Chapter 1

I was paralyzed while trying to save my fiancée, Rosalie Gibson, in a car accident.

She didn't abandon me despite my condition and married me anyway.

Just as I was consumed with guilt for marrying her, I stumbled upon her secret with Andreas Baxter.

"The medicine you gave works. He'll never be able to stand up again. He'll never guess that you're my true love."

It turned out my legs were fine.

They had been scheming to prevent my recovery.

I secretly changed the medicine she gave me.

I wanted to see if Andreas became crippled, would she still be unwavering in her devotion to her 'true love'?

"Brandon, that fool, still thinks he can't stand up because there's no cure."

"Otherwise, why would he give us so much money?"

Laughter echoed from the room.

I gripped the wheelchair handles tightly as the bouquet slipped from my lap to the floor.

Rosalie heard the noise and came out.

A flicker of panic crossed her face, quickly replaced by anger. "Why didn't you tell me you were back? You're not eavesdropping on us, are you?"

I found it incredibly ironic.

I had bought flowers to surprise her by coming home early, only to catch them in their affair.

I suppressed my anger and looked at Andreas behind her. "I just got back. Why are you alone with another man in the bedroom?"

Rosalie visibly relaxed and frowned impatiently. "What do you mean by that? Don't you trust me? He was a classmate of mine. The air conditioner broke, so I asked him to come over and fix it."

Andreas quickly chimed in, showing the tool bag in his hand.

I sneered inwardly. They were well-prepared.

"How come I didn't know the air conditioner was broken?"

Rosalie's eyes stopped at my legs, and she uttered a soft sound, "As if you could fix it anyway. Can you climb a ladder?"

I clenched my teeth, my temples throbbing with anger.

In the past, when Rosalie mocked my paralysis, I chose to endure it out of guilt.

Now, knowing the truth, I wanted nothing more than to tear her apart.

Rosalie ignored my presence and eagerly poured coffee for Andreas. "Don't take it to heart. Ever since the accident, his temper has been a bit strange."

Andreas laughed awkwardly, looking at me with mockery in his eyes. "Rosalie, it must be hard for you to take care of your husband, right? So tough that you have to endure his temper. There goes your happiness for the rest of your life."

He deliberately emphasized the last words.

Rosalie didn't get angry, instead, she laughed along with him.

I clenched my fists. If not for rationality holding me back, I would have rushed into the kitchen to grab a knife and end it with this cheating couple.

"Why haven't I heard you mention such a close classmate before?"

I wheeled myself to Rosalie's side.

She noticed my displeasure and spoke sharply, "You don't suspect that I have anything going on with him, do you? If I liked someone else, I wouldn't have married you when you were paralyzed."

I couldn't fathom how she could lie so brazenly.

I laughed scornfully, "Why am I paralyzed? If not for saving you, would I be like this?"

Years ago, Rosalie almost got hit by a car, and I dove in to save her life.

Even after being diagnosed as paralyzed, I never regretted saving her.

If she had chosen to call off the wedding, I wouldn't have minded.

Yet she fooled me, deceiving me and killing my hope of recovering.

Rosalie's face turned red as she glared at me, "I didn't force you to save me. How many times are you going to bring this up? I felt sorry for you and married you, took care of you for so many years, haven't I done enough for you?"

Her words pierced my heart.

Even the accident was just my own foolishness, wasn't it?

I took a deep breath and said, "Then let's divorce."

Rosalie's expression froze, looking at me in disbelief.

She suddenly pushed my wheelchair away, "You dare mention divorce to me?"

Andreas realized the situation was tense and quickly stepped forward to restrain her. "Divorce is no joke. Calm down, both of you. Rosalie, we still need to go out and buy things. You should cool off first."

Rosalie struggled a few times but couldn't break free, eventually being forcibly pulled away by Andreas.

The door slammed shut again.

I thought they had come back.

"Rosalie, I won't change my mind." I shouted sternly, only to turn and meet my parents' shocked gazes.

My mother saw the strange man's leather jacket on the sofa and realized something was amiss. "Brandon, what's going on..."

I saw how much they had aged over the years because of my illness.

My nose tingled, and I suddenly changed my mind.

I couldn't let them off so easily.

"She's changed her heart. Once I handle everything, I'll divorce her."

My father sat silently, smoking.

My mother's eyes reddened, and she came over to rub my numb legs. "Are you sure Rosalie isn't just confused for a moment? She's had a tough time over the past few years. Maybe you should talk it out and see if she can change her mind."

I didn't want to say too much to worry them.

I pounded my legs forcefully and sneered. "I'm like this because of her."

My father looked up, his tone somewhat disapproving. "You should be a true gentleman. You saved her because you were responsible. How can you be so petty between husband and wife?"

I looked at them. "What if I told you I could actually recover, stand up like a normal person? She and her lover conspired to drug me, preventing my recovery. That's why I've been a cripple for so many years."

My parents looked at me in shock, seemingly unable to believe my words.

My father pounded the table in anger. "If this is true, we'll report it to the police right now."

My mother was already in tears, "How could she be so cruel to harm you. You saved her!"

I reached out to wipe her tears away, "Dad, Mom, if you believe me, let me handle this. Once I've vented my anger, I'll divorce her."

My mother anxiously held onto me, "You can't do anything foolish."

I shook my head. I wouldn't ruin my life because of them.

Just then, Rosalie returned.

Seeing my parents, her eyes instantly reddened. "Brandon, do you really want to divorce me? Maeve, I've been by Brandon side all these years. Even if I haven't achieved anything, I've worked hard. How can he treat me like this?"

She cried uncontrollably, clinging to my mother and complaining.

I watched Rosalie coldly, unable to understand what right she had to cry.

My mother was so angry she wanted to push her away.

I gave them a look and shook my head. "You should go back first."

Rosalie, usually stubborn, surprisingly softened. "There's nothing between us. I was just too angry earlier, speaking recklessly."

These words were probably taught to her by Andreas.

If we divorced, Andreas could marry her. Why would he try so hard to stop Rosalie from agreeing?

Rosalie saw I wasn't speaking and leaned against me. "Andreas heard you used to love skiing. He said he would invite us to go skiing in Lasvell."

I scoffed, "In my condition, how can I ski?"

"With all the modern advancements, there are sleds that can pull wheelchairs. It would also be nice to see the snow. We can take the cable car and enjoy the view."

Inviting a paralyzed person to ski, their intentions were clear.

I wanted to see what Andreas had up his sleeve.

Just as well, I was worried about not having a chance to get close to him.

"Alright." I hid my emotions and agreed readily.

At night, Rosalie, as usual, prepared water and reminded me to take my medicine.

I looked at the capsules in my hand, and to prevent her from getting suspicious, I swallowed them.
