist was almost broken; she hadn't expected a man who had been abstinent for so long to be so vigorous on the bed.

After that, she was pregnant, and Charles married her.

Everyone said that Lynda, who always flattered Charles and now forced the marriage with her pregnancy, must be overjoyed.

No one knew that on the third day after the wedding, Lynda went alone to the law firm to print a divorce agreement.

The staff looked at her marriage certificate and then asked in surprise, "Mrs. Watson, the records show you married Mr. Watson just three days ago, are you sure you want a divorce?"

Lynda looked at the brand-new marriage certificate, her eyes reddening.

The staff, thinking she was reluctant, kindly advised, "It's normal for couples to argue, don't be impulsive..."

Lynda interrupted, "I'm sure I want a divorce!"

As she walked out with the signed divorce agreement, the sunlight outside was blinding, so bright it made Lynda want to cry.

Three days earlier, on her wedding day with Charles, the sunlight had been just as piercing, stabbing straight into Lynda's heart.

That day, her mother had been hit and killed by a car.

The police had sent a video from the surveillance, showing her mother being dragged mercilessly for miles, leaving a trail of blood, with even her bones exposed.

It was clearly intentional murder.

Seeing her mother's tragic death, Lynda collapsed, fainting on the spot.

Luckily, Charles caught her, preventing her from falling.

Charles held her trembling body in his arms, "Lynda, I'll find the best lawyer for you, I'll help you get justice-and that driver will pay for what they did, blood for blood."

His embrace was warm, and it was the first time he had held her willingly.

However, when Charles found out the driver was his niece Eleanor, though he had just promised to stand by Lynda, he immediately took the opposite side.

"Lynda, Eleanor is young and didn't know any better, making mistakes is normal, just let it go, your mother is already gone, what's done is done, it's all in the past." he said.

He asked her to let it go?

Lynda looked at the man she had loved for eight years in disbelief.

It was her mother's life, Charles wanted to dismiss it with a casual "let it go."

Charles said it was all in the past, but Lynda was determined to hold Eleanor accountable.

The day after the wedding, Lynda approached a lawyer to draft a lawsuit, intending to charge Eleanor with intentional murder.

Unexpectedly, Charles abandoned an one-billion-dollar project to rush home and throw a blank check in Lynda's face. "Eleanor is still young, prison would ruin her life, I'll pay her debts, I'll compensate, name your price, ten million, a hundred million, a billion, ten billion..."

As he increased the offer, Lynda's heart grew colder, as if she was falling into an icy abyss.

In Charles's mind, her mother's life was worth nothing more than a string of numbers.

Lynda felt a tightness in her chest, her breath nearly stopping.

Sensing Lynda's emotions, the baby inside her turned restlessly, making her break out in a cold sweat.

As Charles's offer reached the limit of the company's liquid assets, seeing Lynda's silence, he took it upon himself to decide, "Ten billion, drop the charges."

Finally, Lynda couldn't hold back and shouted at him, "Charles! That was my mom! The woman who gave birth to and raised me! She's not something you can measure in money!"

"I will never drop the charges!" She stubbornly glared at Eleanor, clenching her jaw in determination, "I will make Eleanor pay for this!"

Charles suddenly grabbed Lynda's wrist, his hand, usually steady, was trembling, "Lynda, if you dare to harm Eleanor, I won't let you off!"

His expression was colder than ice, yet his eyes betrayed his concern.

He was worried about Eleanor.

The grip on her skin was painfully tight, as if thousands of needles were piercing her body, causing Lynda to nearly suffocate.

Since knowing Charles, this was the first time Lynda had seen him lose control like this.

It turned out he could let his emotions show because of someone.

It turned out he could be moved by another person's joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness.

It turned out he could care for someone, always thinking of her well-being.

Lynda felt bitterness in her heart.

But that person was never her; it was Eleanor.

At that moment, she realized Charles deeply loved his young niece, Eleanor.

After pursuing him for eight years, Lynda never knew...

Charles rejected her not because he was cold and aloof, but because his heart belonged to someone else.

Afraid that Lynda might impulsively cause trouble for Eleanor, Charles ordered that the pregnant Lynda be locked in the basement, without giving her a drop of water.

Lynda cried all night, until she could no longer shed tears.

She lay in agony on the cold, filthy concrete floor, reflecting on the past eight years.

If she had known Charles had someone he liked, if Charles had mentioned even one word to her, Lynda would never have pursued him relentlessly for eight years, nor would she have married him.

Lynda couldn't understand why Charles didn't say anything.

Just like she couldn't understand why she fell in love with Charles.

Eight years ago, when Charles spoke as a representative at Asmeau University's welcome event, the moment he took the stage, Lynda noticed him.

He was ridiculously handsome.

Standing at 6'2", with sharp brows and bright eyes, a high nose bridge, and a suit tailored to perfection, emphasizing his broad shoulders and slim waist, he was as cool as ice.

Lynda was known as a charming socialite; since fourteen, she had countless admirers trailing behind her.

Yet, despite considering herself experienced with men, Lynda was intrigued by Charles, who was colder than ice. It greatly sparked her curiosity.

After the event, Lynda approached him, wanting to add him on WhatsApp, only to be rejected.

Charles insisted his focus was solely on academics, leaving no space for romance.

Lynda didn't believe him.

Everyone had emotions and desires; what was he pretending to be so pure and unattached for?

No one had ever resisted her charms; Lynda, undeterred by setbacks, started pursuing him.

She pretended to sprain her ankle and fall, but Charles simply lifted her by the back of her collar without touching her skin.

She deliberately bent down to tie her shoelaces in front of him, revealing the smooth skin of her chest, but he handed her a coat without glancing, "Put it on."

Despite all her attempts to entice him, Charles hadn't even smiled at her.

Perhaps Charles really was made of ice.

A month later, she gave up.

She thought she would never see Charles again, but unexpectedly, he sought her out.

The Bennett family's financial chain suddenly broke, leading to bankruptcy and their expulsion from the elite circles.

Lynda's former suitors quickly changed their faces, offering to keep her. To help her family, she chose the one who bid the highest.

In a hotel, she was about to surrender her virginity in despair when Charles suddenly burst in, kicking away the man looming over her.

Seeing Charles at that moment, all of Lynda's grievances erupted, and she hugged him tightly, sobbing uncontrollably, "Charles, if only you were my boyfriend, they wouldn't dare bully me!"

Lynda was merely venting her emotions, but unexpectedly, Charles agreed. "Okay."

That single word made Lynda's heart race, and she fell completely for him.

During their eight-year relationship, Charles remained cold as ever, yet she was unwavering in her devotion.

For him, she changed her habits, toning down her vibrant personality, smoothing out her edges to be a dutiful wife, hoping to melt the coldness in his heart.

However, what awaited her was her mother's tragic death and a spiral into despair.

Returning home from the law firm, Lynda, with a stoic expression, tossed their marriage certificate into the flames.

Watching the thing she had dreamed of for eight years burn to ashes, she chuckled bitterly.

She no longer wanted to love Charles, nor could she afford to.

Immediately, she called someone she hadn't contacted in eight years, Terrance Campbell, a globally acclaimed lawyer.

Since his debut, none of the cases he handled had ever lost.

Most importantly, he was Charles's arch-enemy.

Unexpectedly, he answered instantly, leaving Lynda momentarily stunned. She adjusted her voice and spoke, "Mr. Campbell, are you willing to take on a case that could completely destroy Charles' reputation?"
