Chapter 1 Preface

Unknown POV

**Twenty years ago**

Horror. Total and absolute terror. She could feel nothing else except it.

In a single night, her brothers and sisters, nearly her whole species, were wiped off. She found the news hard to believe and refused to accept it. How on earth could this have occurred?

Then, Maldrien, she became aware. It was his doing. That was necessary.

She was proof that the vampire king hated witches and warlocks, as he had openly said. Ensnared, far below the surface, in the monarch's prison.

However, she never imagined that he would go after the entire species. And how on earth is it feasible to eliminate them all in one evening? That's when she realized she recalled the guard outside her cell. The one who broke this news to her. She was confident it was on the king's orders. An additional means of tormenting her.

She knew he couldn't lie since he was Fae. And he'd informed her in easy-to-understand language. That can't be a hoax, thus it had to be real. She raised an eyebrow at him and posed a single query.

"How?"

The fae guy continued, "It was their friends, their lovers, their mates," after simply standing there and staring at her for a while. They all turned on them at precisely nine o'clock. Killed them to serve their monarch."

Though it appeared unfeasible, she was aware of Maldrien's seductive and cunning nature. The only person who could convince someone to kill their chosen partner was Maldrien. Mates should, nevertheless, always be able to defend one another. How could he have persuaded so many people to kill every witch they knew to do this? Even their partners.

It's no secret that mating with an alien species was an unusual occurrence. But in the last 10 years, it has grown more and more prevalent. She said that although it took some time for people to adjust, it was now generally accepted. The topic of rejecting a partner who happened to be a different species was no longer discussed.

And for a very long time, every supernatural species had coexisted peacefully, even becoming friends. How, therefore, could Maldrien persuade everyone to turn against the warlocks and witches? Why did they do it? Subsequently, she recalled the final statement made by the fae guard: "In service of their king."

Not the monarch of all supernatural beings, but the king of vampires, was Maldrien. He appeared to have higher goals, though. Even the greatest power in the world will never be sufficient for someone like Maldrien. She knew that he would never give up. And this is only the start.

She was left with nothing but silence -no cries and no words, just the bitterness of betrayal. The ones they loved most had become their executioners. Her kind had trusted too easily, loved too freely, and paid the ultimate price.

Now, the survivors live in shadows training, planning, and waiting for someone to strike back. For someone strong enough to finish what was started. She doesn't know this yet, but the girl born from the ashes of that night will become the spark that reignites the war.
