Seraphina POV
The Pack Infirmary smelled of sterile bleach and the sweet, milky scent of my newborn twins. I was exhausted, my body trembling from the grueling hours of labor, but my heart was overflowing. I had just given Kaelen, my fated mate and the powerful Alpha of the Black Moon Pack, two beautiful pups.
The heavy door swung open. Instead of the warm, loving mate I expected to rush to my side, Kaelen strode in, his aura suffocatingly cold. The scent of winter pine and ozone-usually my ultimate comfort-now felt like a looming, destructive storm. He didn't even glance at the double crib where our babies slept.
"Kaelen?" I whispered, my voice hoarse.
He stopped at the foot of my bed, his obsidian eyes devoid of any emotion. His Alpha aura pressed down on me, an invisible weight pinning my exhausted body to the mattress.
"I, Kaelen Steele," his voice rang out, a cruel, absolute command that left no room for mercy, "reject you, Seraphina Rhodes, as my mate."
The words were a silver blade slicing straight through my soul. A raw scream tore from my throat as an agonizing, burning pain erupted in my chest, infinitely worse than the agony of childbirth. Deep within me, my inner wolf, Selene, howled in pure, unadulterated agony as the sacred bond woven by the Moon Goddess was violently ripped apart.
"Why?" I gasped, clutching my chest, tears streaming down my face.
Kaelen leaned in, his face a mask of pure disgust. "You reek of another Alpha," he snarled, his voice a lethal whisper. "The doctors confirmed the pups carry my bloodline, which only proves how deceitful you are. If it weren't for them, I would tear you and your lover apart right now."
"No! I haven't-"
Before I could finish, Vanessa, Kaelen's sister, stepped out from the shadows of the room. A malicious smirk twisted her lips as she threw a stack of photographs onto my lap. "Save your lies," she spat.
I stared at the glossy paper through blurred vision. It was me, sitting in a cafe with a tall, broad-shouldered man. *Dominic.* But the angle made it look sickeningly intimate.
Kaelen's gaze fell on the photos. A murderous roar vibrated in his chest-his inner wolf, Draegan, demanding blood. "You disgusting Omega slut," Kaelen spat.
The sheer force of his hatred, combined with the bleeding wound of our severed bond, was too much. My lungs forgot how to work. The sterile white room spun violently, and darkness dragged me under.
I don't know how long I was out. When I opened my eyes, the crushing weight of reality slammed back into me. I scrambled up, ignoring the screaming pain in my lower body, and grabbed Kaelen's sleeve. "Please, Kaelen, you have to listen to me-"
He shoved me away with brutal force. A piece of paper fluttered down onto the bed. A human legal document. Relinquishment of parental rights.
"Sign it," he commanded.
My trembling hand was forced to hold a pen. As my tears stained the ink, the door opened again. Kaelen's mother walked in, her face an unreadable mask of stone. She bypassed me entirely, reaching into the crib. She lifted my son, my beautiful baby boy, Liam.
"No! Please, don't take him!" I sobbed, trying to crawl toward her, but Kaelen blocked my path.
"Liam is the heir to the Steele family," Kaelen declared coldly, turning his back on me. "He will be raised by pure blood. The girl," he gestured dismissively toward the remaining bundle in the crib, "is a disgrace, just like her unfaithful, weak mother. Take her and get out of my territory."
The door clicked shut, sealing my fate. I was left alone in the freezing infirmary, clutching my crying daughter, Ava, to my chest. He had taken my mate, my pack, and half of my soul.
