When Love Turns to Treachery

Author: : Marmaduke Ryder
Genre: Billionaires
Ava Thompson' s 18th birthday glittered, a fairytale of wealth and love, with her devoted fiancé Liam and beaming brother Ethan by her side. But a "revolutionary" drone show went horrifically wrong, leaving her burned and disfigured. Worse, phantom subtitles-a bizarre digital feed-flickered in her vision, predicting the unthinkable: Liam and Ethan abandoning her for Chloe, the intern responsible. The screen's nightmares rapidly became reality. Her supposed protectors neglected her, accused her of poisoning Chloe, exiled her to a rundown hovel, then stripped her of her fortune and forced her into a degrading motel job. The ghostly feed continued to mock her every step, even as her wounds festered. How could her loved ones turn so cruel, so fast? Was she losing her mind, or was a malevolent force controlling them, pushing her towards ultimate despair? The injustice was a searing pain, worse than her burns, leaving her desperate for answers. When the feed declared she "should just die," something inside Ava snapped. Instead, she chose defiant screaming and a desperate escape, refusing to become a forgotten statistic. This broken heiress, scarred but not defeated, would claw her way back from hell, determined to find out what truly pulled the strings and reclaim her life.

Chapter 1

The ballroom glittered, a sea of diamonds and champagne for Ava Thompson's eighteenth birthday.

Her father' s media empire spared no expense.

Ava, in a white gown, felt like a princess, her childhood sweetheart Liam Carter by her side, her older brother Ethan beaming.

Then Chloe Miller, an intern, launched her "revolutionary" pyrotechnic drone show.

A surprise, she' d called it.

Sparks rained down, beautiful for a second.

Then a drone veered, a fiery comet.

It slammed into the elaborate floral arch near Ava.

Screams.

Ava felt a searing heat, then blackness.

She woke to agony, her face and leg consumed by fire.

Ethan was a storm of fury beside her hospital bed, Liam' s face pale with rage.

"That intern, Chloe! She' ll pay for this! We' ll sue her into oblivion!" Ethan vowed, his voice tight.

Liam squeezed her hand, his touch meant to soothe. "We' ll get the best doctors, Ava, you' ll be okay."

They showered her with promises, with care that felt suffocating.

Then, the words started.

Flickering in her vision, like phantom subtitles on the pristine white ceiling.

LOL, this heiress is so dramatic. She totally walked into the display. The new girl Chloe is way more interesting.

Ava blinked. The words remained.

OMG, Ethan and Liam are so gonna fall for Chloe. Watch them use this 'punishment' as an excuse to see her. #EnemiesToLovers arc incoming for Chloe!

A cold dread seeped into Ava, deeper than the burns.

If Ava knew Ethan and Liam would eventually throw her into a hellish 'rehab' to please Chloe, she'd probably have a meltdown now. LMAO.

She tried to speak, to ask what this was, but pain choked her.

These couldn't be real.

A frantic assistant, Ms. Davies, burst into the private room, her face ashen.

"Mr. Carter! Chloe Miller, the intern, she' s critical! Something happened at the detention center! Mr. Thompson is already with the specialist they called for her!"

Liam, who had been whispering comforting words to Ava, froze.

His gentle facade shattered, raw panic exposed.

He dropped Ava's hand.

"Chloe? Critical?" he stammered, already moving.

Ava, weak, reached out, her fingers brushing his expensive suit. "Liam, don' t go, please. She did this to me."

Her voice was a hoarse whisper.

He turned, his eyes, moments ago filled with concern for Ava, now held a desperate, almost wild look.

"Ava, be reasonable," he snapped, his tone harsh, unfamiliar. "Chloe is... special. We can't let her die. She has so much potential."

Ava stared, her heart cracking. The live feed in her vision pulsed.

Liam's 'concern' for Chloe is so obvious. He's already hooked! Ava's good days are OVER.

He was already at the door.

"Liam!" she cried, trying to push herself up, pain shooting through her leg.

He didn't look back.

He ran, abandoning her.

The horror, the feed, it was all real.

Ava chasing him on her cane is pathetic. #WashedUpHeiress

The feed showed her future self, a detail she couldn't yet comprehend, but the mockery was clear.

Tears streamed down her bandaged face, mixing with the antiseptic smell of the room.

Chapter 2

Ava tried to follow Liam, pushing past a startled nurse, grabbing a discarded walker nearby.

She stumbled out of the hospital wing, into the cold night air, rain starting to fall.

She saw Liam' s car speeding away.

She collapsed on the wet pavement, the movement tearing at her fresh wounds.

Rain soaked her thin hospital gown, chilling her to the bone.

Her burns throbbed, a fresh wave of infection setting in.

Later, when nurses found her, shivering and delirious, her requests for top burn specialists were met with vague excuses.

"All premier medical resources are currently... allocated, Miss Thompson," a nervous administrator told her.

Redirected to Chloe.

Ava overheard two nurses whispering in the hallway.

"Mr. Ethan Thompson himself ordered it. Only the best for Miss Miller."

"But what about Miss Thompson? Her own brother..."

"He said Miss Miller's unique talents are vital to the company."

The live feed flared again.

Chloe gets round-the-clock care from two devoted guys, Ava can't even get a doctor for her festering wound. The irony!

Wait till Ava finds out Ethan and Liam personally treated Chloe's minor 'injuries' from the 'punishment' with imported serums. They're so down bad.

Minor injuries? From the "punishment" Ethan had promised?

A bitter laugh escaped Ava.

The care they showed her after the accident, their outrage, it was all a performance.

The memory of the gala, the fire, Ethan' s protective stance, Liam' s gentle words – it all felt like a distant, poisoned dream.

Her brother, her fiancé, bewitched by the intern who had nearly killed her.

Days blurred into a haze of pain and neglect.

Finally, driven by a desperate need to understand, Ava, using a cheap cane provided by a sympathetic orderly, made her way to the Thompson Corporation headquarters.

She bluffed her way to the executive suite, a place she once roamed freely.

The door to Ethan' s main office was slightly ajar.

She peered in.

Ethan and Liam were there, hovering over Chloe Miller, who sat on a plush sofa, dabbing at her eyes with a silk handkerchief.

Chloe, looking pale but remarkably unharmed, was speaking in a soft, tearful voice.

"It was all an accident, I swear. The gala... Ava just misunderstood my intentions. I only wanted to make her birthday spectacular."

Ethan gently patted Chloe' s shoulder. "We know, Chloe. Ava... she can be impulsive. She probably got too close to the display."

Liam nodded, his expression soft as he looked at Chloe. "Don't worry yourself. We'll handle Ava."

Then Ava saw it.

Ethan was applying a rare, imported healing balm to a tiny scratch on Chloe's arm.

The same balm that was meant for Ava' s severe burns, the one her doctors said was "unavailable."

The world tilted. The betrayal was absolute.
