Chapter One
The Shattering Of Trust
"Good morning my love" I rushed to my Bradley's side with a smile as soon as I saw that he had woken up and voluntary wrapped my hands around his neck.
Today was a very special day for us, it was our second anniversary as husband and wife and I was so excited for the surprise party I would be throwing us tonight.
I knew Bradley has been so busy with work and must have forgotten so I took it upon myself to make sure today was amazing for the both of us.
"Get off of me" I thought I heard him say but I did not believe it
"What?" I asked again for clarity, leaning closer to his muscular body and enjoying the warmth of it.
"Get off!" Bradley shouted and threw me off of him with such a force that I almost fell out of the bed
I blinked twice unable to understand what had just happened. What had I done wrong for my husband to treat me in such a way on our second anniversary as a married couple?
I stared at him for a while, still contemplating what must be going through his mind or if this man was not my husband but an impostor.
He had a nicely cut black hair and beautiful blue eyes that made him look almost feminine. His hard jawline and well chiseled face however always showed the handsome man in him.
So far, there was nothing strange about his appearance. The man on the bed with me was Bradley, a popular business tycoon in New York and my husband. So why was he behaving like this?
It took a while for me to notice that he was staring at me too, his gaze was cold and stern. I cleared my throat but before I could say anything, my husband got off the bed.
I watched as Bradley left our bedroom without a single word and headed for the showers without any explanation or a glance back at me.
I did not know when my heart started beating with so much fear and pain and...
"Claudia" I whispered as I suddenly remembered my best friend. She was always supportive of my marriage and I knew she would help me right now.
The phone began to ring and my heart beat faster every second that she did not answer the call.
"Hello" Claudia's voice rang out from the other end and I was a little relieved.
"Hello Claudia" I began fast, struggling to keep my trembling tone in check
"Rebecca, what's wrong?" Claudia asked, concern in her voice "You sound worried"
"It's Brad" my voice broke as I recalled how he had thrown me out of his arms just a couple of minutes ago. My body shook at the memory.
"Yes what about him?" Claudia asked casually.
"He is acting strange" I squealed as I fought back against the tears that wear pressing at my eyelids.
"How do you mean?" Claudia asked, this time with more interest than ever before.
"Today is our wedding anniversary and when I went to hug him good morning he... he..." my voice broke off again unable to say the words.
"What did he do?" Claudia's voice grew more enthusiastic. I knew the suspense was killing her so I had to tell her everything
"He pushed me away from him" I finally blurted as the tears began to pour down my cheeks. It felt more painful, saying it out loud.
I expected Claudia to scream, to gasp, to get angry or sympathize with me but she fell completely silent. I could hear nothing from the other end".
"Claudia " I called out to my best friend in a low voice "I think there is another woman. Brad is having an affair"
Saying that hurt even more than admitting the first and I had to put my hand on my heart to steady myself but still yet, my friend said nothing.
"Hello, are you there?" I asked hoping to hear her voice. I was so distraught, all I wanted wanted was for somebody to calm me down and tell me it was going to be okay.
I could have been overreacting and I wanted Claudia to tell me that, to soothe my worries, to make me smile but again there was no word from my friend.
"Claudia" I cried out in frustration. Now was not the time for there to be terrible reception. Of all the times in the world, something like that should not happen now.
The next thing I knew was that the line was disconnected, leaving me to my fears and doubts.
I stared at the large master bedroom that had become mine and Brad's sleeping quarters for the past two years. I loved this place, I loved him and I knew he loved me too so what had gone wrong?
I was so lost in thought that I had not noticed when my husband had walked right back to our room and was busy getting dressed. When I finally caught sight of him, I was shocked.
Bradley was going about his normal business as if today was not our second wedding anniversary or he had not pushed me just a couple of minutes ago.
He had already put on his office shirt and trousers and was about to wear his suit when I took hold of his arm again.
"Let go of me" he spat with venom in his voice.
What's going on?" I asked as I took a cautious step away from him
"Isn't it obvious?" he asked, his eyes cold and void of any love "I want a divorce!"
"Divor-" before I could complete my statement, Brad had retrieved a set of documents from his briefcase and shoved them in my hands
"Sign it now!" he growled at me and I quickly opened the documents to see what was inside.
"These are divorce papers" I announced as I read the contents of what I had in my hands.
When I saw his own signature already on them, my breathing stopped.
