"You...how could you?" Scilla stuttered, unable to believe the pictures that rested in within his grasp. Silence had enveloped the air, the room turning chilly by a few degrees.
"Scilla, I...I can explain, it is not what it seems..."
SLAP!
The sound reverberated throughout the room as the mother queen's palm had landed harshly on Amy's face.
Amy stared, her brows twitching as tears pooled her eyes.
"Shut up, you shameless woman! I knew all along that you would be a disgrace to this family. Right from the start I knew the moon goddess had made some mistake granting you as my son's mate. Were you not satisfied with being the next queen you had to open your legs to another man?"
"Perhaps you are just so needy, such a loose woman." The mother queen spat, her face contouring in disgust and Amy's eyes moved resting onto Scilla who had his face turned away from her. She felt a pang in her heart as she witnessed him unable to look at her like she was a disease.
"What did I expect?" Scilla's voice came, and Amy's ears perked up in anticipation. Perhaps he was going to give her a chance to prove she is innocent of the accusation.
"How did I expect you to be different just because you were my mate?" Scilla asked no one in particular and Amy's heart sunk.
"Scilla..."
"I had made a big mistake believing you'd be different. But then again, you're just an orphan, a woman who had no parents to teach her some morals." Scilla said and Amy's jaw tightened. He had brought up her parents. Her heart clenched painfully beneath her chest, her heartbreak turning into anger. Her eyes flickered between brown and gold and soon her eyes completely glowed bright gold.
Scilla's eyes widened as he watched the tiny spikes that had launched themselves at him. He tried to dodge, but his attempts had failed as a spike lodged itself in his arm.
"What are you doing?!" The mother queen yelled at Amy, her once disgusted expression morphing into shock as she stared at the latter.
A deafening silence enveloped the room once more as the pack members stared at the scene in shock.
They had come to attend the banquet that had been prepared by the alpha as he had found his mate, but they had not expected things to take a drastic turn.
"How could you be my son's mate, you're a monster!" The mother queen yelled as eyes twitched, trying to control the seething anger that brewed in her heart.
"Mother." Scilla's voice broke out, his eyes turning to look at his mother in silent plea for her to keep mute.
His eyes moved again, eventually resting onto Amy where he stared at her, his eyes flickering with so many emotions. Emotions she could not fathom.
"On this day, I, Scilla Manara rejects Amethyst Krano as my mate." His voice reverberated throughout the entire hall, everyone staring in shock at what had unfold before them.
Amy stared at Scilla, her throat bulbing up and down as she swallowed, fighting the urge to cry. She blinked back the tears that had pooled her eyes before staring up at him.
"I accept your rejection, Alpha." Her voice came as she bowed her head, her heart clenching painfully beneath her chest.
As the hall emptied, Amy stared at nowhere in particular, her thoughts wandering the events that had unfold earlier. She had no explanation for the pictures whatsoever, she believed she had been framed.
"Amy!" A feminine voice called out, cutting through the chains of thoughts that had clouded her mind, and she turned to meet the worried gaze of a younger woman who walked towards her in hurried steps. She looked to be at least eighteen years of age.
"Nayla had informed me about what happened." She said, her worried expression directed at Amy.
"I'm okay, Zen." Amy assured, unbeknownst to her that her eyes had told her true feeling...hurt.
"Why don't we retire for the night?" Zenith stated, her heart aching for her sister. She had heard from Nayla how the banquet had ended. She had hoped for her sister to be okay, but now as she stared at Amy, she realized how hard it had hit her. She had heard from ma laura how a mate's rejection was the most painful, and she pitied her sister.
The two retired to the room, their ears picking some unpleasant words about Amy from the maids who had passed by.
That night Amy had cried her heart out before finally drifting off to the dreamland.
...
The morning came, bringing it with a new beginning. Back in Scilla's chamber he sat, the sun casting a glow on his naked torso.
He twirled the glass in his hand, his eyes moving to rest on the liquid inside it as if amused by it's appearance, and yet his thoughts were elsewhere.
Taking a sip from the glass, his thoughts wandered as he felt the anger that surged through him. He had truly loved Amy, and was ready to give her his all but in the end she had betrayed him.
Clutching the glass tightly in his hand, it had cracked, eventually bursting to allow the liquid spill all over.
"Alpha!" a guard had rushed in as he heard the sound of the glass breaking only to be met with the chilly aura that enveloped the room.
"Get a maid to clean the place up." He said, coldness evident in his voice, and the guard bowed, leaving.
His gaze traveled to the red liquid that had spilled on the black marble floor. He had not expected the glass to break.
Getting dressed, he exited his chamber, heading to the dining hall where the mother queen had already commenced her meal.
"Scilla." She called out once he stepped into the room, but he had not glanced at her direction.
Taking a seat at the head of the table, he had been served raw oxen's meat where his knife dug into it.
The two ate in silence, Scilla barely finishing his food as he had no appetite.
His gaze traveled to where Amy would have been seated, and he felt more angry at how he still yearned for her.
"Alpha!" A guard had barged into the room, his expression grave.
"Speak!"
"Lady Amy and Lady Zenith are missing from the mansion."
