A boy and girl were standing in front of the wishing fountain in Roma Square. The girl's thick, wavy hair was luscious and her eyes were like two big grapes. Her long eyelashes fluttered like butterflies above her eyes. She looked like an angel that fell into the mortal world with her pearl white skin and white lace dress.
The boy's flaxen hair shone in the sun, and his skin was as delicate as porcelain while his eyes sparkled like sapphires. His thin lips were like roses, noble and elegant. The beautiful twosome attracted the attention of all the tourists around them.
"Susan, what's your wish?" The boy held the girl's hand and caressed her cheek softly.
"I wish to be Kirk's beautiful bride when I grow up." Kirk Criss held Susan Leng in his arms and she raised her head, awaiting his reply.
"Okay, Susan. Promise me that we will never leave each other," said Kirk Criss, hugging the little girl tightly. He lowered his head and gave her a feathery-soft kiss.
"The deal has been sealed. Kirk can only be Susan's. Ha-ha!" Susan Leng stood on her tiptoes and kissed him on his lips. Kirk Criss held the little girl more tightly, fearing that she would fall down.
This endearing scene made the tourists around them stop and watch. "These two children are amazing." "They are so beautiful." "Their love is so pure." "They have touched my soul."
Susan Leng was seven years old that year and Kirk Criss was twelve.
In a traditional house, an eight-year-old girl watched in horror as a man in black pointed a gun at her mother. She didn't know what they were talking about.
Suddenly, her mother fell to the ground motionlessly. The man in black turned around and left. The girl did not see his face. She did not know who the man was and why he shot her mother.
She threw herself on the corpse and wailed, "Mommy, don't sleep! Open your eyes and look at Susan. I will be very obedient and won't make you angry again. Mommy, you said you would buy me a doll.
How can you forget? Wake up!"
Seeing that her mother didn't move and her face remained expressionless, Susan Leng shook her chest and cried, "Mommy, you said that you would take me to the amusement park tomorrow for my birthday. How could you lie to me?"
However, that woman didn't wake up despite her distraught daughter's persistent efforts. Susan Leng's tears wet her clothes.
The wind blew wildly into the house, and whipped up Susan Leng's long hair and bloodied clothes.
A chill passed through her frail body, making her curl up and snuggle up to her stiff mother.
All of a sudden, a bolt of lightning streaked through the dark sky, followed by a deafening thunder. Susan shrieked and covered her ears tightly. She trembled and her frightened eyes darted around. The dark night was like a devil. She quivered and kept repeating in disbelief, "No! No!"
Another thunderous boom tore through the air. Panicking, Susan realized she could not stay here any longer. The metallic smell of blood permeated the air in the room. She dashed out of the house, running along the winding path desperately.
She kept running manically as if a ghost was chasing her. She lost her shoes but continued sprinting barefoot on the stony path. Susan couldn't feel the pain piercing her feet, as she left a trail of blood on the path behind her.
She didn't know how long she had been running nor how far she had run. All she knew was that she was about to collapse.
Her long hair was splattered across her beautiful little face, which was now stained with blood, and her wet clothes clung to her as the rain lashed her body. At this moment, Susan looked like a corpse crawling out of the grave.
Suddenly, a luxurious black car came hurtling towards her. Susan couldn't open her eyes because of the dazzling headlights. Overcome by exhaustion, she fainted in front of the black car.
The car screeched to a halt and a middle-aged man in an elegant suit jumped out of the car. He rushed over to Susan and bent to check if she was breathing. Feeling her moist, hot breath, he breathed a sigh of relief. Turning back to the person in the car, he called, "Sir, she is still alive."
"Come here quickly and carry her into the car. Are you going to let her freeze to death in this heavy rain?" A young male voice came from the car.
"But..." The driver was about to protest, but was interrupted by the young man.
"Get her into the car! Don't make me angry!" warned the man again.
Holding Susan in his arms, the driver sighed helplessly as he walked towards the vehicle. "Why is such a little girl running on the road at night?"
"Help me. I don't want to die. I want to live..." Susan reached out a bloody hand and clutched the driver's clothes tightly.
This got the attention of the young man in the car. He stared at the petite figure and asked coldly, "Why should I save you?"
Susan struggled to hold on to the last bit of her strength. She looked into the young man's eyes and said bravely, "As long as I live, everything I have is yours."
"What's your name?"
"My name is Susan Leng. I'll be eight years old tomorrow."
The boy looked at her with a mix of interest and intrigue. Her face was dirty and he couldn't tell what was going on in her mind. But her amber eyes were pure and her will to survive was fierce.
"You are very beautiful and I like you very much," said the young man, leaning closer to Susan.
Pacified by his words, Susan gave in to the exhaustion and passed out. She knew that the boy would save her.
When she woke up, she found herself lying in a big, soft bed. An icy voice drew her attention. "You're finally awake."
Susan saw a young man sprawled out lazily on the sofa. He was incredibly handsome. She looked at him and asked, "Who are you? Why am I here?"
The boy looked at her in confusion. Realizing that she had lost her memory because of the trauma, an idea flashed in his mind. "Well, I am your fiance, Richie Ye," he said wickedly.
"Richie Ye? You are my fiance. Then who am I?" Susan asked, feeling disoriented.
"You are Susan Leng and you're eight years old. This is your home now and you should always by my side." The teenager's slender fingers covered her delicate, fair face.
The Criss family lived in Sicily, Italy. They founded and operated the Flame Gang, the biggest underworld organization in the world. Legally, they also ran the Criss Group. No one dared to offend them, neither the underworld nor the corporate world. Even the government feared and respected them. Kirk was the head of the family now. The twenty-three-year-old man had already assumed the responsibility for his whole family's impressive empire.
"Sir, here is the information you wanted." The assistant opened the file and several pictures of a girl appeared on the computer. The photographs captured her in different moods. Sometimes she looked pensive, other times she was shy, and in almost every picture she looked cute. She was as beautiful as a flower in bloom.
The corners of his mouth rose slightly, breaking his otherwise stoic expression. The next minute, the coffee cup in his hand was smashed into pieces and his blood dripped on to the computer. He muttered, "My dear Susan, we will meet soon. You can't escape me forever. I have let you live away from me for too long."
Meanwhile, at the National University of A City...
"Susan, do you know Kirk Criss? He is the most handsome man in the world!" Squealed Susan's best friend Yilia Ye, handing her a magazine. The man on the cover had features that were sharp as a knife and eyes as blue as the sea. His thin lips were slightly upturned. He was a born aristocrat and exuded a regal air that made people unconsciously bow before him.
Susan looked at the cover and shook her head indifferently. "I don't know him and nor am I interested in him."
"That's because everyone knows that you have a rich and handsome fiance, right? I'm sure, for you, Richie is the best man in the world," Yilia Ye said, smirking.
"Yes, Richie is the best man in the world," echoed Susan. At the thought of Richie, she already felt warm and happy.
As soon as they reached the school gate, a Rolls-Royce pulled up. A man stepped out of it and leaned casually against the car. He was incredibly good-looking. A lock of hair flopped on his full forehead and under his thick eyebrows were long eyelashes, which were the envy of most women. He had particularly sexy lips. It was no wonder that he commanded respect and admiration wherever he went. Looking at Susan, who was overjoyed to see him, Yilia Ye said, "Hurry up. Your Richie is here to pick you up!"
"See you tomorrow, Yilia," Susan bid goodbye to her friend and happily ran to Richie. Her beautiful face flushed and she looked even more attractive.
"Why are you running? Be careful. If you fall, I will be sad."
Richie held Susan in his arms and kissed her on the cheek.
The other students, who were walking out of the school, witnessed the entire scene. Classmate A said, "Isn't he the CEO of the Ye Group? He is even more handsome than his pictures in the magazine."
Classmate B responded, "That girl seems to be Susan, a freshman. She is gorgeous!"
A crowd collected at the school gate. The girls stared at Susan with jealousy, wishing they could be the ones in Richie's arms, while the boys gazed at Susan dreamily, imagining themselves to be the ones holding her in their arms.
"Richie, let's go! I don't like the way those girls are staring at you," complained Susan, holding Richie's arm possessively like a spoiled child.
"Well, you needn't worry as I only have eyes for you. You are the most beautiful girl in the world," said Richie, lovingly pinching Susan's nose. He helped her into the car and fastened her seat belt.
After the car drove away, the group of students dispersed as if they had just snapped out of a spell.
"Susan, you will be eighteen years old in two days. Tell me what you want. I will give you anything that your heart desires," Richie said indulgently as he expertly maneuvered the car through the traffic.
"All I want is for you to stay with me forever," Susan replied, studying his handsome face.
"All right. On your eighteenth birthday, I will give myself to you. We will be engaged on your birthday, and after you graduate from college, we will get married, okay?" Richie said, stroking her hair gently.
"Oh, Richie! That makes me so happy. I love you the most." Susan wrapped her arms around his neck gleefully and kissed him on the cheek.
Surrounded by a breathtaking forest, the Ye family's mansion was classic and elegant. Well-manicured trees and shrubs lined the pathway to the house and the emerald-green forest gradually became denser as one approached the top. On the side was a natural waterfall, giving the old castle cool respite even in summer. It felt like spring all year round.
The big names in the business world had gathered in the magnificent banquet hall. Waitresses in black miniskirts shuttled through the crowd, refilling glasses with expensive wine. Soft music flowed through the hall like a gentle waterfall and a crystal chandelier sparkled above. It felt like one had stepped into paradise.
Suddenly the music stopped and the noise in the hall died down. Everyone's eyes turned toward the stairs and it felt like time had stood still. The man of the hour made a grand entrance, wearing an Armani suit. His hair was slicked back and his charismatic features made all the women in the hall go weak in the knees.
Everybody's attention turned to the woman holding the handsome man's hand. People gasped at the attractive couple.
She was tall and had a slender waist. Her luscious bosom was covered in layers of delicate gauze. Her legs were perfect, like the work of God. She had a pure and charming face. Under her shapely eyebrows was a pair of onyx-like eyes. Her skin was as delicate as white jade and her slightly pouty lips made her look like Marilyn Monroe. Her smile was addictive, which could make people forget who they were. Her eyes were as clear and spotless as glass.
When they stood together, it was like viewing a flawless masterpiece created by God.
It was not until Richie spoke that everyone snapped out of their musings but their eyes were still glued to the couple.
"Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to attend Susan's eighteenth birthday. Today is also a big day for us. We are going to be engaged..." Suddenly the door flew open and someone yelled, "Wait!"
The man's flaxen hair fluttered in the breeze. His striking features stopped the hearts of all the women present and his regal aura attracted everyone's attention as soon as he entered the hall. His appearance and imposing personality made people feel overwhelmed in his presence.
Compared to Richie, this man was like Satan-handsome and elegant but with an underlying evil persona. Just a glance by him could make people tremble all over. No one dared to look into his deep blue eyes.
"Oh my God! It's Kirk Criss," someone yelled excitedly.
Everyone present knew his name and deeds, but very few had actually met him.
As he sauntered over to Susan, he stared at her intently, unable to take his eyes off her. He walked faster, eager to get close to her.
Slowly holding out his hand to her, he calmly said, "Susan, come here. Let's go home." His voice was soft but it held a distinct tone of authority. Nobody in their right mind could defy his so-called request.
Richie pulled Susan behind him protectively, staring daggers at Kirk, and stretched out his hand. "Mr. Criss, welcome."
Kirk kept his eyes on Susan, completely ignoring Richie. "Susan, come to me," he repeated. This time, too, his tone was flat, belying the anger bubbling inside him.
Susan looked into Kirk's deep blue eyes, trying to figure out why this stranger was behaving this way, but she couldn't read him.
"Who are you? I don't know you and I'm not interested in you. I only want to be with Richie."
"Susan, don't be naughty. You have been playing games with me for ten years. Now it's time for you to come home with me." Kirk clenched his fists so tightly, people heard his knuckles cracking in the quiet hall. His eyes narrowed slightly and his gentle expression turned dark.
His assistant, Aaron, knew that he was trying hard to control his rage. If Kirk lost his temper, the consequences would be unimaginable.
"Miss Susan, please come with us."
Seeing Susan hiding behind Richie, Kirk's gaze turned glacial. A decade of anger and frustration surged within him like a volcano waiting to burst.
Richie's grandfather, Elvis Ye, walked up to him at this point. "Mr. Criss, can we discuss this after the party is over?" he said respectfully.
"Mr. Elvis, I'm just here to take Susan back," said Kirk shortly.
Richie glared at the arrogant man who had the nerve to speak so brazenly about his fiancee in front of him. "Susan is my fiancee and she doesn't know you. Mr. Criss, please leave," he snapped.
"Really? You don't know me?" asked Kirk, fixing an irate glare at Susan. The tone of his voice had completely changed. It was icy and dangerous now compared to the gentle tone he used earlier. He stared hard at Susan, his blue eyes piercing through on her soul. Susan's scalp tingled at the intensity of his look. She was frightened and confused at the same time.
"I really don't know you. You seem to have the wrong person. Richie and I have been engaged since childhood," Susan stated, looking at Kirk pointedly.
"Very well, come to me right now or bear the consequences," he warned. Kirk was on the verge of exploding. He was struggling to maintain his composure at this point.
"Miss Susan, what are you talking about? You and my master grew up together. Come here quickly," Aaron interrupted hastily. He feared his boss's anger and couldn't help worrying about Susan.
"I don't know you. I won't marry anyone except Richie. I want to be with him forever," Susan said resolutely, holding Richie's hand. She gazed at Richie tenderly.
Richie hugged Susan happily and said solemnly, "I only want Susan in my life, and I will never leave her..."
No one knew how it happened but one minute Susan was holding Richie's hand and the next, she was in Kirk's arms. He turned around and stormed out of the hall with her in his arms. Everyone hurriedly moved aside to make way for them.
The first one to react was Richie, who was dumbfounded by the situation. He immediately ran after Kirk.
"Put her down!" he roared.
"You horrible guy! Put me down! Where are you taking me?" Susan shrieked, pounding Kirk's strong chest with her dainty fists.
Kirk raised his hand and knocked Susan out. She fainted instantly.
"Break his legs," Kirk ordered Aaron ruthlessly.
The guests couldn't see clearly what happened; all they heard was two gunshots and saw that Richie slump to the ground. His legs were bleeding profusely.
"Kirk, don't take Susan away from me. Bring her back! She is mine..." Richie cried, dragging himself towards Kirk.
Elvis Ye rushed over to his grandson and held him. "Richie, let them go. Don't chase them anymore," he screamed.
Seeing Susan being carried away, Richie felt as if a knife was being twisted into his heart. "No, no, don't take Susan away. She is mine!" Richie's agonizing cries echoed through the night.
Susan had lived with him for ten years. He wanted to protect her all his life. He couldn't let anyone else take her away. He couldn't!
"Take him down and call the doctor," Elvis Ye ordered calmly as he pacified Richie.
Susan was a good girl and Elvis Ye liked her very much. But it was not the right time to fight for her because they didn't have the strength to compete with the Criss Family. If he had to choose between his grandson and Susan, he would certainly leave Susan behind and protect Richie, who was also the future of the Ye Group.
"Susan, I'm sorry. It's not because I am cruel. I can't do anything right now. Please forgive me," Elvis Ye murmured sadly as he watched them leave.
"Stop! Let her go. She doesn't know you," Yilia said defiantly, blocking Kirk's path.
Lowering his head, Kirk looked at the girl in front of him and asked sarcastically, "Who are you? Do you think you can stop me?"
"I'm Susan's best friend and I know everything about her. I won't allow you to take her away!" Not to be outdone, Yilia raised her head and held his gaze.
Standing behind Kirk, Aaron couldn't help but worry about her safety. The girl seemed fearless but foolish. Didn't she value her life?
"She's so annoying. Make her shut up."
Aaron rushed forward and struck Yilia. She immediately collapsed on the lawn.
Having completed his task, Aaron strode back toward Kirk.
Kirk was still holding an unconscious Susan in his arms. He studied her pretty face, fair skin, and her long eyelashes. She had a straight nose and her small mouth was slightly pouted. It was an attractive combination of an angel and a temptress. He knew Susan was beautiful, but he didn't expect her to grow up to be such stunning.
Just then, a faint fragrance floated up to his nostrils. It was the familiar scent of the girl he fell in love with ten years ago. He had been with countless women, but they usually smelled of makeup, which was something he detested. But Susan was different.
Suddenly, desire pooled low in his abdomen and his whole body started burning up. He didn't expect that just the sight of her would get his blood roaring. He was confident about his willpower as this kind of thing had never happened to him before.
Kirk lowered his head and kissed her on the lips. Her lips were soft and sweet, leaving him wanting more. So he bit them roughly. Nudging her mouth open with his tongue, he deepened the kiss.
She was so gorgeous that he couldn't control his urge and bit her so hard that he drew blood from her mouth. Fueled by the fire in his body, he kissed her more passionately. Kirk didn't let her go until her face turned pale because of the lack of oxygen.
This was his first kiss. He never allowed women to kiss him as he felt they were dirty. Never in his wildest dreams did he imagine that he would not be able to stop kissing Susan.
Finally, he raised his head and his fingers grazed her swollen lips. He looked at her without emotion in his stormy blue eyes.
"Susan, you are such a bitch. You are as shameless as your mother; always seducing men!
You even pretended to not recognize me! Well, you can keep up your act. I will ensure that you will have no choice but to live in hell. You have to pay the price for your mother's shamelessness. I'll take revenge on you for the pain caused by your mother to me. I'll destroy everything you care about!" He slapped her face two times.
Susan groaned disapprovingly in her unconscious state.
