Chapter 1
Lydia's POV
The large door opened. I walked in, staring fixedly at Alpha Damon who was going through a scroll in his hands. "Yes, you called me," I said as soon as I walked into the throne room.
"Yes, I did." Alpha Damon said with a nod, rolling the scroll, then he gave it to his guard who was standing just beside him. "Well, I called concerning the mating ceremony tonight, hope you're aware of it?" He asked.
"Yes, Your Majesty." I nodded my head.
"Good. So, therefore, you will be attending as part of the pack's leaders." He said to my surprise.
I furrowed my brows, I just don't understand why he would want me to attend the mating ceremony when I wasn't ready to be mated. "I... I don't understand why I have to show up, Your Majesty. I mean, it isn't necessary for me to. I'm not ready..."
He cuts me short. "The mating ceremony is not for those who are ready, Miss Martin, it's for everyone. So, I want you specifically in the mating ground tonight. Don't let me look for you, understand?" He warns.
I was annoyed at this, but I dared not to say a word to the Alpha or he'll have me punished severely for refusing his order. "Gather the she-wolves in the conference room, we're expecting a very important person tonight."
I raised an eyebrow at him, who could that be? I thought. "An important guest?" I asked. "Who is this guest you speak of?"
Alpha Damon smiled at how confused I was. "Don't worry, you'll find out when he arrives." He said, not wanting to tell me who exactly it was.
I exited the room, but her mind hadn't given up trying to figure out who this very important guest could be. I called all the she-wolves as most of them are likely to be taken during the mating period. I saw to it that everything was perfectly organized and there was no room for Alpha Damon to complain.
We all waited for other packs to arrive. While doing so, I left for her room, sitting frustratedly by the edge side of my bed. I was thinking, imagining how tonight would be. I hated the fact that Alpha Damon desperately wanted me to show up in the ceremony.
For so many reasons I hated the mating ceremony, and this year it was my pack's turn to host it. The worst part of it all is the fact that I am an executive in the pack. The executives never miss an event or important show. I wish I could convince Alpha Damon that I ain't ready yet and definitely can't show up for the ceremony.
But something tells me that was just impossible as Alpha Damon won't give me a listening ear.
The evening slowly approached, leaving me more frustrated than I already was. There came a knock on the door, it was my maid. "Come in." I permitted.
The door slowly opened, and the young lady walked in silence, her face buried in the ground. Out of every maiden in the house, mine was one of the best with a defined mannered character. She always has this respect for people higher than she is, and no one is better at looking at the ground if it isn't her.
"My lady, the Alpha sent me to check in on you. He wants to know how ready you are for the ceremony." She announced.
I sighed. Alpha Damon, not again.
"Well, I'm very much ready for the ceremony, you can help me tell him that. I'll just have to take my bath, and I'll be there in a few minutes."
"I'll let him know that."
"Thank you."
I rushed my bath, changing into the gown my maid had brought for me. I was finding it a bit difficult to knot the robes at the back when the door suddenly opened. I looked through the mirror to see who it was, hoping it would be my maid.
But Alpha Damon walked in instead. What the fuck is he doing here? I mentally asked myself amid surprise and confusion.
"I came to check on you. Even though your maid said you were dressing, I still felt I should check if she was telling the truth."
"Well, now you see she was telling you the truth." I gazed at him from the mirror, watching him display a soft smile on his face.
I was forcing myself to have the ropes tied perfectly well, but after every effort, the gown still felt lossy at the top side, making it look awful on me. "Maybe, you should just ask for help."
I didn't say a word, I only looked at him. He walked behind me, taking the ropes and knotting them in the best way. He had tied the first two so tight that I was finding it difficult to breathe. "I'm gonna die," I complained and he untied it, tying it much better.
After he was done, I looked down at my chest, My breasts were halfway high from my sleeveless gown, and it would pop out more when I tried to inhale. I noticed Alpha Damon's eyes were on me, admiring how the dress looked on me from head to toe.
"You look gorgeous, Miss Martin." He complimented.
I blushed. "Thank you, Your Majesty."
"Shall we?" He curves his hand for me to hold. I took hold of it as we left the room. We trailed down to the conference room where the mating ceremony will be held. My heart was beating so fast, for the first year in years I was feeling scared of nothing.
Maybe, I'm just scared of getting mated.
"Your majesty," I called him, drawing his attention to myself.
"Yes, Lydia."
"When you talked about an important guest who will be showing up tonight, who were you referring to?" I asked, curious.
He smirked. "Still thinking about it?" He asked unbelievably.
"Not really, I just remembered about it now."
"Well, that important person has just arrived. Don't you want to see him in person?" I threw my gaze at the entrance door, patiently waiting for the so-called important guest to show up.
From the way everyone grew quiet, I can guess that indeed this very guest was someone special to everyone.
An elegant man walked in. Tall, fair-skinned with well-sculpted cheekbones. His eyes were the most beautiful and amazing thing I have ever seen, his hair was in an afro style, and Jerry curled to his left side. His black tuxedo matched the well-polished shoe he was putting on, giving his body a well-defined shape.
His name is Alpha Isaac... The famous Lycan king.
He looked in Alpha Damon's direction, and a fair smile played on his lips as well as on Alpha Damon's. As he got closer to Alpha Damon, I was wondering why I was feeling different. The room was becoming suffocating for me, more like I was burning under the freezing weather. My breath seized, I could barely breathe well.
What's going on? What's wrong with me? I was perfectly fine minutes ago, but now everything's changed.
I sighed, exhaling heavily, trying to compose myself from drawing attention. But there's something about this weird feeling I don't understand. When I said suffocating, I wasn't talking about the other suffocation we all know, I meant those kinds you feel when you've got an eye-fucking handsome dude staring at you, and those burning heat of excitement bursting your veins... Yeah, that's exactly the kind I am talking about.
But why would I be feeling this way?
Alpha Isaac and Damon exchanged hugs and handshakes. I was staring at Alpha Isaac, wondering what exactly was so special about him that made Alpha Damon refer to him as an important guest. Or could it be because of his beauty?
I was deep in thought, not realizing how long I had been staring at Alpha Isaac until I felt his eyes on me. I couldn't hide the fact that I was staring at him for a long time since he'd caught me already. I felt my heart flinch but then relaxed with a spark of excitement that had nothing to do with the awkward moment.
But then... Why was he giving me those looks???

I quickly looked away from his gaze, feeling my heart pounding hard against my chest. I slightly moved my eyes at Alpha Damon, hoping he didn't notice what happened, but the way he looked at me told me that he did notice.
I checked on my wristwatch, it was a few minutes to the mating period. As much as I tried to calm my nervous heart down, it kept beating more. I don't know why but I was having this feeling that tonight wasn't my night. It will not end up the way I hoped for it.
"It's almost time, Miss Martin." I heard Alpha Damon say this and I looked at him. He's been searching for his mate for years now, two years to be precise.
Living alone for the last few years hasn't been a good one for him lately. Most times when he storms up, there's no one to calm him down, to do the duty of a mate. Sometimes, I'd try my best to talk to him.
Though not every attempt goes pretty successful, at least I always try my best to see that he calms down before I leave his room. One day, he talked about hoping I am his mate since no one understands him more than I do.
I do like Alpha Damon, but not to the point of having him as my mate. Or do I have to remind myself that I ain't ready to be mated yet? I just wanna face my life, my duty, and my future! I don't want someone to control my life, question every single thing I do, and ask me silly and numerous questions all in the name of submission.
I don't think I want love for crying out loud. I don't wanna feel sorry or worried or bothered about anyone. I wanna leave my life the way I want, enjoy my youthful age, and then wait for the impossible to come.
But I guess not all prayers are answered. Especially mine.
The bell was finally ruined everyone was mating response from their so-called mate. I felt reluctant, but then an eye looked in my direction. I was wondering why he was giving me those dreadful looks, his golden eyes pierced into mine and it felt more like he was going to bite me.
He growled hungrily at me. Then another growled, both staring directly at me. I looked for alpha Damon but he had gone to find his mate. It's just me and myself, and for a moment I felt weak to defend myself.
I'm a Beta who has no fear in her, but this time I did. Those type of fear that wants your Superman to take the risk of saving your ass. When they came running to me, I growled at them. Surprisingly, I didn't hear my voice, I heard the voice of the one whose voice had authority in it.
His growl was so strong that I had to step back. He was facing the two werewolves, and on seeing him they left. He took time to look at me, and when his facial appearance returned to normal, he finally turned to me.
"Mate." He said the word with so much power and respect.
I wanted to be sure it wasn't what I heard, or maybe somehow my imagination was playing games with me.
"Finally, I found you." He said.
I shook my head continuously, stepping backward away from him. "No, you're mistaken." I refused to accept the fact. "You're wrong. I am not your mate, I have nothing to do with you."
"You don't have to ignore the bond, sweetheart."
"What bond?" I snapped. "I don't know what you're talking about. I didn't feel anything about you. I don't want you! I don't want anything about you, okay?!"
"If you didn't feel anything, then why were you staring at me earlier?" He demanded.
"Oh, earlier? Well, I was only trying to figure out what's so important about you that Alpha Damon adores."
He chuckled. "Well, I guess he didn't tell you about me, did he?"
"Not interested." I blurted.
"I see."
"Well, Mr, I think you've got the wrong girl for a mate. Maybe you should search better for your true mate."
"I don't need to search anymore, I already found the one person I have been waiting for a long time. Now, I have come to take you home with me."
"I reject you! I don't want you any way close to my life!" There was a sudden pause in the hall, all attention was moved to their direction. "I reject you, Alpha Isaac. I reject to be your mate."
"That's not happening, Miss Martin." I was shocked he called me by my name. Did he just call my name?
But how?
"I know everything about you, sweetheart. Will you deny the fact that you didn't feel the same way? The heat, the anxiety, the steady heartbeat. Will you deny that you didn't feel the mating bond with me?" He asked, his hazel blue eyes sinking into mine like he was kinda of searching for an answer right inside my soul.
"I didn't feel anything for you," I said as a matter of fact. I shook my head at him. "I can never be your mate." A smirk played on his lips as soon as I said those words. I didn't bother, I walked out on him, heading to my room.
"Lydia! Lydia!" Called my brother but I paid deaf ears, running to my room. I slammed the door hard, bolting it so that Tom wouldn't have to open it.
I was so confused. Why would the moon goddess for such a thing to me? Why would she mate me at such an early stage? Doesn't she understand the fact that I don't want to love her?
And of all people, why does it have to be Alpha Isaac? Not even the usual werewolf alphas, she had me stuck in the life of a lycan king! A Lycan king for crying out loud!
And why the fuck did I felt those strange feelings for him? I knew those weird feelings were for him, but I couldn't stand the chance to accept the fact that they were for him.
Alpha Isaac seems to be every woman's dream. I noticed the way most she-wolves felt when they saw him, the blushes on their faces, and the way they murmured about him. But hell no! That dude ain't for me
Chapter 3
Lydia POV
"Lydia, it's me, Tom. Please open the door." Tom requested.
"No. I don't wanna talk to anyone tonight. No one should convince me that I have to accept him as my mate."
"But you have to, Lydia. He is your mate. Alpha Isaac is..."
"You don't understand, do you?!" I yelled. "No one can ever understand my emotions."
"Of course, I do. I do understand how you feel more than anyone. I understand you better because you are my sister."
"If you do, you wouldn't convince me to accept Alpha Isaac."
"And if I don't understand you, I would have convinced you to reject him." He opposed it.
"Please, just go away." I sniffled.
"I can't go away when my sister isn't in a good mood. Maybe you should just open the door and let's talk about this together." I reluctantly walked to the door, unbolting it before pushing it open, and letting him walk in.
I was about to shut the door when I hand-held it halfway. Tom and I both moved our heads to see who it was when Alpha Damon showed up. "Don't you realize someone is missing?"
I forced myself to laugh. Alpha Damon seems excited about tonight, I guess he must have found his mate. "So, let's start with, your night wasn't a good one, Why?" Alpha Damon asked me. "And please, don't tell me it's because you aren't ready, with all the blah blah blah reasons." He rolled his eyes, causing me to laugh.
"It's exactly what I was going to say."
"Well, that's wrong. Wrong if I am to say." Now, he was sounding serious. "As much as some of us don't want this ceremony held, we have no choice but to face it. Those people out there with their new partners, do you think they asked for it? No, they didn't. They never did. It just came and they had to accept it, doesn't make them senseless.
The mating ceremony is already a tradition among the wolves, and there's nothing we can do to change it. Know that this mating bond comes once in a while, those who lose their first chance can never find another. It's only by luck they do. What if I ask you, what if your opportunity is now? What will you say in the future when there's no one coming to claim you again?"
I looked over at Tom who has been nodding at every word Alpha Damon said. "He is right." He added. "You don't wanna miss this awesome opportunity, do you? Alpha Isaac is a cool person, he will never do anything to hurt you."
"If you don't mind me asking when he said about you feeling weird when he walked into the conference room, was he telling the truth?" Both men were glaring at me as if they'd die if I didn't tell them.
I hesitated, looking at their faces one after a time. "No... he wasn't lying," I said coldly, staring at my fingers.
They busted out laughing, leaving me buried in confusion. "Why are you guys laughing at me?" I asked, looking at their faces for an answer.
"You are a tough girl, Lydia. With all the audacity and meanness you played out there, one may think you are telling the truth." Alpha Damon said with all certainty.
I smiled halfway.
"Well, let's not make this an emotional one, Remember we've got a guest waiting." Tom reminded.
"Can't you guys talk to him and persuade him to shift the traveling by tomorrow morning? I wanna say my last goodbye to my home." I pleaded.
"It's not too late to say it now, sweetheart," Tom said. "Alpha Isaac might think we are trying to play games with him if we have to persuade him."
"Fine. I'll go get my stuff." Tom helped me pack my things while Alpha Damon left to keep Alpha Isaac company. Not like I was really happy that I was leaving, but I had no choice.
I finally got my stuff set and ready to go. Alpha Isaac was in the sitting room with Damon, on seeing me his eyes didn't leave mine. One thing about Alpha Isaac's glares is the fact that they are irresistible and dead-killing, I'll admit. They were doing things to me, things I hated to feel at the moment.
Alpha Damon looked at my side. "Here she is, ready as never." He comes to hug me. "Always be a good girl, okay?" He whispered.
"I will." I hugged him so tight. He kissed my forehead every father would do to their daughters. "You take good care of yourself for me."
"I will."
We broke the hug, exchanging a farewell smile. I hug Tom, waving my hand at him. "I'll miss you," I said.
"I'll miss you too."
We got to the parked car outside the mansion. A guard opened the back seat door for us to enter. I hopped in before Alpha Isaac did. I was wondering why he hadn't followed the other vehicle at the back, why must it be mine?
The long ride was accompanied by silence. I had made up my mind not to say a word to him until we got to his home, and I'll still not say a word to him after that until tomorrow morning.
As if he read my mind, he asked; "What's your name, sweetheart?"
I looked at him for a second. He must be joking, right? He just said during the mating ceremony that he knows everything about me. Why then is he asking for my name? I wondered.
"My name is Lydia Martin," I replied.
"Lydia." He said the name like it was special. "That's a nice name. Though tonight didn't go as you expected, I can assure you that you won't regret your decision."
"That's what all Alphas say when they find their mate, At the end of the day they begin to show the real devil inside of them," I said not minding how the words sounded.
He chuckled. Why does he find things funny?
"Well, I'm not like other Alphas, and I can never be like them." Something about him tells me to believe his words. He looked forward. "By the way, welcome to my home."
The car came to a stop. The driver left the car to open the back seat for us. I stepped out of the car, staring at the mansion before me.
My jaw dropped open. I was so speechless that inside of me, I felt like I was taken to another realm of earth. I mean, was I?
"Holy. Fucking. Cow."
