Freya sacrificed her happiness and youth just to save her sick mother's life and her family's hospital. She was forced to marry Brennan, a man who was in a three-month coma after having an accident. It was a contractual marriage, but it still bonded them together. Freya already resigned herself to never seeing her vegetative husband awake, but she was in for a surprise. On their wedding night, her vegetative husband suddenly stirred and opened his eyes. Freya almost had a heart attack! What did the future hold for them now that Brennan unexpectedly woke up? Were they going to stay married? Or would Brennan throw her out?

Chapter 1 Sold To A Vegetable

Early in the morning, the sun climbed on the horizon.

"Ouch..." Freya Walton slowly peeled her eyes open, her head pounding painfully. Only then did she find herself lying in a soft, big bed wearing nothing but a short, thin blanket.

Freya blinked in surprise when her vision cleared up. The room she woke up in was luxuriously decorated but unfamiliar.

She had no idea where she was.

Freya turned her head to her side in confusion.

There was a man lying right next to her.

He had a handsome face, with his prominent nose, arched eyebrows, and deep-set eyes.

But his thin lips were tightly pursed, which made him look cold and unapproachable.

Who on earth was he?

Why was he here? Why was she here?

Countless questions plagued Freya's mind. When her headache finally lightened up a little, she tried to recall the events of last night.

Yesterday, as soon as she walked out of the airport, she was attacked from behind.

She was instantly knocked out and didn't even get the chance to see her assailant.

Who was so bold as to kidnap her in broad daylight?

The man next to her was still motionless. With a trembling hand, Freya reached out her hand in front of his nose. Fortunately, he was still breathing.

Freya let out a sigh of relief, but she still had a ton of unanswered questions.

When she was wondering what she should do next, the bedroom door was suddenly pushed open from the outside and a strange girl strode in.

She smiled at Freya mockingly. "My dear sister, you're finally awake."

Freya squinted at her in confusion. "Sister? And you are...?"

"Hailey Walton, your younger sister." Hailey smiled sweetly, but her voice dripped with malice. "Dad finally let my mom move in. From now on, we'll be a happy family."

Freya's jaw went slack.

Her father hadn't divorced her mother yet.

Not long ago, her mother became seriously ill and fell into a coma.

It didn't take long for Freya to understand what Hailey meant.

It turned out that her father had been cheating on her mother long ago.

Now he even took the advantage of the fact that his wife was in a coma and let his mistress and illegitimate daughter move in.

Hailey covered her mouth and giggled. "By the way, Dad sold you to the Hayes family. Now, you're Brennan Hayes' wife. But unfortunately, he's a vegetable!"

Freya felt shocked, angry, sad, and pained-all at the same time. Every word Hailey said was like a knife to her heart. "What did you just say?"

Hailey shrugged indifferently. "I said, you're now married to Brennan. But he fell into a coma. None of the other rich girls want to marry him, so the opportunity is given to you. Look, he's right behind you. Aren't you happy?"

Freya was trembling all over in anger as she glared at Hailey. She leaped out of bed and shoved Hailey away, crying, "I don't believe you! Get out of my way! I'm going to see Dad!"

Unexpectedly, Hailey shoved Freya back onto the bed. "Look at you! You're practically naked. Do you think Dad would want to see you like this?"

Hailey snickered. She always regarded Freya as a thorn in her flesh. Because of Freya, she couldn't say that she was a Walton. Now that she finally had the chance, she had to seize every opportunity to make Freya's life miserable.

Freya winced in pain, but she was unwilling to give up. She quickly wrapped herself with the thin blanket and tried to walk out.

"If you leave this room, Dad will stop paying for your mother's medical expenses, and your mother's shabby Healthbridge Hospital will be closed down." Hailey's eyes flashed sinisterly as she spoke.

Freya immediately stopped in her tracks. She slowly turned around to look at Hailey in disbelief. "What did you say? What's going on with the hospital?"

Hailey lazily glanced at her manicured nails and explained, "After your mother passed out, the hospital encountered a serious financial problem. If you don't want to marry this stupid vegetable, just leave. The Hayes family will take back the money that they invested to save the hospital."

Freya's heart leaped to her throat.

Her mother had founded Healthbridge Hospital. It was her life's work.

She couldn't let it be close down.

Seeing that Freya was hesitating, Hailey sauntered toward her. "My dear sister, I heard that you were a top student at the medical school. Why don't you try to cure your vegetable of a husband? Otherwise..."

She looked Freya up and down and sneered coldly. "Otherwise, you'll never know the pleasure of mind-blowing sex."

These vicious words stabbed into Freya's heart.

She suddenly raised her head and said coldly, "You've crossed the line."

"What? Did I say something wrong?" Hailey widened her eyes, feigning an innocent expression. "What'd I do? I was just being honest-"

Hailey suddenly stopped speaking and her expression changed dramatically.

She started to tremble, and her demeanor was no longer arrogant. Instead, she looked scared.

She stared at something behind Freya.

"I-I'm sorry. I..."

Before Hailey could get another word out, she suddenly turned around and fled from the room.

Confused, Freya turned around to see what Hailey was looking at just now.

Brennan Hayes, the man who was supposed to be in a coma, had opened his eyes.

And his sharp eyes were fixed right on her.

Chapter 2 Comatose Husband Woke Up

The man had a pair of deep blue eyes, with the corners slightly raised. These beautiful eyes, rarely seen in men, exuded an intense sharpness and seemed oppressive at this moment.

As soon as Freya met his sharp gaze, she felt as though her heart stopped beating in her chest. She froze in place, like a deer caught in headlights.

The two held each other's gaze for what felt like an eternity.

After a while, Freya gradually realized that Brennan was still in a coma and had just opened his eyes involuntarily.

But this sort of behavior also meant that the chance he would wake up greatly increased.

Freya didn't know whether she should be happy or sad about this. After all, she was still reeling from everything that had happened since yesterday. She was kidnapped, woke up next to a stranger who turned out to be her vegetable of a husband, and found out that she had an illegitimate half-sister. As if that wasn't enough, she also found out that her mother's life's work was on the brink of collapse.

Everything had happened so quickly. She had to calm down and assess the current situation with a clear head.

Freya found some clothes from the wardrobe and put them on. After getting dressed, she plucked the courage to sit down next to Brennan.

Looking at the unconscious man with sharp eyes, she had mixed feelings.

She didn't expect that one day, her father would sell her to a vegetable in exchange for money.

And Brennan was just as pathetic as her.

Even though she had been studying abroad, she had heard about the Hayes family.

The Hayes family was one of the most powerful families in Leryport, with more than one hundred billion in assets.

It was said that their heir, Brennan Hayes, was a shrewd businessman, so cold and aloof that he seemed to have no human feelings.

After he took over the family business, he drove away all his incapable relatives from the older generation. In just a few years, he managed to seize complete control of Asiope Group, the largest group owned by the Hayes family.

In his journey to the top, he had offended many people because of his decisive and cruel style.

Not long ago, he was violently attacked, which was how he ended up in a coma.

Thinking of these things, Freya looked at him and sighed. "I guess we're both pathetic people," she murmured.

Just then, she heard a commotion outside the bedroom.

Frowning slightly, Freya got up and headed out.

She navigated her way through the villa. The bedrooms were on the second floor, and when she descended the stairs, she found her father Fletcher Walton and Hailey standing in the living room.

When Freya saw her heartless father, her blood boiled.

But before she could question him, Hailey tugged Fletcher's sleeve and asked, "Dad, do you remember what I said?"

"Yes, I do," Fletcher said with a nod.

Then he turned to look at Freya and feigned an apologetic smile. "Freya, I know that you've suffered a lot, and I know that you don't want to marry into the Hayes family-"

Staring at Fletcher, Freya cut him off. "Dad, did you arrange all this?"

Judging from Fletcher's behavior just now, Freya already knew the answer, but she needed to hear it from him.

She just couldn't believe that her own father would do this to her.

Her blunt questioning embarrassed Fletcher. He averted his gaze and fumbled, "What do you mean? I'm your father! How dare you talk to me like that?"

Freya sneered, "You don't deserve to be my father. You owed me and my mom!"

Since what was done was done, Fletcher dropped the act and immediately changed the topic. "I heard that Brennan opened his eyes just now?"

"What's that supposed to mean?" Freya was on high alert. She knew that Fletcher didn't bring this up because he cared about her.

Sure enough, he pretended to put on a gracious smile and said, "Freya, I let you marry into the Hayes family to get their investment. But I wasn't thinking straight at the time. Since you don't want this, then let Hailey take your place."

Freya could see the cunning look in his eyes.

She immediately understood what was going on.

When Hailey saw that Brennan had opened his eyes, she must've guessed he would wake up soon, so she told Fletcher. She wanted to become Mrs. Hayes.

Fletcher was being biased. While he let Freya marry a vegetable, he wanted Hailey to take her place now that Brennan might wake up.

Freya shook her head coldly. "I'm sorry. I've changed my mind. Marrying Brennan isn't such a bad idea."

As soon as she said this, both Hailey and Fletcher were shocked.

Hailey pointed at her and shouted anxiously, "Shame on you, Freya! You kept bitching about how you wanted to leave the Hayes family, and now you suddenly changed your mind. Obviously, you're just after their money!"

Fletcher also showed his true colors. "Freya, don't be stubborn. Get out of my sight before you ruin my good mood."

With a sneer, Freya provoked the two with a smirk. "Why would I want to give up my position as Mrs. Hayes? Brennan will have to give me half of his assets if we divorce. Why should I let this woman take my place?"

Just then, a deep and cold voice came from behind Freya.

"How dare you decide my marriage?"

Stunned, Freya whirled around.

Brennan, who had been lying motionless in bed just now, was standing at the stairs, looking down at them with his piercing eyes.

Brennan had woken up!

Chapter 3 Divorce

All the color drained from Hailey's face. She started to say in a trembling voice, "Brennan, I..."

Brennan took a deep breath, as though trying to suppress his anger. "Don't you dare call my name! You make me sick."

Hailey immediately shut her mouth. All of a sudden, the villa erupted in chaos.

As soon as they heard that Brennan was awake, the Hayes family's butler and a handful of medical staff rushed over and surrounded Brennan to examine his condition.

Seeing this, Hailey couldn't help but covet their wealth. Now, she was more determined than ever to become Mrs. Hayes.

She forced herself to calm down and started flattering Brennan. "Mr. Hayes, let me help you."

Hearing this, Brennan glanced at her coldly.

"Aren't you the one who disdainfully called me a vegetable just now? And that I could never have mind-blowing sex?"

Hailey froze. She looked absolutely terrified.

It turned out that he had overheard everything. But how? Wasn't he supposed to be in a coma?

Fletcher was so scared that his legs went limp. "This is all just a huge misunderstanding! I'm sure my daughter can explain-"

Brennan cut him off abruptly. "Get out!"

The bodyguards immediately sprang into action. They didn't give Fletcher and Hailey the chance to argue and grabbed the two by the collars. Before they could react, the bodyguards threw them out of the villa ruthlessly.

Freya watched them being tossed to the ground like trash with great pleasure. She was so busy gloating that she forgot to leave.

Suddenly, she felt a chilling gaze boring a hole on her back.

She shivered and slowly turned to look in the direction of the gaze.

As soon as she met Brennan's eyes, he asked icily, "Why are you still here?"

Clenching her fists so hard that her nails dug into her palms, Freya tried her best to calm down. She opened her mouth, but in the end, she didn't know how to answer him.

Seeing this, the butler intervened with a smile. "Sir, she's your new wife, Freya. Your grandfather chose for you."

Brennan looked down at the pure-looking girl in front of him. His handsome face was still cold.

He remembered that when he was about to wake up, he vaguely heard someone saying something like "sold her," "financial problem," and "the Hayes family's investment."

Then Brennan thought about what this woman said right before he spoke up-that she would take half of his assets when they divorced.

This woman was probably a materialistic bitch who would do anything for money.

Brennan's expression darkened.

Perhaps his grandfather was too old to discern good girls from bad. Why else would he have chosen him such a vain woman?

Brennan said coldly, "Get her out of my sight. I don't need a wife."

Freya's jaw dropped in disbelief.

Her first instinct was to protest.

After all, her father had completely given up on her.

If she couldn't get the investment from the Hayes family, Healthbridge Hospital would close down.

By then, what would happen to her mother, who was still seriously ill and unconscious?

"I can't go! I'm your wife. You can't just drive me away." In the end, Freya plucked up the courage to stand up to her new husband.

She raised her chin and locked eyes with Brennan, pretending to be brave.

Brennan looked back at her without saying anything. Then he took a step forward, forcing Freya to step back. Before she could say anything more, she heard him sneer loudly. "Is the money that important to you that you even dare to talk back at me?"

This was the first time Brennan had encountered a woman who dared to retort.

Brennan narrowed his eyes at Freya. Suddenly, his hand shot out and pinched her chin, forcing her to look up at him.

Their faces were mere inches away from each other.

Freya could see her reflection in his deep blue eyes, which were like the endless ocean, threatening to drown her at any given moment.

She felt her scalp tingling, her heart beating violently.

The man raised his voice and said gruffly, "No matter what you think, we're getting a divorce. You have no right to decide my marriage!"

The atmosphere in the whole villa was so tense that one could slice through it with a knife.

Shocked by Brennan's imposing manner, Freya found herself unable to speak a single word.

Just as they were in a stalemate, the door was suddenly pushed open.

A beautiful, middle-aged woman and an elderly man were standing by the door.

Slamming his cane on the floor, the old man roared, "You are not getting a divorce!"
