You Revive Me

Mariah had been on duty for the past 32 hours. She had little to no sleep and God knows when was the last time she ate because even she does not remember eating anything except a chocolate protein bar during her round break.

Being a doctor is already exhausting but being a resident is worst of all. The only thing that's been keeping her alive is her colleague and best friend Blaire and maybe some coffee too that she has been devouring for the past 3 hours. It's not like she doesn't love her job. She loves it. It's what she has been wanting to do her whole life.

She always thought of herself as a side character. Not having a fair skin or a perfect body, just a brunette with pitch black eyes and a bunny smile. Sometimes she would have to wear glasses to look a little mature as her baby face was of no help. She may not be the main character we see in movies but she's kind. Yes, she's kind and humble. She always envied those girls in the movies that had everyone head over heels for them but she knew that if she had to be likeable she needs to be kind.

She never had someone who loved her truly. Her parents were busy always busy fighting and her sister never cared for her. She was bullied by others for being fat when she was young. She tried to loose weight and achieved but the trauma was still there and even after everything she had gone through, she never complained nor did she blame or was rude to anyone. She's a great doctor who worked her ass off to get where she is right now but at this moment, she's just a human with no sleep and just wants to go home. After an hour, she is allowed to leave.

"I cannot wait to go home ,have a shower and then go straight to bed," Mariah speaks with excitement in her voice.

"Don't forget to eat before going to bed. You've been chugging down that coffee for too long.", Blaire says with concern.

"Yes I will make sure of that! Now off I go and off you go too. Now it's your time to chug that coffee down your throat", Mariah says with a grin on her face.

She knows that Blaire in on night shift today and will be handling everything alone. Blaire laughs and says her goodbye.

"Hope you have a good night Buddie!"

It is currently 2 am and there is no one to be seen on the streets. It's dark so she decides to take a taxi instead of walking home as she usually does. She sits in the taxi as soon as the taxi arrives and decides to stop by the convenience store near her apartment so she could restock her refrigerator that has been empty for days now.

She arrives at the store, buys some vegetables, snacks and drinks. After paying for all those things when she walks outside the store, she is just confused as she cannot find the taxi anywhere.

" Where did he go? Maybe there was an emergency so he just left but he should've at least taken the fare before leaving ", Mariah thinks to herself.

She decides to walk as she's just 5 minutes away from home. She's thinking about his day today on the way and how she was glad to witness a triplets delivery today. She had delivered twins before but never in her life had she seen triplets.

As she's thinking, she hears a man groan by the side of the road. She thinks that he's drunk. But when she takes a closer look, she sees a man bleeding. A lot. And when you see a person bleeding that much, its not a good sign at all. She rushes towards him. She sees a young man with a handsome face. He's tall and has brown hair with light brown eyes. Brown is not a rare color but there was something in his eyes that made him different. Any girl would fall for him instantly but right now he's bleeding as hell and now is not the time to worship his beauty. Mariah as a doctor had to make sure he's okay.

"Sir! Excuse me Sir! Can you hear me? "Mariah asks to make sure he's conscious but he has lost a lot of blood and is too injured to speak.

She examines his body to find the bleeding site. She tears his shirt and is shocked to see a bullet wound in his abdomen. All that blood came from the bullet present in his abdomen.

Mariah hadn't seen a bullet wound before but she knew she had to do something before he went into cardiac arrest due to blood loss. She quickly takes her scarf that was wrapped around her neck and tried to stop the bleeding by pushing it hard against the injured area. Then she takes her phone out and calls for an ambulance right away.

"It's going to be okay! You'll be fine. Just stay with me, okay? Just stay with me!" Mariah takes breaths heavily as he sees the man groan in pain.

But shortly after, Mariah notices the man can't breath properly as there is not enough blood being pumped by his heart and is going under cardiac arrest. This is what she feared the most and there's no one around to help her. She screams for help but no one's around and the ambulance is taking too much time .She knows what she had to do. She starts performing CPR.

"Stay with me! You can't die on me like this. You're too young. You can't die like this," Mariah says as tears fall from his eyes onto his chest. After performing chest compressions for a while she sees that he has revived. The ambulance arrives at that exact moment and takes him to the hospital. Mariah goes along with them as she just can't leave him like that.

2 Days Later

Adam opens his eyes and realizes that he is in a hospital. The reality struck him hard and he tried to get up but failed as he felt the stabbing pain in his abdomen. He starts recalling what had happened to him after he got shot by his rival's man and how he had a car wreck. He had to run as his men still chased him. Adam remembers fainting after he had dodged them. But then he suddenly remembers the girl who performed CPR on him as he was bleeding to death.

He does not know for how long he has been in this hospital so he calls for a nurse and asks what had happened. When she tells him that he had been here for 2 days Adam loses his control. He can't be here. What if someone knew that he survived. What if Ariak knew he survived and was here at a local hospital. He would do anything to kill him.

"Do you want me to call someone from your family? Dr.Mariah found you on the street and she was the one who saved you. But we weren't able to find any of your belongings so we were couldn't contact anyone from your side," the nurse explains,

"Dr.Mariah has been the one checking up on you for two days. Let me page her to let her know that you're awake."

'I don't have time for this I need to get back to Mason so he knows that I'm alive and not dead'. Adam thinks to himself.

The nurse walks outside the door and Adam does not waste any time. He gets up clenching his stomach due to the pain but he endures it. Sorry Dr.Whoever saved my life but I need to get out of here right now. Adam leaves without getting caught by anyone. He's a mafia boss for a reason.

Mariah opens the door to Adam's room but finds no one there. The rooms empty. Adam left without meeting her.

"Guess he just left without saying goodbye and now I'll never know his name or why he got shot," Mariah sighs, "but at least I know he's fine now."

Adam's back in his mansion and he's furious. Someone tried to kill him. Adam has a lot of enemies and it was not a big deal that someone tried to kill him. But this time, he almost died if it wasn't for the doctor who saved him, he would have been long gone.

Adam was driving to one of the hotels he owned for a meeting but someone shot the tire of his car and he lost control of the it. He was injured but the real trouble was caused when a few men came running towards the car so Adam got out immediately. He instantly knew that all of this was planned by someone. He started running as the men chased him.

His head got injured in the car wreck but he kept running but when he looked back to see of they're still chasing him, he heard a gunshot and realized that one of them shot and the bullet went straight into his abdomen. It was not his first time getting shot.

He is a mafia boss and was used to getting shot but he didn't have hid men nor did he have Mason who would have protected him. He was all alone and his vision was also not helping him in this situation due to the his head injury still the bullet didn't stop him from running and he hid himself under a car. Thankfully he dodged them and after the men had left, he came out and saw a convenience store nearby so he started walking towards it.

He had to call Mason to aware him of his situation but his cell phone and all his belongings were left in the car. He was just a few minutes away from the convenience store but he fainted on his way there due to too much blood loss.

After that he only remembered those pitch black eyes as deep as the ocean. Yes, he remembered those eyes and he was glad that he won't be dying alone with no one by his side, it was a cold night but at least there was someone with him even if it was just a stranger. But he didn't die as Mariah was there to save him and he woke up in the hospital and not in hell.

He's alive and that is something to be feared. He's a killing machine right now. No one can stop him now he's capable of destroying anyone.

"I am going to kill whoever did this to you!" Mason grits his teeth in anger.

"No you won't do that Mason as I am going to kill him myself," Adam replies.

"But first we need to know who it was. Maybe it was Ariak. Maybe he is the one behind all this. That bastard!" Mason says in anger.

" If he's behind all this then I swear I am going to fucking end him this time", Adam says furiously, slamming the glass of water in his on the floor.

Adam was not the same he is now. He had a normal life. His father kept him away from all the dirty work he did in mafia industry. He was loved by his parents and was great in academics. But everything changed when Ariak betrayed his father.

Ariak was Adam's uncle but he was jealous. He was jealous of how much Adam's father was feared by everyone. No one dared to speak in front of him. He wanted to be the greatest mafia in all of history so he tried to kill his father. He wanted to kill every single person he loved. And what happened 5 years ago, forced Adam to become the ruthless mafia he is now.

After fleeing from the hospital, Adam has been taking care of his own wounds and Mason has been busy in finding the person behind the incident.

Adam enters a beautiful room with wooden walls and floor. In the middle of the room is a hospital bed with a nurse beside it cleaning the area. Adam dismisses her and she leaves the room. Adam sits on the chair beside the bed and holds the hand of the person lying on the bed.

"I'm fine,father. Don't worry, I won't die until I get my revenge. This time I won't hold back. I will kill him so mom can rest in peace and so you can be safe from your own brother." Adam speaks but no reply can heard.

Adam recalls the night, when his mom and dad went outside for a dinner but the breaks failed and the car fell down the hill. Five years ago, his mom died at the spot but his father survived with major head and spinal injuries. Adam was devastated when he was informed about the wreck.

He boarded the plane right away, left everything behind and never looked back again. He took on his father's business as his father wasn't able to walk, talk or even think due to the trauma. He was a as lifeless as a dead person. But Adam didn't let anyone know that his father survived or else Ariak would have made sure to kill him time. Adam kept his father hidden from everyone.

Mason was the only who knew. He was the one who helped Adam to handle everything including grief. He was always there for him like he had for Adam's father.

Mariah and Blaire stood behind Dr.Keith as he cut the ribbon for the inauguration of the new pediatrics department. It was of huge importance as there had been few to none hospitals for children in that area. Dr.Keith was the one who sponsored it. Everyone applauded as he cut the ribbon.

Media was present as well. The flashes of camera were all over the place. Everyone went inside to see the great new building. After the inauguration, Dr.Keith invited the staff for a party at his mansion. Mariah and Blaire had also been invited to the grand party. Mariah didn't want to go but Dr.Ketih convinced her. They had a strong bond as Mariah thought of Dr.Keith as her father. He always supported her.

Mariah got dressed and left for the party. She was stunned to see Dr.Keith's beautiful mansion. She entered the mansion and met Blaire. They met other staff as well and were having a great time. Mariah needed to go to the washroom so she asked one of the waiters and he told her that it was upstairs. So she gave her cell phone to Blaire and excused herself.

Adam was not able to find Ariak's location and he knew there was only one person who knew where he was. So he gathered his men and went looking for him. Mason stopped him as he thought Adam was still not in the condition to fight due to his previous injuries. But Adam was enraged and Mason knew he won't listen to anyone. They arrived at his mansion and saw that a party had been going on.

"The parties over people. Go home now," Mason yelled. But when people ignored his call he took out his gun and fired in the sky which made everyone scream.

"Told ya! You should have listened to me the first time. You're the one screaming now," Mason laughs.

Everyone ran out of the mansion screaming and scared for their life. Dr.Keith was respected by everyone but no one knew how he had made this luxurious mansion. From where he got all that money to build a pediatrics department.

People had no idea that he was secretly working for a mafia gang. Ariak's mafia gang. He knew no one would doubt him but there was more to him. He wanted power so he did all his dirty work under the radar.

Keith was standing in the middle of the stairway holding a gun as he knew Adam would eventually come looking for him.

"Where's Ariak?" Adam asks in anger.

" Do you think I'll tell you that easily," Keith laughs.

" We'll let you go. We don't have to do this. Just tell us where he is!" Mason replies.

"Oh eventually you'll have to let me go. You can't hurt me. And he won't stop at any cost. He is planning something bigger than you can ever imagine," Keith grins which makes Adam lose his mind.

Adam points a gun at him and puts his finger on the trigger as he is more than capable of hurting him and Keith knew that Adam was famous for being ruthless. Keith looks to his left and sees Mariah approaching him.

"What are you doing here Dr.Keith? You should be downstairs entertaining your guests," Mariah says smiling at him but her smile disappears as soon as she sees a gun in his hand. Keith grabs Mariah from her neck and holds the gun against her head.

"Let me go or else I'll kill her," Keith yells. His hands trembling with fear.

Mariah is terrified. She's too scared to speak, not because of the gun against her head but because the one holding it is the person she trusted the most. Tears start falling from her eyes. She can see men holding guns pointed towards her direction.

She doesn't know what to do or what to say. But then her eyes lay on the man standing downstairs and she realizes that he's the one she saw on the road with the bullet in his abdomen, the man she helped and the man she had been taking care of for two days in the hospital as there was no one to take care of him because they were not able to contact any of his family members, the person who left without saying goodbye. Mariah remembered all her patients and Adam was the one she found by miracle at the right time and right place, how can she not recognize him. But at this moment she was at the wrong place at the wrong time and she couldn't believe what she was seeing right now.

Adam on the other hand didn't recognize her. How could he recognize her when she only saw her eyes while bleeding to death and all he knew was the name of the doctor but he didn't know at this moment that she was Mariah. That she was the one who saved her.

The only thing Adam knew that the man standing beside him was the one who tried to kill him. He knew Ariak was the one who told Keith to send his men to kill Adam. But never in his wildest dreams Adam and Mariah would've thought of meeting each other like this. But they met again as they were meant to. The destiny brought them together.

Adam didn't give a shit if Keith killed someone and he would have shot him right there but he couldn't kill him as he wanted him alive. He wanted to know where Ariak was as he was up to no good. This time he wanted to end everything once and for all. Ariak ruined his life. He never go to say goodbye to his mother. His mother was killed in cold blood. And Ariak didn't stop there, as now he's after Adam, so he can get control of the mafia world.

"Okay just come down and we'll discuss everything," Mason spoke.

" No. I won't. Just move aside. Clear the path or she'll die because of you," Ketih says breathing heavily.

He has no men by his side right now as he dismissed all of them because he was having a party and he didn't wanted people to know his truth. The guards were all outside and ran for their life as soon as they heard the gunshot. Adam and his men cleared the stairway and let him come down. He still had a gun held against Mariah's head.

She came down along with him as she thought that the man holding her captive right now is not the Dr.Keith she knew and is able to do anything to her. Mariah trusted him with her life but never in her life she thought that he would be the one holding a gun against her head. Keith reaches for the door to open it and run outside to his car so he can flee from there but Adam shot him in the leg and the gun falls from Keith's hand.

He is struggling to stand straight but fails due to the pain and falls against the door. Mariah is free now and can easily run outside to save herself but she's terrified. The sound of the gunshot sent shivers down her spine. She knows that they'll shoot her too if she does anything stupid. So she just stands there, trembling in fear.

"Dr.Mariah! Dr.Mariah! Help me. I can't get up," Keith pleas to Mariah but she can still see the guns in their hand pointing at her. She is too afraid to even move an inch.

Mariah's eyes meet with Adam's eyes. Mariah doesn't dare to speak a word. Adam can see through her trembling eyes. He know that she's terrified after witnessing everything and he can see how she's standing by the doorway pretending to be strong but all she wants to do is run. He can see her eyes are full of tears.

Adam orders to take their guns down and asks his men to pick up Keith and put him in the car to bring him to his mansion so he can interrogate him about Ariak and his plans. He orders to bring Mariah too as he knows that Ariak would eventually come to know what happened and would come looking for anyone who witnessed all this and won't even blink once before killing.

Adam is skeptical about this girl, because Keith tried to kill her. Adam thinks to himself that maybe she's one of Ariak's gang and maybe she knows about his plans too so she takes her to his mansion as well. Mason asks Mariah to come with him but Mariah retreats.

Mariah doesn't know who these men are or what is their motive and what do they have to do with Keith. She has no idea what's happening and is too terrified to process after witnessing everything. She has so many questions in her head.

"Who...who are you people? Why are you doing all this? I am a doctor and I have done nothing. Why are you taking me with you? I was just here for....for the party," She sobs.

Mason explains that she has to come with them. Later or sooner Ariak's men would take her and she would be in danger and if she doesn't go with them, they'll have to take her forcefully. Mariah refuses as she doesn't want to go with them as she's already broken by what Dr.Keith just did. She is confused and just wants to go home. Adam heard everything and had enough of Keith's bullshit and is in no mood to hear a 'no' from any soul.

"Don't waste my fucking time. Do you want to come with us or would you like to get shot just like him? The choice is yours," Adam says slamming the wall with his fist right beside Mariah's head.

Mariah closes her eyes as he is so close to her and she thought he was going to hit him. Mariah got goosebumps in that moment. She nods and says she'll come. She takes a deep sigh when she realizes Adam isn't around anymore. Mariah is shocked and thinks that she should've never come to the party. She should've just stayed at home.

On their way ,Mason asks Mariah not to worry as they won't hurt her. But how could she trust him when the man she saved just a week ago threatened to kill her. They arrive at the mansion and Mason tells Adam that Keith is bleeding heavily if left untreated, then he'll die soon.

"You're a doctor, right? Treat him then." Adam says while staring at Mariah whose just standing beside the car in fear.

Adam lets her treat Keith and provides her everything. Adam needs Keith. He needs him to tell what is Ariak up to. He can't let him die. After treating Keith, Mason takes her to a room where she could wash herself up as she is covered with blood.

The mansion is as big a person can imagine. It's like a royal mansion with wide grounds and lots of cars and huge bedrooms. But Mariah is determined to leave this place as soon as possible. She needs to find a way to get out of here. She doesn't want to be around guns and strange people anymore. Mariah needs to call someone for help but she realizes that she gave her phone to Blaire before going to the washroom.

"Why can't you just take care of your own belongings for once? Why do have to be so stupid. But no matter what I need o escape as soon as possible," Mariah speaks to herself.

Mariah thinks that maybe Blaire would call police when she realizes that I'm missing and they would come get me but even she doesn't know where she is right now so how would anyone be able to find her. The mansion is far away from the city, in the middle of the woods and the security is insane. No one can ever break into this huge mansion.

As Mariah's searching for a way out, her eyes lay upon the window in the bedroom she's in. She takes a look at the window and tries to open it. She manages to open the window but she decides not to take this path as it's too high for her and even if she jumps she won't be able to walk. After sometime, Mariah hears footsteps approaching the room and she's scared to death.

The door opens and she sees Adam. Adam takes a few footsteps towards her while Mariah keeps taking footsteps backwards till she strikes with the wall. Adam puts his hand on the wall above Mariah's head which sends shiver down her spine. Adam's looking directly at her eyes. Mariah holds her breath as his gaze is making her tremble to the core but she doesn't want him to know.

" Where's Ariak? And what does he have to do with you?" Adam asks, without breaking the eye contact.

" I don't know what you're talking about. I was just there for the party. I haven't even heard that name before," Mariah replies after mustering up the courage to speak.

"Don't you fucking lie to me," Adam grabs Mariah by her neck which makes her whimper in pain.

"Don't try to act smart. I'll eventually know who you are and who you work for so don't play any games with me," Adam says with his dominating voice.

He releases his grip and sets her neck free. He can clearly see the bruise he left on her neck. Mariah coughs and breathes heavily.

" You'll be staying here until you tell me the truth yourself," Adam says as he leaves the room. He asks his men lock the door and guard it so she won't go anywhere.

Mariah breaks down and falls on the ground sobbing in tears. She never imagined that she would be paying such a big cost for just attending a party and for knowing Keith. Now she has to stay in this hell house for God know how many days.

Adam asks Mason to get all the details about Mariah and if she has any connections with someone in the mafia industry. Mason then tells Adam that Keith refuses Mariah's association with Ariak but Adam still isn't sure if he's telling the truth so he asks Mason to get him all the details so he can be sure.

Mason doesn't argue and knows that Adam is not the man to believe someone's words that easily. He has been like this since the accident that happened five years ago. He never trusted anyone after his mom died. But it's not his fault as his father's most trusted men left after the accident and joined Ariak.

He is ruthless because he has been hurt. Hurt by his own people. His own uncle is after him. How can he trust someone when his trust has been broken so many times. Mason understands Adam but he wants him to be happy. Adam is so blinded by revenge that he doesn't even know what happiness feels like, what love feels like. Ariak killed Adam from the inside. He's just living for revenge now.

Adam enters his fathers room and sits on the chair beside the bed as usual. He holds his father's hand and buries his face in it. He checks up on his father every day and seeing his father in vegetative condition, his hatred increases and he becomes more determined to destroy everyone.

On the other hand, Blaire called the police as soon as she heard the gunshot during the party. She left as she realized that is was not safe at the mansion anymore. She thought that Mariah left too after hearing the gunshot but she couldn't find her at her apartment and her phone was also not with her as she gave it to Blaire.

Blaire contacted police and they told her that no one was there at the mansion when they arrived. They checked each corner of that place but they found no one. The police knew Keith was Ariak's man and they tried to cover everything up so they won't get into trouble with the mafia gang. They released a statement saying that it was just a case of loot and nothing else.
