I gently opened my eyes as the bright light coming in from the window blinded me, I squinted and turn away from the window, I looked over to my mother who was holding me next to her, I took in the environment where I was and it drew to me that I was still at the hospital and then...
"Dad," I muttered as I raised my head from my mother's shoulder immediately. "Where is dad?" I asked her since I couldn't find him on the bed he was lying on before I fell asleep, I had cried so much last night, and right now my eyes sting.
"The doctors took him for a second surgery." My mother squeezed my hand gently and I looked into her eyes searching for the pain I saw last night but it was not there anymore. "He will be fine after this surgery Ivana, he awoke from a coma before now."
My eyes dilated, was it when I was asleep? My father came out of the coma, this was good news then, I couldn't say a word, I just embraced my mother closely and she gently patted my hair.
My eyes flickered to the doorway and I noticed Mrs. Jane coming in with a parked meal bag, I was surprised she was still here, I thought she had left before now.
I pulled away from my mother gently and looked at the elegant woman who put down the meal she had got for us. "Mrs. Jane..."
"Save your strength dear," She told me softly before turning to my mother. "Rose, you and Ivana need to eat something, everything would be alright and you need strength." She told them while touching my mother's shoulder softly.
I didn't have any appetite, I just wanted to see my father and know he was really alright, but looking at my mother I knew I had to eat and also be strong for her and my father.
I looked at Mrs. Jane and she nods at me, I took the food and opened it, it was one of my mother's favorite meals, I looked up at Mrs. Jane, she must truly know my mother so well to bring this, this was a meal that my mother eat even when she has no appetite for a meal.
"Mom, you have to eat." I gave her a spoonful and after a bit of hesitation she ate the food and I joined her, my mother has only spoken a few words since last night I had arrived, she was a woman of few words, but this time she had only cried and called my name twice and my father's name three times, she had said most words to the doctors and I have no idea if she had said a word to Mrs Jane.
After eating the meal bought by Mrs Jane my mother seemed to regain her strength after eating, she looked up at Mrs Jane. "Jane, you have been here for this long, don't you have something to take care of in the city?"
I was also curious about this, while I was at the mansion. Mrs Jane had always been busy with work and was not at home often. I also waited for her response.
Mrs Jane sat next to my mother and shook her head slowly. "I can't leave you this way," She took my mother's hand and stared into her eyes. "I have to cancel my schedules today, you have to be strong for me to leave." She flashed my mother a smile.
"How about your son, won't he be worried?" My mother said and I was shocked, my eyes dilated and I pulled my hand away from my mother's hand as my lips parted.
Does my mother know about Robin? My mother knew all these while that Mrs Jane has a son and I have felt guilty all these while because I have not said anything about it, thinking I will have to come back if they know I was living with a boy while at Mrs Jane's mansion,
I was indeed stupid, Mrs Jane was my mother's friend so she must be aware of her son, now I realize why my mother had not asked me anything related to that.
"Ivana, is there something wrong?" My mother's voice pulled me from my thoughts and I noticed they were both staring at me. I must have drawn their attention to me when I quickly pulled my hand away from my mother's.
I shook my head. "It is nothing." I got up from the chair and turned to clear the plates. "Mom, Mrs Jane, you both can continue your discussion, I will take some air outside and be right back," I told them and they nod in response as I left the room.
I walked outside the garden of the hospital. I hated the smell of the hospital, this was the first time I had been at the hospital, because of my hatred for the hospital I had always been careful not to hurt myself. I looked around the garden, it was beautiful, pretty flowers everywhere, but what I felt was that these were all planted for people who had only a few days to live in order for them to see the beauty before they die.
I sat down on a bench and leaned back to it as I stared up at the sky. Birds were flying up in the sky, they looked so free and happy. I always stare at them whenever I am sad. It always makes me a bit relieved. I was relieved as it stands now, my father had woken up and not only that, he would be okay.
"What are you staring at?"
I heard a voice behind me and I turned instantly as my eyes dilated to see the man staring at me with a grin, his eyes bored into mine and for a moment I thought I was dreaming or imagining things right now, but the voice spoke more softly this time.
"What were you staring at? He tilts his head to his side and leans closer to me and I blink before quickly shutting my eyes while I wait for the inevitable.
"What are you staring at?" The voice came again and the man who had I was surprised to see here leaned close to me, I shut my eyes immediately and waited for the inevitable.
Was he going to kiss me as he did in the car? His lips had already brushed on mine, that wasn't a real kiss, he was going to go for a real kiss before I clasped my lips with my hand. This time he was going to do it even when I shut my eyes.
I heard him laugh and I opened my eyes, he was mocking me right now, how foolish and childish. "What are you thinking this time, do you have one of those nasty imaginations in your head again?" He shook his head as he leaned back to the bench he sat on.
"Why are you here?" I asked him, I was not expecting to see Robin here, his mother was here and it wasn't long before we were just talking about him. Was he here to see me?
"Why else?" He turned his eyes at me again and I pressed my lips together, he was here to see me, he has a heart, this cold devil has a heart. A smile was beginning to creep up my face but it disappeared when he threw the last bomb, bursting my bubbles.
"I came to see my mother." He looked away from me again. "I made a promise to myself when I returned to Korea to always look at her face every day." He runs his hands through his hair as he looks up to the sky.
I traced his eyes and noticed he was also staring at the birds that were flying freely in the air, I scoffed. Do devils enjoy good things?
"I guess those were what you were staring at." He pointed up to the sky. "You think you can be as free as a bird just by staring at them?" His voice was stern and arrogant.
I furrowed my brows. "If you are here to annoy me, then I hope you can just leave, your mother is in the hospital, you can see her since you are here to see her." I pointed at the hospital, he should just go away, I am not even in a good mood now and he was here to ruin my peace.
A smile creeps upon his face. "I was about asking you to come to fly with me rather than staring at these birds." I looked at him immediately with big eyes. "But I see you don't want to." Robin got up and straightened his shirt. "Then..." He turned to leave and I held his shirt as he turned his eyes at me. "What?"
I stare up at the birds that were flying in the sky and then turn my eyes back to him, "Can we truly fly like the birds?" I asked like a complete idiot, if that would make me stop worrying about my father who was still undergoing some surgery then I would truly love it.
Robin gently sat next to me and stared at me intensely. "Look here, you can do whatever you want without wishing or imagining them, you can live as free as you want and as happy as you wish, but for now, come see your father."
I blinked, looking at him skeptically. "My father is still undergoing surgery," I told him softly but he stood up, putting his hand into his pocket. He looked at me for the first time with what seemed like warm eyes.
"Your father is okay now and wants to see you." He told me softly and I jerked up from the chair with my eyes wide open.
"What, my dad is awake?" I looked at him and without waiting for his response I made a run into the hospital and to the room the nurse had told me he had been moved to. I stopped at the door and tears brimmed in my eyes as I looked at the bed where my father lay with my mother by his side and I couldn't move.
"Ivana," My father called out softly and I took gentle steps towards him. "Ivana."
"Dad." I sobbed as I embraced him, not caring if he had some injury that would hurt. "Dad," I just kept on calling his name, unable to say another word, relief washed over me and my tears just couldn't stop falling. I didn't know what the doctor's final result was, but my father was awake and that was all that matters.
"I am so sorry Ivana." My father said as he gently wiped my tears with the tip of his thumb, this was when I glanced at him over.
"Are you truly okay dad? No complications? Can you walk? Do you still feel pain? You gave me a scare." I blurted that all out without hearing his response and began to cry again, the room was silent with only me sobbing loudly like a kid whose candy had been stolen.
"Your father is okay now." I heard my mother's voice and turned to look at her, she was no longer in tears, I guess she was also comforted by seeing him awake. "The doctor says he will be fine now, you don't have to worry much."
"Really?" I looked at my father and embraced him again. "I was scared dad, I don't want you to be at the hospital anymore, I don't like it here and I don't want any of you to be here too," I said softly and my mother pats my back and my father pats my hair gently.
"I promise you." My father said softly and the tears in my eyes seized. I always love when he says these words to me, my father is going to be fine and alright.
"Ivana," I heard my name from behind and turned to see Kate in tears as she ran over to us. "Mr Philip, are you alright?" Kate asked as she squatted close to him. My parents know Kate very well and she was like a family to us too.
My father raised his hands and wiped Kate's tears. "I am okay Kate."
"I was so scared when Ivana told me what had happened, I would have come last night late when I heard it, but no vehicles were coming this way that late, I had to take the first train heading this way this morning, you gave me a scare." She sobbed again and I smiled with tears in my eyes. Kate was the best friend anyone can get.
"Stop crying Kate, you and Ivana are just two crybabies." My father said and my mother patted Kate's hair gently, as kids we had always loved this, acting like two twin sisters. Kate's parents were not always at home so she sometimes came to stay over at our place. My parents treated her as their child.
Kate looked over at me and said softly. "Ivana, someone decided to come along." She told me and I thought she meant Robin since I had noticed him standing by the doorway when I embraced my father, but when I turned to look at the doorway, Robin was not alone, instead, he was having a glaring contest with none other than Hinn Carlos and I gasped.
I gasped and turned to Kate. "What is he doing here?" I whispered, but before I could hear Kate's response Hinn stepped in holding a flower in his hands.
"Sir, I heard what happened, I am Ivana's friend and stopped by to see you." He told my father and I pressed my lips together when he put down the flower on his hand on the table.
"Why does he have a flower in his hand?" I asked Kate in a whisper and she shrugged and whispered in my ears.
"I told him it was stupid to come to visit a man with a flower and he said it is the French ways, also that he could give it to you instead, but I guess he is embarrassed now and can't do that." Kate, who was in tears a few minutes ago, sniggered and I couldn't help but join her. Hinn was just so adorable, unlike Robin...
I paused in my thoughts when I looked over at Robin and noticed he had his hands across his chest and was staring at me coldly, I rolled my eyes when he had said those words about doing what I wanted without wishing at the field I had thought of him in a new light, but I can see people don't change easily.
"Ivana," Hinn called out and glanced up at him, seeing he was waving at me. I returned it with a smile on my face. I glanced over at my father and mother who were waiting for me to tell them who this handsome man was.
"Dad, mom, this is Hinn Carlos," My mother's lips parted as she glanced at Hinn again. She had often heard me mention his name like a rhythm whenever I came back from watching his show and she had heard me praise him so much.
"Yes mom," I clarified her doubts even when I didn't hear her say a word. "It is Hinn Carlos," I told her and glanced over my shoulder to see Robin whose brow was raised. I was sure he was also curious, just as curious as Hinn who was also staring at me with big eyes.
"Oh, you are the Hinn Carlos my daughter praises so much." My father broke the silence, looking at Hinn with a glint in his eyes. I am sure he has already taken a liking to this young man, who wouldn't fall in love with Hinn's cuteness.
"Oh, I didn't know she spoke fondly of me that way." Hinn touched the back of his hair and flashed me those cute smiles. I smiled shyly as I could see the look on my mother who was also beaming as she squeezed my hands gently. I felt embarrassed.
My mother has heard me glorify Hinn Carlos, she knew how I even wanted to write a love story about me and Hinn Carlos living happily ever after and now she was amused by my cheekiness.
"Thank you for the flowers, but I think this should be for a girl since I am an elderly man already." My father told him with a chuckle and Hinn scratched the back of his hair and picked the flower up with a smile, then he glanced at me and my pupils dilated.
I could already tell what he was about to do now and my inner goddess roared a big NO!
"Wait for it," Kate whispered to me and I squinted, but the foolish Hinn smiled and turned to my parents.
"Then, can I give this to your daughter?" He asked and I hit my hand on my forehead, burying my face to the ground. How did a hospital become a romantic ground for Hinn Carlos?
I heard Robin scoff before I could hear my parents' response to Hinn Carlos, and we all turned our eyes to look at him. "Mr Philip should be resting now as he had just undergone surgery not quite long, why are you both bothering him with your childish act, you can go outside if you are here to play a romance drama." He said coldly but his eyes were on me, like that of a devil.
Who made Robin a doctor? I rolled my eyes and Hinn put down the flower.
"Mr Philip, I am sorry, I should better leave you to rest, I am glad that you are okay now." He told my father who nodded and my mother pulled the quilt over his shoulder for him to rest.
Mrs Jane, who was not in the room this whole time, just came in with the doctor and the rest of us left the room for the elders.
Kate linked arms with me while Hinn Carlos walked beside us. I could hear Robin's footsteps behind us and it seemed like a ghost was glaring at me from behind and it felt so cold in this warm weather. If he was here to see his mother, shouldn't he have been in that room and not follow us out here.
Anyway, seeing that he told me about my father asking for me only means he had been here earlier than I imagined and must have seen his mother, I don't just understand Robin anymore. I shook my head, there was no time I understood him, he always changes like a chameleon.
"Why is Robin here?" Kate whispered, she had suddenly begun to whisper often after having the awareness of Robin's presence and I can't help but be amused. I thought she said she would no longer like him, but this was a body language of her obvious feelings for him.
"He told me he was here to see his mother, he said he made a promise to himself to see her face every day," I whispered. It seems Kate had also influenced me and we both looked like two roadside gossips.
When we got to the hospital garden, Hinn, who had been silent, stretched forth the flowers to me. "Here, have this." I glanced at the flower and hesitated.
"You didn't get these flowers for me, you got it for my father." I sputtered, folding my hands across my chest, I could see Kate staring at me quizzically.
"I had you in mind when I was buying then," Hinn admitted and a smile crept up my face but I quickly hid it. "Ivana, honestly, I know this isn't the right place to say this, but I have to tell you."
Hinn was serious and I gently put down my hands as I waited for what he wanted to say. I didn't look at Robin, but I could tell he was watching me, still with his dark devilish eyes.
"I felt sad when I heard from Kate that you were in tears last night because of your father's sudden accident, I felt so relieved now I saw your smiling face again and I couldn't get your smiling and beautiful face out of my mind after you rejected me." Hinn's eyes bored into mine and my heart was pounding like it was hit by a thunderstorm.
"Ivana, I can't accept your rejection, I truly love you, Ivana, please be my girlfriend." Hinn's last words were like lightning bolts that struck my heart and it seemed everything froze and only my heartbeat could be heard.
It was different from when he had told me he loved me in the practice room, it was different from when I had gazed at him and declared him my prince charming the first time I watched his show. I could no longer wait for that little boy who I had only run into once, just as Kate had told me, the little boy could be a grown man and may have a girlfriend, or never recognize me.
Right here, right now, I see only Hinn Carlos, he was the person who would light my world, he was the one who I love, the one who doesn't love Katherine but me.
"Will you be my girlfriend?" Hinn asked again and this time with a smile on his lips, like he already knows what my answer will be. I parted my lips to respond...
