Chapter 1 Rejection

Chapter 1: Rejection .

"I choose Cassandra Lancaster as my Luna," Lucas stated firmly, his eyes never leaving hers.

My heart stopped, and I could feel the tears pooling in my eyes. "Lucas...please," I whispered, hoping against hope that he would change his mind.

We have been best friends since we were children. Despite me having had a crush on Lucas for years.

But he didn't change his mind, and my world came crashing down around me. "I'm sorry, but my decision is final," he said, turning away from me.

I stumbled back, the pain too much to bear. "But...we had something..." I choked out, my voice barely audible.

The day before , we had a one night stand, after he became the alpha of the pack ,he took my virginity , and I thought that meant something to him.

Lucas looked at me, his eyes softening just a fraction. "It was a mistake, a momentary lapse of judgment. I never meant for it to get this far," he said, his tone gentle but firm.

I felt like I was suffocating. "So, that's it? You're just going to forget about me?" I asked, my voice rising with desperation.

"Of course not. You'll always be a part of my life, but we just can't be together in the way you want us to be," he said, his voice full of regret.

And with that, he walked away, leaving me standing there alone, my heart shattered into a million pieces.

I had left the pack, unable to bear the constant reminder of my unrequited love. It was a way to start anew, a fresh start to forget the heartache and move on, I had decided to settle down in the human world.

~ Six years later ~

Six years had passed since then, and I had found a semblance of solace in my new life. I was a successful doctor, a mother of triplets, yes the one night stand with Lucas had paid off, after my departure from the pack I had discovered that I was pregnant and without lying, it had broken me, I had thought of committing suicide or even to abort, but I didn't, I wasn't the type to give up .

I was engaged to a man who loved me despite the fact that we were not fated mates. He didn't know anything about me, I always avoided talking about me, he didn't know I was a werewolf.

Damien Steel was my rock, my constant support, always by my side no matter what. He was the owner of the clinic where I worked and a doctor as well.

As I woke up each morning and prepared my triplets, Landon, Liam, and Lana, for school, Damien would be there to help. He loved them as if they were his own, always ready with a hug or a kiss.

"Mommy, can we have pancakes for breakfast?" Landon asked, with pleading eyes , tugging on my pyjama pants.

"Sure thing, bud. How about I make some blueberry pancakes?" I replied, ruffling his hair.

"Yay!" Liam and Lana chorused. They were just as excited as their older brother.

As I got to work in the kitchen, Damien walked in, rubbing his eyes. " Good morning beautiful, " he said with a smile.

Damien wrapped his arms around me, giving me a kiss on the neck.

"Good morning, my love," I replied, smiling as I turned around to face him.

"How did you manage to wake up so early?" He asked while yawning . A heavy sleeper.

I chuckled. " Motherhood does that to you. Plus, the kids need to be fed and sent to school on time."

Damien nodded, looking proud. "You're an amazing mom, you know that?"

I grinned. "Thanks, but I couldn't do it without your help and support."

Damien walked towards the kids and gave each of the kids a kiss on the cheek.

"Good morning, my loves. How did you sleep?" he asked.

"Good morning, Daddy," Liam responded. "I dreamt about going to the zoo today!"

"Well, we can't go today, buddy. But we'll make plans to go in the future, okay?" Damien said, ruffling Liam's hair.

I busied myself with cooking breakfast while Damien helped the kids get dressed. Soon enough, the pancakes were ready and we all sat down to eat.

As we ate, the triplets excitedly told us about their plans for the day. I listened attentively.

Damien ate quickly then went upstairs , and came down a few minutes later dressed in his scrubs.

"Damien, what's going on? Why are you in a rush to leave?" I asked as he bolted down the stairs.

"I have a surgery scheduled today, so I need to be at the clinic early. You and the kids have a good day, okay?"

"We will," I said as I kissed him on the lips. "I love you."

"I love you too," he said as he grabbed his bag and headed out the door.

After breakfast, I got the kids ready for school. There was always a flurry of activity in the morning as I had to pack their bags, comb their hair, and make sure they had everything they needed.

Once they were off, I headed to the clinic .

"Good morning everyone, how's your day so far?" I asked with a smile as I entered the clinic.

"Good morning! It's been busy already, but we're managing," my coworker replied with a chuckle.

"I hear you on that," I replied, "Have any of you heard about the upcoming hospital fundraiser?"

My coworker shook her head, "No, I haven't. What is it about?"

"Well, it's a charity event to raise funds for the hospital, and it's going to be held next month. I'm thinking of volunteering, anyone else interested?"

My other colleague spoke up, "Yes, count me in. I think it's a great idea to give back to the community."

"Agreed," I nodded, "I'll send you guys the details as soon as I get them. I can't wait to see how the event turns out."

Just as we were about to part ways, Grace, another coworker, approached me, holding a stack of files in her hands.

"Hey, sorry to interrupt, but I have some files to present to you," she said.

"No worries, Grace. Come and give them to me in my office later," I replied.

As I walked towards my office , I couldn't help but feel thankful for having such dedicated teammates who were always willing to lend a helping hand.

It was always a pleasure to work with such a talented and supportive team.

As I worked at my desk, I heard a knock on my door. I assumed it was one of my colleagues and called out for them to come in.

"Come in," I called out knowing that maybe it was Grace .

But as I turned to face the door, to my utter surprise, it was Lucas who walked in. My childhood crush whom I hadn't seen in years.

"Lil," he said quietly. "Can we talk?"

Chapter 2 Unexpected reunion

Chapter 2: Unexpected reunion.

I was shocked to see him and couldn't believe my eyes.

I stared at the man in front of me, my heart racing as memories of our past flooded back. Lucas Storm – the man who had shattered my heart all those years ago.

"What do you want, Lucas?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady. I was feeling overwhelmed.

"Lilian," he breathed out, his green eyes filled with regret. "I wouldn't be here if it wasn't urgent. My father's sick, and I need your help."

I shook my head, my hands trembling slightly. "I can't come back to the pack. I have a life here, Lucas."

"I know that, Lil," he said, leaning closer. "But please, I wouldn't ask if it wasn't important. We need you."

I hesitated, my mind racing. I had left the pack behind years ago, after Lucas had chosen Cassandra Lancaster as his Luna. It had been a painful decision, but I knew I couldn't stay and watch him fall in love with someone else. I had fled to the human world, determined to start a new life, and I had succeeded.

But now, faced with Lucas again, I realized that I had never truly left the pack behind.

And also his father the alpha had taken me in and raised me when my parents died, so I was in a dilemma.

"I'm sorry about your father, Lucas, but I can't come back to the pack," I repeated, feeling angry and hurt. "I have a life here, a family, a job. You can find another doctor."

"You don't understand, Lilian," Lucas insisted, moving closer to me. "My father needs you. He's dying, and only you can help him. Please, come back with me."

I jumped up from my chair, feeling overwhelmed. "I can't just drop everything and go back to the pack, Lucas. You don't get to waltz back into my life and demand that I help you."

"I'm not demanding anything," he said, his voice softer now. "I'm begging you, Lil. Please."

"No," I said firmly, shaking my head. "I can't."

"Why not?" he asked, desperation creeping into his voice. "You're a doctor. You can help him."

"I can't go back to the pack, Lucas," I said firmly. "You know what happened. You know why I left."

"I know," he said, his voice softening. "And I'm sorry. I'm sorry for I did to you. But I'm not the same man anymore. I'm different now. I'm..."

"Ashamed? Remorseful? Sorry ?" I spat, my anger flaring up.

"I'm," Lucas said, his eyes pleading with me. " I'd be grateful if you helped him."

I shook my head again, my eyes locked on his. "No. I can't. I won't."

"You have to," he said, stepping closer to me. "In the world of humans, medicine is advanced. But in the world of werewolves, it's not. You're the only one who can save him. Please, do it for me. For us."

"For us?" I repeated, my voice rising in disbelief. "What us, Lucas? We don't have an us. We never did."

"We could," he said, taking my hand in his. " Help us. Please."

Tears sprang to my eyes as I studied his face, so familiar yet so distant. It had been so long since I had seen him. So long since we had been together. And yet, here he was, asking me for help. And asking me to come back to the pack.

"I can't," I said again, my voice barely audible now. "I'm sorry."

He looked down at our entwined hands, his grip tightening. "Please, Lil. Please."

I shook my head one last time, pulling my hand free. "I'm sorry, Lucas. I can't."

Before he could say anything else, we heard a knock on the door. Lucas looked embarrassed as my colleague Grace entered the room.

"I'm sorry, I didn't realize you had a patient," she said, noticing Lucas. "I can come back later."

Lucas shook his head. "No, it's fine. I'll go. We're not finished here," he said, looking at me.

As he left, Grace looked at me skeptically. "Who was that?"

"Just a rather crazy patient," I lied, feeling embarrassed.

After Grace left, I slouched in my chair, feeling confused and overwhelmed. Why had Lucas come back into my life now, after all these years?

The rest of the day passed in a blur. I picked up my triplets from school.

****

I was still reeling from my encounter with Lucas when I arrived home with my triplets. The conversation replayed in my mind over and over again, and I couldn't focus on anything else. My children tried to talk to me, but I was absent, lost in my own thoughts.

"Mama, are you okay?" Landon asked, his small hand tugging at my shirt.

I snapped out of my daze and forced a smile. "Yes, of course. I'm sorry, I was just thinking. How was your day at school?"

Liam and Lana exchanged worried glances before Liam spoke up. "It was good, Mama. But you seemed sad. Is something wrong?"

I sighed, not wanting to burden my children with my own problems. "No, nothing's wrong, my loves. Mama's just a little tired. Let's get started on your homework, okay?"

They seemed to accept my answer and got to work on their assignments. However, I couldn't shake the feeling of unease that had settled over me. Lucas had come back into my life after all these years, and I didn't know how to handle it.

As I stepped outside, I noticed something unusual lying on the ground in front of my house. It was a letter, and to my surprise, it was addressed to me. The elegant handwriting on the front was familiar, but I couldn't quite place it. I hesitated for a moment before bending down to pick it up, my heart racing with anticipation. Glancing around nervously.

What could this letter possibly be about? And who could have left it there for me? I had a feeling that my life was about to take an unexpected turn, and I wasn't sure if I was ready for it. With a deep breath, I opened the envelope and began to read.

Chapter 3 Harassment

Chapter 3

I tore it open, unfolding the letter with trembling hands.

"Dear Lilian,

I hope this letter finds you well. I apologize for my abrupt departure earlier. It was not my intention to upset you further.

I realize that seeing me must have brought up painful memories and emotions. I want you to know that I never meant to hurt you all those years ago. I was young, foolish, and blinded by my responsibilities as an alpha.

But now, my father's health is deteriorating, and we are in desperate need of a doctor. Lilian, you are the only one I trust to help him. Our pack doctor does not have the expertise needed to treat his condition.

I understand if you are still angry and do not wish to come back. I know I have no right to ask anything of you after what I did. But I am begging you, Lilian, please find it in your heart to help us. I am willing to do anything to make amends and make things right between us, for the sake of my father. He has always cared for you like a daughter, and I can't bear to see him suffer like this.

If you're willing to help us, meet me at our old spot in the woods tomorrow night at midnight. I'll explain everything then.

I know this is a lot to ask, and I will respect your decision either way. But please think about it. We need you.

Please, Lilian, I'm desperate. I can't lose my father.

With sincerity,

Lucas."

I stood there, the letter slipping from my fingers as tears welled up in my eyes. The flood of emotions was overwhelming. How could he expect me to just forget the pain he had caused and come running back to the pack?

But I couldn't ignore the plea in his words. The thought of his father suffering, of the pack in need, tugged at my heartstrings. Could I really turn my back on them, on him?

I wiped away my tears, my mind racing with conflicting thoughts. I needed to make a decision, and I needed to make it soon.

"I had even forgotten to close our small gate," I said to myself as I flipped through Lucas' letter. "That's unlike me."

Suddenly, I saw my husband's car enter our dealership. I quickly tried to figure out a way to get rid of the letter before he got out of the car.

Damien got out of the car and approached me. "Hey, babe. How are you?" he asked, giving me a kiss. " You look ... Pale." He said looking at me.

I tried my best to hide my panic.

"I'm...fine," I replied hesitantly. "You know, you should really stop with your stupid diagnoses. I'm a doctor too, remember?"

We laughed, but my mind was still elsewhere. I couldn't help but think about the letter I had to get rid of before Damien saw it.

We entered the house, but my mind was still elsewhere. As soon as we walked through the door, my triplets Liam, Landon, and Lana came running to say hi. "Daddy!" they shouted, throwing their arms around Damien.

"Hey guys, how was school today?" Damien asked, giving each of them a hug.

"It was good! We learned about dinosaurs!" Liam exclaimed.

"Dinosaurs are so cool!" Landon added.

"I drew a picture of a T-Rex!" Lana chimed in.

"That sounds amazing!" I said, smiling at their excitement. "Now let's go eat dinner."

As we sat down to eat, I tried to act as if everything was normal despite the envelope burning a hole in my pocket. After dinner, I put the triplets to bed .

The next morning, after i dropped the kids off at school, I found an identical envelope in my car. The handwriting was the same as the one I was desperately trying to get rid of.

This time I didn't read the contents of the letter anymore, I tore it open, my hands shaking with anger.

"What does Lucas want from me?" I yelled, crumpling up the letter and throwing it onto the seat next to me.

As I drove to work, my anger boiled over. A passerby looked at me through the windows of my car and I shouted at him. "Mind your own damn business!"

It caused him, causing him to flee.

He fled frightened, well done for him .

"What's happening, Lil?" my colleague asked as I barged into the hospital.

"I don't want to talk about it," I snapped at her, still feeling riled up.

I poorly handled treatments for patients, almost resulting in the death of a patient. My colleagues were outraged, surprised by my lack of focus.

"What's wrong with you, Lilian?" my coworker asked. "You're never this sloppy. Are you okay?"

"I'm fine," I lied. "Just a little distracted."

The afternoon, as I walked through my triplets' school, I spotted Lucas charmingly chatting and laughing with my son, Landon. I didn't waste any time and marched straight to them.

"I don't want you near my son ," I commanded Lucas.

Lucas lifted his head and flashed a mischievous smile, " what's the problem?" he asked.

"Stay away from him," I repeated firmly.

Lucas turned back to Landon. "It's crazy how much this little one looks like me physically, don't you think?" he said, rubbing Landon's head.

My heart felt like it was about to jump out of my chest. Did he know that Landon was his own son? I was taken aback but remained composed, not revealing anything to Lucas.

I managed to keep calm despite the storm of emotions going on inside me.

"No he doesn't look like you, he'll never be like you," I trampled angrily.

Lucas backed off a little, sensing my anger. "Hey, I was just joking. Don't get your panties in a twist," he said.

I took a deep breath and asked Landon to go pick up his two other brothers from their classes. As Landon left, I turned to Lucas with eyes full of anger.

"What do you want, Lucas? Why are you constantly harassing me?"

"I just want you to come back to the pack," Lucas said calmly.

"I'll never go back to the pack. And you have no right to harass me or my children," I snapped back.

Lucas paused for a moment before sighing, "Look, I'm sorry for making you angry. I just thought you could help look after my father. He's not doing well."

"I'm sorry about your father but that doesn't mean I'm going to come back to the pack," I replied firmly.

He took a step closer, his expression pleading. "Please, Lilian, my father's condition is worsening. He needs your healing abilities. You're the only one who can save him." Desesperation was etched on his face.

I swallowed hard, my heart torn between the memories of the pain he had caused me and the compassion I still felt for his family.

"I made a mistake, Lil," Lucas said, his voice filled with regret as he looked down.

I raised an eyebrow at him, not willing to let him off easily. "And what mistake was that, Lucas?"

"I was young and foolish," he continued, his eyes pleading for forgiveness. "I thought I knew what I wanted, but I was wrong. I never stopped caring about you, even when I pushed you away."

I scoffed, a bitter laugh escaping my lips. "Oh, you never stopped caring about me? That's funny, because it sure didn't seem like it when you left me broken and alone."

Lucas winced at my words, clearly feeling the weight of his actions. "I know, Lil. I messed up. But can't you see that I need you now?"

I shook my head, my heart aching at the thought of being pulled back into the pack and all the memories that came with it. "Words are cheap, Lucas. You can't expect me to forget all that pain and hurt just because you need me now."

"But my father..." Lucas trailed off, his eyes filling with tears.

I sighed, feeling the weight of the situation weighing on me. "I'm sorry, Lucas. I'm not the 19 year old girl you left behind. I've changed, and I'm not willing to come back to the pack. My decision is made."

"I told you not to talk to strangers," I scolded Landon as we hurried away from the school.

"But he seemed friendly," Landon protested.

"It doesn't matter. We don't talk to strangers," I replied firmly.

I quickly ushering my children into the car.

Once we were all seated, I couldn't resist the urge to scold Landon some more. "I can't believe you would talk to a stranger like that," I berated him.

"But Mom," Landon whined, "he seemed nice."

"You don't know that for sure," I countered, my eyes fixed firmly on the road.

As I drove, my triplets began to bicker in the backseat, their voices rising louder and louder. "Mom, he's touching me!"

"He's not, she's lying!"

"Am not!"

"Are too!"

I turned around to scold them, and that's when it happened. Another car appeared out of nowhere, hurtling towards us at breakneck speed. I was frozen, unable to move or even scream as we careened towards it.
