Whose Son Is He, Really?

Author: : Haley
Genre: Billionaires
For twenty-five years, I, Ethan Cole, played a role, living a life that was both a meticulous facade and a deeply personal vow. I married the ambitious and cruel Vicky Sterling, raised our son Liam amidst the grandeur of the Sterling estate, all while a painful secret guarded a sleeping love. But the carefully constructed charade violently erupted at a tumultuous family gathering, when Vicky' s long-time lover, Blake Hamilton, brazenly declared to our son Liam and the entire shocked clan that he was Liam' s true biological father. Vicky, cloaked in a chilling pretense of maternal triumph, eagerly corroborated this lie, ruthlessly branding me as an infertile man unfit to lead, and immediately demanded a divorce alongside my complete expulsion from the family, our home, and the vast Sterling Global Enterprises. The avaricious Sterling relatives, like a pack of circling vultures, openly salivated, anticipating my public humiliation and utter financial ruin, convinced their moment to seize power had finally arrived. Blake even brought in a previously hidden young man, Brandon, presenting him as yet another son to solidify their treacherous claims and further dismantle my reputation. Everyone present expected me to shatter, to burst into despair, or to desperately fight for what they believed was slipping away, but I remained unnervingly composed, a faint, almost imperceptible smile hidden in my eyes. How could a man, seemingly losing his wife, his son, his legacy, and his entire standing, react with such profound and unsettling serenity? What deeply buried truth, what meticulously orchestrated plan, could possibly endow me with such unnatural calm in the face of what appeared to be total annihilation? In a move that genuinely shocked them all, I readily accepted their terms of divorce, but then countered with an unthinkable proposal: all parental assets, from all parties claiming parenthood, would be irrevocably transferred to Liam before any DNA test was conducted. They believed they had finally cornered me, celebrating what they presumed was my desperate surrender, but they had instead unwittingly stepped directly into the intricate, long-forged trap I had patiently waited twenty-five years to unleash.

Introduction

Chapter 1

Ethan Cole watched the New England coastline grow closer from the private jet's window.

Twenty-five years.

He had planned for this moment for a quarter of a century.

His usually composed face held a trace of something sharp. Readiness.

Eleanor. Her image was clear in his mind. Her bright smile, her keen intellect, her generous spirit.

She lay in a quiet hospital room, unchanged for all these years. Her life paused by a suspicious "accident."

He remembered the fertility clinic vividly. The hushed discussion with a lab technician. The discreet transfer of a substantial sum of money.

Vicky, his wife, believed she had been cunning. She arranged for Blake Hamilton' s sperm for the IVF.

She never suspected Ethan knew. He had ensured his own sperm was used.

More than that, he had arranged for Vicky' s eggs to be swapped with Eleanor' s, cryopreserved years ago. Eleanor, his true love.

Liam, his son, was resting in the seat across from him. Liam was not Vicky' s biological child.

He was Ethan and Eleanor' s son.

The rightful heir to the Sterling legacy.

The jet landed smoothly. A black car waited on the tarmac.

Liam woke as they descended the steps. He was tall, with Ethan' s observant eyes and Eleanor' s quiet strength.

"Ready for the welcome party, Dad?" Liam asked, a slight edge to his voice. He knew these family gatherings.

Ethan put a hand on his son' s shoulder. "We' re always ready, Liam."

The Sterling estate was as grand and imposing as ever. Cars lined the long driveway.

They walked into the main hall. The air was thick with tension.

Extended family members, the vultures of the Sterling clan, were gathered. Whispers stopped as Ethan and Liam entered.

Victoria "Vicky" Sterling, Ethan' s wife, stood near the large fireplace. She was beautiful, cold, and dripping with jewels.

She was not looking at Ethan or Liam. Her attention was on Blake Hamilton, her lover, who stood beside her, looking agitated.

Blake stepped forward as Liam entered. His face was a mask of false emotion.

"Liam," Blake said, his voice loud enough for everyone to hear. "There' s something you need to know."

He paused for dramatic effect, glancing at Vicky.

"I' m your real father!"

Silence.

Then, Ethan moved.

It was not a rush. It was a deliberate, calculated step.

He punched Blake Hamilton squarely in the jaw.

Blake stumbled back, shock on his face, then pain. He clutched his jaw.

Gasps filled the room.

Liam stepped in front of Ethan, facing Blake. His voice was cold, filled with anger.

"Ethan Cole is my father. He' s always been my father. The only father I need."

Vicky shrieked, rushing to Blake' s side. "How dare you, Ethan! How dare you!"

The greedy relatives watched, their eyes wide with anticipation. The show had begun.

Chapter 2

Vicky helped Blake to a chair. He was groaning, more for effect than actual injury, Ethan suspected.

She turned to the assembled family, her voice rising, theatrical.

"Ethan is a liar and a brute!"

She pointed a perfectly manicured finger at Ethan.

"Liam is not his biological son!"

A collective murmur went through the room. This was better than they had hoped.

Vicky continued, her eyes shining with a strange mix of triumph and malice.

"Ethan had fertility issues. He couldn' t give me a child."

She paused, letting that sink in.

"So, twenty-five years ago, when we decided on IVF, I made a choice. A mother' s choice."

Her gaze swept over Liam, who stood firm, his expression unreadable.

"I secretly used Blake' s sperm. Blake is Liam' s biological father."

Ethan watched her performance. She was a narcissist, craving the spotlight, even a self-made, destructive one. He felt a detached amusement. Liam caught his eye and gave a nearly imperceptible shake of his head, a shared disdain for Vicky' s dramatics.

Vicky turned to Liam, her voice softening, falsely maternal.

"Liam, my darling, it' s time you knew the truth. Blake is your father. He loves you."

She gestured towards Blake, who was attempting a pained, paternal smile.

"It' s time to acknowledge him. It' s time for Ethan to leave this family. And Sterling Global Enterprises."

The relatives buzzed with excitement. Ousting Ethan meant more for them.

They looked at Ethan, expecting him to crumble, to protest, to beg.

Ethan remained calm. His composure seemed to infuriate Vicky more.

Liam spoke, his voice clear and steady. "My father is Ethan Cole. That' s all I need to know."

His loyalty was a shield. Ethan felt a surge of pride.
