Chapter 1 Proposal

"Dante, when are you going to break up with Selene? Every single time I see you two together, I go crazy from jealousy!"

"Cassandra, relax. You're the one I love. Can't you tell? Or should I show you in some other way?"

"Do you also make Selene happy in bed?"

"No. I'm not interested in touching her. Her breasts are nowhere near as soft and supple as yours."

"Ouch! You're hurting me. And keep it down, I'm scared the others will see us. After all, our relationship hasn't been made public yet."

"Don't worry. The guests are busy guzzling down champagne in the garden. No one will come to the second-floor bathroom. Babe, I can't stand it. Let me fuck you already..."

......

Standing outside the bathroom, Selene was expressionless, but her trembling hands gave away her true emotions.

Through the crack between the door and its frame, Selene could only see the man's back, but she could easily recognize Dante's hoarse voice.

Selene and Dante had been together for four years. Now, he was fucking another woman in some god-awful bathroom.

That woman was Selene's cousin, Cassandra.

Cassandra wrapped her bare legs around Dante's waist. Lust was written all over her pretty young face.

Selene found herself unable to move a muscle. Her heart ached, as though she had been stabbed in the chest.

They were at a family gathering.

Selene had dressed up for the occasion, wearing a dress as white and pure as snow, fit for a wedding. Yes, she was planning to propose to Dante tonight in front of friends and family.

Dante was every woman's dream boy, as he was the son of the richest man in Athens.

It had been her dream to be his woman, to be called Mrs Dante and introduced to his family.

But at this moment, that dream was shattered.

Selene blinked and snapped back to reality. She took a few steps back, trying to escape this horrific situation.

But she was so dazed that she ran into a shelf behind her.

Hearing the commotion outside, Cassandra screamed in a panic. "Oh, no! There's someone out there!"

Immediately, there was a scuffling noise inside the bathroom. The couple inside seemed to be busy getting dressed.

Selene turned around in a panic, trying to escape this nightmare.

But her white lace dress got caught on a rack.

Selene scrambled, trying her best to untangle it, but it was futile.

She could hear footsteps approaching from inside the bathroom.

Selene gritted her teeth and yanked at her dress hard, regardless of anything.

With a crisp noise, the beautiful lace dress ripped down the front. The fabric on the chest split wide open, revealing her full cleavage.

Selene had no choice but to cover her breasts feebly with her arms.

She stumbled down the stairs, having no time to fix herself up.

Cassandra and Dante soon caught up with Selene and blocked her way.

They had gotten dressed impeccably, whereas Selene looked disheveled, her dress torn. They stood in front of her calmly as though they were not the ones who were caught having sex in the bathroom just now.

Cassandra looked Selene up and down, smiling contemptuously. "Selene, how dare you mess around with another man at Dante's family gathering? Look at yourself! Have you no shame? Even your dress is torn. You look like a prostitute who has just finished off a client!"

She deliberately spoke in a loud voice, drawing the attention of the guests outside. Soon, a crowd had gathered around them.

Selene clutched the ripped fabric on her chest and tried to explain, "I wasn't the one who messed around tonight. I came here to propose to Dante. I'm not the one who's cheating! It's-"

Before she could finish her sentence, Dante cut her off abruptly. "Proposal? No way. I can't get married to a slut like you! The person I'm going to marry is Cassandra."

A teardrop rolled down Selene's cheek. She looked at him in pain mixed with disbelief, saying, "I have done so much for you. How could you do this to me?"

"Excuse me. I'm the one who has done a lot for you! I've been taking care of your family for a while now. Your poor and wretched family is only rich now because you sold yourself to me. The least you could've done is be loyal to me. But you couldn't even do just that!" Dante spat, trampling on Selene's dignity mercilessly.

"Dante, I would never cheat on you. You know how much I love you, and I know you love me too," Selene pleaded desperately.

"You cheated on me! How dare you say you love me? Who'd you fuck now? Is he upstairs? Ask him to come down!"

Selene gasped in shock and tried to defend herself. "I said I didn't cheat on you! There's no one upstairs!"

"Hey, why are there so many people here? Are you all here to greet me?" A drunken, slurred voice suddenly sounded.

A young man stumbled down the stairs.

Chapter 2 Unexpected Marriage

The man looked tall and he had broad shoulders, which were currently slumped over. He reeked of alcohol and it was obvious to all that he was drunk.

His white shirt was crumpled, and several buttons were missing, exposing his nicely sculpted chest.

But what was most eye-catching about him was the bright lipstick mark on the man's chest.

Everyone's eyes darted between the man and Selene knowingly, as though they knew exactly what was going on.

The bright lipstick mark on Matteo's chest confirmed everything, didn't it?

Dante was surprised to see his brother, Matteo, coming down the stairs. Matteo never came back home last night, so how did he end up upstairs?

But it didn't matter. What mattered now was Matteo served as evidence that Selene was cheating on Dante.

Dante seized the opportunity to lash out at Selene. "How dare you cheat on me with my own brother? I can't believe you'd even hook up with a loser like him!"

When she heard Dante's accusation, Selene's eyes grew as wide as saucers. She wanted to defend herself, but before she could even open her mouth, Leo, her father, suddenly emerged from the crowd and slapped her across the face. "I didn't raise a shameless daughter like you? Apologize to Dante now!"

If it weren't for Dante, Leo's company would've gone bankrupt. Leo hoped that Selene could marry Dante as soon as possible so that he could milk their rich family some more.

But he didn't expect that his daughter would be stupid enough to cheat on Dante!

He had to mend things as soon as possible. He couldn't lose Dante's support.

Selene covered her swollen cheek and looked at her father in disbelief. She tried to defend herself again, "I swear I never cheated on Dante. He's the one who-"

"Shut up!" Leo interrupted her harshly. "Stop making excuses for yourself! Or you'll only bring shame to our family!"

Selene could hear rumors from guests. No one bothered to help her and none of them pitied her.

"What a slut!"

"I never knew that was what she was doing."

"She is poor and yet she tried to tie Dante down to her."

She could hear the gossips they said about her and she felt hurt by it.

Just then, Dante's father, Mr. Shedrach, strode over towards them.

Although he was old, his eyes were still sharp and bright. Dressed in a jet black custom suit, he was the epitome of a shrewd businessman.

His gaze swept across the crowd. "I'm sorry, I think I need to take care of some family affairs. That concludes today's party. Thank you all for coming."

After the crowd dispersed, Mr. Shedrach turned his head to look at the wretched Selene. With a long sigh, he asked seriously, "Selene, tell me what happened. What's going on between you and Matteo?"

Selene opened her mouth to defend herself. She wanted to say that there was nothing going on between them and that she didn't even see him when she rushed downstairs.

However, before she could say a word, somebody shoved her from behind. She stumbled forward and fell to the floor.

Selene turned her head and found that it was her own father who had pushed her.

Leo glared at Selene murderously. "You have humiliated our family. Get on your knees and apologize to Dante and Mr. Shedrach. Don't get up until they've forgiven you."

All the color drained from Selene's delicate face. She couldn't believe Leo was treating her so rudely. Choked with sobs, she cried sadly, "Dad, I'm innocent! Why don't you believe me?"

Leo ignored her pleas and turned to Mr. Shedrach with a flatteringly smile. "Mr. Shedrach, I am so sorry. I wasn't able to raise my daughter well enough. She made such a huge mistake and ruined your party. Please accept my apologies and spare our family."

"Are you saying your daughter did in fact try to seduce my eldest son? Does she even like Matteo?" Mr. Shedrach asked hesitantly. He had always thought that Selene was Dante's girlfriend, not Matteo's.

Mr. Shedrach glanced at Matteo, who was leaning against the wall quietly. His eyes were closed, as if this farce had nothing to do with him.

He was tired of the callous lifestyle his son was living, not once had Matteo acted like he was responsible like his younger brother Dante. He was a complete humiliation to the family and what better way to restrain him than to give him a wife. Besides, he needed to put an end to this farce today.

After mulling over it for a while, Mr. Shedrach made up his mind. He looked down at Selene, who was still on her knees, and said, "From this day on, you will be Matteo's wife. He needs someone to keep him in line."

Chapter 3 Matteo

Everyone in the room fell into bewildered silence when they heard Mr. Shedrach's decision.

Leo was the first one to come to his senses. He nodded enthusiastically and shook Mr. Shedrach's hand. "That's a great idea. Selene and Matteo are a perfect match!"

He had been so worried that if word got out about this affair, he would lose the support of the Shedrach family, which would end his company. Leo was relieved to find out that Mr. Shedrach was not angry with him and even arranged for his eldest son to marry Selene.

Selene's heart ached dully when her father agreed to this marriage without even asking for her opinion.

"Dad, why are you doing this to me?" She pleaded with her father, he was supposed to be her support, he was supposed to stand by her side but instead he believed what others had said about her.

"Don't you ever come back to my house, you are no longer a part of our family. You are hereby disowned today, if I see you anywhere near the house then you will hate what I will do to you." Leo warned and walked out of there without looking back or giving his daughter a final glance.

"No, I don't want to get married to him" Selene said and ran out of the house crying.

She rushed to Leo's car and begged him to take her back but he wouldn't listen to her.

"Dad please listen to me, I am innocent. I never cheated on him" she pleaded with her father to listen to her but he shook his head and drove out. The car disappeared from her sight in a flash.

The void Selene felt in her heart was bigger. She just watched her life take an upside turn, from being the most talked about woman for dating the son of the richest man in Athens, she had turned into a laughing stock in just one day.

Having nowhere to go, Selene stood in the bleak street for a long time. Gradually, she learned to accept the reality of the situation and went back to Mount Villa, where she met Mr. Shedrach and Matteo.

"Why are you doing this?" Matteo, who had been silent this whole time, finally questioned his father.

"I am sick and tired of having you walk into this house anytime you like. You always do whatever you want regardless of anything!" Mr. Shedrach yelled at Matteo.

"You can't do anything about it" Matteo challenged him.

"Oh yes I can. From now hence forth, you are married to this young lady over here." Mr. Shedrach said pointing at Selene.

"No, you cannot do this." Matteo reverted.

"I have done it and that is final. Just look at yourself. You drown in alcohol and women every day, you good-for-nothing son! The company I gave you is about to collapse. Both you and Dante are my flesh and blood, but you're nothing compared to him. The company he manages ranks second in our city. If you can't run your company, give it to Dante," Mr. Shedrach snapped impatiently.

Hearing this long speech, Matteo snorted and rolled his eyes mockingly. "Second best? What's so special about that?"

Mr. Shedrach flew into a rage. "It's better than your company, which is going bankrupt!"

Matteo didn't bother to argue with his father any further. He turned around and went upstairs without saying another word.

Mr. Shedrach's chest was heaving violently with anger. He looked at Selene and growled, "Your job now is to keep your husband in line. Don't let him go down this destructive path!"

Emily, Mr. Shedrach's wife, patted him on the back to calm him down. When she saw Selene standing frozen in place, she scolded her impatiently, "What are you still doing here? Go to your room with your husband."

Frightened by the fierceness in Emily's eyes, Selene hurriedly nodded and left.

She arrived at the door to Matteo's room and found that the door was unlocked. She knocked twice on the door cautiously.

Nobody answered.

After waiting for a while, Selene gently pushed the door open.

What she saw took her breath away.

Matteo was standing with his back to the door. He had taken off his crumpled shirt, revealing his lean upper body.

He was tall and perfectly proportioned. His broad shoulders and narrow waist formed a nice V-figure. His powerful muscles were well-defined, as though God himself had chiseled them to perfection. One couldn't help but be fascinated by his god-like features.

Selene was absolutely dumbfounded.

What shocked her more were the various scars on his body. Some were obviously old, while others still looked freshly scabbed over.

How could a rich boy with a carefree life have scars all over his body?
