About

I discovered she had the ability to read minds and found out that her fiancé, Lachlan, was actually a sensitive and emotional man who called himself the supporting male character in a book. He was learning to embody the aloof persona of an archetype of a powerful business tycoon under the system's guidance, all to compete with the male lead, Vernon, for I, the female lead. I was drawn to this contrast, yet worried that breaking character might cause Lachlan trouble. So, she watched him maintain his aloof persona without exposing him. Unexpectedly, at Vernon and the second female lead's engagement party, the second female lead became attracted to Lachlan's aloof demeanor. To deter her, Lachlan intentionally revealed his true self. Once the second female lead shifted her focus to me, Lachlan stopped pretending altogether and stuck close to her, asserting his protective claim. Lachlan was fixated on the storyline where he lost the female lead. And once I understood his thoughts, I seized the chance to confess my feelings. However, my magical ability to read minds suddenly vanished, and with his task complete, Lachlan became a pawn of the system and disappeared. Exhausted, I sought ways to bring him back and, while discussing strategies with the second female lead, the real Lachlan appeared, filled with jealousy!

Chapter 1

The day before my wedding, I, Camille Brewer, discovered I could read minds.

The one whose thoughts I could read was my arranged marriage partner, Lachlan Clayton, cold and aloof with a perpetually impassive face.

I heard Lachlan say in his heart, "Camille's voice is so gentle, I just want to hug her and give her a kiss. My persona is about to collapse!"

He sobbed inwardly, "She really still loves that scummy male lead. I'm just the second male lead.

System, I've been pretending for so long. Why doesn't Camille like me?"

Was it possible that what I liked was the devoted and cuddly type after all...?

The night before the wedding, Lachlan suddenly called and said there was an issue with the guest list.

"Wasn't the list drafted by both families? What's the problem?" I asked, holding back my irritation.

There was no avoiding family alliances, and Lachlan always looked so annoyed, as if dissatisfied with me as his bride-to-be.

Who wouldn't be annoyed in this situation?

It was two in the morning, and instead of sleeping, he called to complain about the guest list.

Clearly, the real problem was in his head.

A strange silence came from the other end.

Then came a soft snicker. "Camille's voice is so gentle, I just want to hug her and give her a kiss. My persona is about to collapse!"

I shook my head, feeling like my ears had been grossed out.

"What did you say?" I asked in confusion.

But Lachlan replied in all seriousness. "I said, can we remove Vernon Howe from the list?"

"The invitations have already been sent..." I pinched the bridge of my nose, trying hard to suppress my irritation.

His voice turned cold on the other end of the line, "If you want to keep him, go ahead. I don't care. Hanging up..."

But just as I set my phone down and got ready to sleep, I suddenly heard a few sobs that nearly made me fall out of bed.

"She really still loves that scummy male lead. I'm just the second male lead.

System, I've been pretending for so long. Why doesn't Camille like me?"

I stared at my phone in disbelief. It was still on the call. Didn't he say he hung up?

Over the next hour, I gradually accepted the fact that I had somehow acquired the ability to read Lachlan's mind.

Even more unbelievable was the realization that the world we lived in was actually a book.

Lachlan was originally the story's devoted and cuddly second male lead-a puppy-like one. Once bound to the Second Male Lead Ascension System, he steeled himself, resolved to mimic the icy persona of a tyrannical CEO hero, and set out to win me over.

I thought Lachlan used to be so cute when he was young. How did life grind him down into something as cold and rigid as an ice sculpture?

I could only say he took a wrong turn in life.

That cold, aloof male lead type might very well get abandoned by his wife.

As for Lachlan...

It was wrong to throw away a puppy, so I thought I'd keep him for now.

When Lachlan's steady breathing reached me, I thought the night's scares were over.

But the real surprises were still ahead.

For two solid hours, his sleep ramblings-jumbling on about colors, listing some while leaving half out-were nothing short of mental pollution.

I was only freed when I remembered I could hang up the call.

But by then, it was too late. I couldn't fall asleep at all.

That dog was a lost cause now... beyond saving...

The wedding went on as scheduled the next day. Lachlan looked sharp in his tailored black suit, and even with a cold expression, he still radiated charm.

And I... stood there with dark circles, glaring at him with resentment all over my face.

"Why is Camille staring at me like that, System? Am I too handsome for her to handle?"

Lachlan secretly turned halfway, presenting his side profile to me.

If it were before, I would have thought he was deliberately giving me the cold shoulder.

But now...

"This side of my face is more handsome. Let Camille look at it more, so she knows I'm way better than that scummy male lead!"

This guy definitely had something on his mind...

The wedding proceeded as per the ritual, and finally, amid Lachlan's muttering to himself, reached the part he'd been eagerly waiting for.

"Will the groom please kiss the bride!"

At that moment, Lachlan wrapped his arm around my waist, keeping a deliberately modest distance, and gave a gentle kiss at the corner of my lips.

Well... very fitting for his aloof persona, assuming he wasn't mentally screaming inside. "She smells so good. She's so soft. Oh, I really want to touch her..."

The thoughts that followed were far too inappropriate, making my face flush red.

Then, a gust of cold wind blew, and I instantly snapped back to reality...

Don't ask. If you did, it's just that Lachlan saw my face and immediately told the staff to turn down the indoor temperature.

The thing was, it was winter. Winter!
