Chapter 1 Sold

At the Lord Seven-star Hotel...

Cindy Cheng was feeling inexplicably nervous and uneasy as she sat quietly in the wedding room.

She was going to get married with Horald Tao tonight, but her husband didn't show up yet.

They had been in love with each other for three years already. Horald Tao came from a financially stable family, even though they weren't exactly rich. He was diligent, hardworking and promising. Cindy Cheng was very satisfied with the man she dearly loved.

All she wanted was a peaceful and stable life with him.

Ding!

The door opened, but the lights suddenly went out.

The spacious suite had turned really dark. Its atmosphere suddenly felt so depressing.

"Horald, is that you?" Cindy Cheng called out. Her tensed breath almost got stuck in her throat.

No one responded to her, but the sound of the footsteps was approaching.

"Horald, can you turn on the light?" She was starting to get flustered. "Horald... Ah!"

A strange and barbaric force suddenly rushed over.

"You are not Horald! Who are you? Let go of me!" Cindy screamed form the top of her lungs as she tried to grab on anything around her. But her hands and feet felt too weak to move.

What happened to her?

"I'm your Brother Qin. Have you already forgotten about me? You fiance sold you to me as goods. Now, let me spend the wedding night with you," the man ordered.

'Brother Qin? Is he Claude Qin?' He was the son of the hospital president who had been desiring her.

Cindy Cheng's face became pale because of desperation. "Get out! Don't come near me!" she shouted.

"It took me a lot of time and effort just to get you. Tell me one good reason why I shouldn't touch you? Why don't you just give up? How about I let your fiance tell you the truth?"

Claude Qin suddenly pulled Cindy Cheng's hair. His face looked so ferocious as he started to lose his patience. Then, he dialed Horald Tao's number.

Cindy Cheng was feeling so humiliated.

The phone was quickly connected.

Before Cindy Cheng could shout at the phone for help, she was quickly shrouded with despair.

Horald spoke as gentle as usual,

"Mr. Qin, are you satisfied with my gift? Even though I will be married to Cindy, I have never done anything to her. Just keep your end of the bargain just like you promised, okay?"

"What did he promise you? Tell me!" Cindy demanded. She gritted her teeth and wailed in grief. The hatred present in her eyes was cold to the bones.

"Cindy..." Horald's voice suddenly froze.

Meanwhile, Cindy was trying so hard to control her emotions. Her heart felt too hurt to breathe. "Horald Tao, I'm your wife," she wailed.

"Yes, you are my wife. So you should help me. Mr. Qin said that President Qin would give me a house if I agreed to this. Not only that, but he'll also assign me as the director of the cardiosurgery department. Cindy, don't you know how much time and money I have spent on your brother? You owe me that much. If you screw this up for me, I'll cut off your brother's medical expenses!"

What Horald said stabbed into Cindy's heart like a sharp knife.

Despair overwhelmed her. She bitterly curled her lips and gritted her teeth. "Horald, you're not human! You're a sick man! If you dare touch my brother, I will definitely kill you!"

"Then don't let me down!" Horald then hung up the phone.

The phone's beep and the fire in Claude Qin's eyes cut off Cindy's hope completely.

"Fuck off! If you dare to touch me, I will kill myself," Cindy threatened. Absolutely hatred flashed in her eyes.

"Don't touch me!" Cindy screamed. "I already warned you! Get out of my way!"

Along with her pierced heart, she felt a hot current running through her body. She tried her best to control herself, but her breath was getting hotter and hotter.

The iron chain tied to her wrists collided with each other, badly mutilating her hands.

The pain was excruciating. Her vision started to get blurry.

At this moment, the suite's door was suddenly kicked open. The door banged loudly and shattered the glass near it.

"Let her go." The voice sounded cold and sharp.

Numerous well-trained men in black rushed in to rescue Cindy.

At the door, a tall man in a black windbreaker slowly walked in. He had a murderous look on his face. The light suddenly opened, and everything was bright. But the man's eyes still looked really dark.

"Who dares to spoil my fun?" Claude yelled angrily. But before he could see the person's face, he was quickly knocked over to the ground by the men in black.

"Do you know who I am?! I'm the eldest son of the Qin family! The Qin family," he shouted, trying to instill fear to the men in black.

"The eldest son of the Qin family?" The tall man bowed and squatted down. His voice sounded as cold as ice. "When did the Qin family dared to act wildly in my territory?"

The tall man was no other than Ethan Huo.

He was believed to be the legendary devil, who took the whole cruise ship industry under his control.

He was also the ruler of the Huo family, the most mysterious family in M Country. The cruise ship kingdom of the Huo family dominated three continents. They were a really rich family and no one dared to cross their paths.

Claude was scared to death as soon as recognized the man. He knelt down as his face turned pale. "Mr. Ethan, please forgive me. I really didn't know this is the Huo family's territory. If only I had known, I wouldn't have the courage to barge in here."

"Which hand did you touch her with?" Ethan Huo stood tall in front of Claude and stared him down as Claude begged him for mercy.

Claude suddenly seemed like a big coward. He was shaking his head. "No, I didn't touch her. I didn't touch her with either of my hands," he cried.

"Well then, I guess both your hands should be disabled," Ethan Huo said with an evil look on his face.

"Ah!"

Claude's wail rang out all throughout the room.

"Drag him out and call the Qin family to pick him up," Ethan ordered his men.

His dark eyes were too menacing to look at. A gust of cold wind blew past the thick curtain and swept the whole room.

The men in black dragged the disabled Claude out of the wedding room.

Everything seemed to be quiet at this moment.

Cindy tightly closed her eyes. Her forehead was wet with hot sweat. Her hands were still tied on the bedside. She felt as if she was pinned down by a heavy stone, having a hard time breathing.

"Hmm... Ahhh..."

It was so uncomfortable.

She heard the man's footsteps approaching her.

"Ethan..." Cindy sobbed. "Don't come near me," she said with a frail voice.

Chapter 2 I'm Married

Cindy warned Ethan with a hoarse voice.

They hadn't seen each other for quite a long time already.

Ethan, the eldest son of the Huo family, was a really powerful man and the one she once loved deeply.

But she wouldn't let him back in her life. She didn't want to be involved with him in any way.

She had paid too much, even at the cost of her family, when she was with him. They were simply not in the same world. No matter how much they loved each other, they wouldn't have a good ending to their lives. She didn't want to cross paths with him again. Cindy really just wanted to marry a good man and have a simply and good life.

Ethan's cold eyes swept over her weak body. His face looked really gloomy as he said, "Cindy, I'm back."

"Please go away. Please..." Cindy begged. As her body got wet all over, she clung to the bed sheet under her.

Ethan's handsome eyes were deep and looked very cold. He didn't listen to her pleads and took her to the bathroom.

"Ethan, put me down. No! No!" Cindy screamed. She tried to kick herself out of his grip.

However, he pressed her against the bathroom's marble wall and turned on the faucet.

Cold water poured down on her.

The water was so cold that it pierced right through her bones.

With an indifferent face, Ethan continued to refuse Cindy's plead to get free. He raised his hand and clasped her chin. "Tell me what are you afraid of? Are you afraid that I will eat you?"

Being forced to look at him, Cindy trembled and said, "Can you let me go? Please, just me go."

"Ungrateful woman! Is this how you treat your savior, the first man you loved?"

"Stop it, please. I beg you. I don't want to visit the past. Our relationship had ended over five years ago. We can't go back anymore. We have already broken up!"

"Broken up? Cindy, are you kidding me? You started all of this. Do you think you can come and go as you like?" Ethan exclaimed, looking at her straight in the eye. How he wished he could crush this ungrateful woman.

"Let bygones be bygones. What's the point of pestering me now? I told you I was with you only for the money. Why can't you understand that?" Cindy tried hard to calm herself down.

Even if it wasn't entirely his fault that her family had been destroyed, the Huo family played a great part to force the Cheng family into a dead end.

He didn't even care when she broke up with him. He simply disappeared for five years. But now that she finally had a stable life, he suddenly showed up.

Cindy didn't want to go back to the painful past.

Ethan pursed his lips. "Do you think I will believe such a ridiculous reason?" He laughed at her sarcastically.

Cindy was panicking. Her heart was beating fast and loud.

"Then what else do you want?" Ethan paused for a while.

"Marry me!" He leaned closer to her and pressed his lips against her ear.

"That's impossible. I'm married," Cindy retorted.

What she said obviously irritated Ethan. He glared at her with his cold eyes.

"Married?" Ethan sneered. "Don't belittle yourself too much, Cindy. You were sold by your husband on your wedding night. You want a marriage like that?"

He really wanted to shove that embarrassment to her face.

Cindy was feeling furious, but she had to make up her mind quickly. "It's none of your business. I would rather be like this than be with you again! Let go of me!"

Cindy thought that this man must be crazy. He hadn't seen her in over five years, and suddenly, he wanted to marry her.

She was so heartless back then. She couldn't understand why Ethan would want to marry her instead of hating her to death.

Cindy bit her lip as Ethan approached her again. She couldn't stand the hot current running inside her anymore.

She was afraid that she would lose control of herself in any minute.

"Don't you understand that I'm married, you bastard?!"

It was a long night...

Until...

Morning light came through the curtains, brightening the room.

Cindy woke up and found that she was the only one on the bed.

A sound of running water was coming from the bathroom. It was Ethan, taking a shower.

Cindy didn't want to stay there any longer. She was really afraid to face him again, so she quickly put on her clothes and left.

As fast as she could, she hailed a taxi and headed to the Garden of Fragrance. It was a middle-grade neighborhood that was near the hospital. Cindy and Horald bought a wedding house there a year ago. But even though they were the ones who bought the house, it was written in her mother-in-law's name. Cindy and Horald lived there together with her mother-in-law and sister-in-law, but she hadn't cared about these things.

What she only wanted Horald to offer was an explanation as to what happened last night.

However, as soon as she entered the house, she was slapped across the face and was driven out the house.

The person who slapped her, seemed want to beat her to death.

"Bitch, how dare you come back?!" Beatrix Wu shouted.

She was Cindy's mother-in-law.

Cindy's forehead hit the door. The pain she was feeling was so excruciating. Her face felt like it was being torn apart.

She was struggling to get up, still feeling dizzy with the hard slap. She took quick glance with all the strength she could muster and saw her mother-in-law's fierce face. Her sister-in-law was also there, standing in front of her. Despite being not married, she got pregnant already.

Cindy's eyes turned cold. "Mom, why did you hit me?"

"Don't call me Mom! You are not my daughter-in-law. You're a bitch! You made Horald suffer, don't you know that?! Our family's really unlucky to be associated with a jinx like you! Get out! Get out of this house!" Beatrix Wu shouted loudly at Cindy. She held her head high and threw out Cindy and Horald's wedding photo.

The frame shattered in front of her.

There were shards of glasses scattered all over.

Some of the glasses even pierced Cindy's legs.

Beatrix Wu was a rural woman with great strength. She could even throw Cindy around like a ragdoll.

Cindy's face darkened as she clenched her fists. "Where is Horald Tao?" she demanded.

Chapter 3 It's None Of My Business

"How dare you look for my brother? If only you had taken good care of Claude, my brother wouldn't have been fired. He is a promising cardiologist. And you ruined him!" Joyce Tao didn't feel ashamed that she was an unmarried mother. She even began to teach Cindy a lesson.

Cindy hadn't expected that even her sister-in-law knew that Horald sold her out.

"Did you take a part in that?" Cindy asked.

"Who on earth was the one ruining lives? How dare you stand in my house and blame me?! Get out of my way. This is my house!" Biting her lips, Cindy was trembling in anger.

"Why are you mad? Know your place! You don't deserve such a good man like my brother. Don't you know what kind of person you are? You're just an intern nurse who doesn't have an education from a poor family. You are even depending on my brother to take care of your sick brother." Her eyes were full of disdain. Joyce Tao looked at Cindy as if she was a beggar.

"Don't talk nonsense with her, Joyce. Drive that jinx out of this house! She's just annoying everyone here," Beatrix yelled, pointing at Cindy's nose.

"Get out of my house!" Joyce Tao quickly obliged and dragged Cindy out of the house.

"Let me go!" Cindy demanded. She gritted her teeth and held back her anger. After all, she didn't want to fight with a pregnant woman.

However, when Joyce Tao was trying to grab Cindy's hair, she was accidentally stumbled by the door frame.

Feeling that the grip on her loosen, Cindy turned around only to see her sister-in-law was about to fall down.

"Watch out!"

In just a blink of an eye, Joyce Tao fell heavily on the ground. She groaned in pain and blood started to ran down her thighs.

"Ah! It hurts, Mom. It hurts so much," she cried out.

Cindy rushed over to see what was going on with her.

"What's wrong with you? Don't scare me." Cindy held her breath as she checked her sister-in-law's physical conditions.

"Get away from her, you murderer! If anything happens to my daughter's baby, you'll definitely pay for it!" With anger in her eyes, Beatrix rushed to push Cindy away.

"Mom, I'm a nurse. Let me have a look at her," Cindy insisted.

"Don't touch her!"

At this moment, the elevator door opened.

Horald walked out. He seemed to have been drinking and was definitely in a bad mood. He was in a total mess and had grown a beard overnight.

Beatrix burst into tears when she saw her son. "Horald, come here. This woman killed your baby!"

Horald quickly strode towards Joyce Tao. "Joyce..." Horald called.

"Brother, my baby... Save our baby," Joyce Tao pleaded.

"Honey, don't be afraid. I won't let anything happen to you." Horald then looked at Cindy with disdain. "If anything happens to Joyce's child, I won't let you get out of it scott-free!"

He pursed his lips, picked Joyce up, and left.

Cindy watched them leave as she stood alone in this bloody scene.

All her limbs and bones seemed to be eroded by the coldness.

Even though Joyce was Horald's sister, she was an adopted child. They weren't related by blood at all.

Cindy didn't expect that the baby in Joyce's belly would be Horald's.

The man who she believed to be honest and loyal to her turned out to be having an affair with his own sister. Now they even had a child together, and she was the last one to know about it.

No wonder Beatrix didn't get angry that Joyce was impregnated before marriage.

Now, Cindy knew about everything.

In the No. 2 People's Hospital...

The lights in the emergency room were all on. Beatrix and Horald were both restless.

Cindy had never seen him so depressed.

The doctor walked into the emergency room while looking through his medical records.

"Who is the family of Joyce Tao?" the doctor announced.

"I, I am. How is my grandson?" Beatrix hurriedly walked towards the doctor.

The doctor didn't look up, while his voice sounded really sorry.

"The baby is gone. The patient had a hemorrhage. Her uterus must be removed. It will be very dangerous for her if her uterus weren't removed. I need you to sign the operation agreement," the doctor explained.

"What? That's impossible! I can't believe it. It's impossible for her to lose her uterus," Beatrix was going crazy. She was crying loudly and her eyes had turned so red.

Cindy stared blankly at the scene. Her heart felt like it was being pinned by a big stone.

She could see in Horald's eyes the stress and desperation. But she knew she couldn't say anything that would offer him comfort.

All of a sudden, her phone rang. Cindy tried to ignore it, but the person on the other end kept on calling.

She walked away from the emergency room and answered the call. "Hello?"

But no one answered.

Cindy was feeling a little impatient. Her heart stared racing because of rage. "Who are you?" There was still no answer. "Say something, or I'll hung up!"

"Why are you hiding from me?" the person on the other end of the phone said. The man's voice was cold, low, deep, and magnetic.

"Is this Ethan?"

"Cindy, who said that you could run away from me?" His voice was tense.

Cindy was annoyed and exhausted. "What do you want?" she irritatingly asked.

"Marry me. You owe me this. Cindy, you can't escape."

"Just stop please. We're not from the same world. I am just a common girl, someone who couldn't afford the intrigues of your rich and powerful world. I beg you to let me go. Don't bother me ever again!"

Everything about last night felt like a crazy mistake for Cindy.

She didn't want to be associated with Ethan anymore.

She made that promise five years ago.

Meanwhile, Ethan's car was already parked outside the hospital.

Sitting upright in the back seat of his car, Ethan listened to the cold and mechanical sound of the phone being hung up. The cold look on his face was frightening.

It was no way for him not to notice the bitterness and hatred in her tone.

The light outside his car wasn't enough to light up his cold and dark eyes.

"Mr. Ethan, I don't think Ms. Cindy is the type of woman who will betray you because of money. She must be facing her own difficulties," Leon, his assistant, turned around and respectfully said.

He had witnessed how Ethan had survived the past five years.

Of course he knew what Cindy meant to him.

A sinister spark burst out from Ethan's dark and sharp eyes. "Check out what happened to her five years ago."

Outside the emergency room of the hospital...

Cindy received a storm of curses as soon as she hung up the phone.

"Cindy, you murderous bitch! How can you repair the damages you have done to my grandson and my daughter?! I want you to pay with your life!" Beatrix was out of control, pouncing at Cindy.

With anger, she slapped Cindy across her face hard, which was followed by a series of punches and kicks.

Cindy was thrown to the wall, feeling an immense amount of pain. Dizzy and bloody, her vision had started to be blurry.

She gritted her teeth and stood up. Cold sweat was dripping down from her. "This has nothing to do with me. The baby's death wasn't my fault," she tried to explain.

Horald was irritated by what Cindy had just said. He pushed her against the wall and held her chin up.

"Cindy, Joyce is going to die because of you. How dare you claim it has nothing to do with you! I'm so stupid to marry such a cruel woman like you!" His voice shook in anger.

Cindy tried to struggle out of his grip, but she couldn't. She look at his angry face and refused to admit that it was her fault.

"Really? Well, I'm also stupid for marrying a man like you! Get your dirty hands off me. Don't touch me, you disgusting bastard!" she retorted.

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath as she tried to control her emotions. But the pain she was feeling all over her body was too much to bear.

Horald was so angry at Cindy that he wanted to kill her with his cold stare.

"How dare you think I'm disgusting?! Do you know that I was fired because of you? That I lost my position in the medical circle? You've ruined me! You've ruined everything that I have worked hard for!" Horald shouted in frustration. He was a well-established man, but he lost everything in just one night. And it was all because of Cindy.

Cindy flashed a sinister smile, raised her eyebrows, looked straight into his eyes, and said, "So you married me just to use me, didn't you? Without me, you wouldn't even be Professor Wang's disciple. You wouldn't have even graduated with high credits, right? You are messing around with your sister and selling your wife to another man. Horald, I was so blinded by your fake loyalty and honesty. You're the one who ruined me. You cost me years of my life!"
