Chapter 1 Prologue

The accident took a toll on me but most of all leaving behind all alone is worse because your soulmate thought of you as a burden. So he did the best he could do. He ran away the first chance he got.

That bastard not only broke my heart but also left with all my savings and stole my car for which I still have to pay installments because it's in my name.

I thought I was broken after my accident but when he didn't come to see me I realized it hurt more than broken bones.

I wish he had come to me and told me how he felt about my accident. I know doctors said my walking skills could hinder forever or the tremble in my hand could turn worse but I believed in myself. I knew I could make it but I guess he didn't believe in 'me' or in 'us' anymore.

Six months later;

"I am going to New York," I told my parents once I recovered from several physiotherapy sessions. A little tremor in my left hand was all left from my past. But I have come to terms with it. I know I can't give up just because my one hand slightly trembles when I get nervous, stressed, or when I am angry.

My parents looked at me as if I had grown two heads.

"Why do you wanna leave?" My mum asked when she realized I am serious about my decision. My dad didn't speak a word, he waited for me to clear my point.

"I don't know what should I tell you Mama that would make you feel at ease but the truth is I cant feel anything here. I can't live with my past and if I start working here I won't be able to move on. I think moving to a new place would be good for me." I explained softly. Hoping they both understand my position and don't stop me from leaving.

My dad got up and stood in front of me and held my hands softly as he noticed the trembling in my hand as I was stressed about their decision.

"You should never feel that we won't support you when you are thinking to grow and progress in your life Oli. We will always be there and we know how difficult this whole year has been for you." He said softly it instantly calmed me. I hugged him tightly.

"If you think you need to leave this town and go to New York then that's what you should do." He said with determination. My mother also agreed.

Now I only have to inform my brothers that I am going. I have three older brothers. I am the youngest sister and everyone worries about me a lot.

I smiled looking at my parents and thanked them for understanding and supporting me through my decision. I informed them about the appointment letter I got yesterday that stated I cleared the interview for Mr. Adam's assistant at Adams Publishing Company.

Soon I packed my bags and I left for New York leaving every bad memory behind. I hope leaving for a New state would be the best decision.

"I just didn't know what New York had in store for me. I met my Brown-eyed brute, The one who found me!"

New York, here I come!

Chapter 2 Cheers To New Beginnings

Olivia's Pov:

I stepped out of the cab and curiously looked around at the bustling city streets.

It was my first day in a new city and I couldn't help feeling both excited and nervous. I took a deep breath and looked up at the tall buildings that surrounded me, their glass facades reflecting the early morning light. I had always dreamed of living in a big city, and now that dream was finally coming true.

I walked down the sidewalk, I could see people hurrying to work, coffee in one hand and briefcase in the other. I wondered what was going through their minds, are they happy? or are they still rushing towards their job because that's the most suitable thing to do?

The sound of car horns and chatter filled the air, and I felt a sense of energy and excitement that I had never experienced before.

I was wearing a knee-length black skirt with a white blouse tucked in, paired with simple black heels. My long brown hair was pulled back into a high ponytail and with minimal makeup. I dressed appropriately it boosted my confidence a little more.

I quickly reached the entrance of the building where I would be starting my new job.

I paused for a moment and took another deep breath, knowing in my heart that this was the beginning of a new chapter in my life. I was determined to make the most of it.

Leaving my horrid past behind. I quickly put up a bright smile on my face, as I pushed open the door and stepped into the lobby, ready to start my new adventure in 'Adam Publishing Company' as an assistant to Mr.Adams.

The office was a bustling hive filled with activities. People were moving around so quickly, some with documents in hand and others on the phone. The sound of typing and clicking keyboards was making my head spin, punctuated by the occasional ring of a phone or beep of an email notification. All the confidence I felt minutes back started to fall with the event in front of me, and suddenly I felt overwhelmed.

In one corner of the room, a group of colleagues are huddled around a desk, discussing a project. In another corner, a lone employee sits at their desk, eyes fixed on the computer screen as they type away. The clock on the wall ticks loudly, a reminder that time is ticking away.

A manager walks briskly through the room, clipboard in hand, checking in on various employees and offering quick words of encouragement or guidance.

I recognized him. He was the senior manager Mr. Stewart who took my interview. I approached him.

"Good morning! Mr. Stewart." I said warmly while keeping my hands by my side. I didn't want to show him how nervous and intimidating it was, all making me feel. As my hand trembled a little.

"Miss Paul! Good morning, I am glad you are here, I was waiting for you." He smiled at me and I felt welcomed.

"Come let me give you a quick tour of the company during it. I will tell you about what your job entails, and then you can start your job, the boss is in a meeting right now," he explained and started walking forward and I walked behind him without a word.

He leads me through the corridor, pointing out the sleek and modern design of the lobby.

"Here at the reception, Rosie sits here if you have any query you can ask her." He said as we walked by her desk. The receptionist at the front desk greeted me warmly as we passed by.

As they enter the main office area, he explains the open-concept layout, with rows of desks and cubicles stretching as far as the eye can see. The office is filled with natural light, thanks to the large windows that line the walls. He also explained which cubicle and important people I would be required to meet if a certain problem arose.

We walked past a series of meeting rooms, each with glass walls that showcase the dynamic discussions taking place inside. Some rooms are filled with laughter and animated gestures, while others are quiet and focused.

As we continued, he pointed out various departments, each with its unique vibe. The walls are adorned with colorful mood boards and artwork placed on the walls.

In the break room, the guide highlights the various amenities available to employees, including a coffee bar, fridge, and microwave. Glad they give coffee hopefully it's good. A ping-pong table and comfortable lounge chairs provide a space for relaxation and socializing.

Throughout the tour, He emphasized the company's commitment to collaboration, innovation, and employee well-being. He focused on how important it is to be on time as

Mr. Adams likes people who are serious about their job.

As the tour came to an end, we came to the last floor, we stopped at a door on which Mr. Adam was written in bold letters, probably this is the CEO's office.

"So this was it, now you know how things go around here and I hope the other things you will learn quickly as time goes." He said and I nodded my head quickly as I collected myself after the whole tour and briefing on my job. All of this felt new and it made me feel anxious and scared. I looked behind at the lift and I thought to run as fast as possible but I calmed myself thinking about the reason I came to New York in the first place.

I hope I succeed without getting fired in the first week.

"Yes, Sir I understood everything you said," I said to him, looking at him with confidence as I spoke he stepped forward towards my small cubicle beside the boss's office pointed towards an intercom, and showed me how it worked.

"You would press this red button and it would directly connect you to Mr. Adams, then you can transfer any messages, and similarly he can connect with you with his intercom in case he needs you with any work." He explained.

"Now last thing Mr. Adams is in the meeting and he knows you are coming so go to the left and you will find the board meeting room and attend the meeting." He said.

I hurried towards the meeting room not wanting to disappoint my boss on my very first day, but I guess luck is not on my side today, as I smacked my head on the glass door. As I thought it was open.

I fall to the ground on my butt, I rubbed my head, and as I lifted my head I saw several heads looking at me and a quick realization came flashing in my mind. I just made a disaster entry. Forget about getting fired in the first week. I am surely getting fired on my first day. Oops, Cheers to the new beginnings!

Chapter 3 Beautiful, But Rude

Oliva pov:

I stood up and straightened my dress, felt a sharp pain in my ankle, and I couldn't help but wince in discomfort. The silence in the meeting room was deafening as everyone stared at me, waiting for my next move. I felt like I was under a microscope.

I could feel my heart pounding in my chest.

I tried to hide the pain and sat down on the nearest seat as the meeting proceeded.

I felt mortified and I could feel my face flush with embarrassment. My first instinct was to run away and hide, but I couldn't.

Despite the embarrassment and pain, I sat quietly and tried to understand the meeting. As the meeting progressed, I could see a man's constant gaze on me, and my first thought was he was beautiful. I felt increasingly self-conscious and struggle to concentrate on the discussion. I couldn't shake the feeling that everyone might be judging me, especially the brown-eyed man who is still looking at me.

After the meeting ended, I took a moment to compose myself and gather my thoughts. I reminded myself that everyone makes mistakes and that this incident is just a small blip in the grand scheme of things. I hope my boss thinks the same as who I still need to meet and I hope it's not the brown-eyed beautiful man.

Everyone started to get up, I also got up thinking to run to my cubicle and wait for my boss there. As I stepped forward, The brown-eyed man spoke, "Everyone dismissed except for that clumsy girl who came late." he said in a cold voice that gave me chills all over my body.

"Sure Mr.Adams." a voice meekly came from an employee.

Mr.Adams? As in the owner of this company? I started to fret over the possibilities.

I stayed still at my place fearing I would get fired on my very first day.

Soon the room was empty, it was just me and him. I felt more intimidated as the time passed seconds felt like hours. Should I step forward and apologize to my boss whose eyes are so beautiful? Beautiful? Snap out of it Olivia. I shook myself to reality.

"What's your name?" He asked as he said from his chair. He was sitting less than five feet apart from me looking slightly angry and far more handsome than any man had the right to look. I couldn't help but wonder what was wrong with me I can't stop looking at my boss but I know how immorally incorrect it is. I quickly snapped out of my thoughts.

"Olivia Paul," I said slowly, not trusting myself more than I should.

"I have a very good memory and I can assure you that I remember every face I ever see but I know I haven't seen yours before so I am assuming you are new here?" He said with a blank face and I could only muster a small yes.

"I am your new assistant. Today is my first day, Mr.Stewart gave me a brief tour and told me all my duties which are required for this job." I said hesitantly.

He slowly nodded his head in understanding, got up, and left without saying anything further.

"Coffee in five minutes in my office, black with no sugar Miss Paul and I hope this time you will remember how to open doors." He said sarcastically while he slid the door wide open and walked out.

I take my words back, he is not handsome to me, he is utterly rude and arrogant and I pray that I don't hit his head while I am working for him. I quickly moved to the cafe and ordered coffee and walked towards his office.

I reached his office and knocked at the door. "Come in." I heard from inside and I slowly opened the door and went in. He looked up from his file for a moment then again resumed his work.

"Turns out you know how to use the door." He again taunted, still looking at the paper. I had enough of his mocking. I put the coffee on the table. Stepped back and stood in front of the table and looked at him with annoyance.

"I am sure you have better things to do other than taunt me over the morning incident," I said, with all the confidence I could muster in front of him I do look petite but I don't want to feel intimidated by him.

He looked at me with raised eyebrows.

"Well indeed I do have a lot of work and that's where your job comes in, see those files, proofread them, and see if there are any mistakes then it would go for printing as it is due for next week's paper." He said arrogantly. Pointing towards the two files that were placed on the side of his table.

"Yes of course Sir, I will start right away and will let you know when I am done." I said while picking up the files, and walked out.

There are two things I have judged about this man who thinks so highly of himself: one, he's rude, and second, he wants to intimidate everyone while he walks around the place. The bottom line is Lucas Adams likes to have control.
