Chapter 1 Seeking Redemption

Slowly opening my eyes, everything seems like a dream. I was in a disclosed room and as I tried getting up, I felt severe pain in my back, suddenly I remembered being shot.

I fainted back into the bed, breathing heavily, and coming back to reality, I realized the door creaking open. Unaware of where I was, or who was coming in, my heart raced with anticipation.

"Jason! You are awake!" The voice exclaimed as she walked in. "Louis?" I called out faintly, trying to get up. "No, no..relax Jason. Your stitches are still fresh," she said, slowly holding me down.

I took a deep breath, trying to recall everything that happened and slowly the flashes were clear in my head. "Does anyone else know that you saved me?" I asked Louis firmly, gazing at her as she sat beside me.

"No, only I and Mason are aware of your whereabouts," Louis answered vividly. I nodded, feeling relieved. "Water, I need a glass of water," I requested.

"I will be right back, stay still," she said, swiftly walking out of the room. Immediately I got up from the bed and grabbed my shirt and a Jacket which were hung on the chair. I knew that there were people who wanted me dead and I couldn't risk putting Louis in danger, so I had to disappear. "I'm sorry Louis," I muttered as I forced my way out through the window.

When Louis returned to the room, her eyes were wide in shock as she couldn't find me in the room. The glass of water slipped from her hand as she called out, "Jason! Jason!"

I could hear her voice but I didn't look back, I left without a second thought. Joey searched for me everywhere but couldn't find me, she never gave up and kept on looking for me.

Here I am, after three years of hiding, determined to find out the people behind my hunt down and my sister's death. "I must find the truth and clear my name," I usually say to myself.

Lost in my thoughts in the elevator, I didn't realize I had reached my flat. "Hello, are you alright?" A voice whispered in front of me. Startled, I apologized, "I'm sorry," and came out of the elevator.

Staring at the pretty, cute lady with her kids who were twins, as they hurried into the elevator. She smiled at me and her kids stared at me, and I couldn't help but smile back at them as the elevator closed.

I retreated into my flat quietly, hiding my true identity from everyone who lived in the estate. I hurried to my computer, where I had been trying to track down those behind my misery. Their faces haven't been revealed yet, so I tried to get some evidence that could expose them.

I paused for a minute, inhaling deeply, I relaxed on the chair, trying to recall the event of three years ago. I tried to recall who took the evidence from the mission from my suit after I was shot. It was tiring and frustrating to always think about it because my eyes were blurry and I couldn't see the face.

For a few hours, I remained in my room, until I heard a knock at the door. "Oh, I ordered pizza," I whispered to myself as I stood up, and walked to the door.

"Here's your pizza," the delivery man said, handing it over to me as I paid him. As I wanted to head back in, the elevator chimed open. It was Joey returning from work, her eyes meeting with mine as she pressed the passcode to her door.

I gently walked back in. She has been my next-door neighbor for three years but we never spoke to each other. I was fine with it because I never wanted anyone to discover my true identity.

"Hi honey, you're home!" Joey's husband, George exclaimed upon her entrance, his eyes fixed on the screen. Joey nodded, "Yeah," she replied faintly, dropping her handbag on the couch.

"Where is Mia and Liam?" Joey asked, striding towards the refrigerator to get a bottle of water. "They are asleep, it hasn't been long since they got back from school," George replied, his eyes still fixed on the screen.

After grabbing a bottle of water, Joey sat on the couch, sipping the water. She then exhaled, "Darling, I think you need to find another job, it's becoming too much on me to try to take care of all the bills," Joey lamented, gazing at George.

George facing Joey, replied, "Do you think I'm happy staying this way? I was sacked without a tangible reason, and right now, I don't know what to do anymore." His voice tense.

Joey was a little upset about her husband's response and said, "I don't get you, even if you were sacked, you should at least look for another job!" She exclaimed, standing up.

"Where? How? I have worked at that company for almost eight years and instead of getting a promotion, I got a sack letter!" George replied, his voice tight.

Joey shook her head in disbelief, "So what are you going to do now? Fight them?" She asked, her tone serious. George paced back and forth, feeling frustrated. "You know what? I can talk about this right now," he responded as he went into the room, slamming the door behind him.

Joey let out a deep sigh, sinking into the couch, with tears welled in her eyes. Laying on the couch in my flat, I could hear their voices. I couldn't imagine what stress Joey had to go through to fend for her family since her husband was jobless in the meantime.

I slowly closed my eyes, contemplating my next move.

IN THE PARKING LOT

George drove into the estate parking lot, after getting a gift for his wife Joey to apologize for the fight they had yesterday. As he stepped out of his car, he saw a man being strangled in his car. He was shocked, trembling in fear as he watched the scene.

Chapter 2 The Intruder

Quickly, he turned away, pretending he never saw anything, George was so scared that his body nearly jumped out of his skin.

After the assassin completed his mission, he trailed behind George. George noticed he had been followed and walked faster, trying to get away from him.

George swiftly got into the elevator, but the assassin caught up with him. He pressed his mouth tightly, closing his nose until George suffocated. The assassin quickly escaped without a trace, covering his tracks.

Joey, unaware of what was going on, was in the kitchen when the glass plate she held in her hand fell. Her heart began to race, she felt as if something bad had happened. Immediately, she received a phone call, "Hello, Mrs. Joey! Hurry! Your husband was found in the elevator unconscious!" The security man exclaimed as George was been rushed to the hospital.

"What?" She exclaimed, storming out of the house. Joey raced with her car to the hospital, her heart pounding like a beating drum. Meanwhile, George was rushed into the emergency room where the doctor and nurses tried their best to save his life.

Joey stood outside the door to the emergency room watching her husband struggling to survive, but painfully the doctor stopped and took off his glove as he walked out of the emergency room.

Joey's eyes widened in shock, her breath heavy as the doctor walked out, "Doctor, what is happening? Is he alright?" She questioned, her voice trembling with tears rolling down her cheeks.

"I'm sorry, we lost him," the doctor reported, his tone sad. "What? That's not true. Look doctor, he and I argued yesterday and he was so strong and healthy that he yelled at me!" She exclaimed, with a hint of frustration and confusion.

The doctor felt bad for her and couldn't say a word. He patted her shoulder and walked away, and just then, Joey came to the reality that her husband was confirmed dead.

Joey couldn't believe that the husband she loved was lying lifeless. She slowly strolled, her body shaking, looking like someone who was lost as tears uncontrollably rolled down her cheeks. I can't imagine the pain she was feeling at that moment.

"George! Wake up! You can't die!" She shouted hitting his chest hard but George didn't lift a finger. Joey sobbed bitterly, her eyes red from crying; she felt so alone.

After her husband was put in the morgue, she helplessly went home, "Joey! What happened, we heard what happened to your husband, is he alright?" Her neighbors in the estate questioned as they rushed to her.

With all the questions they threw at her, she couldn't say a word but instead, she wept bitterly. They all comforted her and led her into her flat. "Where are Mia and Liam?" Joey asked in a faint voice, turning to their community leader Nora.

"They are still at my place," Nora replied. Joey nodded, "Alright, please, bring them in later not now," Joey pleaded.

I was on my way out and overheard the conversation in Joey's flat, "George is dead? What could have happened?" I thought, listening carefully to their conversation behind the closed door.

After a while, Joey was a bit calm and her friends began to ask her questions regarding her husband's sudden death. "They said George had a cardiac arrest," Nora said, her face sad. Chen shook his head in disagreement, "So we heard, but I'm not sure it's true," Chen sharply replied.

Joey, exhausted from crying, slowly shook her head, with a hint of disbelief. "Nothing was wrong with my husband, he was fine when he left the house." She responded with a faint voice.

"I think we should check the CCTV footage to know what happened," Chen suggested, his eyes wide open. Immediately, Joey wiped her tears and boldly said, "That's true, I need to know what happened to my husband."

As I overheard that, realizing that they were about to come out, I swiftly went back into my room. Joey and her friends were about to get into the elevator and I purposely opened my door, meeting them in the hallway.

For the first time, I called out to her, "Joey!" Walking towards her. "I heard what happened, accept my condolence," I expressed, gazing at her. Joey nodded, "Thank you," she replied.

Her friends were surprised to see me talking to her because I never talked or had conversations with anyone. But despite all that, I was admired by everyone in the estate. Jay, as they usually refer to me, was their role model and won people's hearts only with my looks; but still, I lived quietly and stayed in my lane.

Nora and Chen were surprised and Nora also used that opportunity to talk to him. "Jason, we want to go check out the CCTV footage in the security control room, would you like to come with us?" She asked, her voice firm.

"Sure, let's go," I replied as we all entered the elevator. I was curious to know how Joey's husband suddenly died, so I decided to accompany them.

We approached the head of security at the estate and Nora spoke with him. "Hi Mike, please can you show us the CCTV footage of today, we want to check something," Nora explained.

Without hesitation, Mike agreed and took them to the security room. Mike checked the footage from that day as we all stood, our focus solely on the screen. "There! There! Chen exclaimed, pointing at the screen.

I'm the footage, we could see George exiting the parking lot in a hurry, "Why was George in such a hurry?" Nora piqued. "Let's watch and see," Chen quickly replied, his eyes widening.

I didn't say a word, my whole focus was on the screen. To everyone's surprise, a man dressed in black trailed behind George, and we all wondered who he was. We kept watching, only to see George navigating to a corner where there were no CCTV cameras.

Chapter 3 Vanishing Evidence

Our eyes widened in shock, leaving everyone speechless until Nora said, "Does this mean that George was killed?"

She hinted, her mouth agape.

Joey couldn't bear the shock of knowing that her husband was killed, her heart began to pound, breathing heavily. "That man looks familiar," I thought, trying to get a clear view of his face as I told Mike to rewind the footage.

I took a closer look and I still clearly did not see his face. Suddenly, the electricity went down and we were in total darkness. Everyone wondered what was happening, "What's going on?" Chen questioned, curious.

I was vigilant, knowing that someone purposely turned off the power supply. "Let me go check what's going on!" Mike exclaimed, asking us to exit the security control room.

We swiftly trailed behind him, and after the power was turned on, we returned to the security room to finish the footage. We started all over again but weren't able to find out what happened to George.

"The video is been wiped out!" Mike exclaimed, his eyes wide in disbelief. We all exclaimed, "What!" Joey shook her head in disagreement, "How is that possible?" She inquired with a hint of frustration and confusion.

I immediately excused myself as they kept arguing about how the footage disappeared. I swiftly looked around the building, every corner, including the parking lot.

I saw a stranger, also dressed in black hurriedly leaving the building. "Hey! Who are you? Stop right there!" I exclaimed, striding towards him. But instead, he ran off without looking back, and before I could get closer, I couldn't find him anywhere.

I quietly retreated to the security room and they all turned to look at me upon my entrance, "Jason, where have you been?" Nora questioned. "I had to use the bathroom," I quickly replied. "Did you guys find the footage?" I inquired, lightly pressing my lips.

"We didn't, someone must have deleted it when we left," Chen replied, his voice tense. Joey began to sob softly, her face buried on the desk. I felt her pain, the pain of losing someone you so much love, is frustrating and heartbreaking.

Nora began to rub Joey's back, urging her to get up. "Come on Joey, that's enough, you need to get some sleep," Nora said, lifting her with the help of Chen.

They gently took Joey into her into her apartment as I trailed behind them. I wasn't the type that talked much, I was more of an observer and also very calculative.

On getting to Joey's door, I bid them 'Good night' and retreated into my apartment. They took Joey inside, making sure she slept before they left her.

Meanwhile, I was in my room, my eyes on my screen, trying to figure out who the intruder was. And after so much research, I found out that it was the same assassin from three years ago. "Why did he kill Joey's husband?" I thought, my eyes fixed on the assassin's photo.

"What could be the reason?" I pondered, tapping my fingers. My sole aim was to catch the assassin and use him to find the people I had been searching for, for three years.

7:00 AM

I woke up from the couch, more determined than ever, and I turned on the TV only to see a headline, "The manager of Phantom Tech Miller Donald found dead in his car last night."

I briefly listened to the news, grabbed the man's name, and began some research. However, Joey had already woken up. It was like a dream to her, losing her husband at such a young age, left alone to take care of Mia and Liam. "Honey, why? Why did you have to leave me and our kids?" She murmured, sobbing bitterly.

After a while, she wiped her tears and decided to go pick up her kids from Nora's apartment. On getting there, she gently knocked on the door, "Hey, Joey, come in." Nora greeted as she opened the door.

"Mummy!!" Mia and Liam exclaimed, running to their mom. Joey forced a smile, "How are you guys doing? Hope you had a good night's rest," she inquired hugging them tightly.

"Yes Mom!!" They both exclaimed smiling. Joey nodded, staring at the both of them, "Mom, have you been crying? Your eyes are red," Liam questioned.

"Me? Cry? Of course not! You know Mummy never cries," Joey replied, concealing her emotions. Mia and Liam smiled and held her tightly and she thanked Nora for being so helpful as she took the kids back to her flat.

Joey kept thinking day and night wondering how to get a better job to take care of herself and the kids, but she had to wait until her husband was buried.

On the day of the burial, I decided to go to the funeral home undetected. Joey's husband, George was been buried the same day with Miller Donald, the manager of Phantom Tech in the same venue.

When I entered the funeral home, dressed in a black suit with a sunglasses, I spotted Miller's burial photo, "Isn't this the manager of Phantom Tech?" I thought, slowly walking past it.

Walking a bit forward, I spotted Geoge's photo and Joey in front of it sobbing with her Mom beside her. I stood still, watching her in pain, wishing that she never had to go through all that.

Unknown to me that the NIS was at the funeral home too. They were investigating the case of Miller Donald and also came to the funeral home. Evelyn Shaw spotted me and muttered, "Jason Frost?" Her eyes widened. "Go after him!" She commanded her team.

When I saw them from afar, taken aback, I swiftly walked away, but they began to chase me and I began to run, my legs thudding heavily on the floor. "Don't let him get away!" Evelyn Shaw shouted as the team kept on chasing me.

Arriving in the hallway, they intercepted me, I clenched my fist, ready to fight. "Jason Frost, after all these years you decided to surface," Evelyn Shaw addressed, elongating the vowels. I didn't say a word to her and kept mute, focused on how to escape from them.
