Chapter 1 The two villains

Kassandra's POV

Kassandra... It means light that should give warmth to the people around them. But I grew up differently. I was a spoiled brat and loved stealing things that other people owned.

Especially since I'm the Madonna of the school, and I'll never let other girls ruin my name or steal my fame. I graduated as Summa Comlaude and remained the most beautiful girl in my class, but I lost the man I love because of that woman.

"It's been three months since that newspaper was published. Why are you keeping that? Also, you always look at that iconic couple. Don't tell me you want to be Cinderella in that story. Come on, wake up from your dream."

Her words made me laugh. A dream? My situation is a dream for me. No... it became a nightmare. I threw the newspaper into my tent.

The first snowfall happened last night, and as usual, we had to find some scraps to sell and hope that we could have a dinner to share. It's been three months since I left that place, and yet... everything feels like it happened yesterday.

"I'll go this way, and you'll be on that route. Make sure to walk on the other side of that church. I heard there's a grand wedding ceremony for certain wealthy families there."

"Okay, don't worry about me. Even if I get into trouble, I already have nothing to lose. Take it easy as well," I remark.

She only smiled and waved her hand as she walked away. I pushed my cart and started finding trash bins. Because of the things that happen to me and how the world turns its back on me, I committed another sin.

Yes, I tried to kill myself by jumping on a river. But that 40-year-old woman saved me. She is living under that bridge, and she never stops giving me words that serve as hopes for me.

I saw a trash bin, and I was happy when I saw some valuable items. I hope we can have a proper meal tonight. As soon as I put those things in the cart, I left and continued to look around.

I stopped in a parking lot in front of that church and decided to put back the trash bin that fell to the ground. It will ruin the beauty of the church, which is decorated beautifully. When I finished, I saw a public restroom.

I get inside and clean my hands. I even washed my face when I saw that they have soap here. I'm lucky. I didn't stink, but this soap reminds me of my lavish life when I was still a part of the Tyler family.

"From an heiress to a garbage collector? What a painful déjàvu..." I murmured to myself.

I left the bathroom when I accidentally noticed a familiar face. I think I heard about or met those two somewhere. I shrug my shoulders and pass over them. I close my left eye when a light hits my eyes because of that. I stop walking and hide in a certain corner.

"That man has a knife and a gun? What kind of people are those two!?"

I peek in and saw them standing on the 2nd door of the church. I look at that man's beautiful face. I knew I'd seen him before!

"Wait a minute, that's Gabriel Cassano." I whispered.

"Sir, the wedding is almost done. I think this serves as a sign for you. Please listen to me. You shouldn't waste your youth because of that woman. Accept the fact that she will never choose you," his assistant says.

I almost laugh bitterly. That was what my best friend said, but I didn't listen. I may be free, but I am now nothing more than garbage. No one will look at me or even care if I die in the middle of nowhere.

"NO! She is mine. No one will have her! How can she forget that promise she made? Why did she choose that bastard!?"

I gasped when I saw the hatred and rage in his eyes. I think I had the same look at the time I pulled the trigger and shot Kayla. No! I must stop this man! For once, I want to save another person who walks on the same path as mine.

"You know me, Markus. I hate when people grasp the things that I want to have," he remarked, and it looks scary to me.

"Yes, I know that. But you have done everything and tried anything just to win her heart, but nothing works. You have to let her go. You saw how beautiful she is, and those smiles on her lips are different. She never smiles like that when she looks at you. What I'm seeing is..." he stops talking.

I saw how his eyes looked furious and fierce. He didn't like what his assistant told him. I close my eyes and bite my lower lip. It brings back memories of the foolish decisions that I made three months ago.

Flashback

"You will never be happy, Harvey! I already told you before. It's either me or this woman in a coffin. But you didn't listen to me. I already warned you," I remark.

I pulled the trigger, and her eyes were begging me. She can't speak because of the duct tape that I put on her lips. I abducted her by acting as the driver of her wedding car. They didn't take my threat seriously, and now I'll prove them how crazy I can be! He runs toward us.

"NO!" he roared.

But to my surprise, the gun didn't release any bullets. How did it happen? Bullshit! Harvey punches me in the stomach before I can check it. I passed out right away.

The flashback ended

I run as well, entering through the same door. I stood at that door first and looked around. The guests started to buzz when they saw them. It looks like they knew who he was, and everyone looks worried and terrified.

The groom shields himself, but the bride changes her position. I think they are exchanging rings because the man is holding his bride's wedding ring.

He grabs something behind him, and I was alarmed. That's the small knife that blinds me. I have to save them. I don't care anymore.

"Why can't you accept it?! No matter how many times you abduct me and force yourself on me, I will never love you! Don't think that what's written in books will happen to us both. What I feel towards you is nothing but hatred!"

He did that? Wait, is he thinking that, like in movies, mafia bosses can make women fall for them after abducting them? He had some twisted ideas. Dark love stories are indeed scary.

"You will come with me or else," he says.

He raises the knife and points at her. The bride looks at him with no fear in her eyes. She became strong after all the things she'd been through.

"Stop it, Gabriel. Accept it already. No matter how many times you tear us apart, we will never leave each other's side. Stay away from my woman!" he says, raising his hand and holding a gun! Oh no! This is getting worse than I thought!

"Then you two should die together!" he roared. I run as fast as I can and hope that I'll make it on time. I have to stop them!

"No!" the bride roared. Everyone was screaming like shitheads.

A gunshot was heard, and blood started to be visible on one's clothes. I gasped and breathed heavily. I hope I finally atone for my sins with this sacrifice that I made. I remember Trinidad, and I just wish I could repay her kindness more than just helping her out.

"Who the hell are you?!" he roared.

I gathered my strength and pushed him. He releases his grip on the knife. That's when I fall to the floor and my vision starts to get blurry. I made it.

"Why did you do that?!" the bride roared. I can't see her face, but I decided to ask a favor in exchange for what happened.

The bullet that his husband releases pierces my right shoulder, while the knife that Gabriel uses stabs my abdomen on my left side. I wonder if someone will claim my body and give me a proper burial. Tears stream down my cheeks.

"Don't... file a case against him. Promise me that you won't."

"Someone call 911, please!" the groom shouts. I tried to turn my face and find Gabriel's face. When our eyes met, I spoke.

"Don't do it again. Accept it. Don't be like me. If you continued to walk down that path, you would live in the coldest corner of the world. Listen to me, please." I mumbled.

I close my eyes because my vision is getting blurry and dark. My body starts to feel numb and cold. This is the end for me.

Chapter 2 That Kassandra Tyler

Gabriel's POV

Her eyes were like the sun. It was fierce, serious, and on fire. She brings chills down my spine because it never happens. I was trained to control the emotions that I should show.

How to impersonate them in specific situations and how powerful I am. I have the power to control my life and take everything that I desire. No one should stop me and if there is someone.

They should close their eyes and lay down in their coffins. But this woman... how did she stop me and instilled fear in my heart?

"Markus, take the car!" I command. Because of my job, I was already familiar with and an expert in first-aid procedures.

Markus runs outside. I rip off my coat and wrap her wounds. I shouldn't move the knife. I slowly carried her up the aisle. I don't care about that damn wedding anymore. My car stops in front of me.

Markus opens the door, and I slowly lay her down. We get in the car and leave the church. He drove the car to the nearest hospital in the area.

"Emergency!" Markus says.

The hospital personnel seem to recognize us. When I told them she had a gunshot wound, they rushed her into the operating room. Her pulses are faint, but she's still breathing. We take a seat outside the operating room.

After a few minutes, I saw Harvey and Kayla approaching us. I stood up and glared at them. Harvey looks at me with the same eyes. Markus gets in between us.

"Enough! both of you! Look what happened because of the silly actions that both of you took! I'm tired of getting in between you!" Markus roared.

His eyes show how serious he is. Both of us retreated and took a seat. Kayla is no longer wearing her wedding gown. The doctor came out and looked at us. He must be wandering. Who among us is her family?

"What happened?" I ask. I can tell that he brings bad news.

"She needs a blood transfusion. But her blood type is one of the rarest ones. She's type AB+, and we need it quickly."

"I'm AB+." I remark. He looks worried and hesitant.

"Just do it," I stated.

He sighed and told me to follow him. I walk into the operating room. The nurse starts to extract my blood as soon as I lie down on the hospital bed. After a few minutes, they gathered the four bags that they needed.

After two hours of operation, she was transferred to a VIP room. She was saved, and for the first time, I was relieved that my weapon didn't damage her internal organs.

Harvey and Kayla insist on staying until that woman wakes up. The nurse needs to ask about her personal details when she comes back to check on her situation. But who is she anyway?

"Sir, how can we answer the nurse? We don't have any idea about her," Markus says.

I turn around and face her. I also asked for a bed because I was dizzy after I donated my blood.

"She looks familiar." I think I saw her somewhere. Kayla says.

"I think I know who she is," Harvey says. He looks at her.

"She's the heiress of Tyler Group. She is Kassandra Tyler."

"Kassandra Tyler? The one who kidnapped her stepsister on her wedding day?" Kayla says. She looks at her. I look at Markus.

"You know what to do," I remark.

He nods and leaves the room. I know he will call our intelligence team to work on this woman's background. I closed my eyes, and I knew Harvey wouldn't dare to kill, especially since we were in the hospital.

"You can leave her with us. I will never trust her to someone like you. You're a monster," Kayla remarked.

I just scoffed and ignored her. A monster? I was raised to be one and throw away my humanity. Nobody ever taught me the opposite. I turned around and decided to go to sleep. I need to rest and recuperate.

When I open my eyes, it's already morning, and those two are sleeping on the couch. I saw their wedding ring, and I guess they finalized their wedding ceremony and followed us here. I look at that woman, and she's still sleeping soundly.

"No! No! Wait!" she yelled, and her face was turning from her sides. I think she is having a nightmare. I tap her cheeks.

"Hey, wake up. Wake up!" I remark.

She gasps and opens her eyes. She looks at me and looks around the room. Those couple wakes up and they glared at me. Marks came in, and he's holding a paper bag. I think he bought us some breakfast.

"Where am I?" she asks. Kayla looks at her with gentle eyes.

"Don't worry. You are safe now. Do you want some water?"

"You... did you grant my favor?" she asks while staring at Harvey. Is she talking about what she said yesterday?

"Yes. As you can see, he is standing there. Don't worry about your expenses here. I'll take care of it," Harvey replied.

"I'm glad. Can I talk to him privately, and then I'll talk to you guys after? Is that okay?" she asks. Kayla nodded and faced me.

"You better not do anything. If something bad happens, you know what will happen next if something bad happens," Kayla threatens.

"Let's go. Remember what Kayla says," Harvey added. They left, and when the door closed, Markus guarded the door.

"Who are you?" I ask. I want to know if she will tell me the truth. I wonder if she'll deny that she's Kassandra Tyler, an heiress.

"Gabriel Cassano, a ruthless man, but one who is admired by women who love bad boys. I'm sorry for interrupting yesterday. When I heard your plans while talking to your assistant, my instinct kicked in. I remember everything that I did, and I want to save you from having the same fate as mine," she whispers.

I can see the tears that brim over her eyes. She must be Kassandra. Harvey's claim seems to be true. I slid into the chair and took a seat.

"I will never be like you. Even if I killed them both, it's easy for me to twist the laws. I have no parents or even grandparents who can kick me out. How can I end up like you? You are a homeless person now, aren't you?" I ask.

She laughs bitterly. She shows what she really feels. Her face and eyes express her pain and loneliness. What is wrong with me? How can I find myself sorry for this bitch? She stops me from acquiring my happiness.

I shouldn't show such empathy. This is something I never do to anyone, not even Kayla. especially when I kidnapped her and forced her to love me. I pampered her and even showed gentleness to her, but she kept betraying me and escaping as always.

"If you killed them both, do you think you would be happy?"

"Of course. I will be very happy. Isn't that obvious, huh?"

"No... you will never be happy. While thinking about and planning your revenge, you will think you were. But when you did it, what was left for you was emptiness. You will never be happy, and the void that was in your heart is scarier than being killed. Your heart will feel cold, and the pain will be like a thousand needles pricking every cell in your body. It is far deeper than death. That's why I stopped you and that man," she murmurs.

She looks at me and meets my gaze as if she wants to show me how serious she is. I never thought someone would give me such advice. No one ever dared to defy me, and Markus's advice was not like hers.

He gives me possible outcomes, but she gives me what I'll find after I do my plan. I raise my hand and caress her cheeks. She didn't tremble or startle. I can feel her warmth and the softness of her skin.

This is the first time that women didn't flinch when I touched them or have a flash of fear in their eyes. She suddenly giggles and looks at the ceiling.

"Did you know that I also say those words? That if Michael doesn't choose me, then I'll kill Queenie? I even say that I'll kill myself after I kill them. But look what happened. I lost my status and the meaning of my life. So please, stop it."

"You've done your best, but she really loves that man. You can find happiness in other things, and who knows? You'll find someone who will catch your interest. Give her up, for your peace and happiness," she says. She turns around and faces the other side. I look up and think things over. Someone, huh?

"Why not? You already said it. You can be my special slave..."

Chapter 3 Intentions in between

Kassandra's POV

My neck stiffened, and my eyes were wide open out of surprise. I'm glad I was facing the other way, or he'd notice my expression. He grabs my shoulder and turns me around to face him. I saw an evil smirk on his lips and that serious expression in his eyes. What kind of trouble have I put myself into?

"W-what are you talking about? I said you should take my advice, but I never said that you'd use me for it. How can you be a hooligan to the woman who saved your dignity!?" I roared.

He just smirks and looks meaningfully at her. I'm more concerned about the problems I've caused by being nosy. But why is that? I don't feel any regret for what I did! Is this what it feels like when you make a good choice and don't wish for other people's sadness?

A smile formed on my lips. I never thought I'd be able to make such a sacrifice for other people's sake. I have been the villain in other people's stories. I've been a spoiled brat since I was a kid, and I love bullying random people.

Because my dad pampered me, he only paid for the things I destroyed or just gave money to the parents and school to shut their lips at once.

"What are you smiling at?" he asks. I shook my head.

"Can you tell them to come inside? Please stay outside and let me talk to you privately. Please..?" I begged. He sighed and stood. They both leave my room, and that couple enters.

"I hope he didn't hurt you," Harvey says. I shook my head and forced myself to take a seat, leaning against the headboard of my bed.

"I hope that you disclosed what happened yesterday, Mr. O'Neil. I know I've asked too much, but that's the best thing for you and him. After all, he didn't care what the public said because he was a mafia boss. If I'm not mistaken, the Cassano Mafia is the strongest on this continent," I said.

They both nodded, and I noticed a weird habit about this couple. They can't look at me in the eyes for a longer period of time. This woman looks at Gabriel with disgust and hatred.

The husband looks at him with rage and... deathly seriousness. I can sense that something is odd about them. Yes, they love each other, and I can see that. But why can't I erase this feeling?

"I'm not going to inquire about your relationships with him. As for the payment of my bills, don't worry about it. I might be homeless and unwanted now. I still have my pride and dignity. I will serve as a janitor if that's the only way I can repay my bills. Also, whatever your reasons and circumstances for your hatred toward each other, this is the only thing that I can say. Your hatred will only bring uncertainty and infinite despair."

"Miss... Tyler. Please accept our assistance. My husband and I are willing to help you out. We will talk about this matter after you're discharged," the woman says.

I simply smile and insist that I don't need their help. I will be fine. I don't want to owe someone from the same circle as my parents. Also, I have to trust my gut. I don't know what's wrong, but owing these two is deadly.

I have to be careful and make sure they won't show any interest in me. They knew that I am a Tyler, and I have to make sure that my family and that man won't hear anything from me again. That's what I promised before I walked away.

"We will leave for now. But here's my calling card. Call me or go to that place to meet me up, okay?" she says.

I grabbed the card and nodded. They both take some steps back when that man stops walking and turns around. He looks at me with a serious expression.

"Don't trust that man. He is a psycho and a racist. Don't believe his words, or else you will be dead," he remarked.

He grabs her hand, and they leave my room. Those two came back, and he saw the card in my hands. I hid it away, and he didn't care about it. Or maybe he does. He was seated on the other bed.

"I don't need any help now. I will talk to the doctors and ask them to put me in the cheapest ward. I will work for my bills. You two can also leave. Thank you for everything," I stated.

"Okay," he says.

His assistant seemed to be hesitant, but he followed him, and they left. I sighed in relief. What I like about being homeless is that I learned a lot. Of course, being a bitch is my second nature, but I will be like that when needed.

I knew Trinidad was worried now. I wish we had phones that we could use to communicate. She became a mother to me. After mom died 10 years ago, I never felt such warmth, and I found that in Trinidad.

I should cheer up and recuperate faster. I was surprised by the past few days that I spent here in the hospital. They didn't transfer me to the cheapest ward and just continued to serve me. I knew one of them was paying my bills secretly. I have to be careful about what will happen next.

"Good afternoon, ma'am. Your discharge paper is ready, and here are your medicines. It was all completed, so come back here after one week for your follow-up check-up. Don't miss taking your medicines, okay?" the nurses say.

I smiled and nodded. I insisted that I didn't need a wheelchair, but they told me to just follow their protocols. They send me to the lobby.

"Thank you," I remarked and smiled at him.

I stood up and saw the clothes I was wearing. They said someone left this dress, and I should wear it because my clothes were torn because of the incident. I sighed and walked away.

But all of a sudden, as I step out of the door, three men step in front of me, and the other one opens the car door. I knew it. My hunch was right.

"Ma'am, please get in," he says.

I tried to find a way to escape, but I knew I wouldn't be able to. I step inside the car, and the two guards are seated on my side and in the two seats in front.

They drove the car, and all I could think about was how to get away from whoever was dragging me out of the hospital. When we arrived at the mansion, my heart was beating so fast that I started to feel nervous. They opened the car door, and I came out.

"Ma'am, follow us, please," he says.

I just do what he says. I remember our mansion. We are living in an exclusive billionaire subdivision here in L.A. But this place... it's Beverly Hills, and I knew this house cost hundreds of millions.

Our eyes meet, and that's when I realize that I'm being watched by Gabriel Cassano. He is sitting prominently, as if I were watching the introduction of a protagonist or antagonist in a movie or drama.

He gave me a seat on the couch. I followed him and looked at him with dignity. I know I have nothing to brag about, but I have to show my pride. He told his men to leave us. His secretary followed him too, and they both left at once. He coughed.

"I never thought you would look stunning when you dressed the way you've always been. You're much prettier personally than these," he says.

He raised his hands, which were holding some of my photos. What would I even expect? Of course, he will conduct a background check. He placed some photos on the table, and I saw Michael and Queenie, who looked happy.

I was hurt. I already knew that I had no right, but-no. I grabbed the photos and tore them apart. His brow furrows as he laughs.

"Do you want to hear how happy they are? You are suffering while your stepmother and stepsister are leaving the royal life because of your dad. Poor you," he says in sarcasm. I scoff.

"Are you trying to trigger me, Mr. Cassano? Oh well, you succeeded, but at the same time, I'm not bothered at all. My dad spoiled me because he didn't love me. He cares less about me and just gives me everything I want as a façade. He is a billionaire anyway, and he needed to maintain his name. Even if I died, I'm sure the government would bury me somewhere. He wouldn't claim my body or even mourn for it."

I saw how his eyes showed amusement. I have no intention of begging my father if he closes his heart to me, and I know that my stepmother is the woman he truly loves. My mom suffers because she never feels my dad's love, not even once.

"So, what is the reason you asked me here? Don't tell me you will abduct me like you did to Kayla." I asked.
