Chapter 1 Beneath the Surface

Easton Grey's life was the kind most people only dreamed of. His name was everywhere on the lips of business elites, in the society pages, and whispered in wonder by those who admired him from afar. A polished CEO with a sharp mind and a smile that could bring down the sharpest critics, Easton was the image of success, to the world, he was the golden boy of Miami, a man who built an empire with guts, charm, and brilliance.

The day started like any other for Easton. He sat at the head of a long marble table in his penthouse dining room, a steaming cup of coffee in his hand and the latest reports spread before him. Sunlight poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows, painting the room in warm, golden hues. The view beyond was amusing: Miami's skyline shone like a jewel against the blue ocean.

A soft knock at the door broke his focus. "Morning, Mr. Grey," his assistant, Melissa, called from the doorway. She was brisk and professional, quite young but efficient, and unfailingly polite, her blonde hair pulled up into a tight bun, an iPad tucked under her arm. One of the few people Easton trusted to manage the chaos of his busy life.

"Morning, Melissa," Easton replied with a faint smile. "What's on the agenda today?"

"A 9 am meeting with the board, followed by the charity business lunch at noon," she said, looking at the tablet in her hand. "And don't forget your flight to Mexico this evening."

Easton nodded, his expression calm. "The charity lunch remind me again what's the cause this time?"

"Children's education," she said, her voice steady. "They're hoping for a sizeable donation."

Easton chuckled softly. "Aren't they always?" He set down his coffee and rose from the table, his tailored suit fitting perfectly as he adjusted his tie. "Let's make sure we look generous, but not too generous. It's all about the balance."

"Yes, sir," Melissa replied, taking note.

As Easton stepped into the sleek black car waiting for him downstairs, the city buzzed with its usual energy. Passerbys busily walked on the sidewalks, cars honked in annoyance, and vendors called out to passersby. Easton leaned back in his seat, watching the city with an expression that could not be read. To anyone watching, he looked like a man on his way to another busy day at the office, but in truth, his mind was elsewhere.

The trip to Mexico constantly in his thoughts. It wasn't a vacation it was business of a different kind, Easton lived a double life. To the public, he was a philanthropist and a respected businessman, behind the scenes, he ruled in a darker world where power wasn't measured in boardroom votes but in fear and loyalty. It was a world he controlled with the same accuracy he applied to his legitimate empire.

"Busy day ahead, Mr. Grey?" his driver, Robert, asked, breaking the silence.

"Always, Robert," Easton replied, his tone light. "But what's life without a little excitement?"

Robert chuckled as he navigated through the morning traffic. "You do know how to keep things interesting, sir."

Easton smirked. "That's the goal."

The car pulled up to the towering glass building that housed Grey Enterprises. Easton stepped out, his polished shoes clicking on the pavement. Employees greeted him with smiles and respectful nods as he made his way to the private elevator. He returned their greetings with effortless charm, his personality warm and approachable, or so it seemed.

But behind that smile, Easton's mind was a web of calculations. Every discussion, every move, was deliberate. Trust was a luxury he couldn't afford. As the elevator went up, he looked at his reflection in the mirrored walls. To the world, he was Easton Grey, a man to admire and follow, only he knew the truth living under the surface.

Settling into his office, Easton's gaze went to the broad view of Miami, the city hummed with life, a constant reminder of the empire he'd built. Melissa entered with another fresh cup of coffee and the morning's schedule.

"Your meeting with be board on the Skinks company acquisition begins in ten minutes" Melissa announced,

"The odds are in our favor, so we should be able to buy it without any issues, although the board expect updates on our plans", Easton turned his face breaking into a practiced, seducing smile

"And they will get them", he said smoothly, his voice calm and confident, Melissa nodded in agreement

"Anything else I should know about today?" he asked, his tone now casual.

Melissa hesitated, her serious work face cracking just slightly. "There's been some interest from the press about your Mexico trip. They're curious about your involvement in the project down there."

Easton's eyes darkened for a number of seconds before the charming smile returned. "Let's make sure they get the right story, shall we? A human welfare project angle, perhaps, something that fits the brand".

"Of course," she said, her voice steady once more.

"Oh and one more thing, cancel my dinner plans tonight, I'll need time to prepare for tomorrow's trip", she looked back at the tab, now rearranging the schedule.

"Consider it done sir" As she left, he thought about the unspoken requirement of secrecy for anyone who worked for him and Melissa was the perfect example of such principle. His phone buzzed, and a familiar name displayed on the screen: Damian Torres

"Speak", Easton answered harshly, his voice lacking the charm he reserved for the public.

"Everything is confirmed", Damian replied. "You'll have private access before the main event. We've kept the selections exclusive as requested".

"Good, I want complete secrecy, no mistakes ".

"There won't be any", Damian assured him, "we've taken extra care of everything, the location is secure ".

Easton ended the call without another word, he didn't need reassurances; he needed results, he leaned back in his chair, the smirk returning to his lips. The game never stopped, and Easton Grey always played to win.

Chapter 2 Memories

Oaxaca, a small town in Mexico where Sophia Alvarez lived, surrounded by rolling hills and bright fields of wildflowers. It was a quiet place where the days moved slowly, filled with the simple pleasures of life. Sophia loved the mornings best, she would step outside her little house and breathe in the crisp, fresh air while listening to the birds singing in the trees, the sight of the rising sun always gave her hope, even on the hard days, nature was her way of escape

Sophia had always been close to her younger brother, Leo, at just fourteen, he was curious about the world and full of energy. Their home wasn't big or fancy, but it was cozy, with colorful tiles and handmade decorations that gave it character, they didn't have much but Sophia worked hard to make sure Leo never felt like they were missing anything.

Sophia inhaled the clean air of the morning, the sound of shuffling inside reminded her she wasn't alone for long. "Sophia?" Leo's grumpy morning voice called from the house.

"I'm here," she replied, turning to see her brother rubbing his eyes, his dark hair stuck out in all directions like a porcupine, a good sign he'd slept deeply. "Wash up, Get dressed and come eat. You'll be late for school if you don't hurry."

Leo smiled, his young energy already shining through his sleepy countenance. "What's for breakfast?"

"Eggs and bread and tea," Sophia said, smiling, it wasn't much, but it was enough to keep them going.

Their home was modest but full of life. The walls were decorated with bright tiles and a few framed photos of their family reminders of a happier time. One photo stood out more than the others it showed three siblings: , Sophia, Isabella and Leo. Sophia, the eldest, had her arm around a much younger Isabella, while Leo sat on her lap, giggling, the memory was bittersweet.

As Leo sat down to eat, Sophia caught him looking at the photo, she saw his smile fade just a little.

"Do you think Isabella would be proud of me?" he asked suddenly, his voice quiet.

Sophia's chest tightened, she walked over, placing a hand on his shoulder. "She would be more than proud, Leo. You're smart, kind, and hardworking. always believed in you, just like I do."

Leo nodded, even though his facial expression looked full of thought.

Isabella had been gone for three years, and her absence was a wound that never fully healed. Sophia remembered the day her sister disappeared as if it had happened yesterday, Isabella had gone into town to buy groceries, her laughter could be heard in the air when she left, but she never came back. At first, everyone assumed she had run away, it wasn't uncommon for young women in their town to leave in search of better opportunities, but deep down, Sophia knew something was wrong.

The truth came weeks later, a truth that broken their family. Isabella had been taken by human traffickers, the news came from a friend who had seen her being forced into a truck on the outskirts of town, Sophia couldn't sleep for days after hearing it. She imagined her sister's fear, her struggle, and her cries for help that no one answered, she blamed herself for being the cause of her disappearance, it was a pain she carried with her every day.

"Finish your breakfast," Sophia said softly, drawing herself out of her thoughts "You have school."

Leo obeyed, though his usual liveliness was a bit lower. After he left for school, Sophia busied herself with her routine, her job at the local café which was far from glamorous, but it paid the bills and kept her mind occupied.

The café was a small but lively place in the heart of town, it's walls were painted a cheerful yellow, and the smell of fresh coffee and pastries filled the air, Sophia tied her apron around her waist and got to work, greeting her coworker Maria with a tired smile.

"You look like you didn't sleep much," Maria said, handing Sophia a tray of clean cups.

Sophia sighed. "Same as always."

Maria gave her a knowing look but didn't press further. They had worked together long enough to understand each other's silences.

Throughout the day, Sophia served customers, cleared tables, and tried to keep her mind focused. But every now and then, her thoughts drifted back to Isabella, she wondered where her sister was now, if she was still alive, and if she ever thought of home.

"Do you think it's true?" Maria asked during a rare quiet moment.

"About what?" Sophia replied, wiping down the counter.

"The stories," Maria said, lowering her voice. "About the women who've been disappearing again. They say it's the same people who took your sister."

Sophia's hand froze for a moment before she continued cleaning. "I don't know," she said calmly, though her heart raced.

She had heard the rumors too. Women in their town were vanishing young, vibrant women with their whole lives ahead of them. The fear was always there, lurking in the back of her mind, she thought of Leo and silently vowed never to let him out of her sight.

As the sun set and her shift ended, Sophia walked home, her thoughts heavy. The streets were quieter now, the hustle of the day replaced by the soft creaking of crickets, she paused outside her house, staring at the wildflowers moving gently according to the direction of the breeze. They reminded her of Isabella, bright, beautiful, and gone too soon.

Inside, Leo was at the kitchen table, finishing his homework. He looked up when she entered, his face lighted up.

"Did you bring me anything?" he asked, his comical grin returning.

Sophia laughed, pulling a small pastry from her bag. "Just this. Don't eat it all at once."

Leo took it eagerly, his mood lifting. As the evening settled in, Sophia prepared dinner while Leo sat at the kitchen table, finishing his homework, the rhythm of the chopping of vegetables filled the room, an unusually satisfying background for their small conversation

"Did you finish that history project?" Sophia asked, looking at him.

"Almost," Leo replied, his brow furrowed in concentration. "Miss Ramirez said it's due tomorrow, but I'll get it done."

"Good. You're smarter than you give yourself credit for," Sophia said, ruffling his hair as she passed by.

That moment felt peaceful, soon enough dinner was ready, and they both ate in silence. Afterwards Sophia tucked Leo to bed and headed to sleep. That night, the dream returned, but it was different, instead of the dark forest, she stood in a crowded plaza, the air thick with the scent of smoke and sweat. She could hear Isabella's voice, clearer now, but it wasn't calling for help. It was singing soft and mournfully , a lullaby their mother used to hum.

Sophia turned, and there she was Isabella stood under a shaking streetlight, her eyes filled with tears.

"Why didn't you come sooner?" Isabella whispered, her voice breaking, Sophia tried to move, but her feet were rooted to the ground. "I'm here now," she said desperately.

Isabella reached out, her hand trembling in fear, but just as their fingers touched, a shadow arose , pulling her sister into the darkness. Sophia screamed, her voice breaking the dream as she woke in a cold sweat.

The clock on the wall read 3:00 AM. The house was silent, but she could feel something was off, her heart pounded as she rushed checked on Leo, who was still fast asleep.

From the window, she noticed a faint light in the forest like the flicker of a lantern. For a moment, she considered going outside, but fear held her back.

Chapter 3 Taken

Far away, Easton Grey was finalizing his plan of action for the Oaxaca auction. His assistant Melissa had sent the details of the venue a secluded estate hidden in the mountains, which one could only be granted access by private invitation.

"This is the biggest one yet," the message had read. "High demand for fresh stock."

Easton didn't flinch, to him, it was just business he sipped his whiskey, the burn calming the edges of his restless mind.

A knock at the door drew his attention. "Come in," he said, his voice calm but commanding.

It was Victor, his right-hand man. "Everything's in place, our contacts in Oaxaca assure us the local authorities are... cooperative."

"Good," Ethan replied, his tone measured. "I don't want any unnecessary surprises"

"Ok boss" victor replied before leaving his office

Easton picked up his tablet and swiped through the files his team had sent him. Each one had pictures, names, and details of people they were targeting one file caught his eye Sophia Alvarez.

Easton studied her photo, she had long, dark hair and warm brown eyes, her face was serious but full of quiet strength. The report said she lived in Oaxaca, a small town in Mexico, worked at a café, and had a younger brother, Leo. Her junior sister, Isabella, had been trafficked three years ago.

"She's interesting," Easton said to himself. "She might be the one."

Other than being a nuisance to the ladies, due to Easton's striking looks, he had a habit of womanizing, not just any kind of lady, but the best in the batch. Melissa his assistant was one of them, she was also a victim of his trafficking operation, but she proved herself useful to him through showing her ability to coordinate and manage her situation. Which led her to being his assistant.

A knock on the door broke his focus again, Victor, his right-hand man, stepped in.

"The jet is ready," Victor said. "We leave for Mexico in two hours."

Easton nodded. "Good. Make sure everything is set, no mistakes."

Victor paused before speaking again. "Sophia Alvarez has been asking about her sister, she might be trouble."

Easton smiled, a cold, calculated smile. "She won't be for long."

-----------------------------------------------------

Sophia Alvarez woke up to the sound of birds outside her window. Usually, their singing made her happy, but today, she felt uneasy, something didn't feel right.

She got out of bed and looked around the small room she shared with her younger brother, Leo. He was still asleep, his face peaceful, Sophia quietly got dressed and went to the kitchen to make breakfast.

The smell of coffee filled the air, but it didn't comfort her the way it usually did. She kept thinking about her junior sister, Isabella. Three years had passed since Gabriela disappeared, but the pain hadn't lessened. Sophia often wondered where she was and if she was okay.

Leo came into the kitchen, rubbing his eyes. "Morning," he said, grabbing some bread from the table.

"Morning," Sophia replied with a small smile, "Don't forget your school things, especially your assignments."

Leo groaned. "I won't". Leo went back inside to wash up and returned to have his breakfast.

After breakfast, Sophia walked him to the bus stop. She waved as he got on the bus, then headed to work at the café.

The café was busy, as usual, sophia tied her apron and got to work, serving customers and taking orders. Her co-worker Maria, always cheerful, tried to chat with her.

"You look tired today," Maria said.

"I didn't sleep well," Sophia admitted. She didn't want to explain the strange feeling that had been bothering her all morning.

The day dragged on, Sophia tried to focus on work, but her mind kept wandering. She couldn't shake the bad feeling, like something terrible was about to happen.

When her shift ended, Sophia walked home. The sun was setting, and the streets were quieter than usual. She thought about Leo and what to make for dinner, but her thoughts kept returning to Gabriela.

As she turned down a side street, she heard a voice. It was faint but familiar.

"Gabriela?" Sophia whispered, her heart pounding.

The voice came again, a little louder this time. It sounded just like her sister.

Without thinking, Sophia followed the sound, it led her down an alley. The light was dim, and the shadows made her uneasy.

"Isabella!" she called out, her voice trembling.

She rounded a corner and froze. Two men stood at the end of the alley, dressed in dark clothes.

Before she could react, one of them grabbed her arm. Sophia screamed, but the other man covered her mouth. She struggled, kicking and clawing, but they were too strong.

One of the men pulled out a cloth and pressed it to her face, it smelled strange, and soon, everything around her started to blur.

The last thing she saw before blacking out was the darkening sky above her, silent and far away.

Easton Grey stepped off his private jet and onto the runway in Mexico. The air was warm and heavy, with the faint smell of dust and salt, He took a deep breath, adjusting his suit as he scanned the area. A sleek black SUV pulled up, its windows tinted so dark they reflected the bright lights of the airport.

The driver stepped out, giving a respectful nod. "Mr. Grey, welcome to Mexico."

Easton said nothing as he got into the car, the cool air from the AC hit his face, and he leaned back into the soft leather seat, the driver shut the door behind him and took the wheel.

The streets of Mexico City were alive with noise and movement. Cars honked, street vendors called out to passersby, and groups of people hurried along the sidewalks, Easton's eyes moved over it all, but his expression stayed cold, He wasn't here to enjoy the sights.

After a quiet drive, the SUV pulled up to a grand hotel. Its white walls glowed under the lights, and the tall glass doors reflected the city around it, a doorman rushed to open the car door for Easton, but he didn't acknowledge him. He walked into the lobby without slowing down, his shoes clicking against the marble floor.

The hotel was a display of luxury. Gold accents, high ceilings, and a sparkling chandelier above gave it a sense of power and wealth, the staff greeted him with smiles, but Easton ignored them. He headed straight to the elevator, his mind already on the meeting ahead.

When he reached his suite on the top floor, he opened the door and stepped into the large room. Floor-to-ceiling windows gave him a view of the city lights stretching out to the horizon. The room was spotless, every detail carefully arranged to scream luxury.

A knock at the door pulled him from his thoughts.

"Come in," Easton said without turning around.

Victor walked in, his steps steady but quiet. He stood by the door, his hands behind his back. "Sir, she's been taken," he said simply.

Easton turned to face him, a spark of interest lighting his usually cold eyes. "Sophia?"

Victor nodded. "Yes. She was walking home after work. Our men played a recording of her sister's voice, and she followed it, that made it easy to grab her."

Easton's lips curled into a small smile. "And the brother?"

Victor shook his head. "He's still at their house. He's a kid, barely useful. We left him alone."

"Good," Easton said. "No point wasting time on him."

Victor hesitated before continuing. "She fought back, sir. Put up a good fight, but they managed to get her under control. She's got a few scratches, but nothing serious."

Easton walked to the bar in the corner of the room and poured himself a glass of whiskey. He took a sip, savoring the burn as he thought about what Victor had just told him.

"She's strong," Easton said, almost to himself. "That will make things... interesting."

"Do you want us to bring her here?" Victor asked.

Easton shook his head. "No, not yet. Let her stay where she is for now, She needs to be scared, unsure of what's coming next. Fear is a tool, Victor ,it's useful, but only when you use it right."

Victor nodded, his face calm. "Understood."

"Good," Easton said, his voice firm. "Make sure she stays safe but unsettled. I don't want her broken. Not yet."

Victor left the room, closing the door behind him. Easton walked back to the window, his glass in hand, the city below looked alive, full of stories and secrets.

Sophia Alvarez was no ordinary target. She wasn't just another girl in the auction, there was something about her, something that made her stand out. And Easton was determined to find out what it was.
