Chapter 1 billionaire mistress

Susan's POV]

"I'm sorry, Susan. I just can't do this anymore..." Jack's words left me pale.

"What do you mean, Jack?" I asked, hoping to confirm what he had just told me.

"I can't disobey my parents, Susan. I'm sorry, but I tried. I'm really sorry; this couldn't work out..." he said, hanging up the call before I could even utter another word.

My grip loosened on my phone as it hit the ground, smashing into pieces. My legs gave way, crumbling down as the realization hit me.

"Jack just broke up with me. No, this can't be... No! I must be dreaming, right?" I mumbled, tears slowly flowing down my face.

My hands gathered the shattered pieces of the phone, trying to put them back together.

"No, it can't be. I have to call him. I have to call Jack; he can't do this... Why would he...?"

But what was I doing? The phone was already ruined. I shouldn't have thrown it in the first place. I'm sure Jack must have made a mistake, right? He must have...

"Susan Anderson!" A yell caught my attention, echoing around the room.

Managing a proper gaze, I caught sight of the CEO's secretary approaching me, accompanied by two of the company's bodyguards.

Her eyes met mine as I tried standing back up, but before I could even give a proper stance, I felt a sharp sting on my face, which almost caused me to stumble back. My hands covered my cheek.

"You bitch! You must think you're smart!" the secretary spat, glaring at me with disgust.

"What do you mean, Mrs. Smith?" I asked, only to witness her drawing out some newspaper which she flung at me, scattering through the air as one landed on my face.

Holding it up to check what was written there, my eyes widened in shock as my grip loosened, and the paper slipped from my fingers, fluttering down.

"Lovie Groups of Companies launched a new product called 'Mother's Love'," the caption read.

How is this possible? This can't be... Just how?

"You care to explain that, Susan? I must say I have suspected you right from the very day... Finally, I have proof," I heard the secretary say, a grin painting on her lips.

"But Mrs. Smith... How is this possible? How did they steal our idea?" I asked.

Lovie Group was our rival company, always trying to bring our company down, but seeing what read in the newspapers... They had just launched the product which was an idea I had created last week. How is this possible?

"Oh, so now you're just going to fake it, right? Yeah, you can't escape this one, surely. Has nobody told you that you're a bad actress? You're asking how they got the idea. Isn't it obvious? You sold it to them," she accused.

"Mrs. Smith, I didn't sell the idea to them. I can never do that," I insisted.

"Whatever. You're fired, Susan Anderson. I want you to pack your stuff and leave," she said as she turned to walk away.

"Please, Mrs. Smith... please. I can prove it. I didn't do such a thing. Why would..." I pleaded, the tears which had seized before now began to pour down my face. My vision blurred as I recalled the sting of the slap on my cheek, but I noticed a pause in her steps as her gaze turned back to me. A flicker of hope sparked within me. Maybe it wasn't over as I thought; maybe I still had a chance to keep my job. But the words that left the secretary's lips shattered the little hope I had.

"And yeah, what was I even saying? You don't have anything. All of your belongings, every single thing, are the company's property. And currently, you're trespassing. Guards, throw her out," she commanded. In that moment, I felt a grasp on my arm.

As one of the guards tightened his grip, forcing me forward.

"Please... no! Just please listen to me. Please hear me out, Mrs. Smith..." I pleaded, but my words seemed to have little effect. Each and every employee of the company glared at me as I was dragged towards the company doorstep, a forceful push from the bodyguard almost caused me to fall into the street. My hand wrapped around my stomach as I stumbled, scraping my hands against the ground.

"Hey, what do you think you're doing?!" A woman shouted, rushing to my aid to help me up as she scolded the bodyguard.

But that was not what I needed at that moment; she was only making things worse. I couldn't lose my job-it was the only livelihood I had.

"Are you alright, dear? I hope he didn't hurt you..." I heard the woman ask, but her words felt like a distant murmur to my ears. I didn't realize when I had gotten back on my feet. My legs trembled as I tried taking small steps. Glancing back at the company, I distanced myself further. It was already evening, with the sun set and the street turning dark.

My hands remained wrapped around my stomach, feeling a slight glimpse of pain. The doctor had just informed me yesterday that I was one month pregnant.

This was supposed to be a happy time, but why did it feel like my world was only crashing down even more? Was I really going to bring the baby into a world I couldn't hold together?

Why would Jack do this to me? His parents had never liked me from the very beginning; I had even heard his mother gossiping and saying horrible things about me.

But Jack was always there. He had always defended me, and now, after five years of being together, he said this. What about all the words, the hope? "Don't worry, Susan. Once I get this job, we'll get married and have a lovely family..." he had said, right? So, what happened all of a sudden?

I found myself standing at my house doorstep as I slowly made my way in.

The house only seemed to bring back memories of Jack and me-the lovely ones and the bad. Now, all that remained were the shattered pieces of our broken dreams. We had rented this house together and had even started saving money to buy our own. But yeah, that wasn't happening anymore now, was it?

Wiping the little tears that crumbled, I took the stairs as I approached my room, grasping the doorknob as I opened the door. Walking in, my gaze rose, but what I saw left me pale.

"Who... are you?" I questioned, catching sight of a lady laying on my and Jack's bed.

A creak from the bathroom door made me turn as I caught sight of Jack stepping out, a towel wrapped around his hips. His eyes met mine in an instant, and they widened.

Chapter 2 Billionaire mistress

"Jack?" Seeing him standing right in front of me was something I would say was a lie, but yet I couldn't deny my eyes.

I thought he was out of town. Wait, was he back? Was he here to fix things, to tell me that he never meant all he had said back then to me on the phone?

Was I right in the end?

"Who is she, babe?" A snap from my thoughts as I heard the lady lying in the bed question, directing her attention at me.

But wait, what did she just call Jack? Babe?

"What's going on here, Jack?" I asked, coming to the real fact that stood before me-a stranger was lying in our bed, and yet she had the audacity to address Jack as babe?

But why wasn't Jack saying anything? All he did was stand there, glaring at me.

"I can explain, Susan," Jack said, breaking the silence that echoed from his side, his gaze which had dropped earlier rising to meet mine back.

"What do you mean you can explain?" What was he saying? All I wanted was for him to tell this stranger to leave our house.

At that moment, I caught the lady getting up from the bed. My face paled as I took in her big belly, which showed she was pregnant.

"I am sorry, Susan. She is pregnant with my child. I know this may sound--" he was saying.

"Wait, what?" I cut in. Jack's words left a stun on me. My legs trembled as they tried to maintain the slight balance they could.

"What did you just say, Jack?" I questioned, hoping to confirm his words. This must be a mishearing of mine, right?

"You heard him right, lady. So now, who the hell are you, and what do you think you're doing in our house?" the lady snapped.

"Your house?" I scoffed.

This time, my legs found their way approaching Jack's side, my hands holding his wrist as my eyes met his.

"Tell me, Jack. What is she saying? I mean, what are you saying? What do you mean she is pregnant with your... you are joking, right, Jack? I mean, this must all be just a joke-the call, me seeing you here, this lady claiming to have your child-you're just acting another silly prank of yours, right, Jack?" I uttered.

He always played such jokes, so I could only hope this was one of them, but his expression said otherwise.

His hands flung mine away in a blink. "It is all true, Susan. It's over between you and I, and yeah, she is carrying my child," he confirmed.

My legs screeched as I almost stumbled back, my back hitting against the wall. The tears flowed down my eyes blurring my sight.

"What are you saying, leave? This is my house; I won't leave," I protested, but instead noticed a scoff from Jack. "Your house?" he questioned. "I think you are forgetting that I paid the most rent here... now leave!"

It felt like a dream I would never have wished to have as I watched Jack drag me out of the room. His eyes darkened in those moments as he led me down the stairs.

"You can't do this, Jack ! Let me go; you're hurting me!" I shouted, but his grasp only grew stronger. I could feel my wrist bangles breaking as some grazed my skin.

He flung me outside the house, my body brushing against the floor. Those eyes looked at me with disgust as he shut the door behind me.

I tried managing a step, my hands hitting against the door. "Jack please, don't do this! Jack, how could you just do this to me? Let me in, Jack, just let me in now!" I kept slamming my hands against the door, but received no response. It felt like my whole self was shattering into a million pieces as I took in the sight of it all.

Making my way, I left the house, walking along the road. My legs gave up as I found myself stumbling on the ground, a loud thunder striking nearby. My hands clenched into fists as I hit them against the floor. "Why?!" I yelled, my voice echoing around the silent street with more thunder crashing.

Biting my knuckle, I hit harder, having no idea when I had injured my wrist, only to gaze upon droplets of blood dripping down. But that did little to the betrayal Jack had inflicted upon me.

I stood up, my legs stained with the muddy road, the universe was probably mocking me with the rain.

I was walking down the street when a loud buzz of music caught my attention. Turning to the side of the music, I found myself near a bar club, the music and murmurs of the patrons echoing through the air.

Making my way to the bartender, I cracked, "A drink," as the bartender left a nod, pouring wine into a glass and handing it over to me.

Gazing into the glass, my eyes glued to the wine in it, I knew this wasn't right, taking this with my condition, but what could I do? This was too much for me to just take in. I downed the glass of wine in a blink. "Another," I ordered, as he, the bartender, poured another in no time, and I downed that as well.

A sharp pain kicked in as my vision blurred. I tried standing up after tipping the bartender with the last dime I had on me. It felt like everything had split into two as I made my way, attempting to retrace my steps.

Finding myself back on the road with nowhere to go, the rain still poured, drenching my clothes further. A gaze at my bleeding wrist, which had been washed away by the rain.

"Just like that, it's over. But what is going to wash the pain I feel deep inside?" I muttered to myself.

Why was I still even alive? I mean, I'd be better off dead. I have no one anymore. How do I plan on raising this baby with no house to stay in, no food, no work? I shouldn't bring the poor child to suffer in this world. I have no right to do that.

Taking a step, I made my way to the road. My ears caught a loud, sharp horn as a car's headlights blinded me at that very moment.

Chapter 3 Billionaire mistress

The car tires screeched loudly as it came to a stop. Inches away from my side. It felt like even death wished to reject me too. I witnessed a man step out of the car. I could hardly get a proper vision of him and what he was saying, but all I noticed was his hands reaching out, as he held onto my hands, helping me back up.

"Who are you?" I managed a word from my staggering state as, in a blink, he led me inside his car, shutting the car door as he sat at the front seat. His gaze returned back to me with a weird smile. Somehow, in that moment, I felt, why not? But even so, I had little idea who he was, yet I was unable to do anything but glare.

Why did I have to drink so much?

He started his car engine, driving as we left the surroundings. I tried taking a proper seat, only to stumble down on the car seat. My eyes shut as darkness invaded.

A sharp light pierced in as I slowly opened my eyes back. A glance around the area revealed I was inside a building. Beside me was the stranger with his weird smile still finding its way onto his lips.

He led me up the stairs into a room I had no idea of.

"Now, rest," were the only words I heard him say, or was able to hear. Yet, his eyes still remained glued on me. My hand brushed his cheek, trying to feel and take in the figure of his face-something my blurred vision found hard to do.

In an instant, he leaned in for a tender kiss, pressing his lips on mine. My eyes fluttered closed, my body betraying me as they hummed for more.

As the night gave way for the morning dawn, exhausted and satiated, I woke up to an alarm buzz. I felt a sharp sting as I tried processing last night's incident. My eyes widened when I caught sight of a complete stranger laying on the bed beside me, half-naked.

"What happened? What did I do?" I muttered in a whisper, trying to process the whole situation that glared at me.

Really, how could I have slept with a stranger? Why did I have to drink so much last night?

A flinch from the man caused a jolt in me as I watched him yawn slightly, his eyes fluttering open as they met mine.

"You're awake," he smirked, standing up to his feet. His eyes showed no sign of remorse or regret.

I mean, I admit I was drunk last night, but he surely wasn't. How could he just take advantage of me like that and not show any sign of remorse?

"Take this and leave my mansion soon. I don't accept visitors much," I heard him say, throwing a bunch of cash at me.

Wait, did he think of me as one of those?

This felt like a shard of glass piercing deep into the open wounds from Jack's betrayal. The last thing I saw-my dignity had just been snatched away from me.

"How dare you think of me as such!" I snapped, standing up to my feet as I wrapped the bedsheet around myself. "You took advantage of me last night! I will make sure you're arrested; you will pay for your actions!" I threatened, but instead, a pale look came upon me when I witnessed the stranger chuckling out loud as he let out a sigh after.

"Oh, you must be one of those, right? Thinking, 'Oh wow, he's a billionaire. I can't just let him go like that.' Then you play your games, getting him tangled up in your shit. But I tell you, I'm not among those fools, and I don't waste my time the way you do. Take the money and leave quietly, or I'll have my guards do the talking-your call," he said.

But how dared he talk to me like that after what he did, threatening to throw me out? And to hell with his money! I grasped the bunch of money he had tossed at me, flinging it back at him.

"I don't need your money, you scoundrel!" I exclaimed.

Wearing my remaining clothes, I grabbed my phone, which I found on the nightstand. Stepping out of his room, he only glared at me with that weird smirk of his.

Walking down the stairs, my eyes couldn't deny the lavish halls and the gilded designs on the walls with paintings I knew of great worth on his walls. Many maids were walking around, tidying up each area.

"So he was rich, but that didn't give him the right to treat me like this. I will make sure he pays for snatching away my last shred of dignity and taking advantage of my drunken state. He will pay," I muttered to myself.

I made my way outside his mansion gate when, in that moment, a buzz drew my attention back to my phone. Checking the caller ID, it displayed "Luxor Enterprises."

Wait, this was the same company I had tried to apply for last month. It was my dream company, one I had wished to work for since my college days. I had lost all hope, but why were they calling me now?

I hastily picked up the call, placing the phone on my ear.

"Good day, Ms. Susan. I hope you received our email. We'll surely be expecting your presence today to see what you have to offer our company," a woman's voice said. The call hung up before I could even utter another word.

"But wait, she mentioned an email. They sent an email?"

I opened my phone, checking my email, only to come across the message sent to me since yesterday around the morning hours.

Clicking on it, it read, "Congrats, Ms. Susan, you have been among the few selected for the interview at our company. We expect your presence tomorrow at exactly 9 AM for the presentation of what you have in store for our company."

How could I have missed this email yesterday? Just how? But I couldn't deny the fact that yesterday was a day I wished so much to let go of, losing all that seemed to matter to me. Would I have even been able to give a care to my phone?

But now, receiving this call, my eyes checked the time. It read 8 AM. I only had one hour before the interview commenced. I had to find a way to get there immediately.

Taking the shortest route I could come across, I made my way to the company, arriving there at 9:30 AM. I hurried to the receptionist, gasping for breath as I tried to maintain a proper stance.

"Please, can you..." I began.

"Please, where is the interview room? I am here for the interview," I clarified.

I watched the receptionist's gaze sharpen as she let out an "oh." Really, I just hoped I wasn't late.

"Follow me, please," she said, standing up from her seat as she led me further into the building. We arrived at a room.

"You may go in, ma'am. They will attend to you," she directed, turning back from my side.

My legs trembled as my feet went cold, just gazing at the interview room a glance away.

"I can do this," I muttered to myself, hoping to make my way into the room, but a creak from the room door halted my footsteps as I caught sight of some people stepping out.

"I can't believe I just got the interview!" I heard one exclaim out loud, with the others shaking her head.

Maybe they were contesting for some other positions, I thought, hoping to congratulate the lady as well, but the words that left her lips after that left me feeling pale.

"I am now the new secretary to the CEO. I can't wait to tell everybody!" she added, saying.

That was the same position I applied for. How could she? This can't be right.
