Crystal had never and would never be eager to step into the four walls of the institution called school, not like she would be missed if she did not. To the eccentric students of Harmonia academy, she had always been a freak, loner, and an invisible entity. She wasn't always like this though, there was a time when she was outgoing and had friends but all that changed once she passed the late stage for showing an ability and she didn't show one.
All her so-called friends had quickly ditched her one by one once she became the new target of ridicule for everyone in the town. She was soon alone and was constantly isolated which eventually led to her withdrawn personality and it didn't help that she was an orphan with no clue of who her birth parents were.
She was abandoned at the doorstep of a welfare institution for kids who had either lost their parents from the war or was abandoned. She eventually became numb to their continuous taunts and jeers as she felt that even if she retorted it wouldn't change anything. She knew that today being her eighteenth birthday wouldn't change anything, it would just be a reminder that she was still an unknown
Walking into school with her head lowered and with the occasional jeers and shoves, crystal was unaffected and somewhat mechanical. Before she knew it she soon found herself in front of her locker that was covered with numerous foul words that are not supposed to be associated with a soon to be eighteen year old girl.
She only paused for a moment and briefly glanced at the graffiti that the students had used to "nicely" decorated her locker with before opening her locker. As usual, it was filled with worms which had tiffany's name, the wicked witch, written over it. Among all her haters, tiffany could be said to occupy the number one spot for which reasons are totally unclear to her,
She used a tissue that she always had in her bag to swipe away all the disgusting worms crawling on her books. She picked the books that were meant for the class she was having now which was one of her favorites, History and stuffed it into her bag.
On a normal day, history should be a boring subject to most people but not for crystal because this was one of the that could give her a clue on what she was. She had always held on to whatever clue she could find on her identity or her race and so far, she it had always ended in a hopeless chase but she was never one to give up.
She closed her locker before proceeding to the classroom that was meant for her. As history had its perks for her, it also had defects like the fact that it was a combined course, meaning that anyone could take it. Immediately she got to the class, the bell rung signaling the start of first period.
Stares and jeers followed her as she wobbled to her seat that was in the far corner at the back of the class. Before she got there she was stopped by Tyler, one of her bullies that was also a vampire and he was staring at her intensely.
Tyler stared at the school unknown as he was trying so hard not to jump her and that was not to hit her. A lot of thoughts were running through his mind now but the most prominent was that he wanted to figure out why she smelled especially delicious today.
Today he found crystal's blood to be especially alluring and fragrant today and that was weird for him because among all the vampires in his grade, he could proudly say that he had the most control. He knew that as he himself was attracted to her today, the other vampires that had lesser self-control than he did would soon be jumping her and that would lead to utter chaos. Even if crystal was an unknown, she was still a student her and the punishment for jumping a student were too severe to bear.
Even with all the emotional turmoil and self-control, he couldn't help but move closer to the girl to "take a small whiff" he told himself but as he got closer, he couldn't resist the temptation anymore.
The girl in question was looking back and forth confusedly as she felt that there was way more eyes on her today than usual. Usually they would just look, make a snide comment, and look away but today she felt that the gazes of the vampires were weird.
Concluding that it was just one of their ways to further make her feel like she was the odd one out, she turned her head forward to continue to her seat but had to stop abruptly. She was startled as Tyler Henkins was barely a hair's length from her.
He leaned towards her, with eyes sparkling strangely as if he was staring at a piece of meat and she couldn't help but shiver and lean back.
"W.... what do you want?" She stuttered.
She was not a fool as she knew what that glint and expression meant but she couldn't figure what she had done that he was looking at her like he wanted to take a big bite out of her.
He grabbed her waist and pulled her closer before he leaned towards her neck while she kept struggling futilely. She froze as she felt his hot breath on her neck, then his fangs emerged before he grazed her neck with it.
She could hear nothing but her own heartbeat beating frantically as she knew for sure that the class would be staring dumbfoundedly at her without making a move to help her out of this situation. She closed her eyes as she seemingly wanted to accept her fate but when she felt his fangs pressing on her neck, a sudden rush enveloped her.
She suddenly felt stronger than she had ever been and she suddenly opened her eyes which were now a bright and mesmerizing blend of blue and red. A red mist suddenly emanated from her body like a mist before it gathered around her and suddenly shoved
"What is going on here?" Mr. Tim the history teacher barked
Tyler till he flew and hit the wall.
Time seemed to pause as everyone opened their eyes in shock and looked between her and Tyler who was groaning on the floor.
A loud voice suddenly rung out "What is going on here?"
"What is going on here?" Mr. Tim the history teacher barked.
Nobody spoke as they were all frozen with a surprised expression on their faces, even the vampires that were previously very active had gone rigid in shock.
Mr. Tim felt a dangerous aura that reeked of bloodlust emanating from somewhere in the room. The aura was so strong that he himself couldn't help but be intimidated. It was quite unlike anything he had ever felt before. He quickly looked around the classroom trying to find where it was coming from only to be shocked by what he saw.
Meanwhile, the students in the room had snapped out of their shock once the felt an overbearing and suffocating feeling envelope them. Even the strongest among them couldn't help but tremble in fear as they all looked towards the source.
Tyler lost control and let his animalistic side take over him but before he could fully process anything, he found himself being flung backwards by a strong force. After that, everything went dark and when he came to, he was sitting on a pile of rubble that was once part of the wall behind him.
He blinked continuously as he tried to clear his head and shake off the pain he was feeling now. He then remembered that he had been 'talking' to that unknown girl before everything went dark. His head snapped up almost immediately as he looked towards the place he had been standing previously.
Crystal stood at the center of it all with a strong bloodlust emanating from her body but the weird thing was that she was totally still. It did not seem like she was still here as she stared off into space with her colorful eyes with no expression. One would have thought she was a statue if it wasn't for the occasional rise and fall of her chest. Apart from that, every other part of her was still and that included her eyes.
The eyes of everyone in the room was focused on her as they cowered in fear and expected her to kill someone but when Mr. Tim saw that she still wasn't moving, he cautiously approached her even though he was scared. Once he got to where she was, he called out her name continuously with the aim of bringing her back.
Meanwhile, in the head of crystal, she was currently walking aimlessly in a vast and barren land filled with nothing but darkness. Her eyes which had turned obsidian black was looking all around and her face donned a lost expression. About an hour ago, she had felt an inexplicable sense of crisis when Tyler had tried to bite her but she knew that she was no match for him so she wanted to accept her fate.
She then closed her eyes to await the impact but after a while she felt nothing but a gust of cold air on her body. She opened her eyes to assess her situation only to be shocked as she found her self in this dark and empty space.
She walked and walked for a while with hope of finding an exit but she was not able to find. When she gave up the search, she found a deep fog of despair envelope her as her emotions started seeping like liquid from her body. When she was almost fully one with the despair, she heard a soft and almost unnoticeable voice call out to her.
At first, she didn't have much of a reaction but when the voice came back stronger and much firmer than before, she finally snapped out of it. She looked around, trying to locate the soothing yet firm and somewhat familiar voice but she couldn't pinpoint the source.
Suddenly a bright light shone upon he from above and her train of thoughts were something between angel and dramatic. She didn't see any angel after the light dimmed but she had this comforting feeling envelope her as an invisible hand brushed against her face. She didn't know where it was coming from but instead of feeling panic, she felt comforted.
"My child, you are meant for great things so do not give in to despair because you will be the one to determine what you want your fate to bring" the voice said.
A gust of wind blew past crystal and in that time frame, the sprit whispered something that was almost incoherent to her and the color of her eyes finally returned to normal.
"Go my child, your destiny is awaiting" she said
Crystal felt a force pushing her in the direction of the door that she hadn't noticed had appeared earlier. She headed towards it and when she was almost through, she couldn't help but turn back to look at the direction of the voice again as she felt a strong sense of familiarity with that person.
"Go my child, I will always be watching over you" The voice sounded out once more, much softer than before.
Crystal turned towards the door and crossed the thresh hold, when she came to, she found herself lying on a soft bed. She was confused as she didn't know what happened and before she could ponder it even more the door opened and her history teacher stepped in.
Once Mr. Tim looked up and saw that she was awake, the slits of his eyes dilated and there was obvious fear on his face. He couldn't help but think back to what went down in the class previously and all the things that crystal said and how she looked while she said it.
An hour ago, Mr. Tim kept calling out to crystal to snap her out of her trance and she did snap out of it but just in a way that was unexpected. Her eyes that were a mixture of blue and red suddenly changed again to obsidian black as she starred muttering things that were incoherent at first but once it got clearer was shocking.
"He is coming, the Bringer of darkness is coming, the devourer of souls is coming, the destruction of the world is upon us, he will take the world by storm and bring it to its knees. No one will be spared; doom is upon us" was what she kept repeating with a twisted expression on her beautiful face.
After she said it five times, her eyes changed back to their original color and she slumped and fainted. She was then brought to the school clinic by Mr. Tim and some other brave students after which the school management and staff were informed of it.
He approached her cautiously and when he was before her, she looked up with a confused expression. It was only then that he heaved a sigh of relief before he proceeded to ask her.
"What you said about the bringer of darkness, is it true?"
"What you said about the bringer of darkness, is it true?" Mr. Tim asked
"What are you saying sir? What Bringer of darkness? And when did I ever say that?" She asked confusedly
"Don't you remember what happened?" Mr. Tim asked
He had suspected that this was the case when he saw the confused expression on her face the moment, he first entered but things could not be simply brushed off.
She had to remember as what she said, if true, could possibly bring about chaos if they were not prepared and they couldn't do so without getting the full picture.
"Sir I don't understand what you are talking about as I don't seem to remember what happened" she said.
Mr. Tim stared at her for a few more seconds trying to see if she was faking the amnesia but he didn't see any fluctuations on her face only that confused expression.
Even with th fact that she didn't remember what happened, this matter couldn't be swept u der the rug because what she said, if true, can mean the end of the human race.
He tried to explain what happened to her and all crystal was thinking at that moment was "what the hell?"
She tried to picture the scene a few hundred tes but she just couldn't process it. As she was thinking, something she had overlooked from hos explanation flashed in he mind.
"Sir are you meaning to tell me that I have unlocked my powers?" She asked.
"Yes but that's not the issue here, the issue is what you had said about the fate of the world" He replied, but at that moment all she heard was yes
She had finally unlocked her powers and that alone was enough to make her day. She felt that she would finally belong and have friends but Mr. Tim's next words shattered that dream.
"Your powers are not like any that has been seen before but we are still looking through th records to see if there's anything we missed" He said.
"Plus we still need you to come in for regular check ups so we can evaluate what you are and if we can't, we will have to send you to the state team for experimentation" He finished.
Crystal's face had already contorted as she felt that her life was meant to be a lonely one. She had been wishing all her life to get powers so she wouldn't be a freak anymore but who would have thought that getting it would make her more of a freak than she ever was.
She could already picture her life from now on, People fearing what she is and disassociating themselves from her even more, treating her like some science experiment, dangers from all sides, no friends, no family and utter loneliness forever.
She couldn't help but choke out a sob for the first time in her life. She had a strong heart but there are some things that could break even the strongest of hearts.
"So you mean to say that I will continue to live my live as a loner or even worse" She choked out.
Mr Tim felt sad for her but there was nothing he could do because it was all for a 'good cause' as the administrative head had put it. If they tried to hide it, it would be detrimental for them if the state team found out.
Essentially the state team was responsible for law and order, for experimenting on abnormalities and making sure any threat to the normal way of life is curbed or possibly eliminated.
This matter and everything she said was watched by not one or two students but th whole class. News about this would spread eventually as people feared the unknown especially if it seems to be stronger than you.
His silence was like a blow to crystal as she felt that this was very cruel to her. Imagine living in light since you were born the being forcibly plunged into darkness. After almost giving up, you are given light again then once you are already full of hope it is snatched away again.
She felt like the world was just against her as this on its own was really cruel. She hated the feeling of being helpless and not being able to control anything about her life.
She just lay down on the bed and refused to answer Mr Tim anymore as she she felt that if she did he may give her an even worse blow.
Mr Tim stopped talking as he felt that she needed some time to herself to accept her fate. He told her that he would be back before he turned and left.
A short while after, the door to the clinic opened and in strode a young man that carried a regal air to him. He was fair, tall, buff and really alluring. Looking at him, you could classify him as a siren but the problem was that he wasn't a siren at all.
He strode towards the girl that was sobbing on the bed and stared at her for a bit before he reached out to touch her shoulder and called out "Saviour"
Crystal heard the door close behind Mr Tim as he left before she gave in to her tears. Shortly after she heard the door open again and assumed it was either Mr Tim or the nurse so she didn't move but a deep and smooth voice rang out.
"Saviour"
She turned around to see who it was as she didn't recognize the voice but she was stunned by the beautiful young man before her.
"Who the hell are you?" She questioned as she had never seen this person in the school before.
He chuckled and it sounded like heaven bells were ringing.
"I am Aiden Ryder. Your personal keeper and guide at your moment of transition"
"Transition?? What are you talking about?"
He chuckled again.
"Oh what a naive one you are. You are in fact the the bringer of doom and he is you. I am just here to make sure you are strong enough to battle it out with him once he arrives because if you can't, he will take over your body and wreck havoc into this world"
