Chapter 1 Sign the Divorce Papers

Areiza was sitting on the ground, inside her room with her eyes fixed on her laptop. A few days ago, she had sent her medical thesis to a prestigious medical journal for review and she was waiting for a response from them. At that moment, she was feeling very nervous.

She clasped her hands together and muttered slowly... "Please let my thesis get selected... please God... please..."

It has been three years since Areiza came abroad for studies. All these years, Areiza has been working very hard on this thesis.

If her thesis can pass the review and be published successfully, she will be famous in the medical world, and graduate successfully, the most important thing is that she can finally go back to her country.

A life where she stops hoping for the things that were not going to happen...

As Areiza felt that she was going to die from anxiety and nervousness, she received an e-mail from that medical journal. Looking at the e-mail on the screen, she clicked on it with one eye open and one close and read the content...

"Congratulations, Miss Kensley your thesis has passed the review and soon be published in our medical journal."

After she finished reading the e-mail, she was so happy that she almost jumped twice on the spot. She looked at the e-mail again and again.

"My hard work finally gets selected..."

She jumped up and down with excitement, but when she calmed down, she realized that she couldn't find anyone to share her joy with, although she got married, in these three years, she and his husband met only once at the wedding, after that, her husband never called her again.

Before she left the country, her husband told her not to contact him unless it was urgent, and that his assistant would take care of her living expenses abroad.

Areiza knew her marriage to her husband was a done deal, he didn't love her, to be honest, he had a girl he loved before they got married, but his girlfriend gave up on marrying him because she had to follow her dreams of the opera and her husband, the Darren family, needed a wife and she was chosen.

She has to say yes, her mother is sick and needs medical bills, and Darren, who doesn't love her but encourages her to follow her dreams, comes to America to study medicine.

Areiza was sitting at her computer desk when suddenly her phone rang again. She looked at the caller ID on her phone and her eyes filled with shock and surprise...

It was a call from Darren. In their three years of marriage, it was the first time, that Darren had taken the initiative to call her. Looking at the caller ID on her phone, Areiza can't be able to describe the emotions in her heart.

She was feeling happy and excited. It was like she had been walking in the darkness for a long time and suddenly she saw a ray of light...

Areiza picked up the call and said slowly, "Hello."

"Have you received the e-mail?" On the other end of the phone, Darren's cold voice came into her ears. He did not even greet her and went straight to the point.

Did he know about my thesis and medical journal? Did he have paid attention to my progress secretly all these years? Did my efforts over these years didn't go in vain? He also cared about me, right? Even if it was only a bit... he cared about me. Areiza thought.

Thinking of this, a smile appeared on Areiza's face, and she was about to reply when her eyes fell on another e-mail in her inbox.

Areiza saw that it was an e-mail from Darren's lawyer and clicked on it. As soon as she did, the two-word "Divorce Agreement" came in front of her eyes...

Seeing these words, the happy smile on her face was replaced by a mocking smile.

Areiza Kensley, even after three years of pain, you still didn't realize that you had no place in his heart. He did not care about you. How long are you going to be a fool like this? She scolded herself in her mind.

However, no matter how much she scolds herself, she still can't be able to stop the unbearable pain in her heart...

How big a fool you are Areiza? How can you even think that he would care about anything related to you? You have no importance in his life. She mocked herself in her heart.

"Areiza, after you read the agreement, I want you to come back as soon as possible so that we can get divorced. Hallie is not in good health, and I want to fulfill her wish..."

Hallie, the girl who abandoned him and came back again? Took over his whole heart again.

Hearing his words, Areiza clenched her fist and tried her best to control her emotions. However, her heart was in so much pain, as if someone stabbing a knife in her heart.

She knows that he did not love her and sooner or later this will happen... But she hadn't expected that the first time they'd spoken in three years would be about the divorce.

Areiza saw no reason to refuse, and she was in no position to do so, as she spoke calmly,

"Fine. I'll be back as soon as I can."

River City International Airport...

As soon as Areiza got off the plane and was about to take a taxi to their house in the country she looked up and saw the picture of her husband proposing to Hallie on the big airport screen.

Arreaza's grip on the car door tightened, She hadn't even signed the contract yet and Darren couldn't wait to propose to another woman and put it up in the airport, he knew she would see it but he didn't care about her heart.

Areiza felt her heart bleed, her marriage to Darren was only known to a few family members, so the public didn't know that the hero was married.

Areiza sat in her car, for three years now she had been expecting Darren to turn his heart to her, knowing that Darren's family didn't accept Hallie either, she thought she still had a chance.

But reality pierced her heart like a sharp arrow, she couldn't afford to have illusions anymore, she wouldn't allow herself to be trapped like a fool in her woven dreams, back to reality, if she got away from Darren then all she had to do was work hard to earn money and then continue to pay for her mother's medical bills.

The car chugged along for half an hour before finally arriving at a building she called home, She had only slept in it for one day on her wedding night and the next day she was out of the country, she was a stranger to the place. Still, it was neat as if it had never been inhabited before, it seemed Darren hadn't lived here either and he hadn't missed her for a second.

He didn't even want to see the only thing that had to do with her.

Areiza carried her suitcase, She didn't expect to see Darren today, she just wanted to get a good night's sleep and meet Darren tomorrow to sign the divorce papers.

Areiza was about to go upstairs when she saw the headlights of a car in front of the villa, her heart skipped a nervous beat, was Darren back?

Before she could react the door to the room was pushed open from outside and a tall figure walked in, it was Darren, his black shirt framed his majestic body, and the perfect creases on his suit pants showed how sharp he was as a person, his face was even more three dimensional under the glistening light, it was perfect like a heavenly god, as soon as he walked in even the morning was hidden by his radiance.

Areiza felt her heartbeat faster, but she still succumbed to his charisma, Time hadn't diminished it, but rather added a touch of mature steadiness to him.

Areiza stood still, forgetting to speak until Darren's icy voice rang out. "Sign, I've brought the divorce papers."

Areiza felt as if ice water had been poured on her when she saw the paper documents handed to her, she could not wait for the floor to suddenly crack open so she could crawl underneath and cover her shame.

Areiza quickly took the paper and fished the pen out of her pocket without question, but Darren snatched the paper away.

He frowned, "Aren't you going to read the agreement?"

Areiza pursed her lips and replied, "There's no need, I know you must have everything ready for me even if I don't need it."

Darren nodded. "That's right, this house is yours as well, including some other apartments and properties, and I'll make sure you live without any burdens."

How thoughtful, Areiza thought sarcastically, but he had no idea that thoughtless tenderness hurt the most, and she didn't allow herself to sink any lower as she grabbed the paper once more and signed it forcefully.

"Anything else?" Areiza asked suspiciously as she looked at Darren, who was still standing in the living room without leaving, for she knew that Darren didn't live there.

"Tomorrow, you have to meet Hallie," Darren said with a blank face.

"Why do I have to?" Areiza didn't understand his request.

"Hallie is a nice girl and her condition won't allow her to be hurt anymore, so you have to let Hallie know that you were the one who initiated the divorce with me."

Areiza felt like a dead body in a game, but Darren was still whipping her mercilessly as if he didn't want to hurt her.

Areiza felt like she didn't have the strength to stand in front of Darren anymore, she had to get away from him as soon as possible, she closed her eyes and agreed to Darren's request.

"Please don't worry, I won't let you down tomorrow." With that, Areiza went upstairs.

Chapter 2 Meeting with my husband's girlfriend

Areiza went upstairs and soaked herself in the hot water, she knew the room was soundproofed and she let all her disguises out without a care, she cried her heart out in the tub but only the sound of the water answered her.

Everyone knew that Areiza was in love with Darren, but Darren was the only one who never cared, because his heart was only for Hallie, and he didn't care if anyone else lived or died.

I don't know how much time passed and Areiza realized she was running out of oxygen when she heard a knock at the door. Although she guessed it was Darren, she was still surprised by his arrival; his mission was over, shouldn't he be back with Hallie?

Areiza got up from the bathtub, she didn't want Darren to see her embarrassment, he wouldn't understand what was going on inside her, She didn't open the door, she leaned against the door and spoke, "Can I help you?"

Darren's brow furrowed, why was Areiza acting so erratically? And it looked like she didn't want to see him again. The thought irritated him, and he knocked on the door of the room again. "Open the door."

Areiza pulled the door open helplessly, luckily, she had quickly used concealer to hide the lousy look under her eyes, she saw that Darren's face looked bad, but he was the one who had filed for divorce! She hadn't lost her temper yet.

"Mr. Venzor, may I ask what else you need?" asked Areiza inwardly, rolling her eyes.

"You hate me?" Darren spoke coldly.

Areiza's mouth felt open, she didn't know how to answer this question. She loved him to the bone and now he interpreted that as hating him, but to be honest, it was like he hated her and now he was rubbing salt in her wounds. Areiza felt that she had suffered enough today, she didn't understand how Darren, who had always treated her badly, could still appear around her today like a ghost.

If it had been earlier, Areiza would have thought that it was Darren who had fallen in love with her, but just an hour ago she had signed the divorce papers on his orders.

There would never be another step between them.

Areiza looked at him and said with a blank expression, "If you don't mind, I'm going to bed, I've been on a plane for 12 hours and I'm very tired right now".

Darren pushed her hand away as if he hadn't heard her, he walked straight to the bedroom, removing his tie to reveal his firm muscles.

What was he going to do? Areiza watched his behavior in shock, her brain just couldn't comprehend what his actions meant right now after a day of mental warfare.

She had never been in the same room with Darren, not even on their wedding night, so how could he make her dreams come true after the divorce? Areiza's mind couldn't help but conjure up dirty images.

As if he finally realized his abnormal behavior, Darren finally explained briefly, "1, the guest room is not cleaned and it's not appropriate to wake up the maid so late; 2, I can't be late for tomorrow's meeting with Hallie."

Having said that, Darren stopped worrying about her and lay down on the sofa with his eyes closed.

Areiza couldn't help but think that she was still fantasizing about Darren. As you can imagine, no woman can sleep soundly with a flashy man lying in her room.

But Areiza was too tired to remember how many times she tossed and turned before she finally passed out.

****

The next day, Areiza woke up to find that Darren was no longer on the couch and that her pajamas were still on her. Nothing had happened.

Areiza looked at the clock and realized that it was almost time for their appointment, She hurriedly washed up and when she went downstairs, she noticed that Darren was fully dressed and had changed her clothes, not the same ones she had worn yesterday.

"Come on. It's about time." Darren saw her coming downstairs and put the newspaper down in his hand, he got up first and walked to the door while Areiza followed him silently.

The whole way they sat in the car like two strangers who didn't know each other, and Areiza felt like half her body was going to be unconscious when Darren's cold voice rang out.

"Hallie is very sensitive, I hope you've made a draft and are sure Hallie won't have any questions."

Areiza already felt like a warrior in armor, so Darren's words weren't as damaging anymore, and she turned to him with a smile, "I will".

Finally, they reached the restaurant where they were to meet, as she walked in with Darren, Hallie's excited voice came over, and the next second Hallie hugged her.

"Careful, you're still recovering," Darren whispered, scolding Hallie for her reckless behavior, he pulled Hallie into his arms, his face filled with tenderness, a tenderness she had never seen before.

Areiza thought she would never be hurt again with her armor on, but the soft knife still stabbed her heart. Her expression darkened, and Hallie noticed it immediately.

"Areiza, are you okay?" Before Areiza could answer, Darren's icy eyes shot at her like daggers.

Areiza immediately changed to a bright smile as she looked over at Hallie. "Everything's fine, it's just that I look at you lovebirds and I'm reminded of my boyfriend, but he's in Greece right now shooting a movie and I'm sad that I won't be able to see him."

Hallie's voice squeaked as she looked at me in disbelief. "You have a boyfriend? Is that why you have to divorce Darren?"

Areiza nodded. "Yes. My boyfriend completely understands my situation and is urging me to divorce Darren as soon as possible, and I think we should get married soon."

Once again, her words hit like a bomb and made Hallie squeal. Her face was bright and there was no sign of illness. She pulled Areiza excitedly and wanted to know what her boyfriend looked like.

Areiza said with difficulty, "Even though he's a director, he doesn't like people filming him, I know it's a contradiction, but that's how it is." Areiza took a sip of her coffee and tried to make her performance flawless.

Hallie rested her right hand on her cheek as she turned to Darren excitedly. "I think we could have a wedding together, don't you?"

Areiza spat out the water she had been drinking, everything was an invention on her part, how she was going to find someone to marry in a month.

Darren's face darkened again, and Areiza remembered that Darren hadn't said a word during the whole conversation. His eyes watched Areiza and it was impossible to tell what he was thinking, but Areiza wished he would reject Hallie's ridiculous proposal.

Darren gently reassured Hallie, "Look, I'm not lying to you, Areiza does live a happy life, and she won't get hurt because of you. But - you're being too abrupt with this offer; I think Areiza needs her own space. Just like we do, don't we?"

Hallie nodded her head and grabbed my hand, "Areiza, I'm really happy because during the three years you were studying abroad, Darren was there for me because of my fragile health. So, I'm happy that you found your happiness, just like I found Darren."

Areiza wanted to pull her hand away, she couldn't even be strong enough to tolerate her husband's lover speaking her sweetness to her, she felt the air around her being sucked dry, she was like a dying fish in desperate need of moisture.

At that moment her phone rang. It was her best friend Snow calling, Areiza immediately pulled back her hand and picked up the phone.

Thank God, Snow had saved her life.

Chapter 3 Living together

When Areiza said goodbye to Darren, Darren's deep eyes stayed on her face, and he wondered if her performance was real or fake. When she said that she was getting married, Darren saw a happiness on her face that he had never seen before, it seemed that this marriage he had with Areiza was torture for her as well.

There was nothing wrong with his decision.

Areiza's body finally went limp when she was sure they were far away, she could barely stand by holding on to the wall, and when her mind was almost recovered, she picked up the phone and dialed Snow.

"Areiza! Why did you just hang up?" Snow's angry tone came through.

Areiza laughed bitterly and explained, "I was just at Darren and Hallie's ......".

"WHAT THE FUCK!" Snow exploded before Areiza could finish. "HALLIE that bitch how she still has the face to see you, ah, usually do not see Junior the original game will hide far away, it seems that cannot use normal people's thinking to understand that bitch. If not, I am still out of town on a business trip, I have to come over to slap that bitch a few times. But the most shameless one is Darren, what's the difference between that and murder for him?"

Yes, Darren had indeed killed her, and now the Areiza that had been resurrected inside was alive. Not wanting her life to ever escape Darren, she stopped Snow who was still cursing her.

"Snow, stop, I don't think we'll see each other again, and the most important thing right now is to get a good job and settle down."

"Exactly! Let those two bitches stay together forever, sister! Trust me, with a face as pretty as yours, you'll find a better man than Darren!"

Better than Darren? Will there be one? Would she fall in love with someone else?

Snow's voice came again. "Ah...! I almost forgot, congratulations on passing the most difficult medical essay! Shortly, you'll be a shining star in the medical world!"

Areiza's face lit up! She had much more than Darren! Her voice also became more energetic. "Thank you! I'll see you to celebrate when the job is done!"

Areiza hung up, She decided to go home for now and see about hospital-related work, she needed to keep herself busy.

When she got home, Areiza hadn't even sat down when she noticed Darren had pushed the door open and walked in, Areiza's emotions were very mixed, why wasn't he with Hallie?

"My mom and grandma were coming over, so I had to come back," Darren explained as he went upstairs to get changed.

"What? So, they know about our divorce?" exclaimed Areiza.

Darren's footsteps stopped as he turned and said, "They ...... don't know yet, and I'd like us to keep the news under wraps for now. As you know, Grandmother is in very poor health."

Areiza was about to refuse his offer when Darren's words hit her like a bomb.

"So, we have to live together for now."

"What?!" Areiza's pupils seemed to split open! "Can Hallie stand what you're doing? Wasn't she looking forward to the wedding? Isn't her condition such that she can't be irritated anymore?" Areiza added angrily.

She didn't want to live with Darren, she had managed to convince herself to let Darren go completely, but if the two of them lived together, she would inevitably fall again.

She didn't want her soul to go through another beating.

"Hallie she ...... she'll understand."

Darren said and quickly walked back into the room.

Areiza stood still as she made plans to move out on her own and as she tried to get some water the doorbell rang.

Areiza put down the glass of water and went to open the door. As soon as she opened the door, the person standing outside hugged her tightly...

"Why didn't you tell me that you are back? If I didn't call that brat and he told me, I didn't even know that my sweet granddaughter-in-law was back. After staying abroad for so long, you forget about me, right?"

Jennifer, Darren's grandmother hugged Areiza and spoke.

"How can it be? How can I forget my sweet Grandma? I came back yesterday and planning to give you a surprise. However, before I could come to see you, you came first..." Areiza said with a smile.

"So, only miss your grandma, not your mother-in-law. I am feeling so hurt..." Lillian, Darren's mother, who was standing beside them, also spoke.

"How can that be?" Areiza said and hugged Lillian and spoke, "I miss you both. Come on, Grandma, Mom, let's go inside." As Areiza said, three of them went to the living room.

Darren's mother and grandmother always treated Areiza very well and made her feel like a family. Especially, Grandma Jennifer. However, past few months, her health was not in good condition. She can't get too excited. That was also the reason, she agreed with Darren to hide the fact of their divorce from her.

Areiza knows that if Grandma finds out about their divorce, she will get angry, which is not good for her health.

When Darren came down after changing his clothes, he heard the sound of laughter in the living room. Her Grandma, mother, and Areiza were sitting on the sofa chatting and laughing happily. There were fruits and pastries placed on the coffee table.

"Hi, Grandma." Darren walked downstairs and greeted her and reached out his hand to get the pastries.

"Don't dare to touch them." Grandma slapped Darren's hand away and said. "I specially made them for Aria, she loves the pastries made by me."

Darren pursed his lips and sat on the sofa opposite them and didn't say anything.

Grandma ignored him, picked up the pastries and handed them to Areiza, and said, "Aria, come and have a taste. Tell Grandma, how they taste?"

Areiza smiled and took the pastries and took a bite, she smiled and said, "The pastries made by Grandma are the best in the world. Nothing can compare them."

Grandma laughed happily and gave her one more. As they were chatting happily, Grandma suddenly looked at Darren and said, "I have booked an appointment with the doctor for you this week. I want you to have a full body check-up."
