When Love Kills, And Then Reborns

Author: : Fonz Nadherny
Genre: Billionaires
I was a successful Silicon Valley mogul, a man of immense wealth and, as it turned out, even greater naivety, deeply in love with my beautiful fiancée, Ava. Our meticulously planned future seemed perfect until tragedy allegedly struck: Ava "died" in a devastating rock-climbing accident, leaving my world utterly shattered and adrift. For years, in my grief, I poured millions of dollars into commemorative foundations and generously supported her "grieving sisters," Chloe and Zoe, genuinely mourning a love I believed was tragically lost. Then came the crushing blow: I stumbled upon her in Monaco – radiant, laughing, and shockingly alive on Liam Knight's arm, their children by their side, oblivious to my existence. They were living a lavish life, funded entirely by the immense fortune I had unknowingly gifted them through her fabricated death, a calculated deception that bled me dry for years. The sheer shock of this colossal betrayal, the agonizing realization of decades of meticulously planned deceit perpetrated by those I trusted most, was so profound it literally stopped my heart. My previous life, built on a foundation of love and trust, crumbled to ash as I felt the ultimate sting of idiocy and a crushing, all-consuming fury that burned hotter than any pain. But death wasn't the end for me; it was merely a reset. I snapped awake in the familiar luxury of my sprawling Silicon Valley mansion, the annoying beep of my alarm no longer a nuisance, but a powerful clarion call. It was the precise morning Ava was supposed to 'die,' the very day that had marked the agonizing origin of all my past life's misery and betrayal. This time, however, I wasn't the heartbroken, unsuspecting fiancé anymore. I was reborn, armed with every single painful memory and a cold, unyielding resolve, and my objective was terrifyingly clear: meticulously reclaim everything they stole, and ruthlessly expose every single viper who dared to prey on my trust.

Introduction

Chapter 1

The first thing I felt was the annoying beep of my alarm.

My eyes snapped open.

Sunlight streamed through the window of my Silicon Valley mansion.

This wasn't the sterile white of a Monaco hospital.

This wasn't the crushing pain in my chest.

I sat up, my heart pounding, but not from a heart attack.

It was today.

The day Ava was supposed to die.

The day my previous life's misery began.

But I wasn't the grieving fiancé anymore.

"I was reborn," I whispered, the words tasting like ash and power.

My objective was clear: reclaim my life, expose the vipers.

I remembered the Monaco gala vividly, decades from this very morning.

Ava, radiant and cruel, on Liam Knight's arm, their children laughing beside them.

My Ava, my fiancée, who had "died" in a tragic rock-climbing accident.

The shock of her alive, living off the fortune I'd naively given her "grieving sisters," Chloe and Zoe, had stopped my heart.

Decades of deception, funded by my idiocy.

That old Ethan died in Monaco.

This new Ethan remembered everything.

I knew Chloe and Zoe would call soon.

Their voices dripping with fake sympathy.

Their hands already itching for Ava's "inheritance."

They'd ask about shares, about the foundation money.

The thought made my stomach churn, not with grief, but with cold anger.

My mind was already racing, my first strike forming.

They thought they were clever.

They had no idea who they were dealing with now.

I grabbed my phone, my fingers surprisingly steady.

My assistant, David, answered on the first ring.

"Ethan? Is everything alright? You're up early."

"David," I said, my voice devoid of emotion. "Get my legal team on a conference call. Now."

"Sir? Is there a problem?"

"Just do it."

Within minutes, the call was connected. Three of my top lawyers.

"Gentlemen," I began, "Ava Monroe is about to be reported deceased in an accident."

A stunned silence.

"My instructions are as follows: First, freeze every asset, every account, every trust fund linked to Ava Monroe, Chloe Bishop, and Zoe Chandler. Effective immediately."

"Second, rescind any company stock, gifted or promised, to any of them. Terminate any pre-nuptial benefits for Ava."

"Third, as soon as the official report of Ava's 'death' comes in, you will formally notify all relevant authorities: DMV, State Department for her passport, all banks, Social Security Administration. Her identity is to be rendered void for travel and financial transactions."

"Ethan, this is... drastic," one lawyer finally managed.

"It's decisive," I corrected. "Do it."

I remembered the endless checks I'd written.

The "grief counseling" retreats for Chloe and Zoe that cost a fortune.

The "charity donations" in Ava's name that lined their pockets.

Ava, in my past life, had faked her death to elope with Liam.

Chloe and Zoe were her accomplices, her "sisters" from my mother's ill-fated mentorship program, designed to find me a "grounding" partner.

They grounded me alright. Into the dirt.

Millions. They bled millions from me, all while I mourned a ghost.

No more.

My lawyers confirmed they understood. The plan was in motion.

The first pieces were moving on my chessboard.

Chapter 2

The news ticker on the television in my study soon flashed the headline.

"Local Philanthropist Ava Monroe Feared Dead in Tragic Climbing Accident."

The report detailed how she was scouting a location for a charity event.

Such noble lies.

I felt nothing but a cold satisfaction.

The official report would now trigger my lawyers' actions.

Just as I predicted, my private line rang.

Caller ID: Chloe Bishop.

I let it ring three times before answering.

"Ethan? Oh, Ethan, thank God I reached you!" Chloe's voice was a symphony of feigned hysteria.

Zoe was wailing theatrically in the background.

"Have you heard? Ava... oh, Ethan, it's too horrible!"

I leaned back in my chair. "Heard what, Chloe?"

My calm tone must have thrown her.

"Ava! The news... the climbing accident! She... she's gone!"

I thought of her laughing in Monaco, decades of life ahead of her, stolen from me.

I thought of my own death, triggered by her face.

"Yes," I said, my voice flat. "I've been informed."

"Oh, Ethan, we're devastated! We're coming right over!"

"Don't bother," I said.

Silence. Then, "What? But Ethan, we need to be there for you! And... and discuss Ava's arrangements... her things..."

Her estate, she meant. Her shares.

"There's nothing to discuss, Chloe," I said, my voice like ice. "My legal team is handling everything pertaining to Miss Monroe."

"Miss Monroe?" Zoe shrieked in the background, momentarily forgetting to sob. "Ethan, what are you saying?"

"I'm saying her affairs are being settled," I replied. "There will be no 'estate' for you to pick over. Any gifts or benefits are rescinded."

"But... but the shares Ethan promised Ava! The pre-nup!" Chloe stammered, her voice losing its sorrowful act, replaced by a sharp, greedy edge.

"Were contingent on a marriage that will not happen," I said coolly. "And for a woman who, as far as the world is concerned, is now deceased. My lawyers have been very clear."

They were stunned into silence. Good.

I could almost hear their brains whirring, their carefully laid plans crumbling.

"Now, if you'll excuse me, I have actual business to attend to," I said, and hung up.

Miles away, at a private airfield, Ava Monroe checked her fake passport at the customs desk.

Liam Knight, her lover, stood beside her, oozing charisma.

The customs officer frowned at his screen.

"Ma'am, there seems to be an issue with your passport."

Ava smiled sweetly. "Oh? I can't imagine what."

"This passport is flagged. It belongs to a deceased individual."

Ava's smile froze. Liam's eyes narrowed.

Her phone buzzed. A frantic text from Chloe: *Ethan knows! He's frozen everything! Ava's legally DEAD!*

Panic flared in Ava's eyes. Their escape was foiled.

Their funds, mostly siphoned from me, were now inaccessible.

Later that day, my mother called, her voice trembling.

"Ethan, darling, this news about Ava... it's dreadful. And Chloe and Zoe called, they were so distraught, said you were being... rather cold."

"Mother," I said, my voice firm but not unkind. "Ava is gone. Chloe and Zoe were interested in her assets, not my well-being. I'm handling it."

"But darling, that mentorship program... I just wanted you to be happy, to find someone... grounding."

"I know, Mom," I said, a touch of weariness in my voice. "Perhaps it's time I considered someone of my own choosing. Someone like Sophia Chen."

My COO. Brilliant, loyal Sophia. In my past life, I realized too late how much she cared.

My mother was silent for a moment. "Sophia? Oh. Well, she is a wonderful girl, Ethan. Very capable."

A small seed planted. A different future blooming.

Ava and Liam, meanwhile, were stuck. Their lavish escape plan was in tatters.

Their world was rapidly shrinking.
