Chapter 1 Her Boyfriend Was Engaged With Someone Else

Sheila Jones' boyfriend was engaged, yet she was not the woman he was set to marry.

Six months ago, Niko Evans, Sheila's boyfriend, experienced a car accident, resulting in amnesia.

Even though he remembered everything else, his girlfriend was like a blank page in his mind.

Seeing their chance, Sheila's half-sister, Rita Jones, and her stepmother, Paula Jones, tricked Niko into thinking Rita was his girlfriend.

Today was the day Rita and Niko were to celebrate their engagement.

Worried that Sheila might cause trouble, Rita arranged for someone to stop her from showing up.

When Sheila unexpectedly showed up at the engagement party, Rita and Niko exchanged rings with the emcee's help.

As the emcee talked about everlasting love, Sheila, seeing the pair, felt a stab of sadness. With teary eyes, she wanted to step in but was quickly held back by her stepmother.

"Sheila?" Paula approached, flanked by security guards. "Why are you here? Niko doesn't remember you. You can't ruin my daughter's engagement party."

Sheila, however, was determined to stop the ceremony. "This engagement is based on lies. I am the one Niko loves. Please, let me in!"

Paula, worried that Sheila might spoil the event, scolded the guards, "What are you doing? Can't you see this woman making a scene? Take her away now!"

The guards, not wanting to lose their positions, grabbed Sheila and began to drag her away.

"Niko! You shouldn't be marrying Rita! Let me in..." Sheila's cries were desperate, but Paula quickly stifled her voice with a handkerchief.

Meanwhile, on stage, Niko appeared to have a telepathic connection with Sheila as he cast a glance towards the audience. Before he could fully grasp the disturbance at the entrance, Rita smiled and looped her arm through his, whispering, "Niko, I look forward to spending the rest of my days with you."

Niko, caught in the moment, looked at Rita with affection.

Feeling powerless, Sheila could only watch as the sweetness unfolded between the two on stage.

"Sheila, look how well Niko and my daughter complement each other. But don't worry, I've found someone suitable for you," Paula said coldly, her tone sharp as she leaned in to whisper in Sheila's ear, her gaze as piercing as a serpent's.

Sheila felt a wave of dread.

Paula, who had destroyed her mother's marriage and claimed her father, likely harbored sinister motives under the guise of seeking a suitable partner for her.

Sheila didn't want to play along with Paula's plans. So, she discreetly stepped on the bodyguard's foot, giving her the chance to escape and quickly dart away.

"Get her! Don't let her get away..." Surprised by Sheila's sudden escape, Paula ordered the guards to chase her.

Sheila was dead set on foiling Paula's plan, with the same thought racing through her mind. She couldn't let Paula get away with her schemes.

Sheila dashed to the elevator, urgently pressing the open button.

Frustratingly, the elevator was too slow, so she headed for the stairs instead.

"Halt! Stop right there!" Sheila was chased by bodyguards as she went down the stairs, forcing her to switch directions and run upstairs.

But as she hurried, an unexpected wave of heat washed over her, sapping her strength and leaving her unable to keep going.

Sheila realized with horror. Was Paula's handkerchief laced with an aphrodisiac?

Panic set in as Sheila felt her chasers nearing.

The possibility of escape dwindled by the second.

Seeing a door slightly open at the end of the corridor, Sheila raced toward it with determination.

With the heat building inside her, Sheila's vision blurred, making her lose her balance.

When she was nearly about to fall into the room, she bumped into a firm and sturdy chest.

"I'm so sorry. I didn't..." Sheila managed to utter before, overwhelmed by the heat, she involuntarily leaned into the man's embrace, unable to complete her apology.

The man wrapped his arms around her waist and pushed her against the wall, his deep red eyes showing a hint of intensity. "Are you connected to that woman?"

Sheila, still dazed, found it hard to make sense of his question.

Through her haze, she saw a well-dressed fat lady adorned in gold jewelry, approaching, calling out soothingly, "Darling, don't be scared. I mean no harm."

Observing the woman draw near, the man internally swore, pulling Sheila closer and quickly securing the door.

They both stood there, catching their breath against the door.

With her balance off, Sheila grabbed onto the man's collar, her eyes drawn to his attractive Adam's apple, a detail that always intrigued her. Then, she lifted her head, went up on tiptoe, and tried to kiss him forcefully. "I'm feeling so uncomfortable. Please, help me..."

Feeling the softness on his lips, the man momentarily froze, his rationality slipping away instantly.

"You brought this on yourself," he murmured, lifting her and laying her on the bed. He pressed his sturdy chest against hers and indulged in a passionate kiss.

Sheila responded instinctively, her body arching towards him as she murmured for assistance, "Help me... Niko..."

At the mention of "Niko", a flicker of something crossed the man's face, and his intense embrace deepened.

Their mutual desire filled the room, their sounds mingling in a symphony of passion.

Chapter 2 Marrying Her To A Quirky Old Man

As the first rays of the morning sun peeked through the window, they bathed the hotel room in a soft light.

When Sheila rolled over, her hand unexpectedly met warm skin. Surprised, she opened her eyes to see a strikingly handsome face staring back at her. Marks from their night together were evident on her skin.

"Ah!"

Sheila let out a scream, realizing it wasn't just a dream.

The memories from the night before came rushing back, hitting her with the shock of an unexpected fling with a stranger.

She had a one-night stand on the day of Niko and Rita's engagement? The realization pushed Sheila to the brink.

She thought about crying but stopped herself when the man began to speak, saying, "An ugly woman drugged me last night, and then there was you. What's your connection to her? And how much are you asking for?"

Sheila felt insulted by the implication that she was selling herself.

She tried to slap him, but in doing so, she accidentally exposed herself.

She quickly hid under the covers, her face turning red, and said, "I have no idea who that woman is, and I just want what happened last night to stay between us. If you ever mention it, you'll have to deal with me!"

With her boyfriend now engaged to Rita and her loss of virginity, Sheila was left to contemplate her uncertain future.

Angered, she tried to collect her clothes, but her legs shook, nearly causing her to fall. Just then, a firm hand caught her wrist, preventing her fall.

She ended up back on the bed, unexpectedly close to the man. They locked eyes in an unusual connection.

She realized her hand was inadvertently resting on the man's chest, feeling the solid muscles beneath.

Flushed with embarrassment, she desperately wished for an escape.

Shane White teased her with a smirk and said, "Enjoying the view, are you?"

Sheila quickly pulled her hand back, mortified, and said, "I'm sorry. And thank you! I want to make it clear. I'm not what you think. Last night was an accident, and I didn't know about the drugs. Please don't misunderstand me."

With her dignity in pieces, Sheila grabbed her clothes and made for the bathroom, sneaking in a moment to dry her tears, not wanting to show any weakness to a stranger.

Shane watched her leave, a look of suspicion in his eyes. He wondered if the previous night was just an accident, as she had said it.

Noticing a bloodstain on the sheets halted his thoughts.

Was this her first experience?

"Wait!" Shane pondered aloud, pausing her with a soft voice, and said, "If what happened last night was indeed a mistake on my part and caused you distress, I'm ready to take responsibility."

"Responsibility?" Sheila stopped, turning sharply, and said, "And what exactly does that mean?"

"I could marry you," Shane said, partly motivated by his father's nagging about settling down.

Sheila's head spun with disbelief, suspecting she was being ridiculed. Annoyed, she shot back, saying, "So, you think after one night together, we should do it time and again as a married couple? Are you kidding me?"

Shane was stunned by her reaction.

Despite the attention from many women over the years, he rarely felt the need to commit. Yet, here he was, proposing a sense of duty, only to be met with reluctance.

Without insisting further, Shane put on his suit, laid a business card with his contact on the nightstand, and said, "This is my number. Reach out if you reconsider."

After he departed, Sheila attempted to wash away the night's memories in the bathtub, feeling the weight of a cold and harsh reality.

Since Niko lost his memories, Sheila had fought to rekindle their bond, only to face rejection.

He had chosen her sister Rita, who had always been against her. Niko's words to her were harsh. "Sheila Jones, stop these harmful schemes to ruin my relationship with Rita. My feelings for you are non-existent. The more you try, the more it pushes me away!"

Now that her innocence taken on the day of Niko's engagement, she felt she had no right to love him.

Soaked and numb, Sheila eventually left the bath and took a taxi back home.

Her home was unusually silent that morning.

Approaching, Sheila accidentally overheard Paula and Rita's discussion.

"Mom, it's such a disappointment! I arranged for Sheila to be drugged and sent a gigolo to rape her. But he told me this morning that, though they were together last night, he failed to record any of it. Had we had a video, it would've made Niko despise her even more," Rita said.

With a hint of malice, Paula said, "Even without any video, Sheila won't stand in the way of your and Niko's future."

Confused, Rita asked, "How so?"

Paula revealed with a sneer, saying, "Timothy Green has taken a liking to her and is prepared to offer a hefty sum to marry her."

"Timothy Green? The quirky old man in his fifties? I've heard he's lost six wives and is now looking for a seventh!" Rita said, astounded.

Chapter 3 Posting A Marriage Ad

"Yes, you're right. Sheila's future looks grim after her marriage to Timothy. Do you think she can still compete with you for Niko's affection?" Paula asked with a sly smile on her well-kept face.

"Oh my goodness! That's amazing!" Rita burst out excitedly, but her excitement quickly faded. "But would Dad really agree to marry Sheila to Timothy?"

Paula snorted with disdain and said confidently, "Your dad's company has a problem. Timothy has agreed to invest, so your dad had to agree to the marriage for the company's sake."

Overhearing this conversation, Sheila felt unsteady and nearly fell. The man she had been close with the previous night was a gigolo hired by Rita? And their encounter was just a part of their scheme? And was her father really ready to marry her to some quirky man just for money?

Even when Lothian Group was successful, Sheila didn't feel her father's love. Now, with the company in trouble, she was expected to give up her own happiness?

She felt deeply wronged.

Sheila, slipping away without a sound, resolved to save herself from this dire situation.

But even with her resolve to leave, she couldn't let go of her feelings for Niko.

Seeking Niko one last time, she hoped to ask for his help. But before she could speak, Niko cut her off. "Haven't I made it clear I'm interested in Rita alone? It's better if you don't approach me anymore."

He stared at her with a disdainful intensity.

Despite the painful rebuff, Sheila maintained a soft tone and pleaded. "My father and stepmother are pressuring me into marrying an older man. I have no other recourse but to seek your help..."

"Is that my problem?" Niko asked coldly.

Sheila felt a deep sting, realizing her request was pointless.

She knew Niko had forgotten her, yet she still tried to get his help.

"Your sister and I are getting married. I'll be your brother-in-law soon! Sheila, you need to understand our positions. Stop bothering me; it only makes me respect you less," he said firmly.

"Rita is kind and forgiving. She hasn't blamed you despite your efforts to reach out to me. But as her fiancé, I won't let anyone hurt her again. If your father is forcing you into a marriage with an older man, perhaps it's time for some introspection. Don't you know why your family wants to push you away?"

Every word uttered by Niko pierced Sheila's heart like a dagger.

A year ago, they were dreaming of a future together.

But now, Niko saw her as a stalker, accusing her of trying to steal her sister's fiancé. He only wished she would vanish from his life.

Sheila's heart ached with deep wounds.

She knew asking for his help meant sacrificing her dignity to be trampled upon.

Yet, why did she persist in this hopeless pursuit?

"If... I mean, if one day your memory comes back and you remember our past..." Sheila trailed off, her voice uncertain.

"Stop lying! I've never lost my memory! I don't remember anything about you. I'm tired of hearing this!" Niko cut off Sheila's words, repeating a thought he had gone over many times in his own mind.

Tears streamed down Sheila's face.

"I'm sorry. I've tried my best, but you still don't remember me. Niko, I truly wish you happiness. From this day, I won't bother you anymore."

Sheila bowed deeply to Niko and fled, tears flowing through her face - a sorrowful goodbye to a love now mourned as dead.

Niko watched her leave, brow furrowed, sensing something slipping away. But his mood shifted as he got a call from Rita.

Afterward, Sheila turned to the internet, posting a marriage ad.

She felt compelled to marry quickly, seeking refuge from her toxic family.
