"Are you nervous?"
Tyler asked as the countryside began to pass by the windows. He was driving and I was in the passenger seat of his car, simply looking outside.
"Not really," I chuckled turning my head to him. He had his eyes on the road ahead, and his light brown irises held a cheerful expression within them.
"Then what are you thinking?"
"Just wondering what sort of things are in store for me this year. You know I'm joining the school in the middle of the year. So don't know what people are gonna think," I voiced my thoughts.
Ty tilted his face to me and frowned. "When did you start caring about what others think?"
"I don't.." I shrugged my shoulder. "But I need to fit in and somehow survive here."
"Carrie, you're gonna fit in perfectly well. And I'm sure you'll have a nice year ahead. We'll enjoy a lot together," he flashed me a warm smile. I just nodded and smiled in response. I really hope I have a nice year.
Well, before we move on, let me tell a little about myself. My name is Caroline Ann Turner. I'm called 'Carrie', 'Annie' etc by my close ones. Ty usually calls me Carrie. Tyler is my cousin brother, but he is just like my own brother and we are best friends. We are both 17, but I'm a bit older.
My home is in Perellard and I arrived here in Witalder yesterday. Dad is a General manager at a company and Mom is a doctor. I'm their only daughter and now they practically send me away from home.
The reason is that I got into a few troubles in my previous school and along with that my GPA wasn't that impressive. So they, at last, dismissed me when I punched and broke a Jerk's nose. But it wasn't my fault. He asked for it. Believe it or not, somehow troubles automatically find their way to me, wherever I go.
So yeah, here my lovely Cousin Tyler is the top student in school and my parents thought it would be a good idea to send me here and make me attend the rest of the two years of high school along with him. So that maybe Ty can influence me and I'll finally become a goody two shoes like him. But I know myself better.
Anyway, I agreed with their decision. Because first of all I couldn't by any means stay at my previous school. I messed up with the wrong gang and it was even dangerous for my life to continue there. Just kidding. It wasn't dangerous for my life or anything. I just only got a silly death threat from the jerk I punched.
Secondly, I love food, and Ty's Mom is a great cook. No wonder, she runs a café. Let me say openly, My Mom's cooking skills suck.
Thirdly, I'm happy to attend school with Ty. You know, at home I'm alone and I really hate being alone. I hope here I can enjoy a lot with Ty like he said. Right now we both are on our way to my new high school 'Harbinger high'. And we both are in grade 11.
"Ty, are you popular in school?" I blurted out the question which suddenly popped into my head out of nowhere.
"Uhm...not really," he hummed.
"You aren't?" I asked, knitting my eyebrows. He might be really popular. I mean he is extremely handsome, the top student and he is also on the basketball team. Or is he still that nerd from middle school?
Yeah, our Ty was a typical nerd when he was in middle school and he used to get bullied a lot. He even changed school during 8th grade. But he said it changed after he joined the new middle school and got selection for the basketball team.
"Yeah. I'm not that popular," he repeated, leaving a sigh. "But I have a few friends to whom I can introduce you."
"Well...I wonder why you haven't got a girlfriend yet."
"C'mon... I told you I hate the relationship thing," he groaned.
"So that means you get hooked up a lot," I smirked. He rolled his eyes. I just asked that to tease him. I know he isn't into that kind of stuff and he most certainly hasn't lost his v card yet. And I even doubt he is secretly into boys. Maybe I can make him come out to me soon.
"So what about you?" he asked.
"I haven't come across the right person yet. Let's see if I can meet them here," I replied.
Ty smiled and nodded. "Carrie, I have basketball practice evening. So Take my car and go home after class."
"So how are you coming back?" I asked. "I'll wait for you."
"You don't need to wait. I'll ask Asher to drop me back at home."
"Who is Asher ?" I asked, and he chuckled at my curiosity.
"Our basketball captain. His house is only a few blocks away from ours."
"Oh...", I nodded.
In another five minutes, we pulled up in the school's parking lot. Ty tilted his face and looked at me while unbuckling his seat belt. His expression suddenly became a serious one.
"Okay Caroline, now I need to give you some instructions since it's your first day. First of all, don't get into any fights with girls or boys. And behave politely to teachers and generally everyone. Also, listen carefully to class and take notes. At least you should listen when the teacher is talking about assignments. I heard you didn't turn in half of the assignments last year. It's not gonna happen here,"
He said in a very serious tone as if he is my science teacher Mr. Roger. Oh hell, my Mom! She has told him everything.
"C'mon Ty, you already gave me enough instructions yesterday. Please don't start again," I groaned. He sighed and got out of the car. I opened the car door and got out as well, falling into step with him.
"Who is the new girl with Tyler?" I heard a girl whisper as we entered the hallway.
"Don't know. Will she be his girlfriend?" another girl whispered, almost in a shocked voice.
"No way. The last time I checked, Ty didn't have a girlfriend. She is probably just his friend."
Whispers continued to arise from the crowd of people in the hallway as we walked to the office to get my schedule. I thought Ty said he isn't popular. Damn boy! He was lying. Everyone here seems to know him, judging by the looks they are giving me.
Soon we reached the office and got my schedule. Ty was about to compare both of our timetables to see which subjects we have in common when someone called out his name. I turned around to see a tall, dark handsome guy coming walking toward us with a wide smile plastered on his face.
"Hey, Brent !" Ty smiled brightly.
"I wondered why you didn't come for morning practice. But now I see you got a valid reason." the Brent guy said whilst flashing a cocky smile in my direction.
"Oh man, this is my cousin sister," Tyler sighed causing the Brent guy to let out a laugh.
"I knew it. I was just teasing you. Asher told me your cousin sister is joining today and you're accompanying her on her first day," he grinned and turned towards me, extending his hands. "Hi, I'm Brent Dexter, I'm on the basketball team with Ty. So, what's your name?"
"Caroline Turner," I replied whilst taking his hand and quickly giving it a firm shake. As I left his hands free, he raised his eyebrows in an impressed kind of manner and grinned at me as if I passed his vibe check.
"Okay then see you both later," he said and leisurely walked away, stuffing his hands in his pocket. I turned to Ty to ask him more about the guy, only to see him frowning looking at my timetable.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"I can't believe we only have maths together." He whispered in an almost discouraged tone, giving my timetable back to me. His face looked so dim as if he had expected me to be with him in every class.
That's kinda sad but anyway I believe whatever happened is for my good. I mean, I don't want him to see me sleeping and getting scolded in every class. Not that I care but I don't want him to do spy work for my Mom.
"It's okay. You've still got plenty of time at home to try to make me a nerd, although it's not gonna happen," I patted his back, to which he shook his head in defeat. "Okay then, my first hour is History. See you next hour," I said and smiled. The second hour was Maths for both of us.
"Okay, History class is on the second floor, left corridor. Or wait, I'll take you to the class so that you don't lose your way around," he said grabbing my hands.
"No need. I'm not a kindergarten kid," I jerked away his hands causing him to leave an inaudible sigh. "Now you better go to your class before you get late," I chuckled and turned around, walking in the direction he showed me.
I looked at my watch and saw there was still time for the first hour. So I walked slowly, looking around and admiring the school infrastructure. The corridors were clean and attractive, with paintings stuck on the walls above every classroom door.
I was walking whilst gazing at the picture of a sunset on the wall when suddenly, I felt myself colliding hard with someone. The force of it almost knocked me down on the floor that I assumed the person who hit me was probably running.
I heard a 'cling' sound during the collision that I immediately looked down at the floor to see a white letter cover and a silver pen lying on the floor along with a chocolate.
My gaze was soon interrupted by a rude comment, "Are you blind or something? Or you decided to purposefully collide into people this morning?" I looked up at the owner of the voice, who was standing in front of me, eyebrows knitted and intimidating grey eyes boring into me.
"Excuse me! You are the one who hit me, if you didn't realize yet," I informed him. He was the one who collided with me, right? How dare he speak to me like that and now glare at me like this?
I looked back at the items on the floor and I saw a single red rose petal lying near the letter. But there weren't any flowers on the floor. That's when I looked back again at the guy and noticed a fresh red rose sticking out of his bag's side pocket.
"I see.." I couldn't help but chuckle. "Boy, you couldn't wait for one more second to see your girlfriend that you were rushing like a bullet train? You realize you almost fell over another girl?" I chuckled.
It's obvious that it's a letter to his lover or crush, lying along with the chocolate and the expensive-looking pen. Do guys still give love letters? So outdated.
The guy in front of me glared at me harder. And it's then I realized he was looking really weird yet somewhat attractive in an unearthly way. He wasn't very tall, I guess 5'8 or 5'9. But still, he was very much taller compared to me as I'm only 5'3. His hair was creamy blonde and some fringes fell over his forehead. His narrowed charcoal grey eyes were alluring but cold. His skin was too pale for anyone's liking.
I suddenly found myself thinking about Draco Malfoy, Ursula and Jack from Frozen. He wasn't like any of them but he really looked like some Ice prince who came out of a cartoon. It's only a moment later that I realized I was gawking at him while he too was staring back at me. I also felt many pairs of eyes on us from both sides of the corridor.
"How dare you talk to me like that? It was you who bumped into me," he said in a low voice, through gritted teeth. "Pick it up," he said, pointing at the items lying on the floor.
"Hello? Why should I? You pick it up if you want," I scoffed.
"Pick it up right now," he said looking at my ID card, his expression now blank.
"No...! What will you do?" I snapped.
"Pick them up. Go to Room no 212, Chemistry class and give it to Claire Wilson," he said calmly. I chuckled at that. What did he think of me? His wing woman? I was about to speak but then he turned and walked away, tucking his hands in his pocket.
Seriously? Did he really think I would pick it up and deliver it to this girl, Clair Wilson? Oh, what about that Rose then? Wasn't he rushing to meet this girl? Why would he leave his love letter on the floor like that? I can't understand, what the hell is wrong with this guy. Either he is extremely stupid or extremely arrogant.
I shook my head and started to walk. But then the chocolate captivated me. It was like the chocolate was calling out to me from behind. Okay, I'm gonna eat that chocolate. If I don't pick it up, someone else is gonna pick it up and have it. So It's better I have it.
I turned and bend down picking the chocolate. Should I pick the letter and pen? Maybe I can open the letter and see what the Ice prince has written inside it. I guess it's okay to open the letter since he left it on the floor so cool like that. I ended up picking all three items. And then the bell rang.
Oh, shoot! I need to find my class. I quickly rushed in search of the History classroom, tugging the three items into my jeans pocket. Soon I found the classroom and a lot of people looked at me in confusion as I walked in.
"Hi! Don't worry, I didn't get the classroom wrong, I'm the new student," I said, smiling at the people before walking towards an empty seat in the back, near the window. As I sat down, a few people surrounded me and started asking me questions. I enthusiastically replied to their questions, as I didn't want to give them a bad first impression of me.
Unfortunately, a guy named Noah found the chocolate poking out of my pocket and was looking at it. Ahh...I had thought to have it alone. Now I have to share. I groaned inwardly and took the chocolate out. The chocolate disappeared no sooner than I opened it. I got a tiny piece and honestly, it was really tasty. It might be really costly. Too bad, I couldn't get a bigger piece.
Soon the History teacher Miss Cooper, a middle-aged Woman in her forties arrived and everyone went back to their seats. Mrs. Cooper opened the second chapter in our textbook and quickly began teaching without noticing me.
I tried to concentrate hard since it was my first class in this high school. But sadly, I failed terribly after ten minutes. It's not my fault. The class was hella boring. I looked out of the window and found the vast football ground. However, it was empty. But a nice cool wind was blowing inside through the window.
I sat like that looking out for some time until I heard the teacher call my full name. Shit! I messed up in the first class itself. I quickly turned my face to look at the teacher.
"Who is Caroline Ann Turner?" Mrs. Cooper asked. Oh, so she was just asking to know who is the new student. I left a relieved sigh and stood up.
"Caroline, you are wanted by the principal," Mrs. Cooper said, shooting me a glare.
What? Why!?
I'm not gonna lie, I wasn't nervous when I knocked on the Principal's office door and asked for permission.
Although I was used to being called to the principal's office once in a while in my previous schools, this was a totally different case. This was my first day in a new school, that too a school so many miles away from my home, and I know it was so much trouble for Dad to get me admission here.
"Come in," the Principal, Mr. Morris said in a not-so-pleasant voice. And I felt more nervous. What have I managed to do within the first hour of my first day in this school?
I slowly walked in. A girl and a guy were standing there in front of Mr. Morris, facing their back to me. The guy had his arms crossed over his chest.
Wait! The same green t-shirt! And Blonde hair! Is he the snow prince?
Yes, he is!
I confirmed it after I reached near him and looked at his side profile. Who is the girl? His girlfriend? So did he just complain to the principal that I collided with him and ruined his surprise for his girlfriend? What is happening?
I frowned at him but then the Principal started speaking to me in a cold voice.
"Caroline Ann Turner. New student, right?"
"Yes sir," I nodded.
"So, Miss Turner, where is the money?" The next second he growled at me.
"Money? What money?" I uttered confused and nervous at the harsh look he was giving me. He was looking at me as if I pickpocketed him on my way to the classroom. Oh! Did I do that by any chance?
"Miss Turner, stop acting and confess already. Or I'm going to call your parents right now! How dare you do such a thing on the first day itself? You can't continue here one more second. We don't want thieves inside this campus," Mr. Morris sneered. I was more than shocked.
"Sir, I can't understand what you are talking about. I didn't steal any money," I tried to voice confidently. I can't even understand what is happening. What am I gonna tell my parents if I get dismissed on the first day itself?
"That's it. I'm calling your parents." Mr. Morris said and stood up from his chair but then the pale face uncrossed his hands and started talking.
"Sir, wait a minute before you call her parents. I'll ask her," Mr blonde guy said in such a sweet and calm tone, which was entirely opposite from the attitude he showcased in front of me less than half an hour ago. Then he tilted his face and looked at me.
"Where is the envelope and pen I gave you? Why didn't you give it to her?" he asked pointing at the girl.
"You gave it to me ?" I questioned. "You walked away dropping those..."
"What?" he cut me off before I could complete my sentence. "You agreed you'll take the envelope and safely deliver it to Claire. I was ready to take it to her but you insisted you'll deliver it, so that I can reach the meeting of Science club members on time. I didn't know your intention was to steal the money."
"What!?" I gasped. Look how efficiently he is lying. This bitch!
I turned to the principal. "Sir, he is lying. I thought it was a love letter and he is asking me to take the letter to his girlfriend. I refused to deliver it and he just walked away leaving the things on the floor."
"I told you clearly that it was the prize money and gift for the second prize winner in the Maths riddle competition," the bitch said calmly.
"You! Why are you lying!?" I sneered at him before turning to Mr. Morris. "Sir, this boy is lying. I honestly didn't know there was money inside it. Please believe me."
"I know who is lying," Mr. Morris growled. "Mr. Carter has never done such a thing. So you don't need to try to convince me that he is lying. Now, say where is the money and the gift prize."
I was awestruck. Also, I realized he was the new villain in the freshly started chapter of my story. And he is a villain with standards and is definitely gonna be a trouble. Look how much trust the principal has in him. It's better I don't try to contradict him right now. Cause It's clear I won't be able to convince my innocence to the principal.
So, I quickly fished the cover and the pen out of my pocket. The principal yanked it from my hands, angrily.
"Sir, I wasn't planning to steal or anything. I just thought it was a love letter. Because he even had a red rose poking out of his bag. And I didn't hear him properly when he spoke to me. He was talking fast and was in a hurry, probably to go to the meeting. And I didn't know where to take this. I was actually thinking to find him during the break. I'm really sorry."
Mr. Morris furrowed his eyebrows and looked at the Malfoy of my story who was gawking at me, looking kinda impressed. He quickly wiped away the stupid smirk from his pale face and uncrossed his hands. "Yeah, I had a rose with me. I received it from someone this morning."
Mr. Morris didn't say anything and went on checking the money inside the envelope. He left an annoyed sigh once he found there wasn't any money missing.
The jerk beside me then cleared his throat, again crossing his hands. "I think there was a chocolate along with it." Oh, bitch!
"Sorry, I'll pay its cash," I said.
"You ate it ?" The bastard chuckled and raised an eyebrow. I didn't say anything as I figured it was best for me to keep my mouth shut.
The principal again sighed. "Anyway, I need to talk to your parent because I don't believe you. This is your first day and if you did such a thing on your first day, I don't know what all things you are gonna do next," he said and bent down to look at his computer.
Oh no! I can't let this happen. Currently, my guardian is my uncle and I can't let the principal call him on my first day itself. He'll be so disappointed in me. Moreover, my parents will be so disappointed.
"Sir, please don't. I promise I won't do something like this again. I'm really sorry. Give me any punishment. Please just don't call my parents."
Mr. Morris just ignored me and started tapping on the keyboard. But then the jerk spoke.
"Mr Morris, I request you to forgive her this time. Maybe she didn't hear me properly. I was indeed in a hurry. There's fault on my part too. It was my responsibility to take the prize to Claire Wilson. I shouldn't have asked her to deliver it. I'm sorry. I didn't know she was a new student. "
"Oh you needn't apologize for her mistake," Mr. Morris said affectionately. "So what do you think I should do about this ?"
"Sir, I think you shouldn't call her parents on the first day itself. Please just give her a smaller punishment," he replied politely.
"Miss Wilson, what do you think about this?" he asked the girl who was staying quiet the whole time.
"I think he is right," she replied timidly whilst looking at the guy.
"Okay," Mr. Morris nodded before looking at me. "Miss Turner, I'm letting it slide for once since Mr. Carter requested me. But it won't happen again. If I happen to hear a complaint about you again, you'll be dismissed. Understood?"
"Yes sir," I nodded.
"However you will be having one-hour detention for one week starting today," he said. I thought for a moment about arguing but then I nodded.
"Come here evening and I'll give you a list of topics to write about during your detention."
"Okay sir," I nodded.
"You may leave now," Mr. Morris sighed. I nodded and walked out of the office, not before shooting a glare at the bastard who was standing beside me. I decided he is currently the person I hate the most in the world.
The bell rang soon after I got out of the office. So I walked towards the Maths class angrily, cursing the Carter guy in my head. I got detention on the first day at this school without doing anything. Just because of him! Ahh! I hate him so much. Why did he do this to me? What an arrogant jerk!
But why does Mr. Morris like him so much? He seems to be an evil bitch who pretends to be really good and kind in front of teachers. He doesn't really know whom he messed up with! He will surely pay for this!
I was still very angry when I reached the maths class. I saw Ty sitting at a desk in the third row. He had reserved the seat near him. I walked in and again a few people looked at me in confusion. I didn't bother to smile or explain I'm the new student. I just walked towards Ty and slumped down on the chair next to him.
"Carrie, Is everything alright?" Ty asked me. So, he already understood there was something wrong with me. He always does. I don't know whether I should tell him about this or not. He won't be very happy heaeing it. He is just gonna scold me. But still, I need to tell him.
"I got one-week detention starting from today," I blurted out.
"You got what?" Ty asked in bewilderment, his mouth wide open.
"DETENTION! Are you deaf?" I scoffed gaining attention from a few people sitting around. The boy who was sitting behind me tapped on my shoulder.
I turned around annoyed to meet with attractive blue eyes that looked somewhat familiar. I couldn't help but freeze for a second and admire those beautiful ocean blue eyes which I am very sure I've seen somewhere before. Yet I couldn't remember where.
"What's the problem? Why are you yelling at him?" the owner of blue eyes asked in a cold tone. He was now staring at me with scrunched-up eyebrows.
"Aaron, you don't need to interfere in this. What if she yells at me? You don't need to fucking care. And why are you sitting here? Go sit somewhere else!" Ty spat at him.
Oh wait, what's happening? Ty just cursed! Why is he so angry?
"Dude, what's your problem in me sitting here? I like to sit here, so I sit here. And who are you to tell me to change my seat?" The Aaron guy asked.
Oh wait a minute! Is he that Aaron? Yes! It's his eyes itself I've seen before!
"Ty, is he.."
Before I could finish my sentence Ty cut me off, grabbing my hands and standing up from his chair. "Come, let's go sit somewhere else," then he practically started dragging me towards an empty desk in the back.
"Wait, Is he your childhood sweetheart, the little bunny?"
"Shut up! He isn't my anything," Ty huffed and rolled his eyes before slumping down on a chair, pulling me down to the seat next to him.
"You didn't tell me the bunny boy was here. I thought he was in some other school," I said, glancing at the blue eyed boy, our childhood companion who was still staring at us.
"He was. He joined here last year after he got dismissed from his previous school for entering into some fight. I didn't tell you cause he doesn't concern me anymore. That's all you need to know. And also, I don't talk to him, I hate him. Now stop looking at him and explain me how you got detention on the first day itself? And for one week? What did you do?"
I let out a sigh, once again reminded by my brother about what situation I was currently in. I had forgotten it for a second after meeting Aaron again after so many years.
I now turned my gaze from Aaron and gave Ty a sad look, "Ty, please it's not my fault."
"Okay, tell me what happened," he said somewhat calmly, giving me an understanding nod. I quickly started explaining to him the whole thing and he too was angry once I finished.
"Carrie, why couldn't you tell the truth to the principal?" he asked me.
"I tried but he had endless trust in that bastard. Ty, please don't tell this to your or my parents."
"Okay, I won't," he nodded. "But who is that guy? Is he a senior? How does he look?" I was about to explain his appearance but then the teacher walked in. I didn't want to get one more detention or punishment. So I quickly stood up and greeted the teacher.
Ty remained silent the whole hour as he was carefully doing the problems Mr. Jacob had written down on the board. I on the other hand was watching Aaron who was occasionally turning around and looking at us. I frowned at him once and he did the same. I bet he still hasn't recognised me. I changed a lot from how I looked in 4th grade. He too changed a lot. Who thought he would become something like a fashion model? I wonder where all his chubby cheeks went.
Oh, wait, I haven't really introduced Aaron. Yeah, so he is Aaron Morris..., Uh- no that's not his last name, that's the principal's name. Okay, I forgot his last name. Let's just say he is Ty's childhood bestfriend and his bunny boy. But sadly, Ty now hates him or atleast he claims so, although I don't fully believe it.
The thing is, Aaron stopped being friends with him in middle school when he got selection on the soccer team and got new friends. Ty was a meek kid and a little bit of a nerd in the past. After Aaron stopped talking to him, he was completely lonely and people started bullying him. And Aaron simply let it happen. He didn't do anything even when his own friends started bullying Ty. He even stood with them and watched sometimes. At last, Ty changed schools in 7th grade. And the worst thing is, Ty had a huge crush on Aaron. Yes, Ty like boys. And I think Aaron knew it and that's the actual reason why he started distancing from Ty.
Now you might be wondering how I know Aaron. Aaron was Ty's neighbour. He and his family used to live in the huge house nearby Ty's which had a tree house in the backyard. During summer vacations, I would come here and the three of us used to play in his tree house. His family sold the house and bought another house in the city when we were in 4th grade. I've never seen Aaron after that. The rest is what I've heard from Ty and his Mom. But I honestly didn't know Aaron was here in Harbinger.
And I too don't like him. Whatever his reason is, he shouldn't have left Ty to be bullied and hurt his feelings like that. Afterall they were bestfriends since diapers. Ty had loved him so much. I believed he too genuinely loved Ty. I don't know how he could change like that.
After the maths period, I had Geography. Coincidentally I shared the class with Aaron. He was sitting in the back when I reached there. I too walked to the back and occupied a single desk on the other side, near the window.
After a moment, I felt a tap on my shoulder and I turned to find Aaron now sitting on the desk beside me.
"You joined school today?" he asked.
"Yeah.." I nodded. Although I had once taken a decision not to talk to him again, I couldn't now help but stare at his face and think about the young Aaron.
"How do you know Ty? Are you friends?" he demanded to know.
"Yeah, best friends," I replied.
"Best friends?" he scrunched his eyebrows.
"And also sister."
"Wait!" His mouth suddenly dropped open and eyes widened in surprise. "Are you Ann!?" The next moment he squeled, jumping up from his chair. "Oh my God! You are her! You are Carrie, right?" He laughed looking at me, a pair of cute dimples soon made their appearance on his cheeks. And I found he still have those bunny teeth. He was looking more and more like his younger self as he laughed, the boy who gave me wild flowers and said 'I love you' to me first. Everyone was now looking at us. "Damn! Girl, I couldn't recognise you. How come you became so thin? You were fat!"
"Stop it! I know what you did to Ty," I muttered with a blank face. His face instantly dropped and mouth closed shut.
"I'm not happy to meet you again, Aaron," I scowled with my hands crossed across my chest.
He bit on the side of his lip and sat back in the seat, turning his face to me. "I'm sorry."
"Why are you telling me sorry? Have you ever apologised to Ty?" I asked.
"I have," he mumbled. "He never accepted my apology. He now hates me. And I guess you too hate me."
"Yeah." I snapped.
"I know I was a jerk back then."
"You were."
"But I'm really sorry. I didn't know what to do."
"What do you mean you didn't know what to do?" I asked.
He looked down in lack of an answer. And when he finally looked up and opened his mouth to say something, we were interrupted by two girls fighting for the chair beside him.
"C'mon get up! This is my seat," one of the girls scoffed.
"Shut Up! I sat here first. And how is this your seat? You can't make the seat beside Aaron your seat every day. Now, get lost!" the other girl who was currently sitting on the seat said. I see, so he is the heartthrob of a lot of girls here.
"God! Can you both stop bickering now?" Aaron asked before the other girl opened her mouth to say something. "Gianna, please go sit somewhere else."
"Aaron, it's not that I want to...," the girl sighed pausing her speech halfway. Then she walked away after shooting a glare at the other girl.
He turned back to me and was about to speak again but then the teacher, Mr Williams arrived. He started teaching about the longitudes and I listened, although Geography isn't one of my favorite subjects.
"Hey Ann.." Aaron called while Mr. Williams was writing something on the board. I tilted my head to him.
"Can I call you Ann?" he asked. "or shall I call you Carrie?" I didn't say anything. He used to call me both 'Carrie' and 'Ann' during childhood, although his favourite was 'Ann'.
"So, er..you got a detention?"
I groaned inwardly at the mention of detention but didn't give him a response.
"I too have detention today."
Oh? That means I'll have to see him again at detention.
"By the way, how you managed to get a detention on the first day itself?"
I kept quiet. So he finally shut his mouth. But that was only to open it after a few minutes. "Hey, so you now stay at Ty's home?"
"Can you just shut up? I don't like to talk to you." I scoffed turning to him only to find the girl sitting beside him glaring at me.
"Where was your home actually? I forgot." He then said.
"Perellard," I realised I replied him only after I uttered the word. For a moment I was distracted shooting a glare back at the girl beside him.
"Oh yeah," he muttered. "Why you transferred to here now?"
"Mr. Miller!" Mr. Williams suddenly shouted, almost making me flinch. "What great wisdom are you sharing with the new student over there?"
"Sorry," Aaron mumbled, sitting up straight. Mr. Williams sighed and continued his teaching. He didn't try to talk to me after that. He dedicated his whole attention to the class. He might be a rival to Ty, judging by the way he listens carefully to the class and nods to the teacher.
But I was surprised to find him sleeping peacefully after five minutes, resting his head on the desk. Sorry, my bad. He just said he has a detention today. I should have judged better.
The girl beside Aaron had her whole attention on him now. She was staring at his side profile with a light smile on her face. I scowled at her and averted my attention back to Mr. Williams.
After an hour, the bell rang indicating lunch break. Mr. Williams walked out of the class after leaving a sigh, looking at the still sleeping Aaron. The girl near him gently tapped on his arm and woke him up.
"Class ended?" he asked her, sitting up and rubbing his eyes. It was kind of cute.
"Yeah, it's lunch break," she smiled brightly. "Aaron, can I join you guys for lunch?"
"Yeah..okay." he nodded whilst yawning. Then he stood up and looked at me. "You are having lunch with Ty, right?"
This time he didn't wait for a reply from me. "Bye then, see you at detention. Have a nice meal with the basketballers." With that, he walked away with the girl.
I met Ty at the canteen. He was sitting at a big table along with six other people. The guy, Brent I met in the morning was also there. I also noticed Aaron sitting at another big table at the back of the canteen with the girl from last hour and a lot of other people, all of them talking and laughing.
I sat down beside Ty and everyone at the table flashed smiles at me. I smiled back in response.
"Guys, this is the person you have been waiting for, my sister Caroline. She will be having lunch with us from today," Ty introduced me to them and all of them nodded with welcoming smiles.
He then introduced me all his friends. Two guys other than Brent- Ben and Rhett and three girls Mia, Olivia, and Isabella. All the boys are on the basketball team and Olivia is on the cheerleading team. She is also Ben's girlfriend. The other two girls are her best friends.
All of them were really friendly. We all chatted a lot while having lunch. I was happy that Ty's friends welcomed me warmly into their gang. After lunch, I and Rhett had English together. There was still twenty minutes for the bell and Rhett offered to show me around the school. I agreed and he took me to the volleyball court, basketball court, and the school library. The library was really big with a lot of books. After that, we roamed about through the corridors and finally reached the English class.
Although I like to sit in the back of the class near the windows, I now followed Rhett as he walked to a desk in the middle row, almost in the center of the class. Soon the bell rang and students strolled in like colonies of ants. I was surprised to see Aaron walking in along with the Gianna girl who was fighting for the chair near him earlier. She was talking and smiling to him but he looked kinda annoyed. Anyway, so this is the third hour I'm sharing with Aaron today.
There was an empty desk beside me. So, I thought he might come and sit near us. But he just walked to the last row along with the girl, totally ignoring me. I see, so he decided it's best to avoid me. Anyway, that's good.
Soon the English teacher Mr. Davis walked in. At first, I thought he was one of the students. Seriousluy, he was looking just like a teenager. But then Rhett told me, he is our current English teacher, a temporary replacement for our previous teacher who took maternity leave.
Mr. Davis quickly started the class. He was really interactive and interesting to listen to. Moreover he had a handsome face. I soon decided he is my favorite teacher in this school. But then the girl who was on the desk behind me had to tap on my shoulder and ask me with a smirk, 'You are the new girl who got detention, right?' It destroyed my whole mood. How did the news spread so fast?
The next hour, I and Mia had Physics together. Aaron didn't show up in this class. Finally, after one hour, the bell rang indicating the classes ended. I huffed a sigh remembering I needed to meet the principal and then spend one more hour in the school, writing essays on random topics. Ty had told me that he would wait for me at the parking after his basketball practice so that we can go home together.
I headed to the principal's office and saw Aaron already standing in front of the doors. "Hey!", he waved at me smiling, showing his bunny teeth. I frowned at him. I thought he decided to ignore me. Why is he now smiling at me?
"Here, your topics for detention. Mr. Morris asked me to give this to you," he said stretching a piece of paper to me. I sighed and took it, reading through it.
The first essay was to write about 'the importance of honesty. Then was a totally different topic- French Revolution. Anyway, there were a total of 10 essays for me to complete in a week. And I had to write three pages about each.
"Let's head to the library then?" Aaron asked.
"There isn't a detention classroom here?" I inquired.
"No. Here, the librarian keeps a record of detention," he said and started to walk.
Damnit, now I've to walk with him to the library.
"So...er...why you suddenly transferred to here in the middle of the year?" He asked me whilst walking side by side with me.
I sighed. "I got into some trouble in my previous school."
"Oh.." he uttered, tilting his face to look at me. "What trouble?"
"I told you I don't like to chit chat with you. I cut you out from my friend list the very moment I learned what you did to Ty."
"He liked me, right?" He asked.
"You knew it, hmm?" I asked
"Yeah. And that's why I didn't know what to do. I was afraid he would eventually confess to me. And then I wouldn't be able to give him a reply. I can't make myself to reject him and I can't also love him. So, the only way I found was to distance myself from him. But I didn't think people would start bullying him."
"Why didn't you do anything when your friends started bullying him?" I asked.
"My friends were already suspicious he was gay. And I couldn't let them know. If they knew it, they would start bullying him more. And if I try to help him, they would say I like him and I am gay. I couldn't afford that to happen. I was afraid of being thrown out of the soccer team and all my friends abandoning me."
"So you let Ty be alone and bullied?" I asked. He just looked down and bit down on his lip. "He thought you were his best friend and you'd always stay with him! Have you ever not considered him like that?"
"I've always," he mumbled.
"Liar!" I hissed. "You are a liar, Aaron. If you ever considered him your best friend, you wouldn't have done this."
"I was scared I won't be able to control myself once he confess to me. I was afraid of being called gay. I loved him just like he loved me!"
"What?" I uttered in surprise. I wasn't expecting that.
"Yeah, I like him. It was painful to watch him get bullied everyday. That's why I at last told him to get away from my sight and I hate him. He believed it and now he really hates me."
"You aren't kidding, right?"
"No." he shook his head, sternly.
"Are you gay?"
"No. But I like him."
"Have you had girlfriends?"
He hesitated for a moment to reply. "Yeah."
"How many?"
"I lost count. 8 or 9."
"What the fuck!"
"Not a single one lasted more than a month."
I couldn't help but leave a heavy sigh. "So, you are saying you still like him, hmm? Are you still afraid to come out?"
"No. He wouldn't let me talk to him let alone confess to him."
"I see," I hummed. "I too wouldn't let you talk to me again if I was in his shoes."
"I know," he nodded. "I know it's all my fault. I was foolish, selfish and I was a coward. He has all the right to hate me. I don't deserve him."
I didn't know what to say now. I just kept silent.
"Oh, you didn't tell me what trouble you got into at your school," he said after a moment. "Or you still don't want to talk to me?"
"I punched and broke a jerk's nose," I replied.
"Wow!" He chuckled. "That's so you. I remember, you almost broke my neck once while we were play fighting."
I couldn't help but smile remembering about the old times when the three of us used to play together. I wish that time would come back.
"You got on top of me and wouldn't get off. I had to cry out to help. You were so heavy back then."
I couldn't help but let out an embarassed chuckle causing him also to laugh. Soon we were both laughing like idiots. "You were also chubby, Aaron."
"Not as much as you. And now look at you. Not even half as big as me. What happened? Your parents didn't feed you well?"
"I'm not that small, okay? It's just you are big." I scowled at him.
"Hmm..anyway you got pretty. I didn't expect you to turn into anything like this. Oh, you didn't say why you broke the guy's nose."
"What all you need to know?" I shook my head whilst laughing inwardly at his former sentence.
"Seems like you enter into trouble often," he chuckled.
"What to say? Problems hire a taxi to me without me doing anything," I sighed.
"Same with my case nowadays.", he laughed. "And I transferred to here last year after getting dismissed from my previous school."
"Ty said you got into some fight and got dismissed."
"I actually purposefully entered into the fight to get dismissed. I wanted to join here."
I was again surprised. "And you still haven't managed to talk to Ty?"
"No.." he shook his head.
"How pathetic. By the way, why you ignored me in English class? I know you saw me."
"Cause that Rhett was sitting with you. Ty's friends don't talk to me. And generally Soccer team and basketball team are rivals."
"I see. I thought you decided to ignore me."
"I wouldn't," he shook his head.
"How long is your detention?"
"It would end day after tomorrow. It was actually two weeks long."
"Wow! What did you do?"
"Kissed a girl."
"Wait what?" I scrunched my eyebrows.
"I mean a girl kissed me and made it like I kissed her."
"Wait...er...here you get detention for kissing?" I asked.
"Not if you kiss secretly with each other's concern."
"So what was wrong in your case? You guys kissed in front of the principal?"
"No, it's a long story. First you tell me how you got detention on your first day? Then I'll tell you mine."
"Okay," I sighed and started telling him the whole story from the beginning.
"Wait! How does this Carter guy look? Maybe he is Asher Carter, Ty's best friend. You mentioned he is the top student. Asher is the top senior student and he was the one who won first prize in last day's Maths riddle competition."
"Oh!" I looked at him in bewilderment. "You mean the basketball captain Asher? Don't tell me Ty's bestfriend have extremely pale skin, blonde hair and small grey eyes." I said anxiously.
"Yes! It's Asher itself!" Aaron said clenching his fist.
"Shit!" I groaned looking at him, my mouth dropped open. I couldn't believe it. There's no way that guy is Ty's best friend. How can Ty be friends with such an arrogant jerk? And best friends?? Absolutely impossible!
"Aaron, are you sure there isn't any other Carter who.."
"I'm 100% sure it's him," Aaron suddenly grabbed my hands and started dragging me down the corridor.
"Hey! Where are you taking me?" I yelped.
"To confirm," he said and started running, holding my hands. I ran along with him not knowing where he was taking me. Finally he stopped and I saw we were in front a notice board. Then he left my hand free and pointed at the board.
"Is he the one?" he asked, pressing his finger at the blonde guy who was standing in the middle of a group of basketball players with a trophy in his hands.
" Yes..he is," I panted out, vigorously nodding my head.
Aaron nodded briefly. "Hmm..let's go to the library," he started walking and I followed him behind after taking one more look at the Carter guy.
"You know, he is the one who got me this detention too." Aaron then said.
"What! Really?" I asked in surprise.
"Yup, wanna know how?"
"Yeah..." I said eagerly. If we both have a common enemy then I really want to hear the story.
"Two weeks ago, I was walking through the hallway after soccer practice. Then when I reached the Janitor's closet, someone caught my hand and pulled me inside."
"It was him?" I asked.
"No. It was a girl and then she started kissing me."
"Then?"
He looked away, scratching the back of his neck. "I don't know what caught my head at that moment. I kissed her back. But it didn't even last 5 seconds, cause then the door opened and now it was him. And then that bastard really shut us inside and let the janitor discover us. Then we were taken to Mr Morris' office and there she told him, it was me who dragged her to the closet. He of course believed her."
"Wow! Who is she? They planned it together to trap you?" I asked.
"I don't know. Anyway, I can't reveal her identity. There's strict order from Mr Morris. I shouldn't have actually told you about this."
"Oh.." I muttered feeling deeply disappointed. Not because he didn't trust me enough to reveal to me the girl's identity but because I couldn't believe such girls exist. It's a shame he got trapped by some bitch who made him the victim and then played herself the victim in front of everyone.
"By the way, why does this Asher hate you? Is it again the Soccer- basketball rivalry?" I asked.
"I think he is taking revenge for Ty. He is kind of crazy, doesn't really need any special reason to hate people. And once you happen to get into his bad books, it's difficult to get out. He'll keep on troubling you. And that's what happened to me. Now you too."
"Oh..so he is gonna continue troubling me?" I couldn't help but think about what else he can possibly do to me. He got me one-week detention with what I thought is a love letter. So, he sure can do a lot more.
"Don't worry. He isn't gonna trouble you since you are Ty's sister. You know Ty is his one and only friend."
"I thought so. Who would anyone wanna be friends with such a jerk? I wonder Why is Ty friends with him?"
"The same reason. Asher has only one friend, that's him. And if Asher truly likes somebody, it's Ty. They both are best friends since middle school. And it's not like nobody wants to be his friend. He just won't let anyone."
"Wow! Seriously? There are people who are desperate to become his friends?"
"Yeah, why would anyone not want to be friends with the guy who is the Principal's right hand?"
"Why does Mr Morris like him so much?" I frowned.
"Not only Mr Morris but every teacher in this school loves him. He is a teacher's pet. You know, he brings a lot of trophies to school every now and then, going to various quiz competitions, basketball matches and music competitions. So, he is like a precious gem to our principal. Mr Morris believe everything he says. He doesn't know how much of a bastard he is."
"He is into music too??" I asked.
"He is a good piano player," Aaron left a frustrated sigh.
"Ahh..why do jerks like him get so many talents? I suppose he is rich too?"
"Probably. Nobody here knows much about him. Come on now, we are getting late for detention."
By then we had arrived at the library and we both quickly walked in. We wrote our names and put our signatures on the detention record book the librarian handed us before going to a corner and occupying two chairs. There were a few other students having detention along with us.
"You know, this isn't the first time he got me into detention. He troubles me ever so often. Honestly I don't know what to do with him anymore," Aaron huffed whilst opening his notebook.
"What else did he do?" I asked.
"He went and told my girlfriend, I mean ex-girlfriend how I got this detention and she broke up with me."
"What! You had a girlfriend two weeks ago?" I asked in surprise.
"Yeah.." he nodded.
"No wonder Ty doesn't let you talk to him."
"No, she is the only girl I dated after I joined this school. And I dated her to see if Ty would get jealous. But then that Asher ruined it on the first week itself."
"You are still a jerk! How dare you date a girl just to make Ty jealous?" I scoffed.
"It was an adjustment. She was the one who begged me to date her. And I already told her I would only date her for two weeks."
"Then did Ty get jealous?"
"No," he shook his head. "He didn't care. I think he really hates me. He.."
Aaron paused and I heard footsteps approaching us. I turned to see none else than the librarian standing behind me with a horrible glare on her face.
"You guys are not supposed to sit and talk during detention. If so detention is very entertaining, right?" She snarled looking at us.
"We were actually discussing our topics and thinking what to write," I said.
"That's not allowed. You need to work alone. C'mon, you get up," She said to me.
"Sorry. We promise we'll sit quietly and work," Aaron then said.
"Yeah, so, why do you guys need to sit together?" She asked him and turned to me. "C'mon you get up or I'm reporting to the principal that you were talking instead of doing the detention work."
I cursed her in my mind as I stood up. She made me walk to a far away desk and sit down. I took my notebook and started scribbling down distractedly about 'the importance of honesty.'
The whole time I was thinking about what to do about Ty and Aaron. I need to help Aaron. I need to somehow persuade Ty to forgive Aaron and let him talk to him. They need to be friends again, if not lovers. Also, I need to take revenge on that blondie.
