Chapter 1 Sweet scent

Clara

The mall is so crowded today that I start wondering if there is a special discount sale going on. I squeeze my way through the overly excited customers and go to the food section. Am I missing out on something here? It's not that I am always informed about what is happening in this area or Pack but I am just wondering...

I grab the groceries that I have come in here for and head to the receiption to get them packaged. There is quite a queue there. I am still wondering why there are so many people doing shopping tonight. I stand in line and wait for those who arrived before me to be taken care of, like a good girl.

I mentally roll my eyes at my own thoughts. Sure I can be a good girl if I want to but I just don't like acting dumb and all nice. I don't want people to step on my head. I always keep my head up. Most people in my Pack think I am proud because I am the Alpha's daughter, but I don't give a damn what whoever thinks of me.

Later, I get my turn to be attended to. I pay for the groceries and walk out the door.

A sweet tantalizing mouthwatering scent hits my nostrils making my wolf awaken. I stop dead in my tracks and look around for what it could be. The sweet scent keeps invading my nose into my entire living system.

I know I should be on my way home and it is getting late, but my instincts won't rest until I find where the sweet scent is coming from. I walk past the mall following the scent. It keeps getting strong every step I take.

I walk through the dark alley beside the building. This is creepy enough to make the hairs at the back of my neck raise but my wolf seems is very excited.

Mate! my wolf pants.

What? Wait...

The scent is so strange. I can tell that it is definitely not a human's but it doesn't seem to be a wolf either. What is going on here? Where the hell am I going?

The bag of groceries is getting bulky in my hand. I should take it home but my wolf doesn't seem to mind if I drop it where am standing and follow the sweet scent like a hypnotized woman.

The alley is narrow dark and quiet. This is a bad idea, my subconscious mind warns me but my wolf doesn't care about anything else other than finding out where the scent is coming from.

I have left my groceries behind. Someone might grab them and run away. I look back to where I left them but it is so dark I can't see anything other than the dim light from the street where I have come from.

Something moves!

What was that? A swift light move so fast I almost didn't notice it. The scent becomes so strong my mouth starts to water. Ummmm.....

Something moves again and this time from behind me. My heart starts pounding so loudly in my ears. Someone is standing behind me. I can hear the soft breathing with my heightened werewolf senses. I should be running away or something. Hell! I should be screaming my lungs out being in this dark alley with someone strange standing quietly behind me. Bad things could happen!

Mate! Mate! Mate!

My wolf keeps panting. Our mate!

I have tried my best to ignore what my wolf is trying to tell me.

"Are you lost?" a firm but gentle manly voice cracks from behind me making my entire body shudder. I am still looking away from him. I don't know if it is because of the fear to finally meet my mate, the one single person I have spent my entire life waiting for.

I can feel his presence behind me. It is so strange how much comfort I feel right now knowing that he is finally here. I close my eyes and try to think of a sensible thing to say or do.

I turn slowly and face him. He is pretty tall, that is all I am able to see in this dark alley. I can see he has a well shaped head.... wait? What am I thinking about?

"Are you alright?" he inquires from me. God! His accent! So damn hot and foreign!

"Umm... No. I was just looking around...." I stammer.

Even my answer sounds really ridiculous in my own ears.

"Are you sure? I mean you seem lost to me. What would you be doing here in this dark alley by yourself?" he doesn't seem to be convinced by my idiotic reply.

"Nothing. Anyway, I was on my way out of here," I coward out and walk away from him.

I don't know why but I need to excuse myself from him. My wolf frowns sadly but I ignore her and walk away without looking back. I can feel his eyes pinned on me as I grab my bag of groceries, which were miraculously still there.

Damn it! I can't just walk away. There is a high chance that he could be my mate. My wolf already sensed that. I could just walk away and never see him again.

I look back and find him still standing where I left him. I wish it was bright enough so I could have a clear view of what he really looks like.

He is standing in front of me in a blink of an eye. Whoa! Werewolves can walk quickly but not that fast. Him being near me again makes my body heat up again. He tilts his head to one side and studies my face. I can feel his stern gaze penetrating my skin and his presence dominating my body. I feel the need to lurch myself into his embrace and beg him to take me with him, but I have to keep my dignity at least.

"Hi," is all that I manage to mumble.

He chuckles softly and my tension lightens a bit. At least I am able to see the firm edges of his jaw and outline of his cheeks. His hair is neatly combed on his head and his clothes look formal enough though a bit old fashioned.

He walks nearer to me so that his intoxicating scent makes me nearly drool. I stand still and stare as he lowers his head to my neck. His breath is so warm on my skin.

I think my subconscious mind has passed out because I can't think of anything sensible to do right now other than letting this stranger get on my skin.

"You are not human, are you?" he asks me while sniffing my hair.

"No, I am a werewolf," I reply in a voice very small it comes out like a whisper. I don't feel worried about exposing my identity to him and luckily, he doesn't run away.

"Mmm... I see," he mumbles while sniffing my neck, his breath caressing my skin. I think I am going to pass out because of all the excitement my body is having right now.

"You have such a sweet scent," he whispers.

Oh, god! I thought it was the other way round.

"You too," I murmur. My throat feels dry.

He wraps one hand around my waist and pulls me into him. His body is hard and firm. I shudder at the contact.

"Have you been stalking me?" he asks me without looking at me. Have I? I didn't even know who it was. I was just following the scent.

"I was just following your scent," I reply.

"Why?"

"I don't know. I just couldn't help it. I thought you were my mate," I reply and bite my lip so that I don't continue. Doesn't he feel the mate bond? Am I the only who is feeling it?

"Your mate?" he asks in surprise. He finally looks in my eyes. So he doesn't feel it. My wolf recoils in hurt. She's hurt because he doesn't feel what she feels for him.

"I'm so sorry. This must be a misunderstanding. I will be on my way," I say while trying to hide the frown on my face. I try to pull myself out of his grip but he is so strong. He later releases me and I walk away without looking back. I am on the verge of breaking into tears.

This is not what I imagined would happen when I finally met my mate. I wanted him to feel the mate bond and look for me the way I have looked for him. I wanted us to smile and cuddle in the tightest of embraces, but maybe that was all in my head.

Chapter 2 My werewolf Partner

Damien

I thought I was running wild when something started smelling wonderful in this damn alley, but when I found this girl, I don't know what to think anymore. Now she has turned her back to me and she is walking away!

What have I said? She looked very hurt before she walked away.

"Wait!" I call out and she stops but does not look back. I don't know why but I feel like I can't just let her walk away like that. I dash towards her and stop behind her. She called me her mate.

I know werewolves get mates at a certain point of their lives whom they are supposed to live with for the rest of their lives, but I am not a werewolf. A few werewolves get human mates, but I am a vampire. I have never heard of a werewolf being mated to a vampire.

"I am sorry if I said something wrong," I tell her while running my hands through my hair.

"No, it's okay. I mistook you for someone you aren't," she replies without turning to look at me. Her words are calm yet heavy with emotion. Why do they make my heart ache so much when she says I am not what she thought I was?

"Look at me," I ask her. She first hesitates to respond but later turns and looks me in the eyes. I can now see the beautiful delicate outline of her face. She has been brown eyes and jet-black silky hair which Cascades down her shoulders in waves.

"I am a vampire. I mean werewolves can't get vampire mates," I tell her. She doesn't seem affected by my identity.

"Who said that?" she asks me with a slight shrug of her shoulder.

"So you still want me as your mate even after knowing that I am a vampire?" I ask her with disbelief unfiltered in my voice.

"It is heaven's plan that I should have a vampire mate. I can't go against it," she replies.

"You can't just accept that like you don't have a choice," I tell her.

"Don't you want me as your mate?" she asks me with a small dying voice. The silence that follows is very deafening.

"I never said anything about not wanting you," I say.

"Gosh! I have been waiting for my partner like for decades now!" And I can't believe I finally found you. I don't add the last one but her eyes grow wider when she hears that.

I reach nearer to her and run my hand down her cheek. Her skin is so soft, so warm. She flinches a little at my touch but then relaxes.

"Why are here on your own?" I ask her in a soft calm tone. She raises the bag in her hands a little as if it is very obvious.

"Are those groceries? You should go home and start cooking," I tell her and she gives me a small smile.

"Don't you want to go home?" I ask her with a smirk. She shakes her head and then closes her eyes. She leans her face into my hand, submitting to my touch.

Why doesn't she want to go home? Is she tortured there. My muscles tense at the thought of someone mistreating her in any way.

I try getting the bag from her but she holds it tighter so that I am unable to get it.

"Come on. I will take you home," I say but she shakes her head, no.

"Clara! Clara!" someone calls from the street and Clara immediately opens her eyes.

"Are you with someone?" I ask her.

"No," she replies while fidgeting to get away from me and create as much distance from me as she can.

"I think I should go now," she says.

"What? Wait!" I call out. She is leaving? Just like that?

She gives me a bright smile and turns to walk towards the street. I watch as her figure disappears and she is gone!

Damn it! That was very brief. I have every thought of following her and knowing who she has gone with or finding out where she lives but I have to refrain myself.

Whoa! I haven't felt this energy in years!

I get on my heels and walk back home. The house we live in is a bit isolated from the town. That is for the good of our Clan's privacy. Vampires, unlike werewolves prefer to live in quiet isolated places where there is little interference from the town.

Werewolves can live with and interact with people at anytime of the day, unlike us. Our movements are limited during the day, so we move a lot at night.

Everyone in the house has gone out, except for Amber, Victoria and Luther. I think the rest have gone out to feed.

"Oh, you're back," Amber says while getting up from the couch as if she has been waiting for me all this time that I have been gone.

Victoria and Luther are partners. They have have been together for a very long time, probably for as long as I can remember. Amber, however, is single. She has been trying to convince me that we could be life partners but I really consider her as my little sister. I can't imagine myself in a sexual or any romantic relationship with her.

"The house is pretty quiet. Where is everybody?" I choose to ask the most obvious question and walk past Amber who frowns in disappointment.

"Raul told me that there is a new bar that opened today. They work all night," Luther replies with an amused smirk.

"Raul, that drunkard! Always looking for an opportunity to get himself out of his mind!" I say and take a seat beside Luther. He leans closer to me and dramatically sniffs my coat.

"And where have you been?" he asks me with a huge

grin covering his face.

"In town," I reply in an emotionless voice, trying sweep him off the matter, but he doesn't back off.

"In town, doing what?" he asks me while raising his eyebrows to persuade me. "With who?" he continues.

Damn! He is not going to give this up. I am very well aware that Clara's scent is still all over me. Maybe I should tell him. There is no need to hide it from him. He will find out the truth anyway. I take a deep breath before spilling the beans.

"I think I found my life partner," I finally tell her. He looks shocked for a moment and his eyes grow unbelievably wide. His eyes immediately land on Amber who is standing in front of me with a similar expression. What! Why do they look extremely surprised? They all knew I had to find my partner someday anyway.

"What's with the face?" I ask them.

"Are you sure she is the one?" Luther aks me.

"I am very sure. I am her mate."

"Mate? Is she a werewolf?"

"Yes, she is a werewolf," I reply.

Luther and Amber exchange looks before he continues his interrogation.

"Where is she? Did you bring her with you?" he asks while looking at the entrance of the house.

"No, ofcourse not. She had to go home. She probably belongs to a pack or something," I reply. I wish I had brought her home before whoever interrupted our moment came in.

"I am so happy for you, man! Finally you have someone," Luther says with a beaming grin while patting my shoulder. Amber angrily rolls her eyes. She is already jealous of my partner even before she has met her.

Chapter 3 Addicted already

Clara

Emily still can't get over the fact that I just met my mate. The look that she is giving me right now is showing me that she is still in shock.

"And you let him go just like that?" she asks me with utter disbelief in her voice.

"Come on. I just met him," I reply, buy in reality, I wish I had followed him to wherever he was going.

"Why is that an excuse? He is your mate so it doesn't matter if you met right now or years ago," she says.

"If he really is my mate, then we will have to meet again, eventually," I tell her with a hopeful smile. I hope the moment comes soon.

I can still feel his cold but smooth hand caressing my cheek. I want to feel that again. I haven't told Emily that he is a vampire, or else she will freak out. We all know how father hates vampires.

Vampires and werewolves have never been at good terms. The werewolves haunted the vampires and vice versa. Since they are all immortal, the conflicts went on forever.

I know very well how much father has always wished that I could get a fancy Alpha mate from a great pack. Not that he cares so much about my well-being. He just wants to expand his connections and get more Allies.

Father cares so much about my elder brother, Jason because he is his successor. He gives him all his time and attention to groom him into a strong man. He wants him to be a powerful Alpha someday.

I am not jealous of his identity as the next Alpha of the Halfmoon pack. I don't give a damn about politics anyway. Even the little attention that my father gives me is stressful enough. He wants me to be a smart Lady and get an Alpha mate, which I don't want. I don't want to run from a political house and join another.

All I ever wanted was a mate who cared about me and would give me unconditional love. Whether Rogue, human or werewolf, I don't mind. Now my choice has come out of the box. He is a vampire. I know dad will fume when he finds out.

"Have you been paying attention to what I have been saying?" Emily snaps me out of my reverie. I had already forgotten about her.

"What?" I ask out of confusion. Damn, this mate bond has got me day dreaming. Well, it is already night time. Emily just shakes her head in disbelief.

"I was saying that when are you going to introduce him to the pack? At least to me. I am your best friend, right? You are the first person I introduced to Matt," she says.

"Come on. I also just met him. We didn't get to talk much. God! I didn't even ask him his name," I say.

"Oh, I hope I wasn't the cause," she says while scratching the back of her neck. Ofcourse you were! I shout in my head but I don't say it. I just give her a small smile and we walk away.

My father is planning the engagement party for my brother, Jason with his mate Riley. The whole pack is busy in the preparations. I heard that he has invited many Alpha's and their Betas, especially the unmated ones hoping that I will be able to find my mate. I am still debating on whether to tell him that I have already found my mate or to just keep quiet.

The moment my father finds out that I have found him, he will do anything to find him. He will be eager to find out where he lives, his status, if he is from a powerful pack or not. I don't know if he will be disappointed or angry when he finds out that he is a vampire.

My head has been buzzing with thoughts since I met the sexy vampire in the Alley near the mall. My wolf is extremely restless. She wants to be with her mate, but I still have to put myself together. I don't even know where he lives.

What if it was all a mistake? I mean it was very brief, almost as if it never happened. The ghostly remainders if his touch still linger on my skin and his sweet scent is still around me. Gosh! I feel like a drunkard.

I get out of my room after trying to get him off my mind but in vain. I know a quick run in the woods will do me some relief. My wolf will be finally free from being locked inside with all those emotions.

I walk down the long wound staircase in the main pack house. The house is pretty huge because many wolves live in here. The pack house is where the Alpha and Luna live with their family. Also visitors from other packs stay at there during their time of staying. Most pack celebrations are held inside. Actually, that is where my brother's engagement is going to be held here.

It is late in the night: past midnight, but I haven't been able to get a tiny bit of sleep. I feel very alive. I walk into the woods and remove all my clothes. The moon is shinning brightly in the sky so the woods aren't that dark. I am transform into my wolf which surfaces with a howl.

My wolf is a big silver grey wolf with a pure white tail and face. That is how my mother's wolf looked like. She was killed in a pack war five years ago, but all the memories we created together are still fresh in my mind.

I run through the woods, down towards the stream in hopes of getting my mind cleared. The air is very refreshing as it runs through my fur giving me the comfort I am looking for.

The sweet scent from a few hours ago fills my nostrils again making them flare. Mmm, my wolf purrs at the smell of her mate. She follows the scent without thinking twice. Her senses are very heightened at this moment with no disturbances. Nothing is going to come between her and finding her mate.

Is he hear, in the woods? What would he be doing here? Did he come after me so as to find out where I live? I swoon mentally at the romantic gesture.

The scent leads me deeper into the woods towards the territory of the Silverclaw pack. It is not allowed for pack members to roam on another Pack's territory without permission. It would be intruding and it is highly punishable.

I stop by the stream boundary and rethink about crossing it and following the scent. my father would be very furious if I got myself into trouble and caused the pack problems.

The scent gets very strong and irresistible. Where are you? I look around the stream. The water is not that deep I can walk through it and cross the stream. Just as I am about to dip in my front leg in the water,

"I wouldn't do that if I were you," a familiar voice sounds from behind me. I immediately turn and find the heart's most wanted standing there, leaning against a tree. I rejoice within, and wonder if he can recognize me. I am in my wolf form. He doesn't even know how my wolf looks like, does he.

He tilts his head to one side and looks at me with a nonchalant look. I start debating in my mind if I should transform in front of him and show him that it's me. Damn! I left my clothes behind.

So what if he sees you naked. He is your mate anyway, my wolf tells me but I ignore her.

I don't know if he noticed my state, because he removes his long coat and gives it to me.

"You can put this on," he says with a secret smile playing on his face.

I stand behind a tree and transform quickly. I pull on the coat. Luckily, it corners everything up to my knees though there is a good amount of cleaverage showing.

After making sure I am good to show, I dash into his embrace and wrap my hands tightly around his neck. He doesn't stop me, though I caught him off guard. He also wraps his hands around my waist and pulls me closer into him.
