Ava's POV
I shifted in the bed but I couldn't feel my husband's warm body close to mine.
Perhaps he went down to drink something to help him sleep well. He often had
Insomnia.
I walked down the stairs to get some milk, I felt a bit uneasy and my wolf has been restless for some time now. I had gone for a run and tried so many things to calm her down, but they didn't work. Sage was sitting on the stool in the kitchen, drinking some milk.
The room was dimly lit, he didn't turn on the bright lights.
"Can't sleep hunny?" I asked.
He hummed in affirmation, I kissed his cheek and opened the fridge to get some milk. I stretched up to get the container from the top part of the fridge but I couldn't reach it.
I felt Sage's presence behind me. I turned to him with a small smile on my face, he always teased me about my height and ended up doing what I wanted to do.
"I'm sorry," he looked at me.
My smile fell, "Sorry for what.."
A silver knife was plunged into my chest before I could even understand what was happening.
I fell on the floor, trying to pull it out and get myself together so that my wolf, Lia would heal me but my strength was already drained and the silver had started poisoning my blood. I tried crawling away from him, he didn't move, he just kept staring at me, hoping to see me take my last breath.
"I don't think I can save both of you Ava. The little one is conserving my energy." Lia whispered.
Little one? I was pregnant?
And I was about to die with my unborn baby inside of me.
I was struggling to breathe properly.
Suddenly the door opened and my twin brother, Alvin walked in.
I stopped struggling. Finally, someone to save me.
"Alvin, help!" I cried silently. I could already feel life slowly slip out of my body.
Alvin looked at me with no emotions on his face, "Finally Babe, I was wondering if you started liking my sister or something else. I'm glad you didn't forget where you belong to." My brother walked towards Sage and kissed his cheek, forehead and then his lips. They made out on the kitchen island.
Eww! That's so disgusting!
I couldn't comprehend what was happening at this point.
I was the Luna of Crowfowd pack. My parents were the former rulers and they stepped down after I got married to my betrothed Alpha when I was 23 years old.
They always said they had special children because my twin brother was a failure. He couldn't fight, he wasn't good in academics, there was nothing he was good at, he always failed at everything he did. At some point in our lives, our parents stopped talking to him for some time, and I became their shining gold, but that didn't make me stop loving my brother, although he didn't feel the same. He always thought I was the worst person in the world, he often told me that he hated me even when I tried to convince him that I loved him.
I would stand up to my parents and tell them to stop making him feel unwanted.
They had no choice but to listen to their 'Shining Gold'. I knew that my brother was disappointed in himself but hell broke loose when they decided to transfer the crown and leadership to me since I was betrothed to a powerful Alpha from a neighboring pack. My brother started drinking throughout the night, and even sleeping with the omegas in the pack.
One day, a year ago, he changed. He stopped drinking and started behaving lovingly towards me. I was a bit dumbfounded but that's what I wanted my whole life. For once in my life, I felt like my family was perfect. My marriage was just six months by then, my brother joined the administrative professionals and was doing quite well, my parents were proud, and the pack was peaceful.
All I had ever wanted.
Even if someone had told me that my loving husband would pierce a knife through my chest, and my brother would be his accomplice, I would have never believed.
What would happen to my parents? My pack? This can't be the end.
I looked at them again, they were making fun of me as I gasped for air. Help wasn't coming from anywhere.
So this was it? This was how I would die?
I didn't say a word, my eyes fluttered shut and that was when I took my last breath.
The last thing I heard was my husband and brother laughing.
They had turned their backs on me, with joined hands.
My eyes fluttered open, I sat up quickly, and I saw a lady in a gold glistening gown, she had a tight smile on her face.
She gestured to me to come close to her. She looked like she was in her late 30s, still very young with brown skin and jet black hair.
Everywhere was cloudy as though we were in the sky, walking on clouds.
I walked towards her, trying to see if I would fall.
Oh... I forgot I'm already dead.
Maybe this is the afterlife. Even if I came here too early, you'd never know what would happen next. I could be given an award as the most doting wife and caring sibling.
After all, anything can happen.
"Luna Ava Morales, I have been watching you since you were born. You have continued to make me proud every single time," she held my hand and smiled at me. I smiled back at her.
At least someone is proud of the woman I became.
"Who are you? Moon Goddess?" I scrunch my eyebrows.
"My name is Elie. You are not supposed to be here right now. Your generation needs you, you are the solution to generational curse that will arise in the future if not everyone will be wiped out.The prophecy still needs fulfillment if not they'll come for it," She looked me straight in the eyes.
"You have to go back."
"What do you mean generational curse? We aren't under any curse, and the pack is peaceful. I can't go back now. I'm already dead and there are still some questions that need answers," I pleaded with her.
"You'll get to know in due time. You have to be strong, he's coming." She touched my eyes and everything became dark.
Ava's POV
"Luna Ava," I opened my eyes and gasped for air.
I turned to see my aide, River, beside me. I looked at her in confusion.
Is she also dead?
"Luna Ava it's time to see your betrothed, Alpha Sage. He is with your parents, they are already waiting for you downstairs. Your presence is needed," She bowed.
This happened two years ago, why is it repeating itself over again?
"Uhm... What's today's date?" I looked around my room. It was painted dark blue just the way I remembered, with my table and chair at the side of my queen-size bed that had blue covers on it. This was my room before I got married.
My favorite color is blue so I decided to use different shades of it in different parts of my room.
"It's February 2nd, 2016," she replied.
It's 2016 not 2018 any more. It was two years before the day I died. I'm not dead anymore. How'd this happen? The Lady in Gold?
"Where are they?" I removed my duvet from my body and went to pick a dress from my walk-in closet.
She followed me, "They're downstairs, at the courtyard Princess."
"Tell them I'll be down in a jiffy." She bowed and left the room.
My hands touched the dress I wore on this day, a yellow sundress and black sandals. I was happy to see Alpha Sage at that time, like a little child in a candy store, but I can't say the same right now.
I took out black cargo pants, a white big tee-shirt and my Nike shoes. I freshened up and put on some make-up before I headed downstairs.
"Hi mum and dad, good morning," I kissed their cheeks and looked at Alpha Sage, giving him a tight smile.
Mum and Dad had big smiles on their faces. "Good morning hunny," mum replied.
"Good Morning Ava," he stood up and held my waist.
"How was your night?"
I looked at his hand on my waist, goosebumps filled my skin in disgust. I remembered how he joined forces with my brother to kill me. He deliberately plunged a knife through my chest, and stared till I took my last breath. I shut my eyes tightly as I reminisced about that event. A tear dared to slip down my face, but I shut my eyes and took a deep breath instead.
"Fine. I'm going to get something to eat mom." I looked at her, she was smiling brightly. I walked towards the kitchen and served something to eat. Sage was right behind me, "Won't you serve your husband to be?"
"You can serve yourself if you're hungry," I continued with what I was doing.
"Woke up on the wrong side of the bed I see. Maybe we could go for a stroll in the evening, when I'm done with discussing pack matters with your parents. We have a lot to talk about."
"I'll think about it. I'm actually going out right now, and I don't know when I'll be back."
He leaned down to kiss my cheek but I subtly moved my face away from his, grabbing more dishes in the process.
"We'll see whenever you're done with talking to them. I'm going on a run after now, so I'll see you whenever I get back," I slipped away and went to eat in the sitting room where my twin brother, Alvin, was watching football.
My very own brother who joined Sage to kill me.
"Hey sis, how do you do?" He smiled.
"I'm good." I took my food to my room to eat.
After eating one fourth of my food, due to lack of appetite, I dropped my plate in the kitchen island and went outside to get fresh air.
A lot of thoughts ran through my mind. I ran my hand through my hair over and over again.
What would my parents have thought? Cause there's no way they would come clean about killing me in cold blood. I sat on the lawned grass at a corner of the pack house.
What if the moon goddess didn't give me a second chance?
Where would I have been right now? Six feet under?
Tears slipped down my cheeks. I wanted to be strong, but I needed to let my weak side go away first. After some minutes, I wiped my face and stood up.
I will not allow them to win against me. I must fight, and win.
I took a little stroll before I went inside the house, straight to my room.
Before I could sit on my bed someone knocked on my door.
I didn't know sometime was following behind me... What's with all this disturbance?!
I took a deep breath then I opened the door. It was Alpha Sage.
"Yes. Do you need anything?" I rested by the doorframe.
"Can I talk to you in private?" He scratched behind his neck.
"I'm listening." I didn't move an inch.
"Can we go inside for more privacy, please?" He stared at me. His puppy dog eyes were a beautiful temptation that I couldn't resist that easily.
I shifted from the doorframe to give him space to enter the room. He came in and shut the door behind him.
"Good evening," I tried plastering a fake smile.
He pressed me on the door and put his head in my neck, hovering kisses all around my body. I placed my hands around his neck, while his hands were on my waist. I leaned to his familiar touch, savoring the moment.
"You've always had this effect on me Ava. I saw when you passed, you didn't look too good. Did anything happen?." He went down, kissing parts of my breast that were exposed.
"No.. nothing."
My heart started beating faster as I pressed closer to him. Memories of us together started playing in my head.
Even if I wanted to take revenge on him, I can't deny that I still feel a connection towards him, my feelings for him. I loved him.
"That's why I couldn't care less if you were my mate or not. We were destined to be together and I love you."
Love? That's a strong word from someone who betrayed me.
My mind reverted back to the murder incident and I quickly shoved him off me. I breathed heavily, trying to calm myself. I can't allow myself to fall for his flimsy attempt.
"What do you want?" I asked. My face was straight.
He came closer, "Maybe we could just continue from where we stopped. I really love you and I mean it, that's exactly why we're getting married, isn't it?"
His eyes were pleading with me to believe him, but I ignored him.
"I had a really stressful day, and I need to rest," I massaged my head a bit.
"Maybe I could help you relieve your stress," he said. He held my waist and pulled me closer, burying his head in my neck again. He softly pressed my back with his fingers, his hands slipped lower into my trousers.
I pushed him away before he tried to do anymore. His grip was still firm on my waist.
"Let's talk tomorrow. Maybe we could go out too," I smiled, but I doubt my smile reached my eyes. I slowly detached myself from him.
His eyes brightened up and he smiled at me, "Okay then. Then I'll see you tomorrow at 12."
He kissed my forehead then he turned around to leave.
"Goodnight love, I'll see you tomorrow." He shut the door behind him.
I signed.
I went to have my bath then I laid down on my bed. I twisted and turned to find a comfortable position on my bed, but it wasn't working. Sleep didn't come easily. I finally gave up and went downstairs to get something to drink.
Ava's POV
I don't really know where I should start from. What the prophecy is about and who I am to meet. In addition to the revenge I have to plan and execute without any suspicion.
The lights in the pack house were turned off, the only light illuminating the place was the moon shining outside, casting a soft glow in the kitchen.
I heard faint voices coming from the kitchen, and so I hid behind a pillar to see who they were.
"Are you sure she wouldn't suspect this?" The voice sounded a bit on the edge.
"She's not as smart as you think. Just make sure you don't make it obvious. You can't afford to flop." My brother held Sage at the back of his neck and brought their foreheads together.
Sage looked up and sniffed the air, "I think someone is coming."
He tried to pull away from Alvin, but Alvin pulled him closer and kissed him.
"I can't smell anything, maybe it's my arousal you're perceiving. Besides, we haven't been together for sometime and you're always all over my sister, can't we stay together for tonight." He whispered seductively.
Sage bent down and kissed him back, then he unbuckled Alvin's trousers and slid his hand inside.
Alvin pushed his head back, and shut his eyes.
"Let's take this upstairs." Sage slapped Alvin's butt.
Alvin let out a breath, "We would have done a quicky here, after all no one is watching."
He dragged Sage's hand, "You can't turn me on and not expect a wild night. Let's go have some rounds shall we?"
Alvin dragged a wine bottle on his way out, and they went upstairs together.
What the hell did I just witness?
I stood there for a few minutes.
Has this been happening under my nose ever since? How did I not notice? How could I have been so foolish?
I went to my room without getting the milk that I had initially gone downstairs to get.
I kept asking why? Why me?
Why did my brother and husband do that to me? What did I do to offend them? If it was because of their relationship, I would have given up so that they could get married.
At this point, I would have preferred to be six feets under than to watch as they betray me. I wonder what generational curse the moon goddess was talking about. I couldn't think of anything.
I stared at my ceiling till dawn, getting little to no sleep at night.
I stood up from my bed, freshened up and decided to go for a run to ease my mind. My wolf, Lia, had been very quiet ever since we returned. I know it was hard for her to accept Sage as our mate but she did, and she loved him just as much as she would love our mate. She's also mourning the loss of our little one, we both are.
She had warned me that Sage was cheating on us, but I was in love. I didn't listen. Maybe if I had paid more attention, things would have been different.
I went to a secret corner of the house and removed my clothes, shifted into my wolf, and started running off into the forest. My white fur whipped through the air as I ran faster on my fore and hind limbs.
How was I reborn two years back and why?
Who is He? And why is he coming?
What curse was she talking about?
I felt frustrated by my unanswered questions. I lifted my head, and howled.
I scented a whiff of chocolate and caramel mixed with smoke. I padded cautiously towards the scent, hiding behind the trees.
The broad shoulders of a huge guy faced me. He was wearing a black shirt and black trousers. His hair was a bit rough, as though he had run his hands through it for a thousand and one times.
I was some meters behind him but I knew the scent was coming from him. He threw his cigarette butt on the grass and groaned in annoyance.
I don't know if it was just me, or that groan sounded sexy.
My wolf took control and I started padding towards him, before I could take control of myself, I was already very close to him.
The hairs on his neck stood and he turned back swiftly. His eyes were the first to catch my attention, a beautiful shade of blue. My favorite color.
I took a few steps back, and bent my head. I wanted him to touch me, I just wanted contact. He bent down and placed his hand on my head, touching me down to my back. I purred in satisfaction.
He didn't smell like a pack member, and I highly doubt he'll be a human, cause humans don't come here. So who is this man?
He jerked away from me as though he just regained himself, then he started shifting.
He was shifting into something else, not a wolf.
"Run. Get away from me as fast as possible." He shouted.
He staggered back, creating some space between us.
I walked towards him, whimpering softly.
I just met you, I can't leave now. You're my mate.
"Get out of here as fast as you can. If you don't want to die," he hissed his fangs at me.
Before he finished shifting, I took off sprinting back to the pack house as fast as I could.
I had never seen this beautiful man in my whole life, and he's not from this pack. He looked like a threat, yet I couldn't help but feel drawn towards him like a magnet.
I landed on the ground with a pitch black lycan on me. It was thrice my size, and could kill me with a snap of its teeth.
It had the same chocolate scent as my mate. Could he be the man from earlier? If he was serious about his threat, I could be in deep trouble.
My brain signaled that I would fight, and run away, but I continued to stare at him. His blue eyes were mesmerizing. I had never seen a lycan in my life.
The lycan released his grip on me and took off running in the opposite direction. The urge to run after him was strong but I stopped myself. I ran to the pack house instead.
Why was he running away from me?
Maybe it wasn't meant to be and I wasn't meant to find my mate.... Ever.
