Exquisite buildings, terrible traffic causing work ers to panic, car honking, drivers cursing, Crowd crossing, dogs barking, all comes to your mind is the city of dreams, New York City, one of the most populated cities in the world and the busiest city in the world, New York City is the home of busy workers but be introduced to the busiest girl that New York City has to offer ...
"Daina!" an old lady called out from her table.
Daina rushed out from the kitchen like a flash. She was a brown-skinned girl with long shiny blonde hair that almost touched her waist. She was small about five feet three but quick like lightning. She ran to the old woman and grabbed the ketchup bottle, squirting it gently onto the woman's spaghetti.
"There you go, Mrs Percy. Just the way you like it," Daina said with a kind smile.
"Oh thank you, darling," Mrs Percy said. "I can't ever tell ketchup and mustard apart these days."
"It's no problem," Daina replied kindly. Mrs Percy handed her a bunch of dollar bills with a big smile.
"Keep the change, sweetie," she said.
Daina looked at the money and shook her head. "No way, Mrs. Percy. You gave me fifty dollars! That's way too much for spaghetti."
"You need it more than I do," Mrs. Percy said softly. "We're all going to miss you, Daina."
"What about your grandson, Jeremy?" Daina asked. "He might want new toys!"
"Oh, he'll get more than toys when I'm gone," Mrs. Percy joked, pushing the money toward Daina again. "Now don't argue with me."
"Fine," Daina said with a smile. "Thank you, Mrs. Percy."
"You're such a good girl," Mrs. Percy said as Daina walked back into the kitchen.
Back in the kitchen, Daina peeked through the window and saw two boys around her age pushing a smaller boy against the wall. She opened the window fast.
"Hey! Trey, Andrew! Didn't you learn your lesson last time?" she shouted.
The two teens turned around.
"Aw man, I thought you were gone," Trey mumbled.
"Bad news. I'm still here," Daina said. "Now get outta here before I really get mad."
"Whatever! Go to hell, Daina," Andrew said as he and Trey walked off.
"Thanks, Daina," the little boy called out.
"Stay out of trouble, little man," she said, closing the window.
Just then, Daina's phone buzzed. It was a message from her mom:
"Come home. Everyone's waiting for you."
She stared at it for a second, sighed, and slipped the phone back into her pocket.
"Daina! What the hell are you doing?!" yelled Pedro, her boss, from across the kitchen. He was a strong Mexican man with a loud voice but a soft heart.
"Sorry, Mr. Pedro! I was just..."
"You came here to get your paycheck, not to work today!"
"I know," Daina said quickly. "But Cassidy couldn't keep up with the crowd, so I jumped in to help."
Pedro sighed. "Take off the apron, Daina."
She took it off slowly.
"I knew this day would come," Pedro said, his voice softer now. "But I didn't think it'd be so soon. I'm gonna miss you, kid."
"I'll still come by on breaks," Daina said with a warm smile.
"Your job's always safe here at Pedro's," he said, handing her an envelope.
Daina opened it and started counting. "Wait, this is a thousand dollars? That can't be right."
"It's no mistake," Pedro said.
"Mr. Pedro... I didn't earn this much."
"You earned even more," he said. "Think of it as a gift."
Daina's eyes filled with tears. She wrapped her arms around him in a tight hug.
"Thanks, Mr. Pedro."
Her phone buzzed again. Her mom was still messaging. Daina quickly grabbed her bike and walked outside. As she unlocked it, her eyes landed on a poster stuck to the wall. It showed a picture of a smiling blonde pregnant woman.
"Missing Person: Trisha James. $20,000 reward for information."
"She used to come to Pedro's," Daina whispered. "Such a sweet woman..."
Just then, a group of teenagers passed by, laughing loudly.
"Can you believe they're offering 20 grand?" one boy said. "If I were in that family, I'd go missing on purpose!"
His friends laughed.
"She's probably already dead," another boy said carelessly.
"Maybe she's in Vegas, gambling," a girl added.
"Duh, she was pregnant!" another girl snapped.
Daina's face dropped. Their words made her feel sick. She remembered the last time Trisha came by. She had been glowing with joy, talking to her boyfriend about baby names. They hadn't even done a scan-they wanted the baby's gender to be a surprise.
"I hope they find her," Daina said softly.
Just then, a car zoomed by and splashed dirty water all over her jeans.
"To hell with you!" Daina screamed, her hands balled into fists. It was her favorite jeans, and it's ruined.
She looked up. A shiny black Lamborghini was stuck in traffic. For once, she was glad New York traffic was so bad. She stormed over with a brick in her hand, ready to knock on the window.
But before she could speak, the back window rolled down.
And that's when she saw him.
A boy. His face looked like it was carved by angels. He had dark glasses on, but he pulled them down slowly, revealing deep blue eyes that looked like they could steal her soul. Daina stared for a moment, completely frozen.
Until...
"I don't have all day," the boy said in a bored voice, holding out some dollar bills.
Daina snapped back to reality.
"What the heck?!" she shouted. "You splashed mud all over me and didn't even stop to say sorry! And now you want to toss money at me like I'm some kind of beggar?"
People nearby turned to look.
"So what do you want?" the boy asked.
"An apology!" Daina yelled.
"I think the money will do," the boy said, dropping the money on the floor.
Daina's eyes burned with anger. She dropped the brick, bent down slowly... and the boy smirked. He thought he had won.
"Stupid traffic," he mumbled.
But before he could blink, Daina dumped a whole bucket of dirty water right on him!
The boy's face went from smug to soaked and shocked.
She tossed the wet money at him. "Keep the change."
The people nearby started laughing and cheering.
Daina walked away with her head high, her jeans still wet, but her pride untouched.

A corpse is seen lying on a sick bed, wrapped with a piece of cloth, her facial structure was wounded with horrible bruises and her pitch blonde hair looked perfect despite the madness, a figure is seen with her, a short bald man staring at the white wall watching his wristwatch to see if he was expecting somebody.
"Dr. Daryl," A deep voice drags his attention, he turns to see a tall muscular figure with dark shades coming closer to him.
"Johnstone didn't notice when you got in," Dr. Daryl said.
"Who was she?" Johnstone asked, standing beside the bed.
"Trisha James, dead for three weeks, her body found in the woods," Dr. Daryl replied.
"Are you sure it's a werewolf attack?" Johnstone asked and Dr. Daryl exposed the claw mark on Trisha's stomach to clarify his doubts.
"First werewolf attack in 6 years," Dr. Daryl stated.
"False data, they killed our man not less than a year ago," Johnstone corrected.
"That was out of defence, I was talking about unprovoked," Daryl countered and Johnstone laughed.
"Doctor, do you think these monsters need to have a reasonable motive to kill?" Johnstone asked.
"As dangerous as they may be, they don't hurt harmless people, I have studied them, human blood is not their natural taste it's considered a taboo to kill a human without just cause," Daryl explained.
"Let me pretend I believe you then what justification did a werewolf need to kill Trisha for? What did she do to break that scared code?" Johnstone asked.
"I think it's ritual purpose," Daryl said, Johnstone nods his head signaling him to go on "Trisha was pregnant, the baby, or what it is was taken with them," He explained.
"Not a reasonable motif but that will do" Johnstone chuckles.
"Do I dispose of the body in the valley for the cops to find?" Dr. Daryl asked.
"Hell no, what will the people say, our reason for being here is to minimize public turmoils, this will be another case of those missing people that are never found," Johnstone explained.
"Do we contact HQ, we have no evidence except this whisker," Daryl said handing Johnstone a small container with a strand of fur.
"Don't do anything stupid Doc, I know how to fish this animal," Johnstone replied.
Daina had managed to sneak her way into the house without alerting her mother and the other visitors, she was done showering and was putting on her clothes when the door swung open and her mother was behind it.
"I saw you climb through the window, mind explaining what that was for?" Diana's Mom asked.
"I got soaked by a car and I decided to change 'cause you would have driven me there wet or not and I don't want to make a bad first impression," Daina explained.
"It's more than that hon, you don't wanna go," Diana's Mom said joining her sitting on the bed "wanna talk about it"
"When I go who's gonna take care of you?" Daina asked, "What if the stroke comes again and what will you live on?" Daina's Mom was discharged two months ago from the hospital because of her stroke which forced her out of work.
"It's okay hon, the Doctor said I'm good to go, I will just be resting for a couple of weeks, and if the stroke should come again your Uncle Mason is there to help," Daina's Mom said cutting in "What do I always tell you, think positive, not negative" She added. "But honey I don't think that's what all this is about, go on tell Mama everything"
"Mom I feel like a fraud," Diana said "I feel like I don't deserve to go there, I feel like I'm someone's charity case and I feel really sick about it," She revealed.
"That's not true hon," Diana's Mom said "You earned your way into that school, you worked your butt off and aces that scholarship exams, if it's up to me you deserve mor,e" She added touching Daina's cheek "I am proud of you and your father would be so proud of you" Daina and her mom shared a hug.
Daina lost her Father, Jeffrey Smith a year ago and ever since then, Daina's mom, Mrs. Smith has been working overtime which contributed to her stroke and forced Daina to take multiple jobs to fend for the family.
"Thanks, Mo,m" Daina let out.
"Everyone is waiting for you, downstairs," Mrs. Smith said dragging her downstairs after the brief hug.
Daina came downstairs with eight eyes fixed on her, this was a small send-off party Mrs. Smith threw for Daina.
"Hi everyone," Daina said.
"There is the new Wolvestien High girl," A man in his middle age said hugging Daina.
"Uncle Mason stop, it's just Wolvestein" Daina said.
"You gonna always be playing those humble cards, huh? " Uncle Mason said.
"Mason, come help me with something," Mrs. Smith said as she and Mason left the scene giving the teenagers privacy.
"Can't believe you'll be joining these brats we used to hate on," Mariah, a red-haired girl, Daina's best friend said teasing her.
"I still hate them now and I have a feeling I would still hate them, nothing's gonna change," Daina said.
"That's what you think now, next second you will be drooling over those hot boys mark my words," Mariah said.
Alexander, a light-skinned boy, tall with a perfectly built body, cleared his throat after Mariah's comment and the ladies giggled, he held Daina's waist and pulled her into a kiss.
"You were saying some about hot boys?" Alexander asked.
"I didn't say nothing, Babe," Daina said.
"I'm sure gonna miss you," Alexander said.
"Sup Cos," Daina said fisting bombing her cousin, Tristian.
"My baby is living the dream," Tristian said pulling her into a hug.
"It's not a big deal man," Daina replied "It's just Wolvestien,"
"What kind of name Wolvestien?, Why did they even name it that?" Alexander said.
"Cause it's a werewolf sanctuary," Tristian replied.
"This is no such thing like Werewolves, come on man," Mariah countered.
"I'm telling you, Wolvestien High is not just a school, it's a werewolf sanctuary, who builds a school in the middle of the woods, no one, absolutely no one, most students there are werewolves," Tristian announced.
"And how do you know all these?" Alex asked.
"You know Lin right?" Tristian asked.
"Snob Lin?" Alex asked.
"Yes that Lin, turns out Lin took interest in a werewolf's girl and that werewolf constantly bullied him out of the school, he showed me a werewolf claws scar, His car was all clawed, and a girl went missing once and was found in the woods with claws marks, it is rumored the founding father Paul Martin was a werewolf and named the school Wolvestien High aka Werewolf sanctuary," Lin said capturing everyone's attention, he took a canned coke away from Mariah's hand, taking a sip from it.
"I think I heard something like that," Mariah said and Tristan began to laugh.
"You guys bought it?" Tristan said laughing hard.
"You were lying the whole time?" Alex said laughing.
"Y'all meet my cousin, professional liar," Daina said.
"It's a stupid conspiracy theory, there is no such thing as werewolves," Tristan said.
"But bro," Mariah said, "that story of that girl found in the woods is true, the autopsy said the wounds were too big to be a wolf and concluded it was a bear attack but ..."
"Kids, wrap it off we've got to go," Mrs. Smith said appearing with Mason.
"But Mom, I just got here" Daina protested.
"And you blame me for missing your party, you're lucky your friends waited for you," Mrs. Smith said.
"I didn't wait for her, Dad forced me to ..." Tristan said and His father, Mason punched him softly.
"Let's go, Missy," Mrs. Smith said "Mason come help me with her things," She added as she fled the scene with Mason.
"Daina I wish I could see you on the way there but I have football practice, and I'm already behind time," Alex said.
"It's alright," Daina said as he kissed her forehead hugging her, and wrapping a necklace around her neck, Daina looked down at the pendant, she was always drooling over it anytime she walked past the mall, He had noticed.
"I know you're about to complain about how expensive it is but you're worth every penny," Alex said and Daina pulled him into a warm kiss.
"I love you, Daina," Alex said.
"I love you too," Daina replied pulling him to a cozy embrace.
"See you all," Alex said about to leave.
"Alex wait up," Mariah said "Daina I can't come too, I got a bunch of homework, the ones I had three weeks to work on, wwll it's due tomorrow," Mariah said and Daina kept laughing, "I don't have something fancy to give but I want you to have this," Mariah said handing a notebook
"That's nice and very thoughtful of you," Daina said. "See you guys, take care of yourselves," Daina said hugging Mariah and Alex as they left the house.
"There's something off about Mariah," Tristian said.
"You never did like her Tris," Daina said.
"It's not about her," Tristan said.
"Sure, you never did like Alex or any of my friends or love as a whole," Daina said.
"I love you, Pops and Mama Jes, so I don't hate love, I don't like commitment" Tristan explained. "It's just gonna make you hurt"
"Blah blah blah next thing I know you're gonna put it in a song," Daina said and Tristian chuckled "Guess, this is just me thanking you for not being rude to Alex or Mariah," She said "Hope you have got something nice for me?" Daina asked.
"Maybe," Tristan said.
"This bag is too heavy," Mason said carrying Daina's luggage and Tris went to help, Daina attempted to help too but her mother held her by the arm.
"Get inside the car before you go off disappearing again," Mrs. Smith said and Daina turned around rolling her eyes.
"Okay but lemme go get something," Daina said.
"Alright thirty seconds Missy," Mrs. Smith said and Daina ran upstairs, she entered her mom's room, opened her drawer, and placed a thousand-dollar bill in it.
"You need it more than I do Mama," Daina said.
"Daina!!!!" Mrs. Smith's voice came raging from downstairs.
After a ride that felt like forever, with Mrs. Smith constantly throwing shots at Daina, Mason trying to calm her down and Tristan enjoying the entire show, the family finally arrived, Wolvestien High unveiled its hidden beauty as they drove past the gate, Daina's doubt of joining the school suddenly disappeared, her eyes were enticed with the architecture and her jaw was dropping, a little voice said to her 'I think you're gonna like it here' she smirked at that thought.
"Wow," Daina exclaimed.
"Get used to it, this is your new school now," Mason said.
Shortly Mason pulled over at the parking lot and everyone helped Diana get her luggage from the car, a tall woman, in her early 30s approached the family, she was on a fancy blazer and blouse, and she kept scanning Daina's face making her uncomfortable...
"Hi, I'm Mrs. Victoria" The woman introduced himself "I'm not good with faces are you the Smiths?" Victoria asked.
"Jessica Smith and this is my brother, Mason and my nephew Tristian" Mrs. Smith said excitedly "And this is the star girl," She said patting Diana's shoulder and she faked a smile.
"Okay, I'm an associate of Dr. Robertson, and he trusts me to welcome you to Wolvestien High," Victoria said shaking Daina's hand.
"Dr. Robertson?, The one who funded the scholarship program?" Daina asked.
"Yes and He has obligated me to be your guardian so Mrs. Smith I assure you your daughter is in safe hands," Victoria informed.
"So do every scholarship student receive this kind of treatment?" Tristan asked and his Father gave him the side eye. "What? I might wanna apply next year," he told his father.
"Don't listen to him, he's an idiot," Mason advised.
"It's alright, Dr. Robertson was pleased with your exam score and even wants to meet with you anytime soon, he calls Daina a prodigy and he is determined to ensure she attains her full potential he would have formally welcomed you but he is on a business trip," Victoria revealed. "Once again welcome to Wolvestien High," she added.
Daina was so marveled by the words coming out of Victoria's mouth that she became speechless, Victoria signaled two men and they took Daina's pieces of luggage.
"They will place it in your room," Victoria said.
"Can I have a second with my family I will join you soon," Daina requested.
"Okay," Victoria said giving her some privacy.
"Guess I'm gonna have to change your contact to prodigy" Tristian teased and Daina playfully punched him and hugged him.
"Always knew you were made for great things," Mason said hugging Daina.
"Daina, you made it baby, this is it, we're so proud of you," Mrs. Smith said hugging her, Tristian and Mason joined the hug. "I'm gonna miss my baby so much," Mrs. Smith said.
"It's just a minute drive and I'll be back every weekend plus you can ..." Daina's speech was immediately cut short.
"Don't ruin the moment" Mrs. Smith said.
"Alright, I'm gonna miss you guys a lot," Daina said, soon the family broke the group hug.
Tristian, Mrs. Smith, and Mason got into the car.
"Hey yo Tris you better not forget my gift" Daina yelled.
"I swear you're gonna get it tonight" Tristan yelled, Daina's family got into the car and Daina kept watching with a smile, they drove away and Daina kept waving until they were out of her sight, it was an emotional scene, Daina was fighting hard against her tears from escaping her eyes, okay Daina Smith put on your big girl pants, she said to herself.
**********
"This is where you would be staying" Victoria informed Daina handing her a key.
"Woah, this is nice," Daina said, she couldn't help but notice the two beds in the room, which made her question...
"Your roommate will be joining you shortly," Victoria said affirming her theory "I will have the staff help you arrange,"
"Thanks but I will be alright," Daina said with a pleasant smile.
"I want you to see me as a family, so if you need anything or someone to talk to or anything at all call me," Victoria said handing Daina a business card.
"Okay," Daina said and Victoria opened the door "Have a wonderful evening," Daina said.
"Have a blissful evening, Daina" Victoria said leaving.
"Man, I'm finally here," Daina said waving a sigh of relief "Worth all the hard work, worth all the pushing, worth everything, Worth everything Dad," Daina said.
"Oh my God, I'm gonna puke if you start to sing" a voice behind Daina let out, Daina turned around to see an angel in a yellow gown, her blue ocean eyes were screaming perfection, and her hair was carefully braided.
"Who are you?" Daina asked.
"Oh, you're that new girl," The girl said "Daina right?" She asked and Daina nodded affirmatively "I'm your roommate, Sheila," Sheila said shaking Daina.
"Nice to meet you," Daina said.
"You must be very wealthy 'cause of the way they treated you, is your Dad the president of some country or ..." Sheila stopped speaking when Daina began to laugh.
"It's quite the opposite, I'm here on scholarship" Daina revealed.
"Let's help you unpack," Sheila said helping Daina unpack her things, the girls engaged in minimal conversation like a favorite popstar, movies, and celebrities, they were having a good time, Sheila was funny and easy to talk to, she was a talkative who would blurt out the first thing in her mind, she was also a good listener.
"So what's the first misconception you had about Wolvestien?" Shelia asked.
"Before I got here my cousin was scaring me with these conspiracy theories that werewolves live here," Daina said laughing.
"Except they do," Shelia said in a serious tone and Daina's laughter faded "Every night, howls are heard, growl from around all the Conner, silent footsteps, patiently waiting for its next victim and no one knows who it is, it could be your biology teacher, your crush on the basketball team, could be me could be ... boo!!" Shelia said laughing.
"Why are you playing with me like that?" Daina said laughing. "Can't believe I fell for that"
"It's just a story we use to scare the newbies so welcome to Wolvestien," Sheila said.
Daina's phone buzzed, and she checked it, Mariah just sent her a message she tapped on it, and what she saw made her freeze with her jaw dropped, Sheila noticed.
"What's up?" Sheila asked and Daina showed her pictures of Mariah and Alex kissing. "Damn, he's hot," Shelia said.
"That's my boyfriend and my best friend" Daina informed. "She sent it to me"
"Yikes, sounds like you need a new best friend," Sheila said.
Diana stared at her screen as her blood boiled in rage, how could she? How could her best friend since middle school betray her this way, she felt like a fool for not taking Tristan's warning, and in a bit of she immediately started typing.
"What are you doing?" Sheila asked.
"Putting that bitch in her place," Daina said and Sheila snatched the phone from her hand. "Hey give that back," Daina shouted.
"Chill, girl, she sent you those pics so she would get a reaction from you, and if you do react you're making her win, leave her on read, ignore them like you don't a damn, it'll hurt them more," Sheila advised.
"You do have a point," Daina said letting out a sigh of relief "I don't just understand," she said.
"Let's get some air and get rid of the negative energy trust me you will feel better," Sheila said.
