Winning Back The Heart Of My Cool Ex-wife

Author: : Maure Ganeshanandam
Genre: Modern
During her three years of marriage with Brendan, Adeline had become as humble as dust itself. However, what she got in return wasn't love and affection, but endless indifference and disdain. Worse yet, when the woman in Brendan's heart suddenly showed up, he further distanced himself from her. Finally, Adeline couldn't stand it anymore and asked for a divorce. After all, why should she stay with such a cold, distant man? The next one would surely be better. Brendan watched as his ex-wife left with her luggage in tow. Suddenly, a thought occurred to him and he made a bet with his friends. "She'll definitely regret leaving and will come crawling back to me in no time." After hearing about this bet, Adeline sneered. "Dream on!" A few days later, Brendan ran into his ex-wife in a bar. It turned out she was celebrating her divorce. Not long after, he noticed that the damned woman seemed to have a new suitor. Brendan was starting to panic. The woman who had clung to him for three years suddenly didn't seem to give a damn about him. What was he going to do?

Chapter 1 How Dare You

Outside, lightning flashed and thunder rumbled. It had been raining the whole day.

Standing in front of the wardrobe, Adeline threw all her clothes into her suitcase, one after another.

The clock on the wall was ticking. It was past midnight already, but Brendan still hadn't come home.

Three years ago, Adeline married Brendan. However, Brendan had always been busy with work and went home very late every day. Adeline was always worried about him, so she'd stay up late, waiting for him to come home safely and then attending to his every need. In fact, she wouldn't go to bed until Brendan was asleep.

But today, things were different.

Just as Adeline zipped her suitcase shut, she heard heavy footsteps from behind her.

She slowly turned around and met Brendan's cold eyes, which were always calm and emotionless when he looked at her. She had a million things she wanted to say to him, but as she looked into his indifferent eyes, she found she could only say two words. "You're back."

Glancing at the packed luggage, Brendan snorted coldly. "Going on a trip? Where are you heading?"

Adeline didn't have the energy to explain. She just looked at him and said, "I've prepared some food for you. You can eat something first. After that, let's talk."

Earlier that afternoon, she had fainted and was sent to the hospital. The doctor gave her a check-up and ran some tests on her. Right after she got the examination report, she received the message from Tiffany.

So she went straight to Tiffany's apartment after leaving the hospital.

When she married into the Clemons family, Adeline knew that Tiffany, Brendan's sister-in-law, and Brendan went way back. She, Brendan, and Brendan's brother Lance practically grew up together and were childhood playmates.

Both Brendan and his brother ended up falling for Tiffany, but Tiffany chose Brendan's brother. Later, his brother got into an accident and was severely injured, which greatly affected his health. After he and Tiffany got married, they moved abroad.

A few days ago, Brendan's brother died from his poor health, so Brendan flew abroad to bring his brother's remains back. He also brought Tiffany back and even let her live in one of his apartments.

Of course, if anything happened to Tiffany, he'd be the first one to show up.

They always showed up in different places together, looking like a cozy couple, whereas Adeline, Brendan's actual wife, was like a stranger that had nothing to do with him.

Adeline always told herself that Tiffany was just Brendan's sister-in-law and that they wouldn't get into an inappropriate relationship.

However, she began to suspect that that wasn't the case when she received a photo from Tiffany. In the photo, Brendan was wearing an apron, cooking in the kitchen. Adeline and Brendan had been married for three years now, but he had never cooked for her.

With her heart in her throat, Adeline knocked on the door to Tiffany's apartment.

The door swung open, revealing a tall, cold man. "What're you doing here, Adeline?"

Brendan's tone was full of disgust, as if her sudden arrival had ruined his plan.

Behind him was Tiffany, who was wearing nothing but a bath towel, her wet hair draped around her shoulders.

Wide-eyed, Adeline looked at the scene in front of her in utter shock.

Why in the world would Tiffany show herself in front of a man in this way? Unless...

Tears welled up in Adeline's eyes as she raised her hand and slapped Brendan hard across the face.

"How dare you!"

Adeline thought she would be enraged, but to her surprise, she actually felt very calm.

Perhaps it was because she had expected to see something like this when she came here. Completely disappointed in him, she turned around and left. On her way home, she sent a message to Brendan.

"Come back home tonight. We need to talk."

Before Brendan came home, Adeline cooked a whole spread of dishes and then started packing her things.

When he arrived, Adeline walked out of the bedroom under his cold gaze.

Chapter 2 Just To Have A Baby

In the past, whenever Brendan came home from work, Adeline would always welcome him with a warm smile. She'd take his coat and asked about his day in a gentle voice. Even if she was in a bad mood that day, she'd always restrain her emotions and never lost her temper in front of him. Today, however, she looked at him coldly and her voice was chilling as ice.

Brendan noticed her change in demeanor, and he instantly knew that something was wrong.

He grabbed her arm and gazed into her cold, lifeless eyes.

"Are you mad at me, Adeline?"

Three years ago, Adeline's father made a series of bad business decisions. In the end, her family owed a lot of people a lot of money. Many loan sharks went to their house and threatened them, demanding their money back. In an effort to pay off their debts quickly, the Dawson family wanted to unite with the Clemons family. They made a deal over 20 years ago that their children were to be married when they grew up, so the Dawsons forced Adeline to marry Brendan in exchange for a generous dowry.

Although the Clemons family was very rich and powerful, Brendan was not exactly a man of morals.

And Adeline actually had someone special in her heart at the time. At first, she refused to marry into the Clemons family, but her father had sent away her mentally ill mother and used her as his bargaining chip. Thus, Adeline had no choice but to agree to the marriage.

Before the wedding, the Dawson family and the Clemons family had arranged for Adeline and Brendan to meet.

No matter how hard Adeline tried to resist, she was forced to come with them to the Clemons family home.

That day, the sun was shining brightly. When Brendan strode in, his eyes seemed somewhat lazy and indifferent. Despite it all, he was such a heartthrob!

The moment he walked in, Adeline's heart began to race. She didn't expect that the man she was betrothed to was none other than her secret crush of many years.

She broke into a nervous sweat and nearly exploded from joy. "Hello, I'm Adeline Dawson, your wife-to-be."

Sitting on the sofa with his slender legs crossed, Brendan sneered coldly. "You're Adeline, right? Let me make things clear for you. If my Grandpa hadn't been seriously ill and wanted to see me get married and have children, I wouldn't have agreed to this stupid marriage. The Clemons family might be able to help the Dawson family with their debts, but after we get married, I refuse to have anything to do with you. We'll only be a couple on paper. I won't love you. Your only task here is to give birth to the heir of the Clemons family. Do you understand?"

Seeing the coldness in his eyes, Adeline knew that he didn't like her.

But he was the man of her dreams.

And this was the only way she could get close to him.

So she married him, full of hope for the future.

She had thought that as long as she tried her best to please him, he would gradually warm up to her. Maybe he'd even come to love her.

However, it turned out that she was really stupid and naive.

In the past three years, she had devoted herself to him. She got up at four o'clock every morning to prepare him breakfast. She did everything for him, but in return, he treated her like a stranger.

He didn't remember her birthday. He wouldn't show up even during occasions where they needed to show up together. There was a time when she had a terrible stomachache and couldn't even stand up from the pain. She was sweating profusely and called him, to which he replied, "I'm very busy now. Don't call me if it's not important."

Then, without waiting for a response, he hung up.

She had no choice but to go to the hospital by herself. She signed the operation agreement by herself. After the operation, she hired a nurse to take care of her. When she was discharged from the hospital, she went home alone. Even after such an ordeal, Brendan had never even bothered to ask about her condition.

However, when it came to Tiffany, he knew everything about her.

Adeline was not a blockhead. She felt heartbroken when she found out about his disappointing behavior.

Raising her head, she locked eyes with him and asked in a low voice, "Brendan, do you think it's still worth it to maintain our marriage?"

"Do you regret marrying me?" It seemed that Brendan understood what she meant.

"Don't forget why you married me in the first place."

Adeline gritted her teeth. She remembered the reason very well.

Chapter 3 Fulfill Your Wish

Whenever they visited the Clemons family, Gerald Clemons, Brendan's grandfather, would urge them to have a baby as soon as possible.

And they tried. Adeline had taken lots of different kinds of medicines, and Brendan also worked very hard, trying to let her get pregnant.

There was a time when he would come home every night.

He would have sex with her, but only in an effort to complete the task of getting her pregnant.

Whenever they "made love", Adeline wouldn't feel any ounce of love from him. His attitude towards her was always indifferent.

It seemed that he wouldn't have even touched her if he wasn't under pressure from his family.

In fact, he had never even kissed her.

They had such "meaningless" sex countless times.

Yet she still didn't get pregnant.

Every time she'd come back to the Clemons family, she'd feel very uneasy, because she felt as though the Clemons saw her as nothing but a vessel to give birth to their heir.

Recently, she had been under a great deal of pressure and fainted from the stress. She was taken to the hospital to undergo a physical examination.

When she woke up, the doctor bore some bad news.

"Your uterus is defective. It won't be easy for you to get pregnant. Moreover, on the off chance that you do get pregnant, it'll be difficult to keep the baby. You should discuss this with your husband. Why not adopt a child instead? Or, you can also live your lives without children."

Not only was it difficult for her to get pregnant, she'd likely get a miscarriage if she did. In a word, she couldn't have a baby of her own...

The doctor's words echoed in Adeline's ears. She had never felt so helpless in her life. The Clemons would find out about this sooner or later.

Gerard had been urging her to have a baby ever since she married Brendan. If he found out that she was infertile, he would probably ask her to leave the Clemons family.

At the thought of this, her face turned pale.

She fell silent for a while before finally speaking up.

"Brendan, you've been sleeping with me just to fulfill your grandfather's wish, right?"

Brendan was a little stunned by her question and frowned tightly.

"Do you really have to ask?" he answered her question with another one of his own.

When he saw Adeline's bitter smile, he somehow fell silent.

From what he knew, Adeline had always been an obedient and submissive wife, but today she seemed to have changed into another person.

Lowering her eyes, she said, "Yes, I know it all too well. I know you've never liked me. In fact, you've always hated me. Being with me is torture for you."

The dim light illuminated her pale face.

Brendan could clearly see the coldness and firmness in Adeline's eyes.

"So from now on, you don't have to force yourself to be with me. Let's divorce. I'll fulfill your wish."

She would fulfill his wish.

She would fulfill their wish.

She didn't want to be the one to get in the way of Brendan's relationship with Tiffany, nor did she want to be the pathetic wife who tried her best to please her husband who didn't even love her.

There was no need for Brendan to do the most intimate thing with a woman he didn't love, especially while he loved someone else.

Sometimes, when he was drunk, he'd call that woman's name, which broke Adeline's heart.

Her marriage of three years was like a bad dream. Now that she had woken up, she didn't want to pretend anymore.

Brendan was surprised at first, and then looked at Adeline with unmasked disdain.

After they got married, she kept trying to please him, hoping that he would fall in love with her someday, but he had already warned her from the beginning.

He had warned her not to try and take anything that didn't belong to her.

Narrowing his dark eyes, he felt that Adeline was getting more and more insatiable. Just earlier that day, she even dared to slap him on the face!

Recalling the slap, his expression became even gloomier.

"Divorce?" he sneered. "Have you made up your mind?"

"Yes."

Without missing a beat, Adeline took out the divorce agreement from her bag and handed it to Brendan. "I've already signed it. Please sign it as well so we can take this to the court."

After that, she headed out of the house, suitcase in tow.

Brendan didn't expect that Adeline was serious.

He watched her leave, her petite figure receding in the distance, and said in a calm voice, "Don't come back ever again once you step out of this house."

Come back?

She had spent three years trying to please him. She took care of him wholeheartedly, but he treated her with indifference and coldness. Why would she ever want to come back and subject herself to such an unpleasant experience again?
